Failure Date: 12/16/2025

While driving, my parking break will turn on and halt the car. It usually is around when there is an issue with my auto start/stop.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2025

The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the abs and traction control warning lights illuminated, and the steering wheel and the front passenger’s side of the vehicle were shaking and vibrating abnormally. The contact stopped the vehicle to inspect it and became aware that the front passenger’s side wheel was extremely hot to the touch. The contact deactivated the traction control light, and the failure was temporarily corrected before recurring. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v301000 (power train). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 61,000.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2025

When driving my Jeep Compass, there have been numerous instances of the vehicle stalling out when slowing down or stopping at a light/stop sign. This has happened on busy roads, at busy intersections, and on country roads. When it happens, I cannot control any aspect of the vehicle; the breaks no longer work, I cannot turn the wheel, I cannot change gears or easily put it into park, and it takes multiple attempts to turn it off and back on. There are no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the incidents occurring, which started on 4/22/2025. Today, 4/29/2025, I checked my oil level and found that it was extremely low, although it should not be and I'm not yet due for an oil change. The Jeep Compass is going through more oil than usual and there is no message or notification showing at any time. I believe that this is the cause of the issues, and makes it extremely unsafe for myself, my passenger and other drivers/vehicles as it has happened on the highway and at intersections, where it could easily result in a serious accident.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2024

The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the abs, traction control, and other unknown warning lights illuminated. On another occasion, while driving at approximately 15 mph, the tires locked up and unlocked. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the pcu sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired, and the vehicle was towed back to the residence. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 158,000.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2023

2017 Jeep Compass has been having an issue with either the start-stop mechanism or the brakes. I was at a single lane red light. The engine went through the start-stop sequence, but when the light turned green and I released the brake, the car struggled to come to life at all and began to stall out. I had to wiggle the steering wheel and shift the gears to multiple places before returning it to drive and thankfully being able to keep moving. I turned the feature off in my car to prevent it from having any further issues while I just made it to work and back home. When I got to the next light and stepped on the brake, I heard a sound and when I looked down and noticed that the parking brake had engaged on its own. Fortunately I was near the dealership, but I was terrified that I was not going to make it there even. After keeping it over night and test driving it, they found nothing wrong with the vehicle at all. This is not the first time this has happened and we took the Jeep to the dealership only to be told that there was nothing they could find wrong with it. I have found several other complaints by other people saying the same exact thing. They are having this issue and when they take it to their service center, they are being told it is fine. This is not fine, and the fact that there has been absolutely nothing done about this simply because there hasn't been any evidence is ridiculous. This is truly unacceptable and I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. Period. There is something seriously wrong with it that no mechanics seem to be able to pinpoint whatever the issue is.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2023

While driving down the road, all doors closed, and with the lift gate closed the Jeep Compass' emergency parking break is engaging at random. Shortly before it does this the vehicle loses ability to accelerate. A quick google search has yielded many hits on many Jeep Compass and Jeep cherokee owners from years ranging from 2014 to 2020 having the same problem and Jeep refusing to acknowledge or fix the issue. This is a serious safety concern that is going to get people killed.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2021

I could not start my Jeep Friday morning by pushing ignition button. The dashboard and lights all came on but the Jeep wouldn't turn over. Yes, my foot was on the brakes, tank has gas, door was closed. After 3 failed attempts I got out of the car and tried starting Jeep with my key fob, no luck. Looked inside dash and it read auto start disabled. I tried turning off Jeep since the dashboard and lights were still on and no luck, they stayed on. My neighbor drove me to my orthopedic surgeon appt. When we returned, the Jeep was still on and my family showed up trying the following: change batteries to key fob. Checked cables and car battery. After those things the dashboard read "put car in park" my car of course was in park. I couldn't get it out of park since it never started!!! I bought at a dealership in mobile al when I lived in biloxi. Can't take it back to that dealership until after hip surgery here in florida's va. Please advise. Thank you, semper fi.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2020

While pulling off from a stop, the electronic parking brake turns on by itself. This has occurred multiple times, typically on flat city street at a red light or stop sign. The only way to get the car to drive is to restart the engine, but this sometimes takes a few times to start.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2020

The start/stop feature causes my car to stall. The emergency brake would automatically get enabled and I basically can't get my car to move until I put my car in park, disable to the emergency brake and turn my car on and off. This feature is such an inconvenience due to the chance of stalling at every stop light/intersection. This increases the chances of getting rear ended. In addition, today my front collision warning + brakes got activated while I was in motion without anything in front of me. Again, another possibility of getting rear ended.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2019

I came down a hill in my neighborhood, street then became level and I came to stop sign, I stopped and my engine died and my emergency brake came on. I had to remove foot from brake, put back on brake, restart engine and then I could disengage emergency brake. Dealer is telling me this because it was low on oil. But I wasn't even due for a few hundred miles for an oil change.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2019

Takara recall. I woke up in the am to go to meet my friend, stated Jeep, it was running funny. So I put in reverse and pukked out of driveway, got to a stop sign, Jeep would not go, no gas or just like it was running out of gas. Parking brake went on had to shut it off and start it again. Than pulled on to hywy 65 and it like stalled, no gas power att all, steering was hard ,could not turn the wheel. And check engine lite went on,! and checked the oil because that keeps going on to. (just got an oil change)had too put in 2 quarts of oil. It is going somewhere? if there was alot of traffic I would have been killed. There are days my radio has a mind of it's own? it will just change channels or freeze up. My passenger window has a mind of it own somedays it will role downbeat ok , next day or hours it wont work again? all thede malfuntions makes my anxiety off the charts. It is sad when it is your vehicle and your scared to drive it. I have 4 recalls and no one told me ,I had to look them up to get them. That is horrible peoples lives are in danger! I hope that someone else doesnt have to be scared to dive there Jeep. Like me.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2019

My daughter purchased a brand new 2017 Jeep Compass from papas Dodge in new britain, CT. The stop/start feature on this vehicle intermittently fails. When this occurs the vehicle is in motion and the engine stalls causing loss of steering and brakes. The dealer apparently can not emulate the problem but they do not drive it on a daily basis. My daughter is terrified to drive this car and was almost in an accident as a result. Also, this vehicle has excessive oil consumption. Have to add 1 1/2 quart between oil changes.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2019

The ess system activated when I stopped for a red light. When the light changed and I let go the break, the engine sputtered and the emergency break turned itself on, the wheel became very stiff and the breaks became very hard to press, cause me to roll forward when I tried stopping. The only way I could regain full control was to restart the car while I was in the middle of an intersection.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2017 Jeep Compass. While driving at an unknown speed, the brakes did not engage and the brake-on warning indicator illuminated. Also, when the vehicle was in park, it rolled away and did not stop with the emergency brake being applied. The vehicle was taken to susanville auto center (530-257-5092, located at 704-485 richmond rd e, susanville, CA 96130) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 16,500.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2018

I was on hwy going speed limit and the car in front stopped really fast and I put on my brakes and the engine got more power like the gas paddle was stuck I could not stop I had to go down the shoulder about a mile before the truck would stop and I was pushing down on the brake the whole time.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2018

The brakes on the Compass are very sensitive. While driving or from a cold start, applying the brakes at slow speeds will cause the vehicle to lurch to an almost emergency stop. I own 4 vehicles and none of the other cars have brakes as touchy as these. My family refuses to drive the Compass because of the brake issue. The dealer tells me there is no recall or TSB on this issue.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2018

02/05/2018. . . . . . Bought the vehicle November 2017. Twice already while driving on the highway through rush hour traffic the dash display started flashing erratically and the car lost all power, a total shut down. No radio, no dash, no brakes, no steering. Luckily traffic was moving each time. After approximately a city block the car restarts. Dealer tested the car and could not replicate the problem after driving it 20 miles with a computer connected. I feel this can be life threatening and should be investigated before the inevitable happens. I have 2 small children and my wife with me most of the time. They recommend driving it to see if it happens again. I'm no longer comfortable driving this vehicle.
