2 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/20/2018

The rpm's on this transmission in this vehicle go up very high but the transmission does not shift into gear. The vehicle sputters and slows on the open road. The engine does run on all cylinders. The engine has no power. This creates a safety risk on a highway. Also the differential locks up when you have to hit the brakes and three rear of the car locks up and skids left of center. Party's of the suspension have broken for no apparent reason. The left rear control arm broke for no apparent reason. I have been informed by a Jeep dealership that this vehicle is unsafe to drive. I have filed complaints with Chrysler on three occasions informing them of the numerous issues with this vehicle. I was advised to get a diagnostic test done and they would work with me to buy this car back. I did as requested and now being informed I will probably have to go to arbitration. Three times now when I applied the brakes hard on a highway the east locked up and the left rear of my car skidded and I had no control. I nearly hit a retaining wall. I have a vehicle that the dealership has deemed unsafe to drive.

3 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 1999 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/21/2018

My 1999 Jeep Cherokee uni-body frame is so rusted out underneath it is a hazard too drive, there is nothing else wrong with it. Specifically, but not limited to, control arms are rusted out and detached and frame is so rusted they can not be reattached. It seems it is very common for Jeep grand Cherokee uni-body under carriage to rust out and become a hazard with control arms detaching and vehicle becoming unsafe to drive. This is predominantly a problem in northern part of us. However, these are vehicle people buy to drive on bad roads so they should not deteriorate and become a danger to drive. Chrysler should be required to recall these Jeeps and weld in new frame rails and other support and reattach detached suspension and other necessary equipment.

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle braked independently due to the wheels turning inwards towards the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a ditch. The vehicle was towed to gator Chrysler Jeep (8040 south harbor city blvd. Melbourne, florida 32901), but was not diagnosed. The insurance agency diagnosed that the lower control arm fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and sent an independent mechanic to inspect the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 32,000.

7 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2007 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/28/2012

Received a recall notice for rear suspension lower control arms on June 28, 2012. Letter states "could cause a loss of vehicle control and cause a crash. " dealer is still unable to get my part due to backorder from Chrysler and restrictions on how many they are allowed to order. I was told the part may not be available for another 2-3 months. This is unacceptable and irresponsible. I may crash due to Chrysler's inability to provide a part that they tell me to replace. They need to step up and have the parts available for the dealers.

8 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/22/2011

This is another complaint for 'death wobble'. I have had my Jeep taken in several times and have had to live with it because mechanics didn't believe me or just didn't solve my problem. I should have used the la lemon law statutes to return my car but didn't know that back then. Driving down the road 45-70 mph and either hitting a bump or going around 70 mph your whole front end will "shimmy/shake/wobble" making it feel like a giant earthquake. I have tried to find a class action suit against this as I find several websites/forums/customers complaining about it. Right when it shakes you have to slow down below 40 mph - sometimes on the interstate and have had close calls for a collison! if you want just search for 'death wobble' and you will see a whole new world. I don't know what would happen if you didn't slow down as your immediate response is to hit the brakes. Parts replaced have been brake rotors/pads, steering dampener, upper and lower control arms, and tires. It still does it to this day.

9 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/18/2005

Purchased a 2001 Jeep Cherokee sport in November, 2004. In the past 3 months, I experienced a severe shaking of the vehicle; most often after hitting a small bump in the road. It was extremely difficult to get the vehicle under control. Took it to dealership where purchased and was told there was nothing wrong with it. Kept happening, at speeds of 35-45 mph. Diagnosed at belle tire as a bad track bar. Took iit to another Jeep dealership; track bar lower control arms replaced. Said problem was fixed but 2 days later, while on freeway (65 mph) in right-hand lane, extremely violent shaking occurred. I barely got the car to the side, because the steering wass uncontrollable. I have no doubt that had I been in any but the right hand lane, I would have hit another car. I was able to re-enter the right hand lane but kept my speed at 35 mph and exited immediately. Car went back to the dealer who said they didn't know what was wrong with it. They said it could be caused by 10-15 different things and the only way to fix it would be to replace everything, starting with steering dampner (not covered under warranty) but had no idea if that would fix it. I have only owned the car for 6 months and have already spent almost $1,000 on trying to have it fixed (including new tires and a wheel alignment). The dealer was completely indifferent to the problem. The service director said it would cost me a lot of money to have everything replaced, and even then, could not guarantee the problem would be fixed. Needless to say, these experiences, especially the one on the freeway, which I would rate a 10 on a scale of 1-10 (the others ranging from 1-4), have shaken me to the very core; I could have been killed. I can never again drive that car and feel safe, especially when the dealer has no idea what the problem is or how to fix it. I checked the internet and found 38,000 websites dealing with this problem; prevalent in Jeeps. The problem is aptly dubbed "death wobble".

10 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2000 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/04/2004

I had several trips to the dealership with the Jeep. I purchased the Jeep on July 26, 2000 new. I took excellent care of the vehicle, have it checked and oil changed every 2500 miles. Before the three year warranty was up I had a total of 15,000 miles on it. I complained of it shimmying and grinding sound in the back, but they said they couldn't find a thing wrong. In February having about $18,000 miles on it that I needed a new fuel pump - $900. 00 worth. Since then it has been down hill. I have complained since day one that my vehicle shimmies out of control intermittently, and no one could find anything wrong, just put new control arms and bushings on it and, steering pinion, tight steering, and a host of other such remedies, to no avail. This past weekend, I was almost in a very serious accident on highway 94, as I did go out of town, after the above was fixed, but apparently it didn't help as my vehicle shook almost out of control again. I put on my breaks immediately and had to go to the side of the road. I stopped, sat for a while, and then drove off, and it was okay for a while, but in the meantime, a driver from behind almost hit me when I had to put my breaks on to try to control it some. I am very frustrated with this vehicle and feel it should have been called back when I first complained years ago. I wrote daimler Chrysler a letter regarding the fuel pump a few years ago, but the company didn't even respond. In the meantime, I really don't know what to do, I want to trade it in, but feel I was sold a real lemon and should be compensated for the hassles, repair costs, etc. Of what I was hoping would not happen when buying a new vehicle, and the way I take care of it. I cannot afford to buy another brand new one, but do feel the company should have called this vehicle back from the onset, as it has been a lemon, of which I have expressed many times to the dealership where I purchased it.

11 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2000 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/23/2003

When making left turns steering wheel become very stiff. Took vehicle to dealership, and was informed by the mechanic that wrong front control arm was installed, and would need to be replaced with the correct control arm.

12 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2000 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/12/2001

Repeated passenger balljoint failure on 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport. According to multiple sources including owners and Jeep dealer repair staff, this is a regular and repeated problem in 1999 and 2000 model year Cherokees equipped with the 4. 0l engine and part time 4 wheel drive. Balljoint originally replaced at 10,950 miles under warranty (replacing dealer ira Jeep, no cost. ). Balljoint has failed again. Have been unable to get a weekend appointment at dealer. Symptoms of failure coincide with reports on file with the NHTSA - steering wheel and/or front end 'shimmy' or vibration at highway speeds, pulling or pushing left or right under acceleration, difficulty in making left or right turns (lack of feedback from wheels, car attempts to pull opposite direction). I would respectfully request on the behalf of all Jeep owners (this is a 4 hour repair, requiring the vehicle to typically remain at the dealer for one full day) that the NHTSA further investigate these failures, as I suspect a manufacturing defect. These failures are, in my opinion, dangerous and can become life threatening should the balljoint(s) catastrophically fail. Daimler-Chrysler/Jeep have been excellent in reguards to repairing these problems, but these are problems that leave customers without their car for a minimum of several hours, and are easy to ignore for most consumers. Thank you.
