36 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/30/2024

This vehicle has an extremely dangerous & ongoing issue related to the 9-speed transmission. Many times the vehicle does not know when to shift, sputtering/sluggish/jerky when accelerating from being stopped and coming to a stop. Frequently the vehicle engages itself into neutral and/or parking brake while driving at both city and highway speeds. This is a very dangerous safety hazard as any motorist trailing behind me can not anticipate the sudden deceleration that ensues. The vehicle then either becomes "stuck" in a gear at too high an rpm at given speed, or engages the parking brake or seems to then be in neutral. These instances regularly frequent, leaving me having to pull off side of roadway in sometimes dangerous position, perform handful of restart cycles in order to clear the condition and be back in a proper enough gear-state to get back on the road. The following cluster warning lights coincide with the issues: "check engine" - "service transmission" - "service parking brake". After a handful of restart cycles, the lights clear from the cluster, but the issues remain. The vehicle is unable to come to a comfortable complete stop without a premature-sudden jerk stop. This throws anyone in the vehicle forward in their seats. Also, when ascending an incline or traversing a decline, the vehicle shifts off-sequence in such a way to violently jerk-kick, feeling as though something in the drivetrain will disconnect itself from the chassis. I have recently attempted to submit a recall request over the phone with Chrysler as these conditions are well documented past recalls that are "no longer open". Most notably Chrysler recall numbers v69, s55, and p31. They will not "waive" repair costs for me. I purchased the vehicle in March-April of 2024 with 87,000 miles. If previous owner & dealership did not address the recall when it was open, I feel it should not be my financial responsibility to correct, nor should I be absorbing the negative equity when traded in.

37 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/12/2024

While the car was in motion, the car slowed almost to a complete stop & the check engine light came on, along with the alert “service electronic stability control”. When pressing on the gas, almost no power was present. Vehicle barely moves. This has happened several times in the last 4 weeks. The first time on 11/12/2024, the most recent time 12/4/2024. The throttle was replaced, but the incident repeated. The vehicle also occasionally rolls when it is put in park.

38 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/15/2024

Vehicle randomly imitates being in neutral when it is actually in drive mode. It has lost power on long hill climbs wthout any downshifting as would be necessary. Vehicle will occasionally accelerate on its own without notice. This has happened both on the open road and setting at red lights. These are sometimes able to reset with the turning off and back on of the motor. These symptoms started very randomly, but have increased in events over time.

39 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/10/2024

The service parking brake warning pops up on start up (p)!, along with the engine light and the traction control light. A warning that says service parking brake appears, around with a service transmission warning, and occasionally another message saying 4wd unavailable at the moment. Another message says restart car in park at zero speed, which the car is already in park & not moving. The car is not drivable when all of these are on. If I attempt to change gears, the gear light flashes & when the car shifts gears it is very loud. It is also hard to turn the wheel. The emergency park has also come on, in it's own, while driving. Almost killed me on the highway. Had also done it in my driveway, when starting to pull out. Also when the engine auto shifts, it makes like a whining noise. The engine sounds to go in overdrive whenever going down hills or up hills. Down is worse though. This has been doing this since I got the car in 2021. I expressed these issues to the place I bought the car from, just days after buying it, and they refused to fix anything even though it was under the 30 day warranty. They claimed no issues. I have proof of mentioning these issues, to the person who sold me the car through the dealership.

40 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/07/2024

I was driving in city traffic and when I tried to accelerate, the Jeep would not increase in speed. It caught per se and nothing happened. Then, the Jeep started downshifting very hard upon slowing. When we went to the dealer and spoke with the technician, he immediately said that the computer needed updating. He said he's been seeing this a lot in these models. Sure enough, $300 dollars later and an upgraded computer, it is driving fine. I want to add that the dealer and service department was great, I just think this problem is somehow on Jeep's end.

41 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/01/2024

Ptu problems. Grinding noise from rear when turning slow and accelerating. Remove fuse for ptu and noise goes away. Put fuse back in it is back. Vehicle moves a lot when put in park and sometimes when using remote start you can see the vehicle jump forward a couple feet. My vehicle has all symptoms from recalls NHTSA 20v-343, NHTSA 20e-037, NHTSA 23v-302. But my ptu part number of:68283349aa is not included in any recall. This needs to be looked at further and extend the recalls to all ptu’s on the Jeep Cherokees 2014-2017. Chrysler knows these are bad.

48 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/09/2024

The vehicle cut off on me while the vehicle was in drive and I was driving on the highway going 70mph. It has done this several times now. The car cuts off. The vehicle looses power.

49 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/25/2024

4 wd service light comes on randomly, started the middle of February. It took a couple of weeks to get an appointment with the dealership. Twice in the past 2 weeks the car has slowed down, lost power in traffic to where I had to pull over and let the car go at a low speed until it would go at normal speed again. There is an active recall for the part needing to be replaced with the same year model however this VIN isn't listed in the recall.

50 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/04/2024

Cruise control would not disengage. Instead it accelerated me to 85 mph is rush hour traffic. The car continued to accelerate will out responding to any commands to turn off cruise control. Second time this has happened. It was supposed to be fixed by doing an update to the car. This did not work. The second time I attempted to use cruise control after having had the long block engine replaced due to the oil consumption law suit, the car once again had the same problem with now slowing down. I tried putting the car into neutral and pressing the break. The car was accelerating so fast. The brakes had no effect without causing me to lose control. I was forced to put the car into a ditch at 75 mph. Rather than to rear end the dead stopped 3 lanes of traffic ahead of me and being pinned in by the traffic behind me. Car flipped I now have brain damage and failing kidneys due to blood transfusions.

51 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/25/2024

My vehicle - at random - will switch to traction control, 4x4, and will slow down while driving, and will not allow me to go above 45 mph, with the engine rpm’s revved as high as if I’m driving 85 mph. No mechanic has been able to accurately diagnose it, and I continue to pay for different repairs, without getting the problem actually solved.

52 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/02/2024

My 2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude only had 25000 miles on it when I bought it. Within a month the emergence break would come on by itself randomly while driving or beginning to accelerate from a parked or stopped state. Vehicle also can be parked completely level and it states the vehicle needs to be returned to park and restarted. Meanwhile all the lights come on on the dash and the shifter lights up red. Every single gear. It literally will not move unless you drift. It also will not start randomly, you will go out get in and for no reason it won’t turn over, yet the electrical systems will turn in fine, it’s getting power. In order for this to stop, you have to keep turning it on and off and apply the parking brake and the brake and than release them…. Over and over with intermittent breaks in between until it finally turns over. If you manage to get it started than it won’t shift properly. It stays in an extremely low gear unless you accelerate rapidly. And it won’t accelerate rapidly, your foot can be to the floor and it’s barely going until it gets into third and than just keeps rising never down shifting again until you coast to a stop and have to turn it off again and start the process over. On hills when this happens you will get hit and killed bc it won’t go in time for you to get out of oncoming traffic’s way. It has shut off while driving on the highway. Left me stranded blocking people in in parking lots. And almost gotten me and my family killed in several occasions. There are no similar circumstances in which it does this. It is comletely random and that makes it terrifying. I have 2 children that I am afraid to take anywhere now, and the Jeep was bought to keep them safe and able to get anywhere in case of inclement weather etc. As if that’s not enough, the passenger seat floor is always wet. There is no leak coming in from doors or windows so I have no idea. And the radio and ac/heat turn on and off by themselves constantly.

53 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

The car is not shifting properly and will "jump" or "lunge" forward while driving. I have noticed that the rpm's will jump and bounce around, seemingly down shifting, then shift again, and then down shift again, which causes jerking motion.

54 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/06/2023

I honestly have no idea what system failed but I was doing 80 on the interstate and my car shifted into nuetral . All of the lights came on parking brake , brake and then my car would not drive any longer , luckily I was able to coast onto the shoulder but I literally could have been killed. I had just passed road construction that went from 4 lanes to 2 barracaded lanes. I waited 30 minutes and my car restarted like nothing . So I thought maybe it was a glitch until I was driving again and it did it again. I had to keep putting my car in park and then shifting it back to drive . It has not been inspected yet as I'm trying to get it to the dealership without it cutting off .

55 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/01/2023

When gas pedal is pressed starting from a stop, the Jeep doesn’t move right away, then jerks forward. Also, when driving, it sounds like the automatic gear is not shifting up, sounds like the Jeep is “reving up”. Another thing happening, is as I start moving, I hear a clunk sound, towards the rear of the Jeep, like something might fall off.

56 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/30/2023

Vehicle stops accelerating randomly and loses power. Service electronic throttle control light comes on and engine light and traction control light and vehicle will not accelerate or stalls. Had vehicle towed to dealership and the code is saying the ptu is bad and needs to be replaced. This happens all the time, thankfully I’ve been very lucky thus far not having my children in the vehicle with me when it happens as this could cause a very serious accident.

57 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/30/2023

I believe the ptu is malfunctioning and causing the transmission to slip or jerk. I am experiencing uncontrolled movement while driving. The vehicle is available at any time for inspection upon request. This puts myself and 2 small children at risk while driving, therefore my ability to use this vehicle is extremely limited and high risk. I have taken it to a Jeep dealership in porterville CA who stated my transmission needed replacement. They verbally stated my ptu was ok but never confirmed it with documentation. I have taken it to private mechanics who could not find any issues saying that the problem is internal. The mechanics I have taken it to in the past year have not come to a solution other than to suggest I wait for a resolution to the recall. The service all wheel drive light came on/off about a year ago and was consistant for several months but has turned off for awhile now.

58 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/06/2023

Urgent: date of near life & death situation. 10-6-2023. This 2019 kl Cherokee lost accelerating power while in heavy traffic. As the car was losing speed the "d" drive indicator on center dash started flashing a moments later 2 messages displayed: msg 1: service transmission restart in park with vehicle @ zero speed. Msg 2: shift to park or neutral press brakes and select gear. (center dash is the screen between tachometer and speedometer) followed instructions, turned key to off position for a few seconds then started engine placed shifter in drive, accelerated engine to 2000 rpms, car failed to move. Turned key off a second time, waited about 18 seconds for the mileage readout to clear then another 6 seconds (+-) for the outline light bars for the center screen to clear. Then when started it engaged a drive gear. Even in residential areas there are large trash trucks and large delivery trucks hurrying about, added to this vehicle faulting in roadway much less a center lane on the interstate with no time to pull out of traffic. Don't trust the car seat and booster seat even with air bags to save your children. Action is required to remove these vehicles from service after it has been proven the manufacturer cannot supply the dealership with a successful repair for a well documented failure of a common safety hazard in many of their vehicles. The dealership did not duplicate the problem but did confirm all of the information supplied them matched with the faults stored in pcm memory. Not being able to duplicate leaves the technician with just an image of the perils these faults puts the operator and public in, catastrophic. No specific component could be proven at fault, with vehicle operating normal. After a diagnostic fault code retrieval the option was to allow them to spend maximum 6 hours in electrical testing to verify integrity of electrical connections and components. Trust and confidence in an organizations leadership to accept responsibility for mistakes.

59 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/21/2023

The service shifter light came on and keeps coming on sporadically. I was dismayed to learn that there are numerous complaints regarding the service shifter light on the 2017 Jeep Cherokee. Has this ever been formally addressed.

61 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

I believe my pcm went bad.

63 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/04/2023

Since inception of purchasing the vehicle in January 2019, I have experienced a sudden jolt, banging sound/feeling. In the beginning the issue was subtle. In addition, I have felt a sudden loss of speed. It should be noted I did not seek any service at this time. As a side note, sometime in 2020/2021 I received a letter of a recall for fault ptu however this was for another Jeep I owned no longer in my possession. This prompted me to call mopar to see if my current VIN was possibly on that first recall of Jeeps however I was advised it was not even though I had experienced the same issues described. Fast forward to as of recently August 2023, I received a recall letter with this current VIN and proceeded to the nearest dealership for repair. I was advised the repair was a software update. As I was leaving the dealership after the update, I felt the loss of power, jolt and grinding when turning to backup with the service 4wd illuminated. I reparked and walked back inside the dealership when I was advised the repair was only a software update. In addition, I was advised a diagnostic test could be done for $175. I was advised to wait a couple of key cycles to see if the issues corrects itself. The software update has since not corrected itself and I feel as though I am at risk of an accident. This issue is getting worse with my vehicle and is a safety concern. I feel as though I am being penalized for faulty ptu which is on the manufacturer for costs to assure correction/repairs made. Thank you your time in reading this.

64 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/19/2023

The car lost acceleration power when driving, showed no codes, and displayed a message to shift to park and restart car. This incident happened twice including after the car was taken to the dealer, who could not find anything wrong with the car. A google search revealed several 2018 vehicles with that problem and a recall for 2017 models and earlier; however, the 2018 model has not been recalled and should be.

65 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/01/2023

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at approximately 50–60 mph, the vehicle hesitated and stalled. While driving 75 mph and decelerating to 55 mph, there was a thumping sound detected, and the vehicle started shuddering. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified about the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000. The VIN was not available.

66 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/09/2023

My 2016 Jeep cheroke with 75,000 miles started to show a yellow 4wd service light. It would come on and off. I brought it to a Jeep service repair center, where it currently sits, and they confirmed the ptu is no good. Needs to be replaced at a cost of over $3,000. And to make matters worse, I was advised not to drive the Jeep because it is a safety issue! also, there is a recall out for "certain" Jeep Cherokees, not mine, with the same exact issue! my Jeep Cherokee was manufactured during the time of the recalled Cherokees but it isn't part of this recall at this point?! I do not have $3,000 to repair a failed ptu which is part of a recall but not my Jeep "yet," but if I am driving the Jeep and the ptu totally fails, the Jeep will lose power to the wheels and it can cause an accident. Jeep knows this ptu is an issue but won't help. This is a safety issue.

67 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/30/2023

I just bought my vehicle and I looked it’s been driving funny I took it to the shop they said I need my ptu fixed when I looked it up there is a recall but I don’t understand why my car not involved in the recall when it’s majority Jeeps problem right now.

68 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/28/2023

While driving, at any speed, for any length of time (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours) the car will act like it is shifting to neutral, no matter how fast I am traveling, it’s happened at 10 mph and up. It’s random, no rhyme or reason. It has been in 4 shops since November and does not code for errors. No one has found the issue. It is unsafe as it will redline the rpm, make the accelerator useless, and the only cure is to drop the car into neutral and abruptly stop. This can lead to a serious accident as there is not time to come to a safe stop or pull over safely on certain roads. It appears like this may be the same issue as a recall from 2016, maybe the fix didn’t fix the hazard? some lights flash on the dash. Immediately when it happens, the traction control light comes on, and occasionally the “service transmission” warning will briefly appear. My transmission has been checked multiple times now and it appears to be in good condition. One Jeep dealer thought it could “maybe” be a transfer case issue as it wasn’t going into gear. They did the w20 recall and it hasn’t had that issue since. The red lining and apparent neutral shift is still happening. We had another shop give us a 2nd opinion on the transfer case, it was functional and nothing was wrong with it. Two shops concluded the transmission and transfer case were fine. We have had three diagnostics on the car, one came back with a faulty oil sensor, which turned out to be unplugged, however we replaced it anyway to be safe. And one came back with voltage errors since it sat in their parking lot for a month, they replaced a battery cable and nothing else came up. But they were willing to replace the transfer case in a maybe, which prompted our second opinion. This is frustrating and I am terrified to drive it. The last time I did I nearly got hit by a semi truck when it redlined the rpm and I had to abruptly stop where there was no safe place to pull over. This happened 4x in 20 miles.

69 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/11/2023

There was no accident but I would like to prevent one. I believe there should be a recall on my vehicle regarding the service shifter. This defect could potentially result in power loss to the front wheels and the transmission being impossible to put into park. My vehicle service shifter light is on and my car jerks while driving. Is this not a problem with many Jeeps?.

70 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee
