Vehicle Speed Control Problems of Jeep Compass - part 1

I have had problems with Jeep suddenly losing all power while driving with no warning! everytime ive had it checked they could not find anything wrong with it. Just recently it happened again and since then when I drive it doesn't seem to want to accelerate. There are no noises,instrument lights on any codes showing up. I had to wait a month for my appointment at the dealership and then another month for them to even tell me what was wrong. They said I need a new transmission which is ridiculous since my car only has 89,956 miles and a majority of those miles are from military moves. The only thing they did was run a diagnostic test (nothing showed up) and said they had 2 people test drive it ( but my mileage was the same going in and going out) they told me it would cost 7500 before taxes for the transmission. They could not give me a clear answer when I asked what exactly is wrong with the transmission. I was told that its something internal but they couldn't tell me exactly the problem because that would require them to take it apart. I asked if I should get a transmission flush to make sure it wasn't that since I just learned that cvt should be flushed earlier than usual and he told me probably not. I decide to take my car home and will never use them again. I went two months without a car and was unable to work because they did not offer me any time of vehicle while I had to wait. Im concerned because mopar discontinued the transaxle package with torque converter, part number 68000676ah that is for my vehicle because it is known to be defective. I bought this car brand new and thought it was clear of any defects or safety issues. A new transmission for a car that is less than 10 years old is ridiculous and seems like a lemon. Since Jeep knows this jatco transmission is defective and also discontinued it with a different part then why arent they offering a goodwill repair or at least a warranty adjustment. I will now have to quit my job or buy a new car.

Abs light came on, took to mechanic, was advised he needed to order part, picked up vehicle while waiting for part to come in. While driving to work was using cruise control and put on my brakes and had no brakes, I ended up rear ending into another vehicle. Causing extensive damage to my car.

Electronic throttle control vehicle light came on my 2016 Jeep Compass dash as I was on vacation vehicle would not accelerate and turned off causing us to almost wreck and having to leave it on the side of the road and call a uber and get a tow. There is many reports of this issue it needs to be a recall.

The car broke down the very first day I got it! the alternator had to be changed I took it back to auto connection where I got it from and they replaced it. Since then the car has been breaking down, I have had to pay for out of pocket for a new thermostat, another alternator, hoses, fuel pump, and I have only had the car a yr. Now it’s making a loud hissing noise after I just paid for brand new spark plugs and it’s not accelerating and ver 40/45 mph! which is costing me more money to pay for a uber to work and everywhere I need to go while still making car payments! my insurance doesn’t handle these repairs. I need immediate help please!.

Speedometer calibration off by3. 5% . This affects, displayed fuel economy. Showed higher than actual. Also affects correct speed control setting. Checked with gps and traffic control police radar.

My car shut off and wouldn’t start it said the asc failed I took it to the dealership they did a diagnostic test said my aux battery level was low need replaced I replaced that my engine light is still on I have to put it on a battery charger everyday so I can go to work then it wouldn’t start at work I needed someone to give me a jump it’s stills said I needed mine esc service and it saying my temperature is too high it only has 58. 884 miles on it I wish I never got this Jeep I bought it brand new and I had to replace both front tire rod ends I’m beyond upset it also said my car was not in park when it was it wouldnt start I overrided the gear shift but it still wouldn’t start.

Speedometer doesn't work, abs, brakes, engine and traction light keeps on. The shift lever changes by itself from d to m while driving. Abs module has to be replaced at my cost when other 2011 Jeep Compass have a recall f 50 for the same issue.

While stopped at a traffic light, I went to accelerate when the light turned green. The vehicle turns off to save gas when it is at a standstill and will power up when the brake is released. Today at the light I went to release from the brake and it would not move. Instead it started I had to turn on again. Which it took several times before it would start. Cars were behind me and one almost hit me due to the light being green and I was just sitting there.

Purchased Jan 20 2024 battery issues started in April 2024, battery started melting a particular component, I had to replace the battery, the melting was still happening, I went to another Jeep location, to get a fuse component that keeps wires separate, the melting still happened. I told the original Jeep dealership about each thing, they told me to bring it in finally and told me I had to pay for a wire harness to be run throughout the car, 3000, to 1800, and then 0, for a "malfunction they found and fixed" after wire harness situation and price DE-escalation after I told them they shouldjust take the car back because I dont have 3000; the start stop now not cooperating, has been happening since Aug 2024 in daytime with lyft rider in car. Stopped for a few months then repeated in October at night with other guests in car. Today (07/14/2025) before 2 shift of lyft (before 7:50pm) the car stopped 6 times, 2 times with 2 different lyft riders in car. 4 times by myself, 1 time on the highway 2nd to 1st lane, with 18 wheeler behind me. This time it started back immediately but with 2nd passenger in car and 3rd time on my own it took several minutes before turning back on. Car stopped driving again today 07/15/2025 (recorded video) now the car has a serv 4wd and the engine light is on, and I dont know whats wrong with the car. Its stressful, and I'm ready to give the car back for trade in value. Car still stops when it wants, its difficult to get a video as its happening, but the car just starts shaking, and stops driving no matter where I am. Everything will be easier to explain over the phone or in person, I am very scared of this car, this is my only source of income and now the check engine light is on and I don't know whats wrong with the car. I've never had this many issues with a car and its the youngest car I've had. Ive seen many complaints about Jeep Compass in particular after 2016. Having more problems and all similar to each other as the years go by.

I was slowing to make a left turn and the engine began to sound like it was accelerating. A lightning bolt light, skid warning light and check engine light all came on. I needed to get it home, but the car wouldn’t go above 25mph. Googling says that it has a stuck throttle body. Have not attempted to fix yet.

System failed was the throttle body, power (engine?) and brakes. I was unable to accelerate while going up a hill. When this happened the whole vehicle shut off which wouldn't allow me to push in the break pedal since I was still in drive. This could of caused us to be hit from the traffic following behind me. This put our lives at risk. Unknown, unsure what is being questioned as far as repeoducing a problem? it has failed my states safety inspection yesterday. I just purchased this vehicle a week ago. Warning lights were lightening bolt, abs light and traction control light.

I bought my Jeep Compass 2018 5 months ago and is a defected car and has been getting into issues and the dealer ship no cooperating at all and car now is parked cuz the tcm denied (transmission control module )also the engine coolant revoir broke suddenly and they made me pay for that when I don't really drive and the car came like that and I don't know what to do the people at the dealership. . . . . . Has been so rude to me and am about to loose my job I haven't been able to work and don't have money plus other privileges as two keys I should get when I got the car that I never got them only one ,the hidden the warranty papers etc and I need help. You I want to sue them I've been paying for a defected car they never told me about I had road assistance and I got pay out of pocket they also charged money when didn't have to and they been placed me on where now I'm getting a heart monitor cuz I'm not doing good they have to take their bad car ,pay the bank the debt and pay me back the payments I've been making plus indemnización due the mental and emotional and health damages this has caused on me and all money out of pocket I've pay for stuff in the car (fixing it) when they have told me multiple times the car was on great condition they also got me. Paper saying I bought the car as is and I never signed that paper and none of them are notarized either there's been a lot time where the car has stopped by itself and placed the emergency brake on while I'm with my 1 year old baby,driving on the hwy multiples times does that suddenly and people about to hit me vehicle ,I feel really frustrated I don't have car I've been loosing work, appoiments,errands one of my kids has cevere asthma and can't me walking in this weather help me please,one air bag is bad and keeps giving me a light but I don't know which one it's and they didn't do anything am afraid about something happen to me while am with my kids.

The first incident happened with my 2020 Jeep Compass on 12/27/23 while on the freeway the temp light flashed the gage didn't indicate overheating I got off the freeway check the engine no sign of overheating waited for awhile then started the car again within five minutes car gage went to overheating had it towed the oil cooler went out out mixed with the coolant paid big bucks for the repairs. I got my Jeep back on 1/10/2024 drove it for one week then on 1/16/2024 while driving the dash panel flashed car lost speed even pressing the gas peddle to the floor no acceleration while pulling over the emergency break engaged stoping the car in the road. Restarted still no acceleration and car won't move in natural or reveres wheels lock can only move forward at low speed, 01/25/2024 car towed from my mechanic to dealership. Scared to keep car the if it's gonna turn itself out while driving that's an accident waiting to happen.

In middle of driving, the vehicle suddenly shifts out of gear and won’t accelerate, multiple warning lights appear in dash all at the same time and car at times the vehicle won’t even turn off.

Engine shutting off at highway speed, loss of acceleration at highway speeds and shutting down and not restarting at stop signs or stop lights.

My gas pedal stuck flat to the floor and the plastic gas pedal broke causing me to hit a cement pillar in front of knick trip.

Unknown was driving while decelerating when engine stuttered and emergency brake light came on. The car then stalled and would not restart until 3rd try. This is the second time this incident has happened.

When I am stopped at a red light, once the light turns green I go to accelerate and the vehicle stalls. The car is still on but the engine completely shuts off. The only way for the vehicle to move again is by turning the car off and then on again. It is extremely dangerous and I have almost been rear ended because of it. Another issue I am having is when I go to accelerate the car jolts and has a grip to it. It feels like something is pulling the car back and I have to push extra hard on the gas to move the car. This happens a lot when merging on the high way or accelerating on side streets.

My 2015 Jeep Compass will randomly stall while I am driving. . . Randomly breaking while im driving. Then very frequently it will not let me drive past 20 miles per hour (sometimes slower than this). It randomly acts like this. It always feels like it does not want to accelerate. . . It will sometimes but most times doesn't. I have taken it to both a private service center and to the dealership multiple times. The dealership states each time they see nothing wrong with my car. No codes pop up. Also when this happens nothing pops up on my dashboard. Driving this car has put me at risk multiple times that I refuse to drive it now. The last time I drove it, it was going 10 mph and I was reversing into my driveway and the car randomly sped up while I was reversing then went back to going super slow. I know someone in the same area as me with a Jeep and she said her Jeep has been doing similar things and the dealerships don't know what's wrong with it. The car has a mind of its own and is unsafe to me the driver and the drivers around while it is on the road. Nothing was wrong with my car prior to this. . . This randomly started happening and never stopped months later.

The vehicle will show that it is overheating when it is not and it will power down where you are only able to go around 50. When going over mountain passes it will do this and sometimes it will totally shut down. It will do it in town and any time it is at a traffic light. Sensors, water pump have been replaced. Antifreeze does not leak stays at the same level it is not actually overheating. When you beging to drive again at about 65 the gauge immediately goes to normal. This is a hazard.

Dashboard had check engine light on. Transaxle indicator light turned on when I was driving about 65 mph on the freeway and slowed down and wouldn’t accelerate. The large commercial truck behind me was unable to stop on time that it almost hit us behind. There was a construction on my right lane and cars on my left lane. It took me some seconds to reach the end of construction site in my right lane. A second or two more not changing lane to my right side would have hit me and my children. All the truck driver was able to do was pressed on the horn to make me aware that he is too close behind me. Changed of speed in a freeway that fast could have killed me and my kids. I have not been able to drive in the freeway with this car and even if I get it fixed, I still won’t feel safe to drive it. The car runs fine when the transaxle light doesn’t come on. Certain movement, light turns on and off.

On my way to work this morning 4:30 ish the same way I always take. My car decided to drive itself, every light on the middle console lit up, and the dashboard. I was going 50 when my car completely lost control while I tapped my brakes no response its locked, my steering wheel locked up, my brakes locked everything went haywire it would not let me steer or even shift to neutral all I could do was pray it stopped while it flipped off the road around 5:14 am with me still trapped inside. My seat belt wouldn't release my doors wouldn't unlock and my windows wouldn't roll down I was trapped breathing in airbag fumes for an hour until help finally came. They had to cut the windshield open to save me. I have no idea what went wrong but I could've died or have been burned to death my car acted like it went under water and not over it. I only had it for three days and I honestly feel like I have been robbed I am a mopar fan however after this I will never be again. No one believed me except for the two truck driver because the car kept trying to drive itself while he was loading it on his truck. Please save someone else I can't be the only one. I was three hours late for work and I'm always an hour early.

The first time the situation occurred we were out of town. Warning lights appeared. The car had sluggish acceleration, noisy, rough ride, hesitating, jerking type movements . We thought it was going to stop. The message appeared "do not drive the vehicle. " my husband took the Jeep to the dealer and they were supposed to have fixed it. He was told it was the throttle. We drove the Jeep and the problem stopped for a while. It occurred again on may 25, 2023 and we had to turn around and go back home and park the vehicle and we have not been able to drive it. I found the following information; 2014 Jeep Compass among Chrysler vehicles recalled for stall risk. We have never received a letter about a recall. Warning lights came across the board.

On my way to work my 2019 Jeep Compass all of a sudden started flashing all these error messages while I was driving (check shifter, service transmission, service esc, awd warnings, check coolant, car shutting down) my car seemed to be stuck in 1st gear, and my parking brake came on. While panicking trying to get off the road, I turn left but my car is going so slow a truck comes over the hill and slams into my passenger side. I've had my car less than 2 years and it did this exact same thing a few days after I bought it , I took it back to the dealership I bought it from, but they couldn't replicate the issue, the car corrected itself and was fine until April 6 when it started again while I was driving and caused me to be in an accident. This has been very traumatic, I've never been in a automobile accident, and I feel like it's all because of my car wouldn't accelerate so I could get off the road safely.

One month ago, my Jeep Compass's engine turned off on hwy199 in southern oregon, one of the most dangerous highways in oregon. It was due to an error message saying "high coolant temperature warning". This warning stalled my engine in the middle of going 55 mph with vehicles behind me and limited turn-offs. Luckily, I was able to find a driveway and go up it before I ran out of speed. I was not able to accelerate at all. Once I stopped and parked the vehicle, the warning message disappeared, and my engine was fine. I proceeded to pop the hood and check the coolant and radiator for signs of overheating, and there was absolutely nothing wrong. I called the dealership, and they said that it was strange and that if the car seemed to be fine after that, then to "drive it until it happens again". I have read multiple threads of people experiencing the same issue. Since the first time, this issue has happened 5 more times all while driving on the same highway to and from work. I can't find any occurrence that causes it or warning signs before receiving that alert. In all cases that this has happened to me, the car has never once been overheating, yet it has almost caused an accident every time. This needs to be resolved. I do not want to trade this car in and pass this on to another unfortunate driver or their family. I am expecting a baby in three months and do not feel safe. I see that there are cases with the same incident report and dealerships have yet to find a solution or diagnosis. Someone is going to get hurt if nothing is done about this.

During the day the the instrument cluster that has a speedometer doesn't have any brightness so I cannot see the speed or warning lights. I took my car to the dealership and they said there is no solution to that problem right now and multiple vehicles have the same issue since September last year.

I have been experiencing the same issues with the high temperature warning as mentioned for the 2019-2021 Jeep Compass. If this occurs at higher speeds, I am able to release the accelerator, and coast for 2-3 seconds, which allows the temp to show back to normal, and continue normal driving conditions. If this occurs as I begin accelerating from a stop, the car will stall, requiring me to put the car in park, turn it off, turn it back on, then continue driving.

The electronic throttle control light(steady) and the electronic stability control activation/malfunction indicator lights came on. There are times the engine light comes on. The vehicle would not accelerate, jerking kind of movement, going 20 miles.

I drive a 2016 Jeep Compass and I was heading into work at 5am when my electronic throttle control light, check engine light and traction control light all came on. I lost the ability to accelerate so I pulled off on the side of the road and turned off my car. When I turned it back on only the check engine light came on so I started driving once again but my throttle control light blinked on a couple of times causing my vehicle to automatically slow down. I limped my car to work then home again with the same problem(same lights on). I have looked up to see what other Jeep owners have said about this and they're several complaints of the throttle body failing but Jeep not doing anything about it. This is a big problem that needs to be taken care of before someone seriously gets hurt when it goes out.

Yesterday I had the crankshaft position sensor replaced because of the ongoing stalling while idle and stalling while in motion issues. Today it has stalled 5 times while in motion on surface streets and the highways going over 40 mph and twice in a parking when sitting idle or initial startup. For the times when in motion and it stalled I was able to get off the road and avoid any collisions. This is unsafe, the truck must sit for an unknown period of time before it will restart. I am currently sitting on the freeway with hazards until it restarts. I spoke with Chrysler recall and they say there is nothing wrong with the truck and the information online showing multiple 2016 Jeep Compass stalling issues doesn’t mean anything because it’s not in the Jeep database. In the past when it stalls the check engine light normally does not come on. In my research it shows other owners being told the dealer cans dx anything because no errors. We are supposed to just drive these death traps until one of us dies before Chrysler will do anything. I am not financially able to go to a dealer and pay for diagnostics and repairs. As it stand I paid over $400 yesterday for that one part to be replaced. When will Chrysler be held accountable for these safety issues related to driving a vehicle that stalls and loses power while in motion. Then will not restart for an unknown amount of time. Why do we have to possibly pay with our lives. If this truck actually held value l could trade it in. But I can’t it’s worth 5k on kbb and the note is at 17k. In a previous complaint I got the mileage wrong and stated 116k.

While driving the vehicle shut down, I lost all steering. It has a history of stalling while driving, stalling while idle, and not restarting for random periods of time. After getting the vehicle restarted it stalled again two more times while driving. I parked in a parking lot for a shopping center. When I cam out after a period of 30-45 minutes - the vehicle will not start and just turns over and over. I used fixd to determine the camshaft position sensor was listed as a "major" issue - error p0335. I believe this vehicle is unsafe and it is only a matter of time when I will be injured due to the stalling and non-restarting issues. I also believe Chrysler is responsible for this problem. Considering the vast amounts of user evidence online of other owners having the same issues - Chrysler is just waiting for them to age off the road. I purchased the vehicle from carmax on 6/18/2022 and feel I was sold a lemon. I have made a complaint on this site before. I have called Chrysler and they say there is nothing wrong with my vehicle - it has been repaired and they did their part. Obviously this is not the case for mine and thousands of other owners across the country. Why are we the ones who have to suffer at the negligence of the automaker? do I have to die or become severely injured for them to take responsibility for their design and manufacturing flaws? do others have to suffer irreparable damage also? why won't the government do something about these unsafe vehicle we were sold? it is not enough to say "well there are no active recalls".

I will be driving and suddenly the car stops. The parking break comes on and the car won't start. Takes awhile to get it restarted. It seems dangerous and as I've googled seems like a problem all across the board not just me.

I was on the entrance ramp for the freeway and the gas pedal disengaged. I could not accelerate and my car slowed down. A message on the display said to service electronic throttle. This has happened to me twice. My car is barely six months old. I was going 40 mph at the time. Today, I was getting into my car after picking up lunch and as I sat down, the alarm went off for close to 4 minutes. I unlocked and locked the key fob, I started the car and turned it off, and repeated everything about twenty times. I'm in a very public place sitting inside of a car whose alarm won't shut off. . . Anyone could've called the police on me. Someone probably did. The alarm is supposed to shut off at 90 seconds, why didn't it? why have an alarm that won't disengage? when I press the button to disable the auto stop/start, my car will jerk a few times and a message will pop up to service the auto stop/start. This first happened two days after I got the car (less than 100 miles on car) and it's probably happened close to ten times by now. I'm usually going about 30 - 40 mph when this happens.

Electrical transmission problem. Car stopped working in the middle of street almost got in accident. Won’t accelerate over 20 miles. Problem turning on after turns off automatically. Seen so many people with this problem. This car needs to be investigated is not safe.
