1 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2019

I purchased a new 2019 Jeep Cherokee on 6/29/19 with less than 5 miles on odometer. On 9/7/19 (less than 1k miles), I started car, drove halfway down block and the steering completely locked. Power steering light went on and car was not drivable. Called dealership, who was very accommodating, and they towed the car and gave us a loaner. After several days, the dealer was unable to come up with a solution so they opened a case with Chrysler. After three weeks, the entire steering column was replaced, which seems like a safety issue in itself so I did not take the car on the highway or on long trips. For the first couple of weeks, the repair seemed fine, but then the steering column/wheels started making loud grinding noises and thumps while parking and pulling out of parking spaces. Now it is happening while I am driving, louder and lasting longer. I have had two scary instances of steering/wheels grinding, thumping, locking while changing lanes and I have no control of the steering for 10-20 sec. It happened again today (12/30/19) while driving in a parking lot. The steering locked while I made a slight turn going approx 5mph, and the grinding/thumping was so loud and strong that it felt like the whole front end of the car was going to fall off. This lasted longer, around 20sec, and then the car just drove completely normal. I have also had multiple instances of feeling that I have zero control of the steering and that my wheels are not on the road. No noise, no locking up, just no control of the vehicle at all. This is my third 4x4 and my second Jeep, so I am well aware of how to drive the car and how it should handle. This is not normal and, quite honestly, I feel like this car is going to kill someone. Taking back to the dealership tomorrow so their repair dept can troubleshoot. This car is not safe to drive.

2 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the steering wheel was slightly turned and failed to respond. The contact was concerned that in inclement weather over correcting the vehicle could lead to a crash. The vehicle was taken to reed Chrysler located at 1724 n spring st, beaver dam, WI 53916, (920) 887-2300, to be diagnosed. The vehicle was driven by a technician who was able to duplicate the failure. The contact was informed that there was no recalls or a fix for the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted nor notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000. Ah.

3 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2019

At highway speeds 60-75, while making small corrections while driving steering becomes slightly tight and then steering gives in and jerks. Tightness and jerk happens in both directions. Happens in every drive at highway speeds only.

4 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2019

When driving at highway speeds in a straight line, I experience a dead spot or slippage with the power steering. Mostly noticed turning the steering wheel slightly to to the right to make small adjustments. While making the steering input, nothing will happen at first, then as more pressure is applied, the steering will jump slightly and catch. The effect is that it feels like you're driving on a very windy day when it's not windy at all.

5 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2019

As I was traveling about 30mph my power steering locked up. I wasn't able to turn the wheel at all. A service power steering light came upon my dash. When I called the dealership they refused to let me tow it there or fix it even though it was less than 6 months old and under warranty. I ended up having it towed there anyways without telling them. It was just a code that had to be cleared but they made me pay 120$ for labor even though it was under warranty and at no fault to my own. This is the only problem I've had with this vehicle other than that I love it. If I were in a different situation although it could have been very dangerous and I was very unhappy the way the dealership treated me.

6 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2018

Vehicle was leased on 10/5/18. On 10/13/18 with 342 miles while driving on a highway towards the mountains and making a turn into an exit the steering wheel locked up and steering wheel service light went on. The car almost smashed into the sidewall. I was able to stop the vehicle in time to avoid any accidents. There was also burned smell coming out of the hood. The car was towed to the nearest dealership. The dealership advised me that they have no available loan cars at the moment and to reach out to Chrysler corp. I have still have not heard back from the dealership nor the case manager from Chrysler corporation. I have made numerous attempts to reach to someone with no luck. I am surprised at the way the dealership where I leased the car, the dealership where the car was left for diagnoses and the Chrysler corp is handling this issue.
