My 2010 Jeep Compass was taken in for an inspection today. It failed for lower front subframe being totally rusted out. This is unacceptable for a 10 year old vehicle and very unsafe!.

I had my Jeep in for regular service & it was discovered to have a rusted subframe. It was suggested to take it to the dealer. I made the appointment. It was evaluated & determined that my VIN was not included in the extended warranty, even though it is the same issue with prematurely rusting. I contacted Jeep customer care on two occasions, but they will not help. The cost to replace the subframe is over $1,300. It is a safety issue & if not repaired will continue to corrode & diminish the handling of my Jeep as well as the structural support.

I got a recall for a rusted sub frame, front and back in which one has a hole from rust. I take it to courtesys in altoona, PA. The guy earnie tellsme there will be parts surrounding the subframe not included with the recall that must be paid for out of pocket. I think everything to fix my car should be covered. They saw a woman coming! pisses me off to no end.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Jeep Compass. While driving at any speed, the engine rattled and the steering shook. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the subframe was rusted and rotted out. The contact called tri-city Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram at 800-491-6295 (located at 189 rte 108, somersworth, nh 03878) and scheduled an appointment. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that nothing could be done to assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
Rusted subframe. Recalled in some states considered salt belt states but not nebraska, why not? this is horrible. Nothing else is so rusty it is crumbling like the subframe.
2 weeks ago purchased a 2007 Jeep Compass. Some rattling under neath when driving so took it to a mechanic. They had it hoisted up and found a minor issue. But the mechanic pointed out the front crossmember/subframe was rusted out. He said it needs to be replaced because it is a serious safety issue. Looked online and this is a common problem with Jeep Compass and patriots from 2007 and on. I was quoted $1600 for replacement. I called Chrysler/Jeep headquarters and said they were aware of the issue and had an extended warranty but my vehicle is not covered!!!!! I told them it should be covered no matter what because they used cheap and weak steel which corrodes faster in northern climates due to salt use on roads and it is a huge safety issue!. The engine could fall out, the suspension could give out while driving and cause an accident. They kept repeating "past extended warranty". My 1997 Jeep grand cherokee just died 2 weeks ago and I never had frame issues with it. I loved my grand cherokee, it was well built and lasted for 21 years! I am so disappointed with Chrysler Jeep right now. They went from building quality products to cheap and expensive. They kept repeating "past warranty".
Sub frame rusted out making the car not safe to drive and it would cost $1700 for repair. No notice was sent out to owners; only mechanics. No public announcement of problem. Car was driven by my 82 year old mother in law. I am her son in law and I was driving her car to take her to an appointment; and suddenly it was difficult to handle, going to the right. I took it to my mechanic, and was told the car was not safe to drive. Sub frame rust. My mechanic knew about the problem from Jeep, but researching it online confirmed what he told me. Jeep knew of the problem and extended the warranty but did not recall the car; just sent notifications to mechanics, not the owners. My mother in law had the car inspected in July 2018 by her mechanic. VIN number indicated extended warranty on frame expired sept 2018. Problem happened in Dec. 2018. I confirmed all the above with local Jeep dealership. We approached my mother in laws mechanic and he admitted knowing of the problem, but apparently missed it in inspection or chose not to tell her. The car was well cared for. Oil changes etc. . . 79,000 miles near perfect body and now I'm told it's junk--and only worth $200! I called Jeep corp office 877-426-5337 to make a plea to get the car repaired so my mother in law could resell. Living in a government assisted senior apartment, she thought her car was an asset or investment she could someday rely on for a little extra; but not its been reduced to a couple hundred dollars. Not to mention--she could have been driving and the car could have fallen apart and she could have hurt herself and others. The car should have been recalled.

Tried to get inspected and refused dealer said subframe is rusted and rear-crossmember rusted , dealer smail said. Not covered under extended warrenty !! so my question is why would my jerp frame be rusted when it's a 2011 !!.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the rear subframe assembly was rusted, which caused the rear wheels to bend. The contact called progressive Chevrolet at 330-879-3697 (located at 8000 hills and dales rd NW, massillon, OH 44646) and was informed that there was no warranty. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that nothing could be done. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Compass. While the vehicle was being inspected, the contact was informed that the subframe was rusted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the subframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
Brought my vehicle in for what I thought was a bad ball joint on the front driver's side. I was told my subframe is completely rusted out in that spot. It's so bad that the mechanic isn't sure he can actually fix it. I found out that this is so common that Chrysler extended warranties for everyone, but didn't offer a recall. Not only that, but they only offered this for a set time of 120 months. You would think they would have notified people of this so they could have it repaired. Instead, those of us who happen to have an incident after the time frame are now out of luck and out of a lot of money to (hopefully) repair the problem. Disappointing to say the very least.
I've owned a 2010 Jeep Compass for two years now. I use it as a work vehicle. Recently it started making a very rough sounding noise going down the road. It would be deep and disgruntled and then high pitched almost whistling. I took it to a mechanic and they said the front subframe is rusted so bad it's unsafe to drive. So I started looking into the issue online and there are dozens and dozens of other Jeep owners complaining about the same issue with their Jeeps. And to make it all worse Jeep seems to want to do nothing about it. It's unsafe and it's going to get someone severely hurt or killed.
The rear end was making a clunking noise. Took it into a mechanic who informed me the rear frame was rusted through and was close to breaking. He had to secure the rear end to the frame with ratchet straps to allow me to drive it to a mechanic who could fix it. Only one bolt secured the rear end to the frame it was so damaged. Had it broken off while I was driving, I probably would have been severely injured if not killed.
Severe noise and frame rusted out!.
I experienced a tire blowout on I-70 while traveling at 60mph. Fortunately, no cars were around at the time or it could have killed me or caused serious harm to my car or another. I have been struggling with tire issues for some time, but they could not figure out why. I have had a previous blowout as a result of the inside edges of the tires wearing out too quickly. After having my car towed to a tire shop during this incident, they informed me that the rear subframe is rusted through and causing the tires to wear on the inside edges. They stated the frame will need to be repaired or replaced before an alignment can even be made. They recommended I get it repaired as soon as possible since it is unsafe. . They also told me to check with Jeep on recalls. I have called Jeep three times now. They stated they were aware of an issue and they had extended a warranty on it but I was out of that warranty which expired last year. They originally said that it is possible they would fix it out of warranty, but I would need to get an appointment and follow up with them. I called them back after the local shop refused to help me. They stated that I had to have a diagnostic test done. I told them I was unhappy with this since I didn't feel I should have to pay for this and drive an unsafe car to the dealership which is not close to me. They then informed me that they are actually not going to help me at all because the warranty is expired. This is a huge safety issue and I have found dozens of complaints online. Please tell me why this is not a recall. I could have easily been killed by this issue. I have had near missed from blowouts twice now, which I now know were a result of this. Furthermore, this is a very expensive repair and buyers djoukd be made aware before purchase. This should be a recall with all expenses covered. I am really upset that it is not.
This has been a known problem a lot ( when I googled it ). This is 100% going to get someone hurt or multiple hurt !!! the front cross member and front sub frame is totally rusted out to the the point of affecting ( steering and stability ) !!! what are you guys waiting for ???????? someone is going to get hurt with this serious safety issue !!!!!!!!!!!.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Compass. While driving approximately 5 mph, another vehicle crashed into the front driver's side of the contact's vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. There were no warning indicators illuminated. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the subframe and alignment needed to be repaired. The mechanic refused to service the vehicle because the frame was badly rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer informed the contact that an inspector would be sent out. The contact called ryan auto mall (Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram) at (763) 682-2424 (1000 highway 55 east, buffalo, mn 55313) where an appointment was scheduled for an inspection. The approximate failure mileage was 134,000.
I have had this Jeep for little over a year and have had to replace the fuel pump, the drive chain, front control arms and now I am told that the subframe is rusted and apparently cracked as it makes awfully load noises in the back. I have contacted a Jeep dealer to ck on the replacement of the subframe. I agree, do not buy a Jeep.
Vehicle started making a thumping noise in rear end and started to get worse. It also had a high pitch whining noise coming from the rear end. I had just replaced the rear barring so I didn't think it was those that had started to go bad within 3 months of replacing them. I took it to get looked at and the mechanic told me the whole rear end would have to be replaced before it snapped in half while driving down the road. The cradle arms and everything that was attached to it was rusted, pitted and crumbling in his hands. The frame was rusted completely through. He told me I was lucky I didn't hit a pot hole because that is about all it would have taken to break it. The hubs and barrings were also ruined and needed to be replaced after installing them less than a year ago.

I took my wifes 2010 Jeep Compass to the garage for inspection and the mechanic told me that the front subframe is rusted through so badly that he can fit his fist through one of the holes. I contacted Jeep multiple times and they refuse to talk to me about this safety issue. The vehicle is only 7 years old, complete rusting through should not be happening.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Compass. While driving various speeds over bumps in the road, a banging noise was present coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who discovered that the front subframe was rusted and corroded. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,300.
The contact filed a complaint for the vehicle owner of a 2007 Jeep Compass. The contact, a mechanic, noticed that the front subframe was completely rusted and corroded and could fracture. The mechanic removed the rusted front subframe. The mechanic contacted a local dealer to have the vehicle owner schedule a repair. The dealer had a high call volume and the contact was unable to reach the service department after several attempts. The contact was to call the manufacturer regarding the vehicle owner scheduling a repair with the dealer. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass 4x4. While the vehicle was in reverse, a crunching sound emerged form the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake pads needed to be replaced. While on the lift, the mechanic noticed holes on the frame and severe rust. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 118,000.
I took my vehicle in for an oil change to a local place (not dealer). He told me that the cradle/k frame was extremely rusted and looked dangerous to drive, he recommended I take it to the dealer and see if it could be repaired there at no charge to me, he said an 8 year old car should not have that much rust. I made an appointment at gandrud Jeep (green bay, WI) today and they confirmed the cradle/k bar was thoroughly rusted and had a large crack in it. They told me the 2007 Jeep Compass has the same issue and Jeep extended the warranty to 10 years on the frame so this could be repaired for no charge. They also told me it was extremely unsafe to drive it and that I shouldn't. I made an appointment for tomorrow to have it replaced, it's going to cost approximately $1200 to replace that piece. I looked online and there are numerous sites/blogs/comments on owners of the 2008 Jeep Compass having a completely rotted frame and frustration that the previous year's model was recalled/extended warranty so it could be replaced. This is a common issue and it's a very dangerous faulty piece that the owners should be aware of and replaced. I don't believe we should have to pay for this repair, there is clearly some issue with the coating on this piece that causes it to rust so quickly and completely. I am lucky that the guy changing my oil mentioned it to me, I usually went to the dealership for an oil change but they're out of the way. I also am concerned that every 3-4 months I get an oil change and gandrud never mentioned it to me, I don't know how quickly this part rusted or if they noticed. Please consider recalling this part, this rusted bar could cause many issues (even fatal) if left alone. I also took a few pictures that I will be sending into Jeep.
Dec 2015- my car mechanic found rotted out front end sub-frame/ cross member. He knew about a recall for this issue so I was able to get it fixed. ( impt pls note: Chrysler had never reached out to let me know about this- even though when I look up the recall for corrosion it's clearly listed ). Nor did Chrysler tell me the rear cross member was also on recall and would likely be needed and should get it done before the sept 2017 end of warranty. Forward to April 2018 - I discover rear cross member sub frame is badly rusted out. Called Chrysler customer sx they tell me that it's recall warranty ran out sept 2017- so they will not cover the repair this time. I feel Chrysler is responsible for this repair as they did not tell me about rear end problem when I could have had it fixed before the unbeknownst to me end of the extended warranty in sept 2017! I seek your help to review my complaint and request to offer legal reasons that will Chrysler honor the recall warranty. Which was valid for salt belt states- like MA where I live. I believe the reference # is 23-012-14.
I had my Jeep in for it's yearly inspection. During the inspection, the mechanic discovered my control arms needed to be replaced. I had just had them replaced during the previous year's inspection. He also found that the front driver's side subframe is rusting through. I contacted the dealer (I've had the car for just over two years) and was only told there is not open recall.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the sub frame was entirely rusted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the sub frame needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the subframe was rusted to the point that one could put a finger through. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the subframe needed to be replaced, but was not repaired. This was not part of fca's extended warranty for the 2007 Jeep Compass subframe. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
