Vehicle was driving on the high way, 70mph, for 20 mins, exited the highway to 40 mph and engine began making a rattling sound, shaking, backfiring, and acceleration became difficult, loss of horse power. Drove to nearest parking lot. Continues to misfire while in neutral and at idle. Turned off the engine for 5 mins. Restarted the car and the engine light came on. Car continued to make noises, back fire and idle poorly. Towed to a shop. Codes were identified in cylinder #3 spark plugs were checked to be fine, coils were checked to be fine, and cylinder #3 continued to so error codes. Car was left to have fuel pump injector checked. The fuel injector was not affected. Cylinder #3 was found to have no pressure and not operating. The vehicle has been "burning" oil, and needed to have oil checked on a weekly basis, oil changed on a by monthly schedule and if it was ever close to measuring low on the dipstick the automatic engine shutdown would disable the vehicle while it was in motion. The car is undriveable and now the fear is that the "burning" of the oil has damaged the engine cylinder beyond repair. We've been advised to replace the engine for a cost of $12,500 at only 35,000 miles.

Fuel pump failure causing emmision purge tank to fill with fuel causing $1700 repair bill. Transmission shifts with sudden jerk unexpectedly almost causing whip lash.
Vehicle stalls anytime it idles or comes to a stop. Stalls while in reverse or drive. Stalled several times in reverse backing out of driveway. Stalled while trying to go straight after coming to a stop at a stop sign. Stalled in the middle of an intersection while trying to make a left turn after being stopped, waiting oncoming traffic to clear. Stalling in an intersection could have caused serious injury or death to myself or proceeding oncoming traffic through the intersection. When vehicle stalls, the emergency parking brake is activated and requires the car to be put in park and restart the vehicle. After stalling, engine has a hard time starting again. Check engine light comes on after stalling. Vehicle was purchased new with 10 miles on odometer. Currently has 950 miles on odometer and is not drivable. After trying to find the problem for over a week, my local Jeep service center said that they found raw fuel in the hose from the purge valve, charcoal filter, and other components. Fuel is overflowing into these components of the vehicle, which is a manufacturing issue. Fuel pump is said to need replaced, which is a very common problem with 2019 models. This needs to be recalled on 2020 Jeep Cherokees, as well.

Vehicle was stopped with engine running and motor died would not restart. Motor would crank but would not restart. Since vehicle was in a high traffic area, put in neutral and folks helped push it to a safe area. Called tow truck. Tow truck driver said it acted like a fuel pump problem, so he checked the fuse for fuel pump,it was blown, so he replaced. Vehicle started and ran for a minute or so then motor died. He checked fuse and it had blown again, said fuel pump was bad. Towed to local shop. After inspection by shop, was told that they "found fuel pump shorting out internally causing fuse to blow, necessary to replace fuel pump and fuse. " fixed and test drove corrected problem. Per service invoice a module kit, fuel pump/level unit part number 68231311ab was replaced. Since vehicle only has 45990 miles on it, service manager said to file with NHTSA since the Jeep corp. Has had many fuel pump problems in the past. He has been seeing a rash of this same issue lately. Said could be a recall for a safety problem when a vehicle just dies with no warning.

After refueling, my wife stopped at a stoplight and the engine just shutoff with out warning. The screen in the car said to put it in park and then in drive. The car then start with out pushing the start button. This happened four times in the same day so she drove to the local Jeep dealership. Jeep said it was a problem with the fuel pump module and it happens when the car is over filled. My wife always stops putting when the pump handle clicks off. They have had her car for over 30 days because there are no new pumps available. This is a major safety issue that can happen at anytime. Her car has only 36,500 miles on it. This is a known problem and Jeep is not doing anything to fix it.

When going to refill the gas tank, the fuel pump would stop after very little fuel had been pumped into the tank, as if it were vapor lock. I tried several different fuel pumps at several different gas stations, to rule out the pump being the problem. I took the Jeep into the dealer and have been told there are no blockages, but to fix the problem the fuel spout and the tank need to be replaced. After looking into this online, I was floored to see many other people have had this issue. My Jeep has less than 80,000 miles on it, and has been well taken care of and serviced correctly. For a 5 year old car with 80k miles on it, I find it inexcusable to have to replace a fuel tank and spout for a faulty in either design, or bad parts.
I found only general information that our 1999 Jeep Cherokee had two recalls. It is twenty years old and I would like to find out more about the recalls. We are most concerned to learn that there was an air bag recall sometime in the past. We have owned it since 2003 and never received a recall. The info said it was a NHTSA recall #00v105000. The other recall says it's an after-market fuel pump air tex electric fuel pumps for 1999 2004. Please send us any information on this and what we can do about it, if anything. Thank you.

Filled tank with fuel. Drove about 1/4 mile and stopped at light to turn onto highway, car stalled and dash reads "shift to p then desired gear", picture attached, then drove about 6 miles. Had to stop and at light car stalled and dash read same as above. . This happened when I stopped at work and when I was driving to dealer happened both times I needed to stop and same when I pulled under the service area at the dealer. . Dealer said there was an issue with fuel system. . The problem is the vapor/liquid separator valve located at the top of the fuel tank. The valve is designed to prevent liquid fuel from entering the charcoal canister/emissions system. When the valve fails, liquid gas can enter the line and fill the charcoal canister. After refueling the pcm on the vehicle detects a change in fuel level. Then, when the engine meets certain temperature and driving criteria, the pcm issues a purge command to the charcoal canister to remove the stored gas vapors. It's at that point that all the liquid gas in the line gets sucked into the charcoal canister. The pcm expects to see gas vapors entering the intake manifold and it is prepared to adjust air/fuel mixtures to compensate. However, it is not prepared to see liquid gas coming into the intake. That's what causes the engine to stall. This seems to be a common problem, should be a recall in my opinion. I can either pay $1,700 for a new system. . . And is the new fuel pump redesigned? or just not fill up the tank completely. Which I have read will help the issue.
I was not able to start the car and it was towed to closest dealer. According to them the problem is fuel pump. And it is been 1 month already in dealer possession and still not fix it. Jeep doesn't have a part.

Jeep Cherokee takes in fuel and over-flows into the over-flow charcoal tank and causes the transmission to shutdown due to an overabundance of fuel. I do not "top off" the fuel tank at all. I wait for the fuel pump to stop on it's own and after I refuel the vehicle starts to sputter and jerk. The vehicle has trouble shifting into gear and shuts down the vehicle and forces to place the in park and shift into a different gear. This happens to the vehicle everytime I refuel.
While driving 45 mph on a main road, my vehicle engine lost power in the middle on an intersection and I was almost t boned, 6 days after I financed it. My vechile shifts really hard and I do not feel safe when driving it. I have read that this has to do with the 9 speed transmission and I am afraid the transmission will completely go out if I continue to drive it like described. I also just had to replace the fuel pump and evap system which caused the vechiles engine to shut off and lose power steering and locked the brakes. It would be very helpful if this issue got fixed. I don't even want to drive this vechile anymore, it's unsafe for me, for children, and for other drivers on the road around me.
I filled my gas tank up, drove it about a mile down the road, pulled into my parking spot, and the brakes and steering wheel locked. On the screen is said press brake and put into gear. The breaks were locked and it was already in drive to I put it in park and turned the vehicle off and back on. I was able to finish pulling into my parking spot and it seemed to be fine. My husband got into the car and everything seemed to be okay with it and he decided to drive it right down the road and see what was going on with it. About 3 miles down the road, he was going the speed limit, 45 mph, and the entire vehicle comes to a stop in the middle of an intersection, the brakes lock, the steering wheel locks and the engine cut off and the screen said service transmission and the check engine light came on. We had it towed to the Jeep dealership and they said the code was for a fuel pump. We were told this was currently under investigation and was a big issue with these models. They said it needs a new fuel pump and evac system.
After refilling fuel, the car turned off while driving almost causing an accident. This particular car requires the system to be placed in park to restart. Dealer looked into their system and discovered TSB to replace canister and fuel pump.
When refueling the vehicle would shut off prematurely as if it was full after on 1-2 tenths of a gallon. To fill up the tank took about 10 minutes because of this malfunctioning. Soon after this the transmission started to default and shift to neutral which is a bad thing when crossing multiple lanes of oncoming traffic. What I thought was safe I soon learned was a serious risk to others as well as myself. This started happening more frequently and a solution was never found. The vehicle would work fine for a few weeks and then the vicious cycle of the ongoing issue of defaulting to neutral while in traffic would occur. Just the other day the diagnosis "post warranty" identified that the vapor canister and fuel pump was the issue. Earlier I was told that replacing the battery solved the transmission problem, which wasn't to be. Replacing the vapor canister, and fuel pump cost $1292. 45 and I've only driven my vehicle from the dealership to the garage.
After owning the car for approximately 1 year, I suddenly smelled gasoline while driving and noticed the car was hard to start. Turns out the fuel pump unit has a crack in the top which is causing the problem. I am presently awaiting the $650 part and the car will be repaired next week ($190 labor). The thing is, I was initially told by my reputable car repair shop owner that he has seen this problem several times over and is pretty sure there is a recall against it, thus no initial charge. For whatever the reason, I have not been able to find another reported incident of this specific nature. Nonetheless, this is a potential safety issue and is why I am reporting it (in addition to having to spend $840 to repair the problem).
My car stopped allowing me to put gas in it. One day it was fine, the next time I tried to put gas in it, the pump kept shutting off, similarly to when it's full and/or the pump is low. After trying different stations, cards, etc. I identified it was the car. I watched the gas go into the tank, fill quickly then slowly disperse down into the tank. I took the car to the dealership and Jeep stated they believed that the roll over valve had malfunctioned causing it to stick and that the gas tank needed replacement. I specifically asked the cause of this type of issue and the service manager stated it "sometimes just happens" and confirmed multiple times it was "no form of missed maintenance" that it "just happens". Upon further inspection and mechanical review, the tank doesn't contain the valve itself, the fuel pump contains the valve which somehow just got "stuck" in turn making the vehicle think it had rolled over, shutting off flow to prevent fires. I had the pump replaced and the car is functioning fine.
The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. While exiting the driveway, the contact observed a fuel spill under the vehicle near the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer also stated that the safety lock valve on the vehicle was not installed during production, which caused the failure to occur. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,200.
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle would suddenly reduce speeds and the message "four wheel drive unavailable" and the check engine warning light had illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer reedman toll Chrysler(300 baltimore pike, springfield PA) who replaced the transmission. Later while driving the vehicle would suddenly shut off. The local dealer diagnosed that the fuel pump was faulty. The fuel pump was replaced but the failures continued to occur. Later the water pump was replaced and the transmission would not switch to the park position. The cause of the failure were not yet determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 25,000. Jft.
While driving my 2014 Jeep Cherokee on a city street, the Jeep would randomly lose power and stop moving. I would be accelerating after being at a stop light and the Jeep would lose power and stop moving. Also, I would be turning the corner at a stop light or stop sign and the Jeep would lose power and stop moving. When this occurred, I would place the Jeep into park and turn it off. I would have to wait a minimum of 5 minutes before it would restart. Once it restarted, I was able to accelerate. I took the Jeep to the dealership 4 times before they were able to find a probable problem. However, this was only after I re-created the problem for them since they were unable to recreate it. They thought that the problem was possibly a failed fuel pump module and the charcoal canister saturated and contaminated with raw fuel as a result of faulty fuel pump module.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the engine and fuel pump failed. The vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. The vehicle was diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 9,000.
When reducing speed once at about 35mph the vehicle wants to accelerate. Vehicle was in the shop from Jan. 20th 2015 Feb. 6th 2015. Dealership replaced transmission and fixed the problem. I was not able to list the dates up top so I will list everything here. April 29th 2015 to April 30th 2015 vehicle had a recall. Recall #r05. July 13th - July 28th had a problem with gas. Everytime I would get gas within 20 miles it would drop a quarter of a tank. Dealership replaced fuel pump and tested it. Also another recall. Recall #r40. June 1st - June 2nd I advised the dealership vehicle goes through a quarter tank of gas within 20 miles. They looked at it and couldn't find a problem. Also on this date they performed a flash update for powertrain control module. On July 31st my fiancee came to pick me up at 3pm after work and I got a call from her stating the vehicle stopped running. She had our newborn baby along side of the road in 90 degree weather waiting for a family member to pick her up. I got a ride to our broken down vehicle and called a tow truck. Tow truck came and took us to dealership. I waited for the results and they had no idea why it had died so they gave me a rental until the next day. August 1st recieved call from dealership saying it was a faulty fuel pump they had installed just a few days before. My vehicle was in service for this from July 31st - August 4th. The problems add up now I have another recall for the power liftgate control module, recall #r27 as I cannot get this recall fixed yet because I was told by dealership they havent started manufacturing the parts yet. Lastly, last week I went to start vehicle and it would not start. Took a few times and had to give it gas for it to start. Today sept. 7th 2015 vehicle would not start. Had to get it jumped and going to call dealership tomorrow to get this checked out.
My wife was on her way to work for the last day before christmas and got 2 blocks from the house before calling for help. The vehicle lost power and luckily she was able to get off of the road. It was rainy both the day before and that morning also. She said there was a message that came up saying shift into park and start the car. She couldn't get it to start again. I met her and after trying, got the car going but noticed that I didn't feel any response or hear any engine revving when pushing the gas pedal down. It also seemed to start fairly rough. She took my vehicle to work. I checked the vehicle later and it started ok. The battery voltage was the normal 12. 6v and 14. 7v when running. At first I thought it was a fluke. The next day as the vehicle wouldn't start. We decided to wait until fri morning with christmas being thurs. The vehicle did start before the flatbed towed it off to the dealer. The dealer had the vehicle all day and was about ready for me to pick it up when they noticed a loss in pressure at the fuel pump and decided to replace it. After we got the vehicle back it ran ok for a few days but then on 1/3/2015 it cut out again about two blocks from our house in the other direction. . It was again rainy outside. She again saw the same message. I met her and got it started again but also again noticed no reaction to stepping on the gas pedal. When I shifted it into reverse it then seemed to react to giving it gas fine and drove home ok. We took it to church and around town the next day and it seemed fairly normal. Having gone through rough shifting problems with this vehicle early and two transmission problems with Chrysler grand voyagers and then this Jeep and the articles on this site that seem to be pointing to Jeep transmissions I think Chrysler better come up with the right fix very soon before someone gets killed.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the gear indicator on the gear box began to blink and the service engine indicator illuminated intermittently. The vehicle stalled while making a left turn at an unknown speed, but was able to be restarted. The dealer stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. While driving 70 mph, the speed reduced on its own and the vehicle stalled again. The vehicle was able to be restarted and was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v293000 (vehicle speed control). The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was unknown.
2011 Jeep Cherokee, problems with cranking and fuel pump not shutting off sometimes when vehicle is off. Vehicle is not starting properly but will start after several tries. Then the fuel pump will continue to run when the vehicle is off. Dealership stated it is a faulty relay switch built into the tipm (totally integrated power module) so you have to replace the entire tipm at the cost of 1,000 for the part. And, the part is not available at the moment, on national back order. Hundreds others are having this problem. Fuel pump could just cut off at any moment because of a $10 relay switch that is built into the tipm. This should be a recalled item due to faulty switch inside the tipm that is leaving hundreds of people stranded without a vehicle while they wait on a single part for weeks!.

My vehicle is having trouble starting and my fuel pump continues to pump after the vehicle is off which is killing my battery. I've only had the car for a year and its only two years old.
I had several trips to the dealership with the Jeep. I purchased the Jeep on July 26, 2000 new. I took excellent care of the vehicle, have it checked and oil changed every 2500 miles. Before the three year warranty was up I had a total of 15,000 miles on it. I complained of it shimmying and grinding sound in the back, but they said they couldn't find a thing wrong. In February having about $18,000 miles on it that I needed a new fuel pump - $900. 00 worth. Since then it has been down hill. I have complained since day one that my vehicle shimmies out of control intermittently, and no one could find anything wrong, just put new control arms and bushings on it and, steering pinion, tight steering, and a host of other such remedies, to no avail. This past weekend, I was almost in a very serious accident on highway 94, as I did go out of town, after the above was fixed, but apparently it didn't help as my vehicle shook almost out of control again. I put on my breaks immediately and had to go to the side of the road. I stopped, sat for a while, and then drove off, and it was okay for a while, but in the meantime, a driver from behind almost hit me when I had to put my breaks on to try to control it some. I am very frustrated with this vehicle and feel it should have been called back when I first complained years ago. I wrote daimler Chrysler a letter regarding the fuel pump a few years ago, but the company didn't even respond. In the meantime, I really don't know what to do, I want to trade it in, but feel I was sold a real lemon and should be compensated for the hassles, repair costs, etc. Of what I was hoping would not happen when buying a new vehicle, and the way I take care of it. I cannot afford to buy another brand new one, but do feel the company should have called this vehicle back from the onset, as it has been a lemon, of which I have expressed many times to the dealership where I purchased it.

Engine dies when making a turn with a 1/4 tank of gas or less. Engine will run as long as you drive without making any sharp turns. Have not run out of gas even when the gauge shows empty as long as you drive straight. Contacted dealer to check for any recalls( spirit Chrysler and Jeep). The response was , a recall on defective fuel gauge only and would not cover my problem. Also the service person told me this is very common problem and it is a weak fuel pump and it would cost $495. 00 to replace. He also advised that most owners never let their gauge go below 1/2 because of this problem . I don't believe a weak fuel pump would cause this. It sounds like the fuel pickup is losing prime because of the lack of baffles in the tank to keep the fuel from moving. This sounds like it could be a very serious problem. I purchased this vehicle from my daughter and she advised me that this has been a problem for the last 30000 miles. Been.
