My 1996 Jeep Cherokee has the gen3 seat belts. While they have not yet failed, I want Jeep/Dodge to replace them with the gen4 belts. I have three child restraints in the back seat and the likelihood of the belts releasing in a crash is unfortunately very high. As a safe kids certified child passenger safety technician, and a parent, this concerns me greatly and I feel there should be a recall on the gen3 belts. Currently owners must pay out of pocket to have these unsafe belts replaced.

My 2000 Jeep Cherokee (VIN: 1j4ff48s3yl198714) passenger side seat belt is hard to buckle up due to some mechanical interference inside the buckle itself. Both front seat belt latches are difficult to release because the release button does not allow the strap buckle to come out without a lot of manipulation causing this to be a safety problem.

While driving my 2001 Jeep Cherokee I had small objects fall off my center arm rest and hit my gen 3 seat belt latch causing it to open. This has happened twice. I have noticed that Jeep has upgraded to the gen 4 latch. Why hasn't there been a recall on this issue? every day seems to bring a new story of another fatal accident involving a daimler Chrysler product with a faulty seat belt latch.

Seat belts. The seatbelt latch mechanism on this vehicle consist of a metal mechanism surrounded by a plastic cover. The plastic cover is poor fitting, allowing the seatbelt part to be inserted between the plastic cover and the mechanism, thereby not being fastened at all, and sometimes without realizing it until it comes apart as you drive. This is an ongoing problem which requires very careful insertion of seat belt part into mechanism, sometimes it takes several attempts to secure the seat belt.

Seat belt locks in docking position when temp is below 25 f , causing driver to not have a restrant if accident occurs.
When the weather is cold (I. E. Below 25 degrees) the driver side seat belt locks in the home possition. After multiple trys on multiple days the seat belt stays in the home position.
