1 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2021

I bought this vehicle in Nov of 2021 took it to local mechanic who quoted me 1000 to fix it completely so I did a little at a time the suspension control arms and rockers completely bad! now the vehicle only has130000 miles on it and the cvt worst transmission ever is going out which is 5000 to fix I can’t believe there is no recall knowing these vehicles have and are know for bad transmissions so now I am not only out a vehicle I am out the money I spent on buying this vehicle not to mention what I have spent to fix it!.

2 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2020

My subframe has completely rotted out. My local dealer informed me it is out of warranty. I see thousands of people have the same issue which is why you extended the warranty but nobody informed us about it! the design of this model is flawed; the parts are inferior for a snowbelt state and to top it off the exhaust from the air conditioner leaks directly on the front subframe. 3 separate mechanics have told me this should not have happened; I should not have to pay for parts you know are no good. Please tell me you are going to stand behind your products! we own a company and have several Jeep vehicles but if this is not fixed we will be trading them all in and will move to another vendor who will stand behind their products and wants to keep their customers safe! even the local dealer said this was ridiculous and that you should be doing a recall on this!.

3 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2019

Rear subframe rusted to the point of needing replaced. Car has only 97000 miles on it. There is no reason that the car should be this rusted, there needs to be a recall on the rear subframes, and add additional support to ensure the safety of the vehicle.

4 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2018

While in motion, a clunking noise was heard in rear end. Independent garage (zeller auto center,616 main st. , torrinton, CT. 06790, 860-489-0204) diagnosed a rusted and rotted rear subframe. Internet check revealed other owners of this model experienced the same probem. Jeep issued an extended warrantee for 10 years from production date. No notice to vehicle owners! contacted Jeep (case #57633304) and they advised that extended warrantee for this car expired on 12/28/17 and they would not make an extension. They stated that a recall was not needed when an extended warrantee was issued. I think a recall is needed so that other owners of this vehicle can be warned of the rusting subframe problem before an accident and injuries occur.

5 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

In August 2018, I was informed by a reputable auto repair shop that another auto repair shop that did work on my vehicle less than a month prior, "turned off" the check engine light. I went back to that mechanic and they advised that it is impossible to do so, because its all in one panel. On 11/11/18, all exterior lights on the vehicle stopped working. I went to auto zone to get replacement bulbs, but they advised that this was an electrical problem and I should go to a mechanic. I have already spent a few thousand dollars on a 2008 Jeep Compass including suspension work and other maintenance. I was just informed on 11/15/18 that the tipm is out causing the all exterior lights to not work and the check engine light. The mechanic advised that this is a dealer only problem and could cost me up to $2000. Researching this issue I find that there was a class action law suit against Chrysler in 2015. My vehicle was not included and should have been. In fact, all research shows that there are many complaints for the 2008 Jeep Compass, however this vehicle has not been included in all lawsuits. I was not contacted by anyone. This is a safety issue and now the vehicle cannot be driven until the safety issue has been addressed.

6 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while in for maintenance the independent mechanic discovered 2 holes in the rear cross members. The contact was informed that the holes were caused by severe rusting and corrosion and the cross members needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer vision Dodge(43920 parnonarad trial, rochester NY. ) were both notified but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 82,000. Jft.

7 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2018

Severe noise and frame rusted out!.

The wheels detached from the vehicle after it stalled. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was towed the tow to the contacts residence however prior to it being towed the tow truck technician informed the contact the frame separated from the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. Kh.

9 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2018

Takata recall. I have a 2008 Jeep Compass, purchased vehicle at the end of August 2017. I was just form about a month ago that my sub frame was rotted out and had a warranty on it from my local mechanic. I have then contact several Jeep dealerships about this recall, have continued to tell me that this recall has expired and that I will not be able to get my Jeep fixed. I was never informed by phone call email or anything by mail about this recall or I would have taken the opportunity to get this problem solved .

10 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2017

Received the February 15, 2017 letter about the warranty extended to 10 years/ unlimited miles on the front and rear crossmembers. At the time of the letter the condition mentioned had not been experienced. The condition did present itself and the vehicle was taken in for inspection. Both the front and rear were recommended be replaced however was informed the warranty period is from the build date which was in October 2007 therefor missing the warranty period by a month. If the letter stated the date of manufacture an inspection could have been scheduled before it expired.

11 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

The gas tank will not take gas. I had the catalyt. Coverter fixed. The valve inside the gas tank does not work properly, and my research online shows this is a common problem with Jeep Compasses.

12 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2016

I was putting a set of rear brake pads on the vechicle when I noticed that the rear crossmember is rotted out. I did some research and found out this is a known problem with these vechicle. Chrysler has to promised to fix the 2007 models, when the 2007, 2008, and 2009 all suffer from the same problem. I have to pay$1500. 00 out of my pocket for an 8 year old vechicle that should not be this rusted out.

13 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2016

I took my car to a licensed auto repair shop due to a rattle come to find out that the subframe is rusted. The car only has 84000 miles on it and now I dont feel safe. Since purchasing it I have had to put a water pump, power steering pump on new bearings in the front and. Front suspension. The car has been to the dealer for regular maintenance oil changes and such. The car was built in 12/ 2007 . I noticed a recall on 2007 Jeep Compass due to bad steel so I believe my 2008 Compass should be included in the recall due to faulty parts.

14 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2016

The crossmember (subframe) is rotting away and when this part fails a serious crash may result. Jeep issued a bulletin (23-012-14) for 2007 Compass for this same problem authorizing an extension to warranty for 10 years and if found to repair without cost to owner. Just call Jeep about my 2008 Compass and they told me since original factory warranty has experied I would be 100% responsible for repair cost. First off, the crossmember should not rot away after onlky 8 yrs, second since they acknowledge 2007 had a problem , my 2008 should be included. Most importantly, since the failure of this part could result in lack of control and may cause a crash resulting in injury or death there should be a recall for all Jeeps to inspect and replace any parts showing severe rust and rotting.

15 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2016

Recently purchased a 2008 Jeep Compass from a private owner in ohio. We went for inspection as required in pennsylvania where we live. The Jeep failed because the cross member frame was almost completely rusted out. The service manager at the dealership said this is a defect in how the Jeep was manufactured. The placement of the air conditioner with the constant dripping and condensation plus the use of road salt in ohio caused the frame to corrode. Chrysler is aware of the problem and has recalled 2007 and older Jeeps but is not honoring the extended warranty on the 2008 and newer models even though they know there is a huge problem in the design. The repairs are going to cost over 1500. 00 dollars with no guarantee it wont happen again just by using the air conditioner. How many people have to complain or something bad happens before Chrysler will do something about the problem? every Jeep no matter what year should be covered under the recall.

16 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2016

Was under our 2008 Compass while changing the serpentine belt and notice severe rust rot on the subframe. Can actually push my fingers through it. I see that the 2005 through 2007 models have a recall on the subframe but not the 2008 model even though they have the same problems.

17 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2016

I have had my 2008 Jeep Compass for approximately 14 months, and just recently I thought I had a tie rod that needed to be replaced. There was a very loud knocking sound coming from the front drivers side and the car pulled hard to the left. I took it to be inspected and as soon as the mechanic got it up on the lift he immediately set it back down. The front subframe is so badly rusted through he was afraid that the transmission or engine would fall through. I am currently out of a car as the mechanic deemed it extremely unsafe to drive and would not let me drive the car back home. There is currently a recall for the subframe on the 2007 model year, my car was manufactured in 12/2007 so I have reason to believe that my car was made with parts affected in the recall of the 2007 model year.

18 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2016

During my annual inspection it was found that both my front and rear cross frame members were so severely rusted that it to dangerous to drive till they are replaced. I call the dealer who the Jeep was bought from and was told that only the 2007 models have an extended frame protection warrantee that covers this problem. My Jeep was built on 8/14/07 less than three weeks after Jeeps cutoff date. After investigating I found that there are several hundred cases like mine that Jeep refuses to cover. The frame should not be failing this fast and as bad. I feel there is a material design flaw that Jeep is trying to cover. More people need to be aware of the problem. My Jeep has no visual rust it looks brand new. Unless the owner or mechanic crawls underneath this can go un noticed until there is a major failure.

19 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2015

The k frame is rusted to the point that the vehicle's steering wheel shakes when going around a curve. Our mechanic was able to stabilize this, but states the frame is so rusted that he can push a screwdriver through with very little effort. It needs replaced. We contacted our dealer, and were told that only the 2007 models are covered by a safety recall.

20 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Compass 4x4. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle jerked to the right. Sparks and flames appeared from the rear of the vehicle. The flames extinguished themselves and the contact parked the vehicle at her residence. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake assembly, four wheel drive, and bearing seized. The front axle failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained inoperable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 171,000.

21 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2015

2008 Jeep Compass engine cradle failed nys inspection due to premature rusting. 2007 model year was extended warranty for 10 years on engine cradle because of premature rusting. My Jeep was manufactured in March of 2008. I am sure the engine cradle part was manufactured in 2007 and placed into the 2008 because no replacement or update was made to the part between 2007 and 2008. Jeep refused to cover the 2008 which I had to pay for repair. This part if not repaired and during an accident will cause serious structural damage to the vehicle which could cause serious injury or death to the occupants in the vehicle. I have taken photos and the failed nys inspection notice. I have also made a copy of this report for my records.

22 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2015

I took my vehicle in for state inspection and a "creaking" type noise. It was found to have the k frame rusted through therefore failing state inspection. I was advised that this is the same body type (platform) used in the 2007 Dodge caliber and the same part number. The 2007 Dodge caliber was recalled due to this part failure which could cause the engine and other components to fall out of the car. It is obvious that Chrysler knows about the issue as they recalled the 2007 caliber but unless forced is not taking care of this problem in other vehicles made using the same platform and parts. When the car was under warranty only 2 years less than 25000 miles I had to have a tie rod replaced. I was also advised by the service manager that "these vehicles are known for this issue".

23 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

Stopped for an oil change, was told that the sub frame was very rusted, mechanic suggested I call Chrysler,he said this shouldn"t be that rusted. Said that the 2007 models were being fixed by Chrysler under the warranty. When I called Chrysler the checked the VIN # and said it wasn't on the list. They didn't really have an answer for me. This is an expensive repair that I can't afford. Sus.

24 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

When the car pulls up to a stop light the entire vehicle shakes, and the idle drops. It drops from an normal idle 500-600 to below 500. Then shakes like a tractor.

25 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2012

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while taking her vehicle on a normal services check the mechanic stated that he needed to replace the front suspensions. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and the current mileage was 53,850. Jp.
