Failure Date: 06/10/2017

Vehicle completely shut down on freeway due to recall causing anxiety, fear of life and potential accident on major highway. The ignition switch on your vehicle may experience an unintended change in ignition switch position while driving. This may result in a loss of engine power, power steering assist, power brake assist or disable the airbag function. Disabling one or more of the vehicle's safety features could increase the risk of vehicle occupant injury during a crash and/or cause a crash without warning.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2015

I was coming to a stop and my car shut off on its own while in "drive". Over the past several months this has happened on several other occasions where my car just shuts off on its own while driving, usually while driving at a low speed under 15 mile/hr. On other occasions I have lost control over my power steering and the steering wheels locks up, again usually at a low speed. I know there is a recall on my vehicle because we received a letter in the mail but when we contacted our dealer (ansonia fitspatrick Jeep) we were told the part was not yet available and that we needed to wait until we received a other notice / letter when the part comes in. This is very concerning and unsafe!!!!.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2015

My wife and I were coming out of a parking lot in rowland heights turning right unto colima blvd. The car, a Jeep Commander 2007, shut off all of a sudden. This car has been recalled(p41) but because no parts are available it has not been fixed by Chrysler. This is not the first time this has happened but it was the first time with my wife in the car. It was a good thing there was no traffic at this time (about 4:00pm) I called the dealership we deal with and also sent a letter to the traffic safety administration in washington d. C. I was contacted by mr. Jim burke and we set up a time to meet March 31 at the Chrysler dealership in victorville. According to mr. Burke he is not associated with Chrysler. Mr. Burke inspected the car on the 31st of March. It also happened on the morning of March 31st about 100 yards from our house the car shut off again. This is about the fifth or sixth time this has happened . The first time through the fourth time it was always late in the evening usually on a Saturday. I'm really frustrated with this process. My wife is right why send out a recall notice if no part will be available? I'd like to get my car repaired so that we are not involved in an accident due to this recall by Chrysler.

7 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2014

This is the 4th time that the car has shut off while driving and cannot move the steering wheel to pull over to the side of the road. The big rig truck behind us almost crashed into the car due to the engine shutting off while we are traveling with the flow of traffic. With the engine shutting off, the steering wheel is locked making it impossible to get out of the way of other vehicles. The car eventually reduces speed down to a halt. I have to place the Jeep in park and restart the ignition. The truck driver was yelling profanities out the window, telling me to learn how to drive and showing obscene gestures while I have two children in the car with me. I am scared to drive this vehicle because I do not know when it will shut down on me again. The only advice I get from Chrysler is to not have any other keys on the ring and to not have my knee hit the ignition key while driving.

8 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

Driving to work at the normal speed, my vehicle just turned off in the middle of traffic, which resulted in the car behind me hitting me. I am deathly afraid to drive this car. When I went to Chrysler & called several times, I was told I was out of luck & couldn't be helped. I was even hung up on. I'm not sure what to do besides contacting the news & hiring an attorney, which isn't in my budget. Is there anyone that can help me?.

9 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2014

While I was driving the car automatically shut off and will not turn back on for a while. Other incidents where the ignition will nit work at all, the car can be completely off and the back window will automatically opened. While the car is running all the light begin to turn on and off in the car.

10 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2014

I was driving down the highway and check engine light dings and vehicle comes to a stop, I was able to drift off to the side of the road but steering was locked up. Engine completly shut off. After about 5 mins I was able to restart engine and now the check engine light bas and traction control lights are on.

11 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

In the summer of 2014, I was reversing and my 2007 Jeep Commander turned off twice. It has been happening more frequently since then. My Jeep turns off while driving up to 30 miles an hour, and while stopped at a light, and/or a stop sign. The check engine light sometimes turns on, but not always when Jeep turns off. Sometimes it makes a 'huffing puffing' noise like it's struggling to stay on (before it actually turns off). It always turns on right after, but I have noticed it makes a loud squeaky sound when it turns on after I crank it. That squeaky sound, sounds like the sound it makes when someone tries to crank on the vehicle after vehicle is already been on. The Chrysler recall center mailed me a recall p41 notice last summer/fall in 2014. I took it to the Chrysler Jeep dealership in mcallen, texas for recall p41 service at that time. I've taken my Jeep to several mechanics since then, but no one seems to find the problem. The servicemen at dealership said to keep checking in with them to see if they have the part. They said problem is not related to recall p41. . . And keep advising me of other possible problems. I've fixed all of the possible problems suggested, and yet the 'turning off' still continues! the service manager at dealership, and the Chrysler recall center people keep telling me that Chrysler has not made part available, and for me to remove any extra keys from the key ring, and to continue driving me Jeep until the part is available. Chrysler will then mail me notice of recall part availability. I've been dealing with this problem for over a year! it is very scary, especially when it happens unexpectedly in an unreliable vehicle!! I don't feel safe.

12 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

It has been happening since at least July 2014. Vehicle will stall without warning. Will accelerate with out being able to stop. Sometimes we are even unable to get it started for a few minutes. Even after taking everything off the key ring it is continuing to get worse.

13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

I received notification from Chrysler awhile back that a defect on my vehicle has been identified. It was a case opened in June, 2014 by NHTSA for pe14017. Chrysler said no solution had been identified at the time they sent the letter but the local distributor would remedy the defect without charge within a reasonable time. The local dealer has not heard anything from Chrysler. I don't know what "reasonable time" means but wanted to ask you how long you think I should need to wait before a solution to correct the problem which Chrysler says "may experience unintended change in ignition switch position while driving which may result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking assist increasing the risk of a crash and disabling one or more of the vehicle's safety features including the frontal airbags. " thank you.

14 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

Vehicle has turned off multiple times at highway speeds causing near fatal collisions, dash board would light up completely and blink on and off as if the key were turned off and on. We make sure that there is sufficient clearance from the key to our knees and we have never accidently hit the ignition. We have had this happen approx. 15-20 times over the last year and the most recent time last week with both our 8 and 9 year olds in the vehicle on the highway. We need some help on resolving this issue and we are afraid that we will have an accident if this continues to happen.

The contact stated that the failure occurred several times and received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) after the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

The approximate failure mileage was unknown.

17 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

The ignition switch position makes unintended position changes while driving. This has happened on several occasions and has resulted in two near-miss accidents. Additionally, on occasion, the switch won't allow the car to start, and all power is dead despite a new battery. We have been dealing with this issue for a long time. Received recall notice in sept 2014, but Chrysler contends that that part is still not available, and that the car is safe to drive. This car is not safe to drive! I have called Chrysler group recall assistance center at 1-800-853-1403 multiple times and have waited for an hour on a couple of occasions without a pick up. This is also not acceptable. Please help!.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

After taking the Jeep Commander in to a dealer ship to get recall NHTSA campaign number 13v175000 fixed the vehicle has been wanting to turn off at random. It has happened while in park or even driving the vehicle. The 1st time it happen, I was acccelerating while getting on the high way and I was going about 40mph and the engine lossed all power and it was hard to steer. It lasted about 4sec and then stopped. The next time it happen was going down the high way about 65mph with the cruise on and it did the same thing and the last time it did it the vehicle was parked. Eash time it happens it only last about 4-5 secs. It just started doing it right after the dealer ship reprogramed the ecm to fix the recall.

20 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

I am writing to express my concern regarding an engine problem with my 2007 Jeep Commander, that causes the engine to stall, and all power to shut down and the engine to completely shut off. While at first this problem was simply an inconvenience, I soon learned how dangerous this problem actually is. I was on a highway and I went to pass another car, mid-pass my engine stalled and I lost all power with another car coming at me head-on. Thankfully the other car was able to stop and we avoided a head-on collision at highway speed, but the outcome could have been very different. The stalling has been an ongoing issue with my Jeep now for at least two years, with no resolution to the problem in sight. I have followed all suggestions like not having a key chain and only using he key in my ignition with no change in the frequency of the stalling. It seems a bit ridiculous that there has been no solution to this very dangerous problem. A case was opened by Chrysler in January regarding my 2007 Jeep Commander stalling without warning. The stalling continues to be a very dangerous and unpredictable problem for me. In my last communication I was assured that my Jeep would be fixed when the part became available, I have heard nothing since January. Not only am I concerned about the safety of myself and others when I drive my car, I am also concerned about the additional stress this flaw in manufacturing is putting on the engine of my car. It’s extremely fortunate that no one has been seriously injured due to the stalling problem to date, but I fear it is just a matter of time until someone’s car stalls at the wrong moment and they are unable to avoid tragedy. I’m hoping someone can help we get resolution to this dangerous issue as Chrysler has done nothing so far.

21 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2012

Was driving to work going about 60 mph and motor just shuts off. Had to pull off to the side of the road and turn off the key and tried to restart engine. 23 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2012

While driving down the road the Jeep shut off, complete loss of power, brakes and steering then after a few seconds turned back on. This had happened 4 times within 10 mile. This is not the first time that this has happened. I had taken it to the dealership so they could plug it into their computer. The results were negative and could not find any problems. Searching online, there are several other Jeep owners that are having the same problem. There needs to be a recall on these vehicles before someone gets hurt or killed.

Slowing down at a traffic light and the vehicle stalled. Again coming close to causing a major accident because of so much traffic. , the vehicle would not start agin for about 30 minutes cause grid lock and chaos. All I could here was a clicking sound when trying to start it. I contacted the dealer and got no help.

30 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2010

While driving my 2007 Jeep Commander limited edition 4x4 at various speeds car stalls without warning. All power features including steering wheel lock and check engine light comes on. Forced to maneuver to shoulder if possible (dangerous) put the car in park and then re-start. Same problem has occurred approximately 50 times since 2010. Have sought information from dealer and independent mechanics and attempted to repair at my own expense to no avail. Mechanics have been unable to replicate the problem while on road tests, which is expected since the stalling is unpredictable. The most recent occurrence was 8/5/14 - complete engine stall while driving (approximately 40mpg), steering wheel and all other power features locked in the middle of traffic. Put the car in park then re-started.

31 Steering problem

07 Jeep Commander w/ < 30k miles, shuts off while driving. Various speeds, various gears, various gas levels, various terrains. Truck has done this +/- 5x's over the course of the last 7 mos. No indicator light, no warning. Results in complete loss of power steering & power brakes requiring the need to coast in neutral to safe location and ultimately pulling the emergency brake to come to complete stop. Trouble then getting Jeep into park for a restart. Jeep has been in dealer shop for each instance to no avail, dealer cannot solidify problem. 1st diagnosis was shift module; 2nd diagnosis was shift module 3rd diagnosis was upgrade to software for shift module; 4th diagnosis was low transmission fluid. 34 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2007

We were on our way out and on the road and the steering wheel did not want to move. It did not want to turn right or left. It would just go straight. We actually almost landed in the ditch as well as almost hitting a truck. This is a major safety defect. Our Jeep Commander is brand new and only has 700 or so miles on it. We had purchased it less than 3 months ago. So, our vehicle has been out of commission since Dec. 2nd, 2007. I did call our dealer from which we purchased it from, since they are located in wa and we live in ak. They are aware of the situation. I also called the Jeep corporation and they are aware as well. I did call our local Jeep dealer and scheduled an appt. Their earliest appt is Dec. 17th, 2007. This incident could have cost us our lives.
