50 problems related to vehicle speed control have been reported for the 2006 Jeep Commander. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
This has been the 3rd time this type of event happens, the first time was at a city street driving straight forward at 30-35mph and the engine started stalling, truck completely went off, head lights would go on and off, along with my interior dashboard indicators and media center. Second time, same thing, and the third time while driving at about 35-40mph in a city street and gradually slowing down to 10-15mph to make a left the truck completely went off, head lights would go on and off, along with my interior dashboard indicators and media center. It seem like I had turned off the engine completely for like a split second. I though it might've been that I hit the key with my knee, but I pulled over restarted the engine after 15 min, and the problem continued. All the lights would go on and off and the engine power would shut down, when putting the gears, it would sound very forcing. I turned it off again and waited 30 min, restarted the truck again it did the problem for a few seconds and then it was like nothing ever happened.
This issue has happened three times now, I have been driving on the freeway at about 70 mph and all of a sudden there is a ding on the dash board and the car stalls, and the engine light comes on. Once you shut down the car and start it again the car works fine but the engine light stays on for a couple of hours, according to Jeep they charge for a diagnosis and I see online that this is happening a lot in my type of vehicle but Jeep has yet to acknowledge it. I think it is very dangerous since I have been driving on a freeway where people are driving as fast or faster than me and could cause a problem.
I was driving to drop my son off at school and when I would press the gas, it wasn't moving like it should've been. It was barely moving, you could engine rev but it wasn't moving and didn't move until it got to 2, ig 2nd gear on the dash.
Vehicle is having issues getting stuck in gear and not shifting unless you stop, turn off, and when turned back on will work for a while and then happen again. 3rd row seat belt doesnt work.
My Jeep loses power every time I drive it stalls out while driving (scary when it happened on the freeway) at times it stops shifting and then slams like the whole transmission fell out of Jeep.
The problem started in January 2019. The vehicle started having idling issues, cold start in morning idles around 900, when put in reverse it dips to around 500 and wobbles back and forth while backing up, put in drive and it would be ok but would stall sometimes at stop sign- check engine light never came on. I had throttle body cleaned and fuel system service done and the engine light came on same day. Took it to the dealer for recalls and they replaced throttle body also. It drove ok for a day and I have the unstable idle back and the rpm jumps up while in drive but stopped at a light. About a week ago I am slowing down to stop at a light ahead and it starts vibrating like it is going to stall and the etc and tcs light came on and I shut it off and it cranked right back up and drove it the rest of the day with no issue. Etc light will come on while driving and cause no issues other than the unstable idle. Today-5-10-19, coming home and start to turn left and etc and tcs light come on and it seems like it is in limp mode because there is a loss of power and etc light is now blinking, so I pull in a parking lot, cut it off for five minutes and it cranks right back up with no lights on and I am able to drive 5 miles home.
When cruise is set car excels in speed.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle accelerated forward and the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact called a local dealer (twin city Dodge Chrysler, 650 sagamore pkwy s, lafayette, in 47905) and was informed to schedule a service appointment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 154,197.
While sitting at a stoplight vehicle will not accelerate feels as the loss of power. Vehicle does not want to move then told it's in some sort of safety mode I think the lead frame is failing from what I can tell. Vehicle sitting at a stoplight fails to accelerate barely moves.
Takata recall my vehicle was in motion @ 75 mph on the high way when the transmission shifted itself into 3rd gear and would not shift out.
Transmission stop shifting properly and shuttering in motion. . Took it to transmission shop, they said transmission needed replaced. Got new transmission, still had same problem. Took it back to shop, they did a second repair and charged me $2959. 50. They didnt described what they did the second time. I had no problems since. . So far.
My Jeep didn't pull correctly, it back fire and wind. We took it to Chrysler to get it fix. The mechanic told us that the solenoid went bad. . . So were charged $405 for a converter, $357 for a solenoid, $7. 75 for a sealer, and $3. 60 for a nut none. . . Total labor and parts $1930. 31. . . Today we go to pick it up, and it still makes the same noise and the problem worsen. We left it there to be fixed again. . . At the moment we are out of $2000, no car, and then had the nerve to tell me it was something else wrong with my car and it'll be $800 more to fix it. Needless to say, I told them I wanted to speak with the owner, he said he'll call me back. . Not even two minutes later, he goes. . . "we'll take care of it. . .
When driving my Jeep Commander it stalls. It happens when I am stopped and try to go or when I slow down then try and accelerate. My life has been at risk when this happens. One of the times I was driving on the interstate going 65mph and it stalled. I am extremely upset about this especially since I have a 2 year old son that is in the car with me.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while stop at a light, the vehicle accelerate independently. In addition, the contact had struggle putting the key in the ignition switch and the key would get stuck. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). The contact mention did not had these problems until after the recall repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 17,500. Ak.
I was driving down the hwy and my vehicle turned off. I lost power steering breaks and was not able to properly maintain control of my vehicle in order to avoid an accident. This had happened twice before this time, and I looked to see that there was a recall on my Jeep for an ingition switch and the the exact discription of what would happen if my car was effected fit my situation. I then called Jeep and advised them of this and they said I neeeded to have it diagnoised by a Jeep dealership. I had the vehicle towed at my expensense and rented a car at my expense. The dealership confirmed my assumption and in fact the issue I was experiencing is part of the recall. Jeep now tells me they don't have the parts and they have not made a decision on whether it's neccessary to provide a replacement vehicle until they have a resolve. Am I supposed to be without a vehicle or potentially drive mine with 3 children, and potentially loose power again causing a loss of control? what I am supposed to do from here?.
Was driving on highway and car went in to manual mode to neutral and will not come out of 3rd gear.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, several warning lights became illuminated. Additionally, the headlights became dim, the radio volume independently lowered, speedometer and tachometer fluctuated. The vehicle was taken to bald hill Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram located at 1035 bald hill rd, warwick, ri 02886, (844) 847-4671) however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated that several years ago, the alternator was replaced however, the replacement of the alternator failed to eliminate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
While driving the car shut off. No speed or power steering. This occurred on a busy road and a crash was avoided. I have called Chrysler and was told the recall parts are still unavailable.
2006 Jeep Commander idling up on its own and engine made a loud noise. The dealer informed the consumer, the noise was normal for a hemi engine. The consumer was then informed, the problem was the throttle. Also when it rained, the consumer discovered water on the driver's side floor. The dealer was unable to find a leak.
While attempting to get on the highway the Jeep lost power at approximately 35mph from the on ramp on to the right lane of the freeway. All the lights shut off, all the gauges shut down, and the vehicle began to slow down. It lasted approximately 4-5 seconds, and after stepping on the accelerator, the Jeep re-engaged and was able to be driven to a safe destination. The Jeep is under recall p41 for ignition switch issues, which may or may not be causing the issues, but the parts are not available from Chrysler. The parts have not been manufactured and/or distributed. It is possible the vehicle has a bad control module. The recall for faulty control modules was issued sept. 21, 2014 but this make and model was not covered in that recall . . . Although it seems likely it is having similar issues.
As I driving down the highway I can be going between 40-60 mph and if I let off the gas and just coast and then give it gas again its like it is in neutral and it continues to do this until the car is going 20 mph or under and it is very dangerous it has caused me to almost have several wrecks and I have 5 kids which were with me in the car each time this has happened to me something needs to be done!.
Vehicle seem to loose power while cruising at or around 45 mph or when engages 4th gear. Rpm's drop really quick from 3500 to almost 1500 rpm's in matters of second. Increasing the risk of a rear end collision if trying to overtake another vehicle or driving up hill, dealer can't find problem. Problems happens every time under any weather condition.
Bought this Commander 08/02/14, about two weeks after driving it . It started dropping out of gear and and getting stuck in 3rd gear. And when driving on the highway it would completely shut down , I sent it back to where I bought it. For them to fix the proble being I havent even made my first car payment. And the gave me a run around for two weeks saying they was waiting on parts . Then said they had it and had my Jeep for almost 4 weeks . Before getting my Jeep. Now its 01/02/15 and its doing it again. I cant make it back and forth to work. Or get my kids. With my Jeep stuck in third gear and dieing for no reason.
My Jeep Commander has a recall, I took it in right away and was told part not available. It has been over a year and still not fixed. The dealership says no parts in yet and its been over one year. One year and I have made multiple trips and calls to the rio vista California Chrysler dealership and their response is that Chrysler is to send me a letter when the part is available. Dealership is saying part not available. This is a safety issue and my children's safety comes first. I'm appalled at how this has been handled. I've been patient for too long.
All the light on my dash board have been flickering on and off for the past two months. It does not seem to affect my engine however it will completely take all gauges to zero while I am driving. I drove it last night and when it happened it killed my all my lights. I can hear a clicking sound when the flickering happens. It doesn't click continiously but enough to make me very uneasy.
While driving the Commander at various speeds everything suddenly turns off. Acceleration is immediately decreased and all dashboard functions are gone. I have to shift to neutral and re-start the engine, all while still driving. This is very dangerous. I have had this car for 2 months.
Engine idles when stopped and sometimes the Jeep lunges forward. Lights on dash come on intermittingly. Tires keep needing replaced even when getting the Jeep continually balanced and rotated. They wear down on the outer rim of front tires only. Have to keep getting new batteries because vehicle keeps dying. I have had more problems with this vehicle since I bought it new in 2006 than I have had with a car in a lifetime. Interior power stations dont work, passenger window will not close or open at times. Some times the horn will just start going off. I keep receiving recall notices almost yearly. Jeep needs to recall this vehicle. It has been a lemon from the second I brought it home.
I was stopped at an intersection. When I proceeded to go across the intersection, the vehicle started going but very slowly no matter how much I pressed the accelerator and there were cars coming at me. It drove very slowly for a couple of blocks and I came to another stop. As I started to go into the intersection again, the vehicle started off very slowly even with the accelerator to the floor. As I proceeded it went a little faster but not much faster. My daughter informed me that this same thing happened to her earlier when she was driving the Jeep and she turned it off and she cut it off completely then restarted it and it ran fine. I proceeded to do the same thing(cutting it off completely and turning it back on) and it ran well again. When I took it to the dealership, they sad that they were unable to duplicate the same problem and can not fix what they can't find.
I purchased my car in July, 2012, it is now oct, 2013, and I have had numerous problems with the Jeep, for starters the lights and dash board lights keep flickering on an off by themselves, and now Jeep won't pick up speed at times and the engine light came on, I took it to the dealer and they stated that it was a shift module problem that would cost 997. Well I took it from the shop and a week later brought it back and they then stated that they would have to take the transmission apart and clean it because it might be debris that is on it, well later they call me to say that it was the transmission I need a new one and for that it will cost me 2900. . . . There was a recall on this same type of problem back in 2008, could it be that I purchased this vehicle and they never had this problem fixed???.
Car turned itself off, ignition switch problem, maybe software. Has stalled on many occasions. Has had software checked by dealer and there is no other fix, they say. Is this part of the ignition switch recall problem with ignition switch? thank you!.

Hello, my 2006 Jeep Commander started stalling out over a year ago and has stalled on me on and off various times at different speeds but usually at a higher rate of speed, which has been very scary. I have chosen not to drive the vehicle anymore and now it is sitting in my driveway and I am driving a 1991 Honda because I cannot afford to buy a new car at this time. I just paid this Jeep off and now I cannot drive the vehicle. The dealer fixed the one recall on the vehicle called the front control module and it ran fine for a couple of weeks and now once again the car stalled out while I was headed to a camping trip with my kids a couple months ago going 50 mph and almost caused an accident. I was almost hit by a semi and several cars were honking and trying to avoid my Jeep. I lose all power steering and there are no notifications that the car will stall so it is very scary and dangerous for me and my children. I am so upset that I cannot drive the car and feel safe. I have contacted Jeep and they have a recall for 2006 Jeep Commanders that covers up to January 2006 and my vehicle was made in March so they told me there is nothing they can do. The recall was for the pcm which my car has the same code on the diagnosis but now they are telling me to take it to the dealer and I have to pay for this. I really hope that this situation can be resolved by Jeep stepping up and taking care of this issue for the safety of people.
I was driving and when I eccelerated the car seemed very slugish and hesitant to switch gears. As I apporached the stop light and came to a stop I noticed the car stalled. So I turned it off and restarted it. This has happen twice now that the car has just stalled. I have now noticed that since this incident my car has been idling rough and has been vary slugish while driving, especialy up hills. I am worried for my safety that this will happen again while I am driving.
I was driving and had to stop behind another driver who was making a left hand turn. I was on a slight incline. When they turned I began to accelerate. This is when I encountered my problem. I had to push the accelerator to the floor. It was as if the car shifted into neutral. Thinking this was strange I looked on my dashboard to make sure the car was still in drive. What I found when I looked was that all the gears were highlighted. At this point the car still wouldn't go over 20-25mph. (I was on a 45mph road on a very busy Monday. ) I gently moved my gear shift and that put my gear back into drive. A few seconds later I look at my dashboard and all the gears were briefly highlighted and then it went back to just the drive gear highlighted. I took it in to an authorized Jeep dealer the next day and was told that I needed a new shifter module/bezel. I believe this is a safety hazard and something the Chrysler company should of known about and put a recall out on this vehicle. I called Chrysler and was only told that there are recalls out on Jeep Commanders for it slipping into neutral but that my vehicle was not part of said recall. Although the gear on my car shifted into neutral when I had it in drive. The recall also states that vehicles manufactured between certain dates should be considered for the recall. My car falls into those dates. I had to pay $829. 00 for a part and $209. 98 for labor and $14. 70 for shop supplies. This brought my total to $1,127. 44. I do not understand how a part could cost me this much? am I the only owner with this problem? I got the problem fixed and the vehicle runs fine now. I am wanting Chrysler to admit that this is a defect on their part and reimburse me for the total sum stated above.
