1 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2016

Problems after fueling: after filling my vehicle up, without fail, the engine stalls, shuts off, violently jerks and/or decreases speed and then returns to regular driving conditions. I have changed the gas cap, gas stations and octane levels, as well as the amount of gas consumed, all without any resolve. Although I never tip off the gas tank, I will fill the gas tank and I experience erratic behavior without fail. It does not matter if I sit at the gas pump or drive away immediately, the vehicle will enter a distressing routine of jolting, and turning off. This has become a safety issue at times, the unpredictable behavior has happened in traffic while crossing busy intersections, driving down the highway as well as leaving the pump. If the vehicle is not in motion it will shut off completely. This occurs whether I'm still at the pump preparing to drive off, stopping at a stop sign, or while waiting traffic light. The jerking erratic behavior occurs anytime the vehicle is in motion. It does not matter if I'm going 5mph or 60mph. It always occurs withing 3 miles of filling up the vehicle. Time is not the remedy but rather distance as the vehicle my experience erratic behavior multiple times. This issue started 3 years ago and continues today. Please investigate this growing problem among Jeep vehicles to avoid future major accidents or fatalities. Concerned Jeep Compass owner.
