1 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2011

While driving down the highway the car shut off while going 60 miles per hour. I coasted over to the side of the road. The engine was able to restart. It was very dangerous though having the car shut off while driving 60 miles per hour on a busy road and trying to pull off the road safely. The engine lights stayed on after the car was restarted. I had the car towed to the service center for repair. They re-flashed to correct the codes.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The interior lighting and the instrument panel lighting began to flicker erratically, and a warning light on the instrument panel displayed a message indicating that the transmission overheated. The contact also stated that she previously experienced intermittent deceleration as well as flickering of the interior lighting. The vehicle was towed home. The dealer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to bring the battery in for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled in the fast lane of a major highway. She shifted the vehicle into neutral and attempted to restart the vehicle and nothing happened. After she waited fifteen seconds, the vehicle started normally. The contact stated that the failure occurred three to four times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the failure. She was advised by the dealer that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 75,000.

4 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2011

Jeep Commander gets hard jolt, as if being hit from behind, and engine "dies". No lights on dash, just won't go. Engine doesn't rev. Tach at 0 regardless of amount of accelerator. You can put it in park and it will start again. This has happened on several occasions, I have had it in the shop on numerous occasions, always with the report of nothing is showing on the computer report. I have spent over $1000 on various fuel systems services, tune ups, etc which they say may be the problem, but it is still stalling. Dealer says that the problem can't be replicated. With all these reports, and the obvious danger of an unexpected stall this is life threatening and needs to be recalled.

5 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2010

My check engine light came on in my 2006 Jeep Commander this is a common problem code 0700 failure of transaxle control module it was a recall for the 4. 7 but not the 3. 7 it can be lifethreatning for your truck to hesitate while you are merging into traffic something needs to be done.

6 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2009

Driving my 2006 Jeep Commander on 635e in dallas, TX, the car just died going 70 mph with 6 lanes of traffic, and I was in the lane next to the hov lane and it had not shoulder, just a concrete wall. Rather that cross 4 lanes of heavy fast traffic with no acceleration in the car, I went into the hov lane which had less traffic and got rear ended but was not a serious wreck as it well could have been. I put my car in park and started it and took the next exit and reported the accident to the police. When I got home I looked up recalls for my Jeep and found the v8 engine had a recall on the front control module since the car would stall on the highway. My car is a v6. I took it to the dealership and they could not find anything wrong. I called Jeep and they said I should take it to another dealership 50 miles away to "see another doctor to find the problem" in the meantime I have to fix the damage from the rear end collision and thank my luck stars I am still alive to fix it. Your campaign number for the recall I referred to 08v059000.

7 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While at a stop light, the vehicle suddenly surged forward and then stalled. When the contact examined the vehicle, she noticed that it will shift into the drive gear, and could only be driven in third gear. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 59,000.

8 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2009

Recall notice from Chrysler. Took Commander into shop for repair. After 4 hours, technician stated that unable to download program from corporate computer to fix. Need to bring car back later. This is the second time for a recall, and our car has been in there a total of 4 times for safety issues such as broken seat belts. It has been there a number of other visits, starting at 2555 miles, for defective windshield mount, defective gas fill line mount, and defective windshield wiper fluid pump. Previous hazards were handled, but resulted in a good number of days of at least 6 hour services. Now, after 4 hours, this service is not completed and I have to bring the car back again.

9 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 65 mph the vehicle stalled without any prior warnings. As a consequence there was an increased risk for a vehicle crash. The vehicle was towed to a local repair facility, in which a mechanic stated that the transmission caused the failure. No repairs were made. The current and failure mileages were 60000.

10 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2008

2006 Jeep Commander stalls at no particular time, rolls back on an incline after taking foot off brake pedal, vehicle will shut off at no particular time. Jeep has recalls for these problems but the VIN says none is available therefore dealer will not perform recall. Recall is for the v8 model but the vehicle has the exact same transmission and has the same characteristics even though it is a v6 model. Very unsafe to drive while having these problems.

11 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2008

While driving, there is a loud grinding noise coming from front drivetrain(?). Vehicle bucks and engine shuts off. Electrical power also shuts off. This is the third occurrence of such an incident, and all the info submitted here pertains to this 3rd incident.

12 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2008

2006 Jeep Commander with 5. 7l hemi stalls while driving at all levels of speed without warning. All power is lost, and I had two instances of this occur within one week while making a left turn. Three visits to the dealer via tow truck in two weeks and after I was told it was done yesterday, six miles into my ride home, it happened again. This is a life threatening situation. Build date is 5/06. All tsbs have been applied to no avail. Need help!!.

13 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2008

My 2006 Jeep Commander stalls. I purchased the vehicle 2 months ago and the Jeep has stalled around 10 times to date. I took the Commander to barton Jeep here in spokane. . . They said they "flashed" the computer. They said this should fix the problem. Nope! stalled 3 times in the last week (which is when we got the Jeep back from barton Jeep). My concern is that my wife could get into a serious accident if the vehicle decides to stall on the freeway or somewhere else. Please help me!.

14 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2008

Had cruise control set to 65 mph on the freeway. Out of nowhere the car began accelerating on its own to reaching speeds of 85 mph. If cruise control is turned on now it accelerates on its own and I MA not able to control the speed at all. Have taken car to dealership but they say nothing is wrong. Front windshield leaks and lets in too much air. I should not have to pay for repairs since it is a defect. Driver side window does not go down. Now rear passenger side window is starting to get stuck. Have replaced driver side switch and the problem still exists. Front passenger window goes down but the driver side which has controls to all the windows does not work for any of the windows. My car accelerates on its own on a daily basis. It can go from 35 mph to uncontrollable speeds. Taken to dealership several times but they never find the problems. Dealership cant even figure out what is wrong with the electrical windows.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The vehicle was parked in the driveway with the gear shifter in the park position. There was an occupant in the rear passenger seat. The air bags failed to deploy with the massive impact. The failure occurred without warning. The occupant sustained minor injuries and there was personal property damage. The vehicle was completely destroyed. The police and ambulance were called to the scene and a police report was filed. The failure and current mileages were 60,000. Updated 03/18/09. Updated 03/19/09.

17 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2008

Our 06 Jeep Commander has been a nightmare since the day we purchased it used with 14k miles on it in 3/07. We continue to have problems with the dash lights coming on, stalling just today 7/22- the lights lit up and the air conditioner quit working!!! no fan no blower. . . Nothing. It has been brought in for the recall for this but it keeps happening. Oh and did I mention that autopark Jeep in cary, nc sold me a lemon/buyback. . . . They gave me the carfax report after 30 visits to the service dept. . . . Fool me once, fool me twice. . . I am hoping that Jeep will buy it back again for this complete lemon!! I know have 37k on it and the service dept was talking that they did not know if Jeep would cover the work. . . . They can keep it. .

18 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2008

I purchased my 2006 Jeep Commander 3. 7 4x4 in 2007 as a demo. It had 18,000 miles on it when I bought it and now is has 28,000. I have not driven it very much as you can tell by the mileage, and it has only had to have two oil changes (every 3,000 miles) and is almost due for another. I have been having issues for three weeks now, 1. First it stalled in traffic when I was doing about 30 mph. 2. The engine light came on and stayed for a day, went off and came back on two days later and has been on since. 3. When driving, the car will shift really hard into second gear for no reason. On the 3rd of July it started doing all sorts of weird shifts and stalls, I made an appointment with the dealer tomorrow, and I have not driven it since the 3rd of July because I am worried about breaking something.

19 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2007

November 24 evening leaving fuji (children in car) November 30 morning on way to work ? hit mailbox (baby in car) December 5 morning on way to work ? dies turning out of subdivision and stalls in middle of street (baby in car) there was one other instance when I had all kids with me?it was prior to Nov 24 but I do not recall the actual date all of the instances the engine stalled, the lights (when on) went out, I lost the ability to steer and brake as well. The mph ranged from 4 or 5 mph to 35 mph. There were times when it was warm and days that it was cold. Nothing seemed to standout as a possible "trigger" I took car to dealer after the November 24th incident. Tony in the service department said there was really nothing that they could do unless it was a problem they could "make happen" when they drove it. A few days later I wrecked into a mailbox when my Jeep stalled and I lost steering and braking capability. . . . I am lucky it was not head on with a large truck or a tree.

20 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2007

I leased my 2006 Jeep Commander 4x2 4. 7 v8 in 2006. The vehicle began having problems the same day I brought it home. The vehicle stalls frequently and the electric system disables. The stalling occurs without warning. The stalling also occurs at various speeds and while the vehicle is not moving. When the engine shuts off, the vehicle is completely disabled. The brakes wont work and I lose total control over the vehicle. I was involved in an accident in 2007 due to this issue, Jeep/Chrysler has denied the repair even though I received a recall letter. The odometer is also incorrect, it changes numbers frequently. Chrysler informed me that the vehicle is safe to drive and denied any further repairs concerning the recall. The vehicle is still the same, it stalls very often. Please help me.

21 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2007

Car frequently stalls. Dealer has been unable to fix it. Ongoing for several months. The car has been in at least five times for this problem.

22 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2007

My wife was preparing to merge into traffic from a parking lot on a busy street in our hometown. In this particular parking lot there is a telephone pole near the egress portion of the parking lot. As she was pulling out the vehicle stalled, causing complete loss of control of steering and braking causing the vehicle to strike the telephone pole causing some damage to the Jeep. We purchased this vehicle because we felt it would be safe for our family of 5, myself, my wife and my three young girls under the age of 8. I have lost all confidence in the safety of this vehicle and I refuse to put my family in jeopardy with this vehicle, this vehicle has done this many times before and the dealer can not find a fix. I have contacted an attorney and he has taken my case as a lemon law claim will be filed. This vehicle has had numerous other problems since the week we brought it home. I have always owned Jeep, from cj's to cherokee and now the Commander, I have always been happy with the Jeep legacy but I have lost all faith in the new Jeep. Please help before someone gets killed in this Jeep.

23 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2007

At approx 29k my 2006 Jeep Commander began acting like it was going to stall out while the engine idled whether in park or drive. It also would act like it was going to stall if I were turning and hit a curb or bump. Examples of when this happened: 1. At night, my engine was running, the car was in drive with my foot on the brake and my door was open; the interior lights began to dim and the engine almost cut off. 2. I was turning right from one road to another and hit the curb and the engine almost stalled. 3. I was stopped at an intersection waiting to turn right onto a road when the engine almost stalled. 3. I was parked with the engine running idle at a gas station looking for my atm card when the engine almost stalled. These instances seem to happen every couple of weeks. The Jeep has been to 2 different dealers three different times for this and they told me that they can't replicate the problem and that my alternator is working at the correct amps. In addition, I have had transmission leaks and my family was left stranded 6 hours away due to a transmission problem that one dealer said was the mistake of another when they fixed my transmission leak.
