My vehicle was on cruise control at 55 mph and during a downhill slope, the vehicle accelerated and rpms jumped to 6-8,000. I could not get the cruise control to shutoff and stop acceleration. I almost hit the car in front of me. Has happened twice now. I have also had it lurch forward at stop signs when taking off.

The cruise control was set on my Cherokee. I was going down a hill and the vehicle accelerated. The cruise was set to 59 mph and the speed got up to 67 mph. The motor revved to about 4000 rpms. I turned off the cruise, stepped on the brake and put the car in neutral. After a couple of seconds the motor stopped revving and returned to normal. I put the car back in drive and it was fine. I was on a state highway in a 55 mph speed zone.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving various speeds with the cruise control on the battery warning indicator illuminated and the vehcile seized. A message appeared that said put vehicle in gear to maneuver, but it was already in the drive position. The vehicle was turned off and on several times before it was able to maneuver again. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that he could not find anything wrong with the vehicle and it was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 71000. Jc.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 65 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle accelerated on its own. The contact stated that the failure also occurred when the vehicle was parked. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 18v332000 (electrical system, vehicle speed control). The contact stated that the engine check warning indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and landmark Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram (located at 1900 s noland rd, independence, mo 64055, (816) 836-0100) where it was waiting to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,399.
I live in a flatter area of the us. No problems here. However, while traveling in some more hilly states recently I experienced multiple occasions when the cruise control would cause the vehicle to accelerate well beyond the setting. 15-20 mph above setting. Engine rpm would go as high as 5000. The system would not immediately disengage. I had to hit the brakes and the cancel button several times before cruise control would disengage. This occurred while traveling at interstate speeds of 65-70 mph.
Cruise control keeps coming on and off. 2. 4ml engine stalls a lot hard to stop car with cruise control on and it's goes in and out on its own.

Brakes are contantly being changed. The car shakes when braking at all times. Battery always needs charged. The car will turn off unexpectedly due to battery. It has stopped at stop lights and it has stopped on i70 going towards hagerstown, MD and several city streets. It has been changed and still needs charging. Cruise control does not go to speed desired and will not slow down when decreasing the speed. Shifting gears switches to neutral unexpectedly. Car also lunges while in drive as if gears have been changed. This will happen on all roads regardless of the speed.

Using adaptive cruise control (acc) vehicle with start to stop when a vehicle is left turn lane either already there or turning into when in front of my vehicle requiring override with gas petal. Started intermittent; over 6 months period more consistent with this problem. Speed from 25 to 45 mph.
While using cruise control, traveling down a moderately steep hill, the speed would not remain constant and the engine would actually engage to accelerate the vehicle rather than govern the speed at the mph setpoint, without having my foot on the throttle. The tachometer would show the engine rev increase and you could hear the engine as well when this happened. Obviously a very dangerous situation. Took the vehicle to the dealer and was told the car and cruise control were operating as designed!.
1) car stalls at random without warning and no apparent cause. I've had the car stall at low speeds after turning (able to restart) but most significantly an incident occurring 7/9/2017 when I lost all acceleration on the interstate at 65mph while towing a 3500lb trailer. The tachometer and speedodometer dropped immediately to zero. Total shutdown. Concurrently all the electronics shutdown, including power brakes. Thankfully I was on a flat stretch of road and was able to drift into the breakdown lane. The car would not restart; no electrical components with the exception of the hazard lights and emergency brake were functioning. Car had to be towed. 3) cruise control fails to maintain car speed on moderate downgrades. . . Rpm's will shoot to 5000, then car will "take off" increasing speed by as much as 15 mph more than control is set for. My complaints have been verified/replicated by a Jeep Chrysler service center but they have stated they can't fix the car because they do not know what is causing the issue.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 65 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle independently accelerated and the engine revved. After applying the brakes, the vehicle resumed normal speed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer (stephens Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram 200 north street, bennington, vt, 05201) was contacted and referred the contact to NHTSA. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,700.
While in cruise control and going downhill, vehicle will often downshift and quickly accelerate about 10 mph. Cruise control will regain conrol and slow to set speed after a few seconds. Thus far I have observed this behavior at set speeds of 45 mph and at 68 mph. I have not driven the vehicle enough to know how consistent the behavior is or if the behavior is only at specific mphs.
'forward detection limited' ; auto cruise control on while vehicle moving 55 mph in traffic. Forward detection limited warning lit up on dash screen then went out.
Does not hold the selected speed when going down hill with cruise control set. Transmission shifts down but does not stay in one gear, shifts up and down.
When at an average rate of speed (55mph) while driving on a curve (there is a bump in the road at the spot I am referring to), when the Jeep hits it, it has a death wobble in the front end!!! cruise control speeds up on a very small decline in the road every time used!!! from a stop, the car has a hard shift when beginning to press accelerator!!! hands free voice gets my voice request wrong almost every time!!!.
The cruise control does not disengage when I push the cruise control cancel button. When I have the cruise control on and going 65mph, (on a highway) or so, in a high elevation and want the cruise off, I press the brake, the cruise control does not disengage. If I press the cruise control "cancel" button, the cruise control does not disengage. I can tell because the cruise control light on the dash is still lit. What does turn off the cruise control is pressing the cruise control button that I push to engage cruise control in the first place. So to turn off the cruise control, I must press the cruise control "on" button. Shouldn't pressing the brake or the cruise control cancel button turn off cruise control all the time? I have placed another complaint on this subject before with you, but before I didn't know how to cancel the cruise control. Now I have found that I must press the button that also turns it on to turn it off.
Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee latitude fwd the contact stated the vehicle accelerates while cruise control is in use. When vehicle is going up hill at 55 mph the vehicle does not slow down no warning lights illuminated,. The contact took vehicle to alexander Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram 6764 us-431, albertville, al 35950 (256) 891-2277. But they were unable to duplicate the failure, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called the manufacturer and the manufacturer referred the contact to NHTSA. Ep.
While using cruise control, traveling up and down hills, the speed would not remain constant. The variation of the speed would be between negative 5 mph to 16 plus mph, without my foot being on the throttle. At times while traveling down hills, the engine would actually engage to accelerate the vehicle. The tachometer would show the engine rev increase and you could hear the engine as well when this happened. I have an incident of this on video in which I had the cruise set to 45 mph and while traveling down hill, the vehicle accelerated to 58 mph, without my foot on the throttle. I wanted to use the cruise control to get better gas mileage on the highway, but would often have to hit my breaks to avoid the vehicle in front of me due to rapid acceleration. After discovering this issue, I refused to use it as a result. This is not my vehicle, but a rental vehicle. This issue happened the entire time period I had the rental I have video to prove this but am unsure how to upload it as according to your website it is not a supported file format. I will provide upon request. My husband, who is an faa a&p licensed mechanic, filmed the video while I was driving, and suggested I report this issue. He also did some research on the internet to determine if this is a known issue with the Jeep, and found that it appears to be, as many are reporting similar issues.
On Sunday on may 22, 2016, I drove my 2014 Jeep Cherokee on interstate 275 from the montgomery road exit to the five-mile road exit. I was alone in the vehicle. I used the cruise control during this travel. I originally set the speed for 70 miles per hour. At one point, I had to slow down because a car pulled into the lane in front of me and the step down of feature of the speed control worked as expected. When I exited from I-275 to five-mile, I applied the brakes but was unable to slow my car. I continued to apply pressure to the brake pedal but the car¿s speed was not being reduced and I realized that I would be crossing into the signalized intersection without being able to stop. Shortly before entering the intersection, I honked the horn of my car. My car continued across all four lanes of five-mile road and onto the on-ramp from five mile to interstate 275. There it stopped. I do not remember pushing the button on the steering wheel to cancel the cruise control . The car did not impact or touch any other vehicle or pedestrian or other property. It came to a stop on the onramp. The cruise control was not then causing the car to accelerate and the brakes worked. I drove my car very slowly and parked it in the parking lot of the shopping center at the intersection of five-mile and beechmont avenue. From there, I had the car towed from the parking lot to the dealership where I purchased it, kings Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, inc. At kings auto mall. A report referenced by ntsa id no. 10861030 describes a similar incident involving the same make model and year. So far, the dealer service department says there is no problem discernable from the computer codes or fault indications.
While driving 45 mph on straight highway going downhill under engine power with cruise control on and set at 45 mph transmission downshifts and upshifts abruptly and rpm increases and speed surges increases to 63 mph. Going down same hill ar 45 mph without cruise control on next trip car coasts only to 50 mph.
With cruise control on, at 70 mph on an interstate hwy at higher elevation, the rpm's were near 4,000. I put on the brakes as the speed was going faster than I wanted. Putting on the brakes did not disengage the cruise control, so the rpm's stayed near 4,000. The only way to slow down was to press the cancel button for the cruise control. This has happened 3-4 times on different trips in different locations that were all high in elevation: 1500 feet +. I have told this information to the dealer we bought the car from, new, in 2014. This just happened again 4-20-16 in southern oregon. Normally, pressing the brake pedal cancels the cruise control.
Cruise control failed to regulate speeds on interstate - accelerated at speeds in excess of set speed by 10-14 miles per hour. Very dangerous accelerating to the point possible collision with vehicle ahead on roadway. Set speed of 72 went up to 84-89 miles per hour on slight downhill.
When I start the car in the morning stationary, the car leaps forward and then the car rocks back and forth. Ive complained about this before but dealer could not replicate issue since the issue usually only occurs when engine is cold. Also, transmission slips and revs when in motion changing speeds using cruise control. The Jeep has always done this since ive owned it.
Going down hill, the car accelerated 8 to 12 miles an hour faster than the cruise was set for. Car keeps accelerating until you hit the brake. Does not hold the set cruise speed limit. I brought it to the dealer and after 1 1/2 hours they told me my Cherokee limited was not equipped with an adaptive cruise control with stop and go. I was told by the service writer I just have to hit the brake until the decline is over and then hit resume on the panel. I know this is incorrect so is there a fix for this? we are taking a long drive trip to pennsylvania and I will need the cruise to enjoy my trip.
Purchased car 5/13/15. On 5/30 noticed shimmy/vibration as I accelerated from a stopped position into a sharp right turn. Appt made for service 6/8. At check-in, customer servc knew exactly what I was talking about; confirmed in test drive. Reported star case #s1421000022, half-shafts (left & right axles) defective, need replacing. Told car was completely safe to drive in this condition. Verbal & written confirm that parts were being manufactured and were scheduled for release 9-2015. Told by service mgr, Chrysler issued an internal TSB 2-2015. Parts warping when heated and fluid loss occurs. Entire assembly needs to be replaced but parts haven't been manufactured, contracted with company that manufactures the trailhawk model (no problems reported on those parts). Assured car was safe to drive but Chrysler rep agreed to pay for rental car for long trip I had planned prior to purchase. Researched -- I have found this issue dates back to the 2014 models. Bottom line, they knew this part was defective prior to selling me the car in may. I agreed to be patient but it is now sept and have not had my "status update" inquiry phone call returned. Vibration issue grew worse quickly, turned into a wobble. I can't drive it for extended periods on highways. As the car/parts heat up, the wobble in the front end is a constant, not just on turns. I feel as if the axles will break apart while driving. I do not have another car that I can use. There is no excuse for selling cars with a known defect and forcing a buyer to place their life in jeopardy. Other issues have cropped up. Engine races & doesn't always shift when it should; cruise control not consistent - loses speed. When returned to service, told they couldn't find a problem w/ cruise control, told transmission functioning correctly, computer is "learning" how I drive. Brakes squeak after rain, told normal by svc mgr.
Two incidents Jeep Cherokee was on automatic cruise control come to almost stop when front car took a right turn and this caused almost rear collision. I was like 30 feet away from the front car. Another incident: there was nobody around me and car applied brakes by itself and causes almost panic among the family members in the car and reduced the speed to 45mph.
At high altitude cruise control accelerated when the car started to go down hill and cruise control wouldn't disengage when hit the break or turn off cruise. Had to rek severe times before it disengaged. Has happened more than once only at high (above 3000 ft) altitude.
Vehicle's "adaptive cruise control w/ stop-and-go" was activated and set to 40 mph. On approach to an intersection with stopped traffic ahead, the adaptive cruise control feature failed to slow the vehicle and a rear-end collision nearly occurred. The system had a clear field of view and approached stopped traffic from approximately 300 yards. The vehicle's collision alarm and brake booster activated as I waited for the system to slow the vehicle. Using full braking force, the vehicle came to rest approximately 5 feet from the vehicle in front of me.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. While driving at approximately 65 mph with the cruise control engaged, the vehicle accelerated without the accelerator pedal being depressed. The failure occurred while traveling downhill and recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be determined. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100.
If held continuously, cruise control will jump from singular speed increases/decreases to 5 mph at a time resulting in a loss of speed control or to describe it another way, unintended acceleration or deceleration.
While driving in light to moderate traffic as well as stop and go traffic, vehicle would routinely surge forward immediately after slowing and or break when foot was removed from brake pedal. Cruise control had not been used or engaged at anytime.
When releasing the accelerator pedal to slow down the car accelerates by increasing the rpm and then maintaining the same speed thereafter as in a cruise control although the cruise control is off until the brakes are strongly applied to slow down the vehicle.
I drive a 2014 Jeep Cherokee with standard cruise control which they refer to as electronic speed control or esc. The car manual states that once the cruising speed is set, it can be reduced in 1 mph increments by pressing the "set -" button. It doesn't indicate that pressing that button could result in more rapid deceleration of the vehicle or that it might actually cause the system to apply the brakes. On other vehicles I've owned, pressing and holding the "set -" button simply cause the engine to back down and the vehicle essentially coasts until the button is released at a new, lower set cruising speed. However, on a number of occasions while using esc I have held the "set -" down hoping to decrease speed by a few miles an hour. What has actually happened in those instances is that after a second or so, the vehicle begins rapidly decelerating and it appears the brakes are activated by the system. As you can imagine, that could be a very dangerous outcome if the driver doesn't know it's coming and there is other traffic following behind. I'm fortunate there was no traffic following me on the occasions on which this occurred. I went back and reread the manual on the use of esc and saw no reference to rapid deceleration or brake applications in this scenario. I then e-mailed Chrysler about it, and finally received a response telling me that when using the adaptive cruise control ("acc") system, hlding down the "set -" button will result in deceleration in increments of 5 mph, though it doesn't refer to application of the brakes by the system. However, I don't use the acc system which is activated by a separate button. Either I have a malfunction of the esc system or Chrysler has failed to disclose a very important piece of safety information as to the function of the esc feature in the manual, and I'm lucky it didn't get me into a serious accident.
