2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2019

Brought my car in for a front end noise. Mechanic determined my front and rear crossmember especially the front were rotted out with holes. I received a letter from car company dated 2/15/2017 that car warranty was extended for ten years. The problem was not identified until 2019 I was told the warranty expired 12/2018. Car CO. Said they would not cover. I see many complaints regarding this issue. I would think it should have been a recall, quite a safety issue we are left to suck it up. I would like to bring this to light. I feel the company is getting away with a dangerous expensive oops.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2019

I can be at full speed my car would reduce speed or completely shut down in the middle of driving.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2019

I recently discovered when bringing my 2008 Jeep Compass to a mechanic that my entire subframe is completely rotted out. The subframe is so rotted out that he suggested getting it towed home because the wheel might completely fall off if I hit a pot hole hard enough. The body on my Jeep is nearly flawless and the engine only has 70,000 original miles. Is see on other sites there is a recall on all the Compass models leading up to the 2007 model due to the subframe rotting out. I have also seen this is a common problem many customers have had with the 2008 model leaving the vehicle completely worthless being that it's totalled. How is it possible for the subframe to be completely rotted out but my actual frame is completely fine? I'd really like some answers.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2019

The subframe is rotting out to the point it's dangerous to drive.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2018

I was driving along. Hit my brakes. And then my driver front wheel screeched and went into the wheel well. After I had it towed to a shop they said it was a rotted out sub frame. If this would have happened going highway speeds I would have wrecked and possibly not be alive now. I was luckily on a back road so there was not any injuries.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2018

Severe noise and frame rusted out!.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2017

Front sub frame that holds control arms rotted right out could lose front tire.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2016

Front sub frame rotted thru front end of car fell apart. No warning. Driving thru parking lot, thank god not on highway. Should not have rotted like that on 9 year old car someone could've been killed. Called Jeep they refuse to pay for new subframe even though they cover 2007 subframes rotting. There should be a recall before people get killed. Costing us $1800. 00, could've been much worse. Disgusted.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2016

I took my vehicle to the mechanic for work and was told that my sub frame needed to be replace. I have only owned the vehicle for 4 years and only have 110,000 miles on it . Have not had a failure at this time but seeing that I'm near the mileage that others seam to have had the failure it worries me.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2016

So this among other issues start late last year with our 2008 Compass. Was sitting at stop light and the vehicle just stalled out. Jeep started right up and was fine the rest of the day. My wife drives it more then I do and she says it stutters quite frequently and often tries to stall out. Most recently, it stalled out dropping the kids off in the drop off line. This time it took 1-2 minutes to re start. No engine light, no warning, nothing. Took it to a Jeep dealership that day for them to take it a look at it. But of course like many consumers on here and other sites, they cannot find the issue. They drove my Jeep frequently for 2 days and still they cannot figure the problem. So like many others, we are stuck with a vehicle that has issues that do not show themselves. I have sent this issue to my local tv station to may be help investigate why there is no recall for this issue as its a safety concern. Clearly this is an issue as there are a lot of the same complaints. What will it take for someone to get hurt or die before they send out a recall? so we are forced to look into a new vehicle (not a Jeep Compass) because we don't feel safe driving this vehicle anymore. It should not be that way. Just figured I would share my experience along with others. Word of advice, believe the ratings for Jeep Compass and stay clear of purchasing them. -jb-.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2015

After driving 311 miles form ocean city MD, we stopped for a rest at 179 n plaza access rd, somerset, PA 15501. After an estimated 30 minute break, we returned to the Jeep filled with smoke. Upon getting my family to safety, clearing the driver's around the Jeep, calling 9-11, and pulling our luggage out of the Jeep, I determined the rear carpet under neath the rear compartment was on fire. I removed it and extinguished it. What was found at my local garage was a corroded hole on top of the muffler (which can only be diagnosed by reaching in and over the muffler) was venting exhaust and was so hot it caused the rear frame to reach a temperature that ignited the carpet around the spare tire. There are visible burn marks in the rear as well. Thankfully this did not heat the gas tank to the point of ignition. My Jeep does not have a heat shield between the frame and the muffler. My insurance company will not repair the muffler as they say it a defect from the manufacture. I am concerned for other Jeep Compass owners or Jeeps in general that have no heat shield and could have this type of corrosion.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2015

I own a 2008 Jeep Compass and on 07/25/2015 the vehicle failed nys inspection because the engine craddle was rusted out. I learned that only 2007 were covered for repair so I was forced to purchase a new one. I bought one on ebay and replaced it myself. The vehicle passed inspection and passed in 2016 and 2017. On 02/15/17 I received a letter from fca us llc customer center saying that 2008-2012 model are now covered and they will make a reimbursement. I contacted ebay and paypal and they only hold records for 18 months and my back and credits cards only for 48 months. I could not find the proof of payment at home. I was able to find the cost of an oem for $507. 00 I sentl all of the paperwork and inspection to fca and they refused to reimburse me. I am only asking for Chrysler to pay for the part and not my labor. I know that the labor is about $1,500. 00 to replace the engine craddle. If the craddle was not paid and replace the vehicle would never passed inspection for the last two years.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2015

I took my vehicle in for state inspection and a "creaking" type noise. It was found to have the k frame rusted through therefore failing state inspection. I was advised that this is the same body type (platform) used in the 2007 Dodge caliber and the same part number. The 2007 Dodge caliber was recalled due to this part failure which could cause the engine and other components to fall out of the car. It is obvious that Chrysler knows about the issue as they recalled the 2007 caliber but unless forced is not taking care of this problem in other vehicles made using the same platform and parts. When the car was under warranty only 2 years less than 25000 miles I had to have a tie rod replaced. I was also advised by the service manager that "these vehicles are known for this issue".

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

I took my 2008 Jeep Compass in for service and the technicians found through rust in the engine cradle, control arms, and tie rods. I had to have these components replaced at a cost of $2900. This car is lightly used, stored in a garage and only has 115532 miles. This is clearly a manufacturer / design defect to have major structural components through on a car that is only 7 years old. I have photographs of the effected parts that I would be happy to submit as evidence.
