4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/15/2020

On 12/15/20 I drove less than 1 mi. Downhill, stopped at the stop sign & the engine quit & battery light came on. Engine restarted about 5 min. I was low on gas, so gas was added & I filled tank. The engine quit the next day at the same spot. It restarted after a few tries. The battery indicator showed it had a charge & oil was good. Repeat stalling at same spot on 12/24/20 and on 1/2/2021. Very concerning as I was stuck in the middle of the street and could easily be hit. I had 27,000 & currently have 35693 miles. This vehicle was serviced before I got it and is too new to be having problems.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

I have had my vehicle almost two years. Within the last four months I began having issues when I would go to pump gas. The nozzle at the gas station began to shut off repeatedly. It acts as if the vehicle is full regardless of how much gas is in the tank. I have been to different gas stations and tried different ways of pumping my gas all with the same problem. I have taken my vehicle to two mechanics now who have identified the problem to be the fuel tank. I have done research and found a lot of fellow owners of 2014 Jeep Cherokee trailhawks to also have this problem. I am out of my manufacturer's warranty and the extended coverage I purchased for the vehicle covers every aspect of the fueling system except the tank. I find that to be quite odd. In fact, the company does not offer any type of coverage that would cover the fuel tank itself. It takes me around 20 minutes or so to fill my gas tank and that is a mere estimate because there is no way other than guessing at this point to know when the tank is full. Is this something Jeep owners are going to have to endure or will there be a solution offered? thank you for your time and consideration.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/19/2019

On 12/19/2019 my wife had an attendant fill up the gas tank at our local service station, less than a 1/2 mile from our house! around the block from our house the transmission started to slip, the car started to shake, then stalled! the car wouldn't start for awhile! when it finally did start, it was still shaking, but being so close to home, she was able to get it home and in the driveway. The sansone Jeep service center claimed that when they filled the tank, they overfilled it causing, and costing me, $839. 62 worth of damage, which they decided,, was not their responsibility! well I beg to differ! the attendant may have rounded up to the nearest dollar, as they often do,, but how is that anything other than a design, and / or engineering failure? I think if 30 cents of fuel rounded up to the nearest dollar does that kind of damage,, that is an expensive and dangerous manufacturing defect, and should be recalled, and not become the consumers liability! if she just pulled on to an expressway,, there could have been a tragedy! I am enclosing photos of the work order and receipt,, because I'm not even sure what the actual damage and repair was, not understanding their jargon! thank you!.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/23/2019

When I fill my gas tank all the way to the top my car will stall for the first couple miles. This only happens when the gas tank is filled all the way. Very unsafe as power steering also locks.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/19/2019

After fueling, the Jeep will start surging, the idling becomes erratic and then it will stall out with the parking brake light coming on, service transmission light comes on, the d on the ip flashes and when placing gear selector from d to p, the Jeep makes a loud clunk which can be felt thru the floor. Shifting into any other gear does the same. This has happened over 10 times since purchasing new. We never top off the fuel tank and take care to fill up if tank shows 1/4 full. It's been to the dealer, at least twice, to have the transmission "flashed" but the problem keeps recurring. Each time the dealer (greenville Chrysler, greenville, TX) tries to charge us a diagnostic fee which we adamantly reject after the first time because the problem is exactly the same. Just 4 days ago, my wife was turning left at a light from a stop, after fueling, and it stalled in the middle of the intersection. She was able to restart it and drive but she could hear the loud clunk when putting it in d. She immediately came home and parked it and I confirmed the cel, service transmission light, parking light, flashing d on the ip and I switched from p to d and r and it clunked each time. I unplugged the battery to see if it would clear any codes and "reset" and let it sit overnight and this morning it started up fine with no warning lights on the ip. We took it this afternoon to pick up our son from school and it did the same thing with all the warning lights, clunking when shifting gear and we limped it home. I've disconnected the battery and will reconnect in the morning and take it to the dealership.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/29/2019

I have noticed in the past few weeks that my Jeep will stall and will not start back up again. I try and it wants to but doesnt. Then about five minutes later it will start and all is good. I thought it may be the gas but I have gone through different tanks and different gas stations and it continues to do this. Usually first thing in the am. I have been stuck in the middle of the road as it will start to go but stalls. What is wrong woth this vehicle. ?.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/05/2019

We have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The vehicle has been stalling after each gas fill up. The car has been doing this for 8-12 months, but last Friday after a fill up it not only stalled but jolted and the transmission service light came on as well as the d and r signs began to flash on the dash and gear shift. I have heard from a dealership that the only way to correct the problem is to not fill the tank up all the way (who wants to do that!! ) or replace the entire fuel tank. From my research, the problem is the vapor/liquid separator valve. This vehicle only has 42,000 miles and of course the warranty has expired. Jeep needs to recall this problem. It is dangerous and could easily stall in the middle of an intersection. Someone is going to get killed!!!.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

Trying to pump gas and the pump won't let me pump gas into the gas tank.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/23/2019

1. Jan 23, 2019lgoing around 35 mph, the car lost all power. Dashboard lit up. Brakes would not work, steering would not work. Car stopped on its own. Vehicle diagnosed by Jeep as needing transmission control module replaced. Did that within one week, transmission banging when going from first to second, second to third. 2. Feb 07, 2019: driving around 55mph, vehicle lost all power. No lights came on but vehicle shut down. After five minutes, was able to restart it. 3. Feb 7, 2019: turning right, vehicle lurched and skidded. 4. Feb 08, 2019: filled gas tank, pulled away from pumps. Vehicle lost power, shut down.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/15/2018

Multiple times after fueling up my vehicle my car will start to shake and sputter and just stall. Has happened while on the highway with my family and almost caused a bad wreck. Most recently it happened again on local streets. Dealer keeps saying they can't figure it out but I videotaped the issue. Also when fueling up the vehicle it gives a problem and takes forever to fuel up and spits gas out and back on to me . I don't feel safe driving this car anymore with my family and fca doesn't want to acknowledge there is an issue and says just fill the tank up only 3/4 . . Something needs to be done !!.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/05/2018

Unable to fill gas tank - nozzle keeps turning off and spitting gas out of spout. Tried slowing down flow but after tank is about 3/4 full it just keeps clicking and going off. This has happened at three different fuel stations over the last two weeks. My Jeep has about 15,000 miles on it and this has been the story for the last 3,000 miles.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/03/2018

Refueling system - during refueling, something in that process continues to cut off, acting as though the tank is full. We know this is not the case as we drive 200 miles per week round trip to work. This happens no matter which gas station we fill up at. This has also happened to our brother-in-laws vehicle. Still pending to be fixed as hopefully, it is under our warranty.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/11/2018

Every single time that I get gas, my car buckles up and then stalls and shuts off. This has been a problem for about 10 months now. This has become a high,y dangerous situation in the fact that the car stalls and shuts off when it should be good to go after getting a brand new tank of gas. I have spent too much money trying to figure out the issue, when this seems to be a major problem to all Jeep owners. What is it going to take, someone getting killed because their car stalled for someone to step up and doing something about this?! I have been reading and once I realized that I wasn't alone and this was happening to majority of Jeep owners it has made me so angry that this hasn't been a recall. The car is in motion and it buckles really bad and then stalls and shuts off. This is absolutely ridiculous that no one has stepped up and done something about this when I know so many people have put in a compliant. This needs to be fixed. . Read more...

20 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

Vehicle stalls and dies after gas tank is filled. Have narrowly avoided collisions and wrecks when this occurs. Very dangerous situation. Vehicle electronics cause you to have to shift into park and re-start. Very dangerous situation.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/27/2018

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving approximately 30 mph, after the vehicle had been refueled, the electronic emergency brake erroneously activated. As a result, the vehicle came to an abrupt stop. During the failure, the "put into park to switch gear" message displayed; however, the transmission shifter would only shift to the park position. In addition, the check engine and transmission service indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer (burk auto group Jeep, 1565 west ogden Ave. , naperville, illinois) where it was diagnosed that the evaporator control canister was faulty. The evaporator control canister was replaced and the purge control was reprogrammed, but the failure persisted. The contact indicated that the failures occurred only after the fuel tank was filled. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 47,000.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/01/2018

At around 50,000 miles, the check valve on the fuel tank filler tube malfunctioned. This malfunction caused fuel fill nozzles at the gas station to automatically stop and it was very difficult to fill the tank. The Jeep dealership diagnosed this issue as a check valve and the only solution to the issue was replacing the entire fuel tank. I had to pay out of pocket expenses to replace the entire fuel tank.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/27/2018

When attempting to fill the tank, less than 0. 25 gallons will go into the tank before the pump cuts off. At first we thought the problem may have to do with the pumps at the station. So we took it to other stations to have the problem continue. There has been no change to the situation since it began. When we took the car in for service and were told a valve in the tank had failed and the entire tank would have to be replaced. Others who have reported this problem on line have said that replacing the tank is not a guarantee of eliminating the problem. After replacing the tank, the problem reoccurred.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/08/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that fuel failed to enter the fuel tank, which spewed out several times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer (sheboygan Chrysler center inc, 2701 washington Ave, sheboygan, WI 53081, (920) 459-6020) where it was diagnosed that the valve in the fuel tank was sticking. The dealer replaced the fuel tank. The manufacturer had not issued any recalls, but issued three tsbs on the fuel system. The manufacturer provided no solution other than having the vehicle diagnosed and repaired by a dealer. The failure mileage was not available.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/13/2017

Since I purchased my used vehicle I have had a reoccurring issue where the vehicle hesitates to accelerate in the first gear. Recently it has gotten so severe that the vehicle completely shuts off. I've noticed that it occurs most frequently after I fill my tank and after prolonged periods of being stopped. It has occurred four times on the highway while sitting in traffic and most recently while waiting at a red light. When it occurs the vehicle still has power running through and a notices always pops up saying "car must be in park in order to shift. " in all cases I have had to turn the vehicle off and wait several minutes before the car was able to turn back on. In all cases no indicator light appeared as to what the problem could be. After taking the vehicle to get serviced thew first time I was told it was the battery. The second time I took it to get serviced I was told the evaporated canister and purge solenoid had to replaced. The issue still exists and the dealership has asked me to continue driving the vehicle as is until a service light appears because they do not know what the problem can be. This vehicle is not safe to drive as is.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/18/2017

When the fuel tank is allowed to auto fuel to full, without forcing extra fuel in the tank, the vehicle will stumble and die when entering traffic while leaving the fueling station. If we purposely fuel the tank no more than 75%, the issue does not occur. Every time the tank is allowed to fuel to full, the event happens. As speaking with my dealership in texas, they have acknowledged an increasing awareness of a rise in complaints regarding the patriot and Cherokee models. This is an extremely dangerous situation which disables the power steering and power brakes, regardless of the environment you have entered, when the vehicle fails. The fuel and vapor separator located on the top of the fuel tank assembly is apparently the culprit. When raw fuel is allowed to travel to the charcoal canister, the on board computer recognizes a dire situation and shuts down the engine. I am an ase master mechanic and work for a large school district managing the fleet. Imagine your elderly mother or grandmother faced with this situation an a busy highway.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/25/2017

3-25-17 - toms river, NJ vt - fuel/propulsion system I purchased a Jeep Cherokee latitude from lester glenn in toms river I have had constant fuelling issues for apx 2 weeks now. It started suddenly the pump clicks off after less the a gallon has been pumped like it is full and continues to click off while trying to full the tank. It would also some times "burp up" before it would shut off spilling fuel on the side of the vehicle. Taking 15-20 minutes to fill the tank. This has happened at several difference gas stations. I went to the dealer to have this checked, they told me the fuel tank need replaced which cost $800. 00 plus labor and taxes. This is not covered under warranty due to the miles on my car (56000). This seems to be safety issue, as the fuel spills causing both a fire and environmental problem. This also seems to be a manufactures defect as there has not any damage or modifications to the vehicle or fuel tank, the fuel tank is not a wearable parts and should be covered by Jeep even though I an over the miles.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/19/2016

Just under 36000 miles went to fill up with gas and as soon as I started the pump the gas cuts off as if I had a full tank. I tried tilting the nozzle, pulling it out a bit, trying to slowly pour, etc and nothing worked at two separate stations. Brought the Jeep into the dealership and it was diagnosed as either a bad check valve or board sensor which requires a new gas tank. Was told the gas tanks are back ordered from the supplier with no eta and sent home with my Jeep. Hoping the gas tank comes in quickly since it take a long time to fill up and because I cannot go by the automatic shutoff I risk over fueling the vehicle if I try to fill it up all the way.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/10/2016

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Upon refueling the vehicle, fuel spewed out of the fuel tank. The dealer diagnosed that the fuel tank assembly needed to be replaced. The contact waited over a month and was unable to determine when the manufacturer would supply the part to the dealer. The dealer did not state whether or not the part was on a backorder. The failure mileage was not available.

30 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/01/2016

Just under 20,000 miles went to fill up with gas and as soon as I started the pump the gas cuts off as if I had a full tank. I tried tilting the nozzle, pulling it out a bit, trying to slowly pour, etc and nothing worked at two separate stations. Can not go with the automatic shutoff I risk over fueling the vehicle if I try to fill it up all the way.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/30/2016

Purchased 2016 Jeep Cherokee brand new from susanville auto center and the car has now been in the shop 6 times and towed in the last time. It has now fried the coil and the spark plugs. It has been in for 2 wheel sensors, thermostate replacement at 1500 mile, coolant leak at 2500 and now the coil and plug issue while driving home from auburn CA over 200 miles from home car started jerking dash flickering and use over 3/4 tank of gas in 50 mile and would only go 45mph at 25k. I drive for a living an can not afford to be stranded in the middle of no where as a woman. I've contact Jeep corp and of course no response. Dealer wont do anything either. Now to try CA lemon law and attorney general.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 1997 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/22/2015

I went in for the recall regarding the fuel tank issue (in rear end collisions) - on September 22 2015. I was told that it would take 4-6 weeks in order to receive the mandated 100 dollar gift card. However, as of November 18th 2015 I have not received it. When I've called, I keep being told that the response to the gift card was more than Chrysler was anticipating and that it could be several more weeks before it's even mailed out. Furthermore, nobody on the recall resolution team has any information about when the gift cards will be mailed out, or when they will be received. However, they keep telling customers "4-6 weeks".

33 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 1995 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/26/2015

The contact owns a 1995 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while in park, the contact noticed strong fuel fumes emitting from the vehicle. In addition, the contact noticed that there was fuel leaking from the fuel tank. The contact independently diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was aware of NHTSA campaign number: 13v252000 (fuel system, gasoline, structure); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was 101,000.

34 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/04/2015

Hi my name is andrew I bought a 2001 Jeep Cherokee (xj) it's came to my attention that nhta has a recall for the grand Cherokee has a recall for the fuel tank protection I've been doing research for hours on the web and I have yet to find the same recall on the Jeep Cherokee models my fuel tank does not have any kind of protection and I'm sure I'm not the only Jeep Cherokee owner that has no fuel tank protection to be honest I love my Cherokee and there's no reason I could ever get rid of it other than the fuel tank safety if you could please address this issue you and or your company could not only save my life in a rear crash but you could save millions of live.

35 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 1997 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/27/2015

In response to the latest on the recall of Jeep grand Cherokees and Jeep liberties, I respectfully request a full review of the 1993 - 2001 Jeep Cherokee's rear impact safety. In NHTSA's initial request to Chrysler, this group of Cherokees was included as a subject vehicle, noting you had only received 15 voq's and only (1) was for a Cherokee, one is too many. Nhtsa also stated that "assessment of available data for the Cherokee did not establish an unreasonable risk. " was the available data at the time acceptable? or have you subjected the owners of these vehicles to a life of fear driving vehicle not properly tested. Why was there no rear end impact testing of the cars when they initially came on the market? the location of the gas tank is in exactly the same position as the grand Cherokee and the gas tank is also "plastic". My grandchildren ride in the back seat of a 1997 Cherokee and if it was to get rear-ended and caught on fire, how long do you think it would take their parents to get them out of their restraints? did you test that? as a family we do not feel safe and the government has done nothing to reassure us either. Why is it up to the public to file complaints? have you not thought that individuals driving these cars are just barely getting by, maybe not knowing that fires from rear impacts are not automatically reported? please, investigate further, I do not want to lose my grandchildren! kindly, sue lzicar- grandma.
