Jeep Cherokee owners have reported 80 problems related to cruise control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Jeep Cherokee based on all problems reported for the Cherokee.
On activating and setting cruise control, vehicle correctly maintains steady speed. When pressing the (+) button to increase speed, vehicle accelerates but upon removing finger the vehicle continue to accelerate until applying brakes or you disengage the cruise control function. I've been to Jeep delear twice and they can't duplicate which is absurb. They said the computer control unit would have to be replaced which I will have done. I believe the technicians didn't understand what the problem was actually and just checked cruise control function. Just wanted to alert you to this malfunction. . Thank you.

Your website has some trouble & won't accept my jpg files. First time to see this. I use cruise control all the time on 3 vehicles I own. But, this Jeep has a strange problem that is not safe. Almost all vehicles I have driven with cruise controls will exceed set speed by 1~3mph while going down a steep hill. But my Jeep will exceed by 5~7mph on steep hills. I have turned off cruise control when it didn't control speed and drove manually for a while, then used cruise control again. If I set at 70mph, often speed will increase to 75~77mph going downhill; then brakes will engage strongly (hard braking) and Jeep will quickly go below 70 mph. Jeep will brake hard, go to or below 70mph then speed up some then brake hard again! two-three times I had 18 wheelers behind me going down steep hill when I was using cruise control, Jeep quickly reached 75~77mph, then suddenly brakes clamped down with a lot of force and big trucks had to hit their brakes hard and were not far from my rear bumper. I do watch in rear view mirror often when driving. There are a lot of hills in my area of east texas. I also watch out for smaller vehicles also when I use cruise control, especially going downhill. I took Jeep to a dealer Jan. 24, 2024 in palestine, TX 75801 to check excessive carbon soot in tailpipes, coming out of muffler. And, I told service mgr. About bad cruise control braking. They did nothing. Now, see elliott Jeep dealer service invoice 66085. Dealer wasn't interested in looking a cruise control problem. He checked only excessive soot problem and maybe did a multipoint inspection. Also, this Jeep couldn't possible pass an epa emissions control. I think there are some real defects in main control module!!!! defective speed or cruise control. Defective air/fuel sensor control making a lot of soot. Display defective for gasoline & temperature guages in display. In 2023, I told different dealer about cruise control trouble and he didn't check anything, either.

While driving on hwy 395 traveling north from spokane, wa, with cruise control set at 60 mph, after cresting a low hill and descending the hill my car's engine began racing the rpm went to 4500 rpm and I couldn't get it to slow down or stop by braking or changing the cruise control. My car got to 80 mph when I finally got the cruise control to disengage by pressing cancel again while braking. This is the second time this has happened. It's very scary. I'm afraid to use the cruise control in my car.

While driving on a freeway in November 2020 I had engaged the cruise control and set it at the speed limit of 70 mph. A semi truck changed into my lane without blinker warning. I slammed on the brakes but the cruse control would not disengage. I then began pumping the brakes and still no disengagement. As I approached the back end of the semi prior to hitting it, I drove off the freeway down the descending embankment still pumping the brakes without disengaging the cruise control. As I began sliding down the embankment I brakes disengage the cruise control just before a collision with the divider.

The starter went bad around 40,000 miles. Sometimes it starts other times it takes hours to start. I always get a notifaction that says starter protection mode engin warming after a few failed start attempts. The car stalls out often. Any turns shut the car off. Oil must be added twice a month to fix the stall issue. Half the time it says 4 wheel drive and cruise control unavailable. This Jeep is a lemon. A disastrous purchase. Should be a recall on the starters as many people have the same problem. 2 year old car costing me 900 to fix starter is a joke.

Whole stationary, the Jeep has acted like it didn't want to start 4 separate times, the climate changes itself to go the the front vent on high heat every time the car is turned on regardless of setting before turning off, and radio turns on and off on its own. The aux port on the console will work one day and not the next. While driving, the cruise control has stopped working twice. All this happened in a span of two weeks.
I was driving on the freeway with a friend, had my cruise control set and the car started speeding up, I pressed the brake pedal to disengage and it didnt so I pressed cancel on the steering wheel it just keep going, I keep tapping the break pedal, finally it just went off,I asked my girlfriend if she felt that, she said yes I thought you were doing it, I wondered what you were doing. . I had a recall on my car eariler for the cruise control and took it in but if this is the same issue it wasnt fixed properly. I called Jeep and they said since there are no recalls on my vehicle id have to pay for the repair. . I believe this is the same issue. . There are only 21683 miles on my car. .
The car's cruise control was engaged while climbing a slight hill on the freeway. The car failed to stop accelerating at 60 mph (set speed limit). The cruise control button nor pressing the brakes would disengage the system. After approximately 10 seconds, the car accelerated to 75 mph and finally disengaged. This was during the night, with moderate rush hour traffic on highway 16 near port orchard, wa. The dealer (west hills Chrysler, bremerton wa) cannot find an error code and refuses to repair the vehicle. I deem the vehicle unsafe to drive while using the cruise control system.
I was driving home from work one night and all the dash lights come on and the vehicle completely stalled in the middle of the highway. I had to attempt to pull over and switch the key off and back on to restart the engine. I also have been at a stop multiple times and turn out into the road and my vehicle won't go, which could result in me getting hit. I also had my recall fixed for the power train, went back because I received another letter saying it was possibly not fixed and it still tells me the problem was not fixed on my vehicle. I cannot use cruise control on my vehicle because when it goes down the slightest hill, curve, whatever, the rpms go all the way up and just sit there, even when I have turned off the cruise control and braked it still stays shifted up for a long time. I regret purchasing this vehicle, especially with a baby on the way any day now and her safety being at risk. We are in the process of finding another vehicle.
Tl-the contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude. The contact stated while driving on the road with the cruise control set at 55 mph going down a hill thecruise control disdengaged, the rpms will go way high and the vehicle would speed up to 70 mph. The contact had to brake the vehicle to slow it down while going down the mountainous road. The dealer ramey Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram 127 frazier dr, princeton, wv 24739 (888) 794-4317 stated that the cruise control was working the way it was supposed to work. The manufacturer contacted the tecnician at the dealer and was told the same thing that that was how the cruise control was supposed to work. The contact in the meantime stopped setting the cruise control at 55 mph. The failure mileage was 400. Tf.
2019 Jeep Cherokee limited 2. 4l turbo. Driving with cruise control set the car will suddenly accelerate, rpm's will increase by 2000 and will not slow down until cruise is disengaged. Also while driving in city in surface roads without cruise control, the car will just stop accelerating even though you are depressing gas pedal. Car comes to a complete stop while engine still running. Had to turn off car and wait a few minutes. Check engine light cane on when car was restarted with message of "check throttle control sensor". Light went off before I could get it to dealer. Dealer said the could not find a code or duplicate problem. This has happened several times. The last time on 1/11/2020.
Tl-the contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee ltd. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph engaged the cruise control on, when attempted to reduced speed, had to step on the brake pedal several times in order to disengaged . The contal also stated that the failure occurred at least ten times in a six monyh period. The vehicle was taken to the dealer bob baker Jeep, 5555 car country dr, carlsbad, ca92008, they were not able to replicate the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000. Bp.
I was driving down the highway with my daughter and my dog with me and had the cruise control set to 75 mph. There is a part of the highway where the speed limit drops to 65 mph so I slowed the vehicle down to 64 mph when it suddenly revved up to 5000 rpms and hit 75 mph again. The car has been surging lately but I thought it was from the weather getting colder. The car accelerating on its own going down the highway, especially to 5000 rpms, I know is not just the weather. There is something wrong and I have only made 1 payment on it about to pay my 2nd one. I just bought this car August 21, 2019 so this should not be happening already. Also there is a rattling in the engine.
Vehicle will randomly shut off when driving. The cruise control will not kick in when you are going straight or up a hill. . . But don't worry it will kick in when you are going down a hill! the radio will do whatever it wants from blasting music to turning your favorite song off to listen to am radio, or just locking you out all together . The dealership says "it is just an update" sorry but this vehicle is a death trap!.
Crusie control does not maintain set speed level. When speed is set, the cruise control will rapidly increase by 10 to 15 mph. The speed set point did not change, but the car increases in speed. It did not return to the set point. The cruise control is able to be disengaged.
When using cruise control, it the rpms will jump from between 1 -2 to 5 very quickly and the speed will increase from 65 mph to 75mph for no reason. This occurs whether I am driving on a straightaway, up a hill, or down hill. This has happened on multiple occasions and is happening more frequently. It occurs randomly and is very scary.
Several times within the past 2 months, including today; when driving more than 25-35 miles there will be a "service shifter" notification and the associated 'ding' noise notification that comes on. This notification blocks any action on the screen between the speedometer and rpm monitor and only successfully goes away when turning the Jeep completely off. This happens while in motion, particularly on highways, and seems to happen more often if I have used or am using cruise control on the trip. It also illuminates all of the lights on the shifter (pnrd +/-). It seems that this could potentially cause a more serious issue with shifting, cause me to become stranded, or become dangerous for myself and other drivers.
The vehicle lunges forward when coming to a stop on a downhill situation. It becomes difficult not to hit stopped vehicles at the bottom of a hill at red lights. The cruise control does not always disengage when I hit the brakes, I have had to take evasive action several times. Contacted dealer, mad appointment for a scan.
Jeep does not accelerate properly. Still has other issues stated in other complaint; grinding, lurching. This car is a fail. Filed a lemon claim that was ignored and am about to re file for all the other problems occurring. I can't use cruise control because the rpms get waaay too high for me to trust. The hills between payson az and show low az are too much for the computer to manage, I'm worried the engine will blow. Air bags did not deploy when I was rear ended. Now I know why. They are recalled. This is a death trap I am paying 32k for, and I am livid. I will never buy Jeep again.
In motion. Problem with vehicle, any speed, especially cruise control on. Speed set at [ex) 25 mph, traveling decline Jeep downshifts from 6th. Gear to 3rd. Gear. Rpm jumps to 4200 from 1500 rpm. Engine starts racing as turbo kicks in. Transmission up shifts to higher gears. Rpm stays high, vehicle doubles its speed. Occurs any speed. Any hill. On interstate with grades. No matter what roadway or surface. Did this the first day we bought it. My wife didn't tell me it continued. I found still occurred when I took for 3000 mile service. She said she just avoided cruise control. It will do this on a grade also if cruise is off. Longer grades. At the 3000 mile service I informed dealer dutch miller and called fca Jeep I registered a case #. That day in June. Dealership didn't follow through with Jeep, or visa versa. Jeep couldn't reach us for phones were out for 3 weeks due to storms. Jeep suspended. I called Jeep csm last week. They wanted another tech review. The June service review included taking a brand new identical Jeep limited 2. 0 turbo and simulate. It was worse than ours. It actually red lined rpm on grade of rt 119 at oakwood interstate 64 access dealership agreed a problem. No known repair. Computer software or engineering update required by Jeep. Dealer did not report to Jeep csm on first service call. Due to length of time, we needed to repeat. Took in again 07/18/2019. Service writer just typed part observation of first visit. I contacted Jeep to be sure they were aware. Jeep case mgr. Contacted billy at dear who knew nothing of issue and stated he thought it did what the other Jeeps did. Case mgr. Told me I could take to another dealer for a different case mgr. I emphasized this is a dangerous condition. Michael didn't want to be concerned with issue, it is dangerous, and I was reporting. Svc. Mgr. Said he had spoken to michael,in the hour I have video.
I deactivated cruise control and started to accelerate to pass someone on the highway, the car continued to accelerate after I had released the gas pedal and so I pressed the cancel cruise control multiple times and tapped on the gas and then the brake after that my car jerked and it stopped accelerating on its own.
A safety critical incident occurred on my new 2019 Mazda 3 hatchback when the vehicle when into "limp" mode while adaptive cruise control was engaged at highway speeds leading to rapid deceleration. The vehicle was towed to the nearest manufacturer service location where a diagnostic was performed. Codes show that communication between the central vehicle processor and multiple sub-processors failed simultaneously. Comments were made by manufacturer service representatives that failure mode is likely different from the recent cylinder deactivation/rocker arm recall. Service representatives were instructed to simply clear the codes and drive the vehicle to attempt to reproduce the failure during which it did not occur. I have attached a sanitized version of the service receipt to this message with the full list of codes. Unfortunately Mazda's representatives were unable to provide any explanation on why this failure occurred or what will be done to prevent it in the future. Engineering analysis will need to be performed to reach an acceptable conclusion. Environmental factors relating to the incident include a very hot outside air temperature, with a reading of 115 deg f from the vehicle's sensor roughly 15 minutes before the incident. The incident also occurred on a very long section of us highway with a consistent, gradual incline. Given that information potential causes are intermittent computer hardware failure in high temperature environments, or a software error in power train control or cruise control causing a communication bus failure. With the age and mileage of the vehicle (336 mi) the potential for this failure occurring is likely present in a large portion of new Mazda vehicles.

New car, 2 weeks old with 800 miles will not hold speed with cruise control while going down hill. In fact , the car actually accelerates with engine. This happens at all speeds. Dealers and factory says "it is a characteristic of all 9 speed transmissions". It is a dangerous situation. In another transmission related issues, the car makes a loud clunk when driving between 30-50 mph on a flat road when lightly putting foot on accelerator. It is so loud and hard you can hear and feel it over the radio. Again we are told this "is a characteristic of the 9 speed transmissions"! unacceptable! a class-action lawsuit needs to filed against the manufacturer.
My horn will not work at all nor the cruise control is not working at all as well. So is all of the controls on the steering wheel. Also a low headlight went out and I may have a stuck clutch problem as well. I need all of this for my safety, my passengers, and my vehicle safely as well. I am requesting a recall so these matters can be straighten out as soon as possible. I don't know what's going to happen the next day, but I need these situations fixed as much as I can.
My vehicle was engaged in active use of cruise control, I had brand new tires, and something happened to the vehicle to where it caused an unsafe push of acceleration and the car lost traction on the road. The vehicle ended up rolling 125 feet off a small drop into a river. None of the airbags deployed despite having 13 points of impact. I had to extricate myself from the submerging vehicle. I the roads were paved with gravel on either side. I was traveling at 55mph, and following the curve of the road.
1st, my engine light is on due to a faulty thermostat in the engine. I'm displeased a 2 year old car has such an issue. I've been told it's a common problem or defect. 2nd my cruise control goes rogue at times and speeds up excessively if no intervention happens to stop it.
Cruise control will be set and either be going 5mph+ faster than what it's set at, or not shut off when turned off . Also, consistently having service shifter come on , and the shifter will stop working and lock in the gear it's in or lock when put in park and not shift to another gear.
Sometimes when cruise control is set vehicle will accelerate up to 10 mph faster then set speed. This occurs even when driving on a flat level road no hills. Has also revved rpms up to 5 and slowly decelerates on own.
When driving in the mountains of west virginian having the cruise control set to 70 everything works fine until you come to a steep down hill grade. Suddenly I would look down and I would be doing 90 miles a hour and the engine rpm is over 5000. This happened 4 times. 3 times I would just touch the brake and the engine rpm would immediately go down to around 2000 rpm. One time I hade to stand on the brakes for several seconds until the rpm would go down. I almost lost control of the car one time. My son drove through the mountains on our way to the east coast and I drove through them on the way home. He told me the same thing happened to him several times. I have had the car for just over 2 years and the cruise control works fine. The only time I have problems is in the mountains on a down hill road.
Tl the contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 64 mph with the cruise control activated, the rpms increased to 5,000 and the vehicle accelerated to 89 mph. When the contact depressed the brake pedal, the vehicle did not decelerate. Once the cruise control was deactivated, the vehicle decelerated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.
While in motion with cruise control set at 65 mph the transmission jerked twice and the engine revved up and as if it was in neutral, stayed that way as if the accelerator was stuck. I hit my brakes because we was losing speed and when stopped I tried to put in park but it sounded as if gears was gri. Ding I had to shut off the Jeep to make it stop revving. I was in the middle of the 4 lane and could only shift to neutral and row backwards into the median. I was unable to put back in drive with put gears grinding. I had been driving approximately 40 mins at a speed of 60-70 when this happened. No warning lights and nothing on the dash at time of issue.

I received a notice for a recall on my Jeep Cherokee 2015 involving the cruise control. I scheduled the service at bill luke Jeep in two weeks. The evening before the appointment I received a call that they could not perform the service due to having "too many" cars at the shop. I have now made another appointment at another dealership. This has now delayed my getting this corrected by 10 days.
As of lately, the speedometer toogles up & down through a set of numbers even after attempts are made to reduce speed especially when on cruise control. During cruise control vehicle accelerates beyond set limit & requires extreme force to decelerate. It happens randomly as does many dangerous issues mainly after a software update takes place with the vehicle. If the updates don't cause acceleration concerns it causes vehicle to shut off in traffic & over the last several months a few high risks for major traffic accidents were only avoided by the swift maneuvering of other vehicles or myself when possible to avoid collision. Never before experienced so many malfunctions of mechanical/technological problems from a vehicle. As for if the vehicle was stationary, in motion, on a city street or a highway, turning, braking etc when these issues occured the answer would be my Jeep has stalled, loss speed, shut off and/or speed up under all these conditions. Dealership has me bring it in and they flash the system to "correct" the problem. That is until the next update or some software malfunction causes unexpected scary incident to arise like now with the cruise control that needs addressing.
My Jeep has been having a disturbing problem with the cruise control for months. Periodically, cruise control accelerates on its own way above what it's set at (e. G. It's set at 75 mph on the highway and suddenly it accelerates to 95 mph). I have to slam the brakes until it decelerates and reset the cruise control. When I was setting up my routine oil change appointment on the lithia app, I noticed a recall that was exactly for the problem I was having. But my Jeep was not included on the recall. I called 1-800-853-1403 on 7/24/18 and was told my Jeep was not on the recall list but to ask for diagnostics test for u63. At my appointment, 8/10/18, at lithia santa fe, the diagnostics didn't show anything. I had to pay $157 for the test! I called the 800 number again and told them I want to go on record that I reported the problem and tried to have it addressed in case I have an accident related to it. The technician told me they cleared the module and that might take care of it. I don't think I should have had to pay for the diagnostics and I think this should be remedied under the recall.
