1999 Jeep Cherokee sport front seat frame has broken causing seat to shift forward and backward as you drive, notice frame has come loose from popping rivet. I have filed this complaint because I have noticed a number of people with the same problem and same car which would indicate a manufacture defect in the design of the seat frame.

I was driving home from class today when I heard my seat pop. After that my seat became wobbly and unsecure. When I got home I went to check it out and the weld was ripped out causing the problem. What frightens me is I did not do anything unusual and if I got in an accident I could have been severely injured or worse.

I have a 200 Jeep Cherokee sport, 4wd. I also had a 1996 Jeep Cherokee sport, 4wd. Both have the same 2 problems. #1 is a broken drivers seat. The bracket is too small and splits near the bolt holes. You can't drive like this, the current one (2000) started with a small noise when I was exiting the car. The next day it let loose on a bumpy road on a corner. I didn't think much of it the first time with the 1996, which I traded for the 2000, but since it has happened again, I did some research and it is a common problem. . Read more...

Bucket seat driver's side has fallen to pieces.
The contact owns a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. While the contact was approaching a stop, the driver's seat moved upward slightly. He examined the front seat and noticed that it had separated from the seat railing. The contact did not notice any difference in the vehicle prior to the failure. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The speed was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 60,000. Updated 07/29/08 updated 08/01/08.
The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the driver's seat was unstable and rocks from side to side and forwards and backwards. A mechanic replaced the bracket, but it still does not work. The current mileage was 134,800 and failure mileage was 10,263. Updated 10/08/08. Updated 10/10/08.
I own a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. The metal that attaches the seat to the front driver seat mounting has failed in multiple areas leaning the seat back and to the right. The seat is held by one bolt, while the metal is tearing on the others due to the tension. The two drivers are both fit, under 200lbs with good posture - this is clearly a structural defect. The seat angle now causes the driver back and hip pain and in an accident would pose an extreme danger to all passengers. Replacement driver seat is over twice the cost of matching passenger seat indicating that the manufacturer is taking advantage of their defect.
The driver's seat came off the track, it broke. The consuemr was just getting into vehicle when the seat suddenly broke on July 5, 2005. The consumer called the dealer and they claimed the the vehicle's warranty had expired. Updated 2/16/2007 -.
Drivers seat leather is splitting above the seat adjustment buttons; about 3 cracks on side of seat has not reached the part where the driver sits, is a Jeep grand Cherokee limited.
I own a 1996 Jeep Cherokee and the sheet metal that connects the drivers seat to the adjustable track under the seat is tearing and coming lose. I feel that this is a extreme safety hazard which could lead to an accident and further increased injury during that accident when the seat becomes disengaged from its anchoring points. While the Jeep is 7. 5 years old, I am only 5ft 10in 195lbs and do not think that the metal should be tearing. This being a safety issue I felt I should contact Jeep before taking action myself so if necessary Jeep could have the vehicle inspected and see if they had any concerns that needed to be dealt with. I have contacted Jeep staff from a local dealership all the way up to susan at Chrysler corp customer service (incident # 12175350) without luck in having my safety related issue addressed.

Getting into my 1996 Jeep Cherokee the nut which secures the drivers lower seat cushion frame to the seat adjuster pulled through the cushion frame. I am the original owner of this vehicle and it has never been in an accident and has 88932 miles on it. I feel this is a safety issue. If this vehicle is in an accident the forces which would need to be resisted would far exceed those a person could apply getting into the vehicle. Therefore, I feel this is obviously either a design problem or a manufacturing problem. I called 1-800-992-1997 and talked to their representative who said that if this was a manufacturing defect the vehicle is out of warranty, I. E. I have to pay to get this fixed. For safety reasons this must be fixed, do I use their products which might have a problem? are there any other reports of this problem? if there are any other reports of this happening add another one to the list.
Front driver's seat of 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport had failure in bracket holding on the left front and right rear of drivers seat to the floor.
Driver's side seat has become unsafe due to bolt securing front left of seat to vehicle being too small for hole and eventually wore through. Now due to stress failure from poor design the seat is unrepairable. Based on other complaints on this website, it appears fruitless to ask dealer for appropriate repairs at no cost. This poor design should not have resulted in added expense to owner.

The drivers seat frame was off track.
Drivers seat of 1998 Jeep Cherokee classic failed. Left front attachment rail nut worked it's way through the railing causing front left part of seat to dislodge itself from seat track, which allowed seat to fall back and to the right. Nuts which attach seat to track are smaller than bolt holes causing nuts to work through bolt holes resulting in seat track and seat base failure. I explained to dealer that this was not normal wear and tear. Dealer did not reimburse me for the cost of a new base, which cost $350. 00. The new base included larger attachment nuts with a note stating do not use old attachment nuts. The note and larger attachment nuts reinforces the fact that the manufacturer knew they had a problem with these attachment bolts, but refuse to acknowledge it or reimburse consumers for their expenses related to this problem.
While driving, the driver side seat front, snap off from the seat bracket mount, without cause. This resulted in the seat being mobile. The dealership is replacing the part. Please provide more details. Ts.
The seat frame on the front drive side is constantly moving. The vehicle is hard to manuever with a unstable seat to sit in. The seat track was recently repaired. The dealer is aware. Please provide more information.
Left front attachment of driver's seat tore loose. Hole for attachment bolt was very near edge of part allowing (starting?) tear.
: front driver's side seat bolt has came through the left part of the frame of the seat which caused the seat to fall back and to the right, consumer strongly believes this to be a safety issue, cust took veh to dlr, dlr stated that this is normal wear and tear, this has happened before to another Jeep I saw in this site. Consumer seeks to have the seat repaired at no cost as this is clearly unsafe if veh was to be in an accident.
Weld busted on seat on the back part as well as the piece that connects to front left section of the seat.
I purchased this used vehicle in March 1999 . I have been back to the dealer about this problem 3-5 times . I've even come out of my pocket for the expensive of a new seat because the dealer told me the seat was considered cosmetic and not warranty covered. As it stands right now ,the dealership is supposedly waiting on instructions from Chrysler about the specs for my seat. This has been going on for over 5 months . The seat is leaning dangerously to the right and it feels as if it is cracked.
Front driver seat frame replaced.
Front driver's side seat bolt has came through the middle frame of the seat which could cause the seat to fall backwards in the event the other bolt separates. Consumer has replaced parts. Please provide any further details.
Driver seat failed, consumer has been wainting 6 months for this part to come in.
Seat back does not adjust in full upright position due to design.
