Cruise Control Problems of Jeep Compass

While driving approximately 50 mph with the cruise control on, the engine light came on and said "service engine", the engine shut off and shortly after restarted on it's own. When it restarted it did not allow me to reach the previous speed and would not allow me to restart the cruise control system. It did finally let me reach a decent speed. I parked the car and then later started the car, it appeared to be normal, the cruise control worked again. At home I was able to reset the service engine light. This was dangerous because if there was a vehicle close behind me there would have been an accident.

When driving vehicle would lose power and could not accelerate. While on rt 90, massachusetts turnpike I had to get across traffic to crawl off highway to garage. They looked at it and said weren't sure, perhaps transmission. After a while when I restarted was able to crawl home on local roads. It seemed better until another time on rt 91 I was in dangerous situation when auto started slowing down and would not accelerate and I was almost his by tractor trailer truck. Luckily I crawled back home again. It was very dangerous situation. Few days later I was going to take to garage and in middle road it stopped and would no longer drive at all. It sat in middle street until I had it towed to repair. They could help at my usual repair garage and I had to have towed again to Jeep dealership where they informed me transmission was blown and it would cost almost $6500 to replace transmission, throttle body and maniverter. My sister had a 2015 Jeep that had same problem year after she bought and she was also in dangerous situations on highway same as mine. Hers was recalled. My car is only 8 years old and this kind of repair is outrageous. I have had it towed 3 times and cannot move it at all. It seems to have messed up cruise control which few months previously stopped working before transmission quit all together. Research has showed me this is a chronic and dangerous problem with Jeep vehicles as mechanics have also informed me. This had been ongoing problem for some months until it stopped driving at all. Jeep needs to recall these dangerous vehicles. I have statement from lia Jeep of northampton, MA stating necessary repairs but my printer is not working so I cannot upload.

Cruise control did not disengage in a dangerous situation. Cruise control was on going down I-20 interstate near shrevport louisana,,, coming around a curve I noticed all traffic had stopped,both lanes due to some type construction and as I tried to brake,,,the cruise control would not disengage with my emergency braking ,,,I had to go into the side ditch and finally put the transmission in neutral to stop ! extremely dangerous in which myself and wife could have been easily killed. ! later,on checking the internet to see if this was a condition other Jeep Compass owners had had,,,,I found 'recalls' on other Jeep products ' notifying other Jeep owners of Jeep cherokee, Jeep grand cherokee, and Jeep wranglers' specifically with problems of Jeep cruise controls not disengaging' ,,,,but no recalls on Jeep Compass',,,, which I had just had that same extremely dangerous situation happen ! ( I was going highway speed at 70 mph when I hit my brakes trying to stop in an emergency situation and I could not overcome the stuck cruise control to stop and had to take evasive action leaving the highway to the ditch at 70 mph and still wouldn't stop till I placed the auto in neutral and allowed me to stop ).

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 70 mph with the cruise control activated the driver attempted to stop the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal but the cruise control did not deactivate causing the vehicle to nearly crash into several stationary vehicles ahead. The drive switched the transmission to the neutral position to stop the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer was not notified. Tl- the contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle would not properly acceletrate and the transmission would not properly change gears. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer keene Jeep located at 410 winchester st, keene, nh 03431 who replaced engine but the failures continued to occur. Also, while driving 35 mph with the cruise control activated the cruise control system would not deactivated causing the driver to crash into a tree stump. No injuries were reported, no police report was taken. The odor of coolant was also present inside the vehicle causing the driver to become ill. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer contemporary Jeep located at 30 hammond rd, milford, nh 03055 and the manufacturer was notified of the failures. . The failure mileage was 20,000. Jft.
