Passenger headrest exploded while parked - thankfully it happened overnight while no one was in the seat. I checked online and there’s tons of reports of this exact issue with no way to repair it or recall it. There’s only the option to replace it from a parts store and it’s $500. Please enforce this as a recall.

6 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 04/06/2025

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the headrest in the passenger seat deployed without a car accident. Just randomly when the car was parked. Jeep dealership wants to charge me 140 dollars to inspect this and the air bags. Supposedly both have recalls but they have “expired”. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? it hit my husband in the head while he was sitting passenger. Now no one can sit comfortably in that seat and I’m scared the air bags are going to also deploy while I’m driving the car which could injure me and my kids in the process. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? no they are trying to charge me to look and told me it would be over 800 dollars to fix, which I do not have right now. The headrest is very obviously deployed. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no.

Electrical.

8 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 01/02/2025

Driver's side headrest exploded. Fortunately, the car was parked at the time, so no injuries. I understand that this is a known defect, but that a recall still hasn't been issued.

9 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 10/09/2024

The 2014 Jeep Compass was in a parking lot and the driver side head restraint opened up as though there was an accident, but there was no accident and no warning system, message, or other symptoms. There is broken plastic inside the headrest, so it cannot be reassembled. It is a safety issue because the part cannot be put into the original configuration that was intended by Jeep, so the current safety of my neck while in this car is unknown. Police and insurance were not involved because there was no accident. Dealer claims that (a) Jeep will not pay for a replacement despite the existence of multiple TSB's, and (b) there is a federal law preventing replacement parts from being manufactured on hand, so they must be ordered for every occurrence of a complaint, meaning I have been waiting for months to get this replaced - while in an uncertain state of safety. I am concerned that I will approach a statute of limitations on my complaint and not be able to get it fixed at all.

10 Seats problem of the 2016 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/11/2024

I went to adjust the headrest, the headrest popped and hit me in the head. There was some plastic pieces that came out when the headrest popped, it stayed connected. But headrest stayed (open) for the lack of a better term. About 2 to 2. 5 inches. Makes driving of the car really uncomfortable. Had to strap the headrest back to the hard plastic, so that I don't have the headrest pushing my head forward. And I don't have to drive with my back away the back rest of the seat. This happened before I started driving.

11 Seats problem of the 2013 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 01/29/2024

Passenger seat headrest ejected itself. Outside of the car was getting a handwash and suddenly the headrest just shot open. Now nobody is able to sit in passenger seat safely. Unsure how this could happen as car was operating just fine prior.

12 Seats problem of the 2017 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 01/07/2024

Driver side headrest has deployed, and there was no warning or notification prior to this happening. I should not have to pay hundreds of dollars on a replacement if clips or what may it be to hold device together are faulty.

13 Seats problem of the 2016 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 12/22/2023

In the summer of 2020, my front passenger headrest spontaneously popped while I was loading my child into the back of my car. The noise was scary and the popping could've easily hurt someone if there had been anyone sitting in the front seat. I contacted my local Jeep dealer quickly who informed me that there was a recall and that I could get a replacement. The replacement took well over a year to come in and wasn't replaced until October 2023. This entire time, the passenger headrest was popped out making it uncomfortable to sit and also decreasing the safety for that passenger. Now, just two months after it was finally replaced, the front passenger headrest popped again while my husband was driving and I was sitting there. Again, it was a very loud, scary noise and the jolt was both painful and shocking. This is extremely dangerous and I'm very disappointed that it happened again after taking a very long time to be fixed. I would like to know my options moving forward.

14 Seats problem of the 2015 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 12/09/2023

Passenger headrest popped off (ahr deployed) while I was driving. After further inspection the plastic pieces inside that holds the whole headrest together broke off. I researched this issue on google and there has been a lot of complaints with this happening and even a class action lawsuit back in 2020. I tried to replace the part but the dealership wants over $500 for just the replacement even though this is a known defect with the headrests in 2010-2017 Jeep Compasses.

15 Seats problem of the 2011 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 08/15/2023

Headrest clips broke and popped out.

16 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/21/2023

The headrest of my passenger seat deployed while I was driving on the highway. My twelve year old was sitting in the seat as it happened, and was hit in the head by the front of the headrest. There has been no formal inspection about it yet, but I witnessed it first-hand. There were no warning signals, lamps, or warnings associated with the incident and it happened very suddenly.

17 Seats problem of the 2023 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/26/2023

The contact rented a 2023 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled inadvertently, and the rear driver's door opened unintendedly, and the rear seat shifted forward. The contact stated that an unknown warning light was illuminated, and the traction control feature independently shifted into snow traction mode. The contact was made aware by the rental agency of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 460.

18 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/17/2023

The drivers side headrest active restraint deployed, there was no accident or hit to it. Upon inspection there was broken plastic peices found and the head rest could not be reset. I saw on some sites that this was a known issue and the warranty was extended 10 years from 2022.

19 Seats problem of the 2012 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

The passenger active restraint headrest exploded spontaneously. The vehicle was not in any accident. I happen to notice one morning that the headrest was deployed due to no known issue. Appears this has happened to numerous other people and not sure why this make/model issue has not come under a manufacturers safety recall.

20 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 08/26/2022

Headrest deployed, it can be inspected upon request. Headrest eployed after just closing the door, it impacted hard against the back of my head while parked, had this happened while driving it would've caused a serious accident. After getting home safely I did a quick resesrch of this issue with several reports from other car owners, plan on going to the dealer tomorrow to report the issue with them. Since it just happened I will report it to the dealer tomorrow but will keep a record for insurance report. No, there was no signs or alarms when the system failed, just with a visual inspection you can see broken plastic where it was supposed to be connected.

21 Seats problem of the 2013 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/05/2022

While preparing to enter my car today (6/5/2022) I heard a fairly loud popping/exploding sound. I quickly backed away from the car then approached it again and realized the passenger headrest, though attached, had basically split in 2. Upon further inspection I couldn’t see why this had randomly happened as I didn’t have a passenger with me and hadn’t touched it. I tried to force it back together but couldn’t figure out how to get it to move so I left it as is. Later this evening I started searching online for how to fit it back together and it appears this happens frequently especially with Jeeps and is a failure of a safety feature called active headrest. I went back out to look at it and saw exactly what I had seen other drivers mention, there’s 2 teeny tiny pieces of black plastic that apparently keep it from deploying and the right one had cracked. Just lucky that no one was sitting there at the time or that it wasn’t the driver headrest while driving - very unsafe, I can’t even believe a “safety feature” is approved when it’s only withheld by a piece of plastic so small you wouldn’t think twice about discarding it if you found it while opening a toy.

22 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/02/2022

Headrest popped open while driving and hitting me in back of head.

23 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 05/31/2022

While driving on the road my passenger side headrest deployed. I was not braking just driving at a cruising speed. I have a picture of the headrest deployed. The sound of this unit activating distracted me from my driving and the sound was quite loud and very unexpected. I have not brought it to the dealer as I see this is not an active recall for my vehicle for this malfunction, but I am afraid if this happens with the driver headrest it may cause injury and a accident. There were no warning lights prior to the unit deploying and this was the first time this occurred.

24 Seats problem of the 2016 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 05/27/2022

As I was backing out of a driveway, I heard a loud pop and felt something hit me in the back of the head really hard. My headrest burst open spontaneously. I now have a bad headache and sore neck.

26 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 10/18/2021

Driving vehicle and a torrential down pour of water came out of the front interior light which is located at the windshield . The water fell onto the entire entire of the car onto me driving and almost caused an accident as I was shocked and surprised. I have a sunroof in this vehicle and in researching it find that prior lawsuits have been filed and won. Jeep is aware of this and does not inform the buyers instead ignores it. I researched and saw that the drainage tubes were too small and tend to clog up and Jeep does not inform the customer of this. When researching further this has happened over and over and no recall has ever been started. I could have died or severely injured other, brought it to Jeeps attention and they stated we do not start recall that is up to the us government(arrogance of a supervisor) they refused to tell me who to report this to and told me to do the research myself if line is recorded it occurred11/03/2021 at app 3:10 . I paid. Approximately 920. 00 for the repairs where the Jeep shop left 7 inches of water on my carpeting and drivers seat. Corporate stated my problem and to deal with Jeep repair shop if prior lawsuits were won on this every one is aware of this why is a recall not done to help the consumer and Jeep made to notify their customers to have maintenance done on drain tubes. Headrest on passenger side popped without any collision or impact. It just popped. It was very scary. I’m thankful it didn’t cause any injury to anyone. The noise was very loud and happened without warning.

28 Seats problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 08/17/2021

About two years ago I noticed that my seat had a broken part. The power seat assembly had a broken place where it attaches to the actual seat. Finding the part to replace it is so expensive. I also purchased two new batteries running $400 plus from the dealership with the vehicle only being a few year old the batteries should last longer. The start stop on the car fails all the time and I barely am able to crank the car from the fob. Since purchasing this vehicle for $31,210. I am trying to reach the manufacture to see what they can do.

30 Seats problem of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/28/2021

While driving home from work one day I heard a loud sound like a gun. The headrest to the passenger seat just deployed on its own. Took it to my mechanic to be corrected and he said it couldn't be reset the clip or a pin must have broke. Then on Wednesday July 28th I got a warning light on my dashboard pertaining to airbags. Puts fear in me because I need to know that my airbags are there for me if needed. C&h auto care is aware of the problems with my vehicle. They are located in joppa maryland.

31 Seats problem of the 2016 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 10/26/2020

Radio stops working when it wants and then comes back on, but only a few stations end up working then after. Only wants to work 40% of the time. Have not been to the dealer ship yet. Also the passenger seat when there is an actually passenger in the seat says there is not and the Jeep dings the whole car ride, even though they are buckled up. The car thinks that they are not.

33 Seats problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/08/2018

Has the car 38 days and it stalled on me in traffic: wouldn't shift gears and stated that parking brake was engaged. Had it towed. Bad tcm. Waited 3 weeks for part. Replaced. Picked up 4 weeks later and had it for two days and it happened again while in traffic. Had it towed again. Twice my life has been put in danger. I was in motion twice at 50mph when it just engaged the parking break and shut down entirely. Check engine light, brake light, track light, every light you can think of came on and the car totally shut down, would not restart, would not shift gears for tow truck, nothing. Happened twice. 6/8/2018 and 7/7/2018.
