2006 Jeep Commander idling up on its own and engine made a loud noise. The dealer informed the consumer, the noise was normal for a hemi engine. The consumer was then informed, the problem was the throttle. Also when it rained, the consumer discovered water on the driver's side floor. The dealer was unable to find a leak.

We had a very hard rain and when I went to my Jeep the driver side floor was full of water. I started my Jeep up and my radio speakers stopped working. Before I purchased the Jeep Chrysler had to fix a water problem because it was flooding the passenger side floor and they had to fix the speakers because the back speakers were not working. Now I'm having the same issues but now they want me to pay. Please help.

I've been having issues with my '08 Commander for several months now. The sunroof leaked and water got into the dashboard, shorting the radio out. Dealer fixed sunroof seal and radio. On the drive home from the dealer, dashboard lights started flashing. Returned to dealer the next day, but they could not locate a problem. Three days later, car would shut off while driving and all dashboard lights would flash. Returned to dealer, they were unable to "duplicate" issue. Tech from dealer drove car for 1 day and he could not find an issue. One week later, car smelled horrible of fuel and car would shut off while driving. Returned to dealer and dealer replaced O2 sensor. Picked up car and on my way home, lights flashed, car stalled and smelled worse of fuel. Immediately returned to dealer, dealer replaced a second O2 sensor. Picked up car, 5 miles from dealer, check engine light came on. Called dealer and he said to drive car until the engine "reset"(about 10 miles) or until light began flashing, then bring it in since they can not find a real problem. Issue seemed to resolve for a couple weeks of not driving car much, but then the dashboard lights began flashing again, car smelled of fuel and car seemed bogged down. Today, car barely started and was very bogged down. Attempted to drive, but check engine light came on and flashed repeatedly. Car would not go over 40mph, shook horribly and finally shut off. I am afraid to drive this car with my child inside. I am a disabled single mother and I need a dependable car and definitely not one thats going to keep costing me money. I have a warranty that I purchased with the car, but it seems to still cost an arm and a leg to get this car running for a few days before it chokes up again. This car has sucked up all my savings and still no resolution to the problem.
I think it was around April 20th, I would have to check the date for sure. . We were driving down the interstate doing about 70 mph and the veh started losing power. . It made a terrible noise , sounded if you were on the side of the highway and it was vibrating terrible. It has a terrible smell too it and lost total power and had to pull over. My husband got out and looked and there was oil pouring out of the rear end. The car would hardly move at all. We had it towed to the dealership and they advised the the rear differential went out. The Jeep had 62000 on it and looks and road like a brand new car till then. We had that repaired 750. 00 cost. Nowwwwwwww we have a terrible leak not sure where it is coming from, when it rains we get 3 inches of water in the drivers side floor board, it leaked so bad the wiring is shorting out now. The carpet is getting molded and has a bad smell too it. We can not find the leak what so ever and it is getting rather frustrating having to have your feet in 3 inches of water when trying to drive. The speakers on the left side if shorted out on the satellite radio but will work fine on cd's or am fm. The air condition now only works good on the drivers side and is warm on the passenger side.
Driver side floor has had approx 1-2 inches of water after raining on multiple occasions. Local Jeep dealer said the sunroof drain was clogged. This has never happened while driving, only when the vehicle is parked. It's pretty pricey to have these drains unclogged and from reading all the other complaints about this same problem on edmunds, it is a consistent service that needs done. I am very frustrated because this sounds like a defect on Chrysler's part, but nothing has been done about it. When this water floods my floor it stinks in the vehicle. I also notice flies and gnats. I am afraid of mold, dry rot and electrical issues. My radio is going out and I believe the water has something to do with this. I never had problems with the radio until this started. The screen is no longer clear, the gps doesn't work, the uconnect hands free doesn't work properly anymore and the radio randomly changes stations on its own.
Electrical dash board blinks while driving, driver's seat moves while driving, when it rains the driver's floor is soaked with water and passenger side floor is wet as well, vehicle jerks while driving. Indication lights pops on dashboard sporadically, radio and navigation doesn't work.
Out of the blue the whole radio/cd/navigation console went out! the radio still works, but only the preset stations and I can only control it from the steering wheel. Then I noticed that the air bag light(on instrument panel) is turning on and off and beeping each time. There have also been water issues coming from the sunroof, soaking the floor boards in mainly the passenger side but sometimes also the drivers side. This only happens when the vehicle is parked.
Faulty door panels and door handles on 2006 Jeep Commander , they break and crack easily there are hundreds of people on Jeep Commander with same issue.
Cracked and broken door panel behind the door handle, both front doors panels, 5js891d1ag.
Two interior door handles, one at driver position and one rear seat passenger side door, have broken and fail to open the door without great manipulation. I fear for my safety or my passengers safety if I/they should need to exit the vehicle quickly. The doors do not open easily at all!!.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart by turning the key back and starting the engine. The failure occurred on an intermittent basis. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who informed the contact that they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was contacted who offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000. The consumer also stated the driver's seat tilts backward on its own. The remote unlock and lock buttons only worked on occasion and finally water would enter the vehicle when it rained. Updated 03/09/11.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated when it rains the water leaked through the bars and the windows. The leak was in the driver and passenger side windows. The entire electrical system also failed including the speedometer and radio. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 68,048.
Inside doors failing all four are cracked the driver side passenger does not open from the inside. If in an accident they might all fail and then no one will be able to exit the car, if a fire happens or we just need to get out for other reason. We will need to open windows, to open door from outside, whch might not be possible if wrecked and windows fail. If replaced and defect is not fixed it dealers will not help and average price ias 450. 00 dollars per door. When we purchased the Jeep in 2008 we not informed of this problem. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled numerous times while driving 20 mph and the check engine light illuminated during the failures. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop, who stated that the failure was due to the pcm. An authorized dealer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 08v203000 (power train: automatic transmission: control module (tcm, pcm)). The contact also stated that water penetrated the front passenger door handle and soaked the floor. The windows would also not roll up or down. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current 70,000.
Drivers side and passenger side interior panel has cracked and fallen apart around the handle.
My 2006 Jeep Commander has had a number of defects. The most costly has been that it leaks when it rains or goes through a car wash. I have had the sunroof clean out and the problems "fixed" in September but it has begun leaking again. When the vehicle had 38,000 miles on it I had to have the bearings in the driverside front wheel replaced costing me over 300. 00 dollars. My mechanics informed me that the vehicle was to young to be having this part replaced. I'm just currently waiting for something else to go bad on my "young" vehicle.
I have owned my 2007 Jeep Commander for about ten months now. The problem I have is when my knee bumps the bottom of the ignition key (turning it to the left, & shutting the vehicle off) which is unusually located at the bottom portion of the console (I guess this vehicle wasn't meant for tall people). When this happens the vehicle immediately shuts off, causing the power steering to shut off as well. This has happened four times now. The last time it happened was Thursday, June 12, 2008 around 11:15 am. I was driving my 1 year old son to the babysitters house. My knee bumped the key as I was approaching a turn, shutting off the vehicle/power steering, so I kept going straight, and nearly crashed. Luckily, I slammed the brakes and stopped just in time. After this incident I realized how serious the problem really is. Although I have to drive it at the moment (backwards, so I can't afford to trade it in), I have become leery and uncomfortable with my Commander because of what could happen to my child, me, or someone else if (or rather when) this happens again. I am now constantly trying to stay aware of where my right knee is at all times. Instead of reporting this to my dealership (I know they can't do anything about design flaws). I have decided to go straight to the NHTSA. Please help!.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated when driving at various speeds during rainy weather, rain water would leak into the vehicle onto the dashboard and interior floor. The dealer drained the water from the vehicle drain yet the failure persisted. The contact confirmed the failure occurred since the date of purchase. There were no further repairs made to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 17,000 and the current mileage was 27,000.
2006 Jeep Commander the ignition key is located at knee height and perpendicular to the dash. I have accidentally turned off the car while driving at least three times. This occurs when moving the right knee side to side. Because the key is horizontally located it rotates with little force if striking the dangling keys with the knee. A proper design would be having the ignition on the steering column, or having a slight superior angle to the key ignition. This is easily reproduced on all Commander vehicles.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that water was entering the vehicle from an unknown source. The contact was traveling approximately 60 mph when she first discovered the failure. The vehicle was taken to a private repair shop but was not diagnosed for the failure. The contact notified the manufacturer however, no remedy or assistance was offered. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 38,000. The current mileage was 87,000.
Vehicle continued stalling while is driven a low rpm. More the 25 times. Vehicle was bought with 15, 200 miles. Vehicle has now 52, 300. Everytime is taken to service the problem was mention to the dealer technician but they can't find the problem. Nov 20, 2007 I scratched the left rear fender of the vehicle with a tree while backing up. The vehicle lost power vehicle rolled back and stopped. Resting on the side of the tree. Pictures were taken of the damages on the vehicle . Dealers technician states no problem with the vehicle. Second problem backup system. Assists the driver to move the vehicle safely, one sensor failed from the bumper mount. Two months dealer has not repair the vehicle yet. Need to replaced the entire bumper to repaired one sensor.
Sunroof leaking.
We have major leaks in both side rails right above the dash board. We noticed the leaks a couple of days after our car was delivered. It rains a lot in alaska, so basically our car leaks about everyday! we had taken our vehicle into two different dealers and one dealer said he could not find where the leak is coming from and the other dealer said to bring it back in the summer because it is frozen outside, since we took the vehicle in around October! I can't believe a car that is brand new has leaks! I am glad to see that another person has complained about the side rail leaks, I thought it was just my car! maybe it should be recalled. I have other complaints about the vehicle regarding the steering wheel, which I have already complained about. But, my car has been at the dealer for two weeks now and they still can't figure out the problem. They first told me it was the steering wheel pump. Now they are telling me it's the steering wheel rack.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the entire vehicle was flooded with water. The water appeared to have originated from the handrails located on both sides of the windshield. The water leaked into the side of the instrument panel and the speakers. The dealer replaced the amplifier in the rear of the vehicle due to the extensive water damage. The engine size, powertrain, and a valid VIN were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 7,368.
Sunroof and windshield has leak which caused water damage to my vehicle. I took my vehicle in with all the other defects that are now be discovered with this vehicle and the service people told me it was my fault for not cleaning the tubes near the sunroof. After servicing the Jeep the service department discovered the problem still existed. This seems to be an ongoing problem so I now hired an attorney who is very familiar with these problems and has settled numerous settlements for all these defects.
A new vehicle, the Jeep Commander, on a wet highway, is a major problem for anyone behind. Reason, horrible design results in more spray and mist kicked up than an eighteen wheeler. This horribly designed, unaerodynamic pile of junk is a major menace that turns a wet highway into a moving cloud and they will be the cause of a major pile-ups. All should be bought back and scrapped. Test one on a very wet asphalt highway and my complaint will be obvious to all. Ban this vehicle before it kills someone.
Purchased new 2006 limited model. Windshield leaks, causing water to stand in front floorboards. Returned to dealer twice for repair. Initially the windshield was re-sealed. Second fix was replacement of door gasket.
Water leak from front windshield which wets the a-frame inside as well as the carpets in the front. Along with this, there is a loud whistling noise that comes from the windshield at 50 mi or higher speed. This is dangerous since it seems there is a gap between the windshield and the frame. The water damage could be happening for months, while the Jeep was in the dealer lot too.
: the contact stated there was rust on the base of the front seat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who declared all Jeep Commanders rust in that manner and did not provide any solution to correct the problem. The manufacturer was contacted and no solution was provided. The weatherstrip on the right rear door did not fit properly and the trim around the radio did not fit as well. Updated 08/21/06.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that water was entering the vehicle from the driver side front roof, where the dome light and handle was located on top of each other. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times where they glued the area so that water would not come through and the sun roof was modified. The manufacturer was contacted who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 100 and the current mileage was 85,000.
Windshield isn't sealed properly which causes a loud whistling noise while driving. Dealer could not fix problem. Further more, the seal problem seems to make the windshield more sensitive to being damaged.
My 2006 Commander with 40,000 miles has had the following problems since it came off the lot. The vehicle stalls and I obviously lose power and steering but there are no error messages in the computer, the 4wd does not engage - the warning light for that comes on but there's no error message in the computer. The window's roll up and down incorrectly - the gasket on the exhaust manifold has been replaced and the kicker of all problems is when the vehicle goes through a minor puddle of water or the automatic car wash the steering wheel locks completely until the water is gone - try driving that in the rain - Jeep was finally able to duplicate that problem by putting a garden hose under the car and squirting water on the underside of the vehicle - this problem apparently cannot be fixed and they can't believe that no other Jeep owner's aren't throwing fits. So much for the lemon law - the steering problem wasn't taken seriously by the previous Jeep dealers -I went to a different dealer altogether however, it's too late.
