Jeep Compass owners have reported 17 problems related to throttle control warning light on (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Multiple issues with throttle body resulting in a loss of power and control of vehicle. Back in 2017, I had an issue with the car jerking, cutting out, and losing power. Took car to a Jeep dealership and throttle body had to be replaced. Again during the summer of 2020, vehicle started losing ability to consistently accelerate. Car began jerking, cutting out, and losing power on the roads and highway. The vehicle throttle light, stability traction control, and engine light illuminated. Dealership confirmed throttle needs to be replaced again. Reported to Jeep corporate office with no resolution. Severe safety issue. Jeep doesn't care and is claiming no responsibility until a recall has to be issued.

I was driving and my vehicle went into limp mode while driving on highway, the check engine light, traction control light and electronic throttle control light came on, pulled over turned my vehicle off, waited a few minutes turned my vehicle back on just check engine light remained. After work that day my check engine light went off. . . Rpms had been fluctuating randomly for about a week. . Got in my car this morning and check engine light was back on and traction control comes and goes. Numerous vehicles made by fca that have the 2. 4 engine across the board have multiple throttle body issues causing this to happen.

The connection from the gas to the throttle appears to be failing. The car will stay on while driving but will no longer accelerate or will randomly accelerate. After it happens, the throttle light and check engine light will come on.
Rough idle, spotty acceleration, remote start cuts out, engine light, ebs light, throttle control light all come on, higher rpm this issue sounds like multiple others that people have had, but there's no recall for my VIN?. The attached description from another person is exactly what is happening to mine. My vehicle has 62500 miles.

Check engine light came on,throttle control light starts flashing, traction control light starts flashing, remote start cuts out. Idle becomes irregular and vehicle runs rough to not being able to accelerate but will idle in park at over 2000 rmps. Vehicle only has barely 19000 miles. It had to be towed to dealership.
While driving my vehicle at the normal speed it suddenly begins to slow down to a snail pace. The throttle light and the stability light came on.
The electronic throttle contol light came on and I experienced throttle control failure while the vehicle was in motion going about 45mph, at night, in the rain, in a construction zone, with a vehicle behind me and oncoming traffic, and my child in the car. The car seemed to stall out and would not accelerate, I was able to quickly turn on my hazard lights and turn the ignition off and restart the vehicle and go. This could have been a terrible accident!!!!! the malfunction indicator light remains on.
While driving on the highway on two separate occasions now, my Jeep suddenly loses power and decelerates. The engine light, electronic throttle control light and stability control light come on, the Jeep runs very rough and will not accelerate. After pulling over and turning the car off and back on the engine light stays on and the other lights go off but after driving a bit the problem occurs again. When scanned the code is u0401 stating that there is an issue with communication to the pcm. There is only 88700 miles on the Jeep. The power train warranty is good to 100000 but the dealership states that the pcm is not covered under the drivetrain warranty. After researching online there are many reports of this happening to othe Jeep Compasses and patriots. Both times this has happened on the highway it has been a particularly scary situation due to the fact that the Jeep rapidly decelerates and the traffic behind me has had difficulty slowing as quickly. This happened 12/16/18 as well as 12 /6/18 and 12/17/18.
I have had my 2015 Jeep Compass for 2 year and 8 months. I bought it used. Since the moment I bought it, I have had acceleration issues. My car won't shift into gear immediately when I make turns. Just recently the throttle control light started blinking. As of today the light came on and stayed on. I was unable to drive over 20 mph and then I wasn't able to accelerate anymore. I had to pull over and shut the car off, I waited a few minutes and restarted the car. As soon as I made a u-turn the light come back on. I played with the different drive settings as a coasted back home. Once I made it home (6 minutes) the throttle light went off and the check engine light came on.
2014 Jeep Compass sputters and jerks, difficulty accelerating, the engine light randomly came on along with the electronic throttle light. Unable to accelerate above 45 or 50 mph. . Only gain speed when going downhill!.
Takata recall the throttle control indicator came on and then I started having issues with being able to accelerate. The check engine light came on and the throttle indicator light went off and come back on randomly. I was told that there are two sensors that have been know to go bad on Jeeps and one if not both would need to be replaced. There was no warning just lost all acceleration capability going 60mph in motion on the highway.
"takata recall" my Jeep goes to the dealership for everything. I recently just got an inspection. My Jeep has 67,000 mile on it. I have had 2 recalls, in which have not been fixed due to lack of parts. When I got my Jeep back after my inspection, I notice the vehicle seemed to be lagging when I hit the gas pedal. This morning a light flickered on then off, so I looked in my user guide to see what it was. It was the electronic throttle control light. I was in the middle of accelerating onto an interstate, which could have been fatal. I am more than pissed right now. I had been a devoted chevy fan for years, and wanted top give Jeep a shot. But at this point, I'm ready to ditch this lemon, and go back to my chevy roots.

Last year I had to pay for a new throttle and now my airbag sensor light will not go out on a city street.
My vehicle started losing power intermittently. It would remain running, but would not respond to acceleration and the electronic throttle control light would flash. At first, this was an intermittent problem, solved by pulling over to the side of the road, turning the car off and restarting it. Eventually, this became an everyday occurrence, until eventually, the car would not even start due to this problem. I had to have it towed to the dealership, and they replaced the throttle body assembly, which solved the problem. I have noticed several recalls for this exact problem for my year and make and model, but the database states that my VIN number was not included in the recall. This is a safety issue, as I have had to pull over on the side of the road several times in fast-moving traffic on narrow shoulders.

While driving at about 35mph my car buck and almost stalled out. It seemed like it lost a little power after that. When I reached a stop sign approximately 1/2 mile down the road and attempted to accelerate, I had no power and could not break 10mph. My electronic throttle control indicator light is now flashing and the esp/tcs light is on steady. The only error code I am getting is for the #1 O2 señor because I damaged it taking it out to eliminate a clogged cadtilac converter. At times it takes 3 seconds for my car to even attempt to start (meaning nothing is happening). It has a rougher idle then it used to have.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass fwd. The contact stated that the electronic throttle control warning light would illuminate intermittently. The vehicle would not respond to acceleration attempts and would stall sporadically, without warning. The failure recurred on three occasions. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 84,000 and the current mileage was approximately 84,500. The VIN was unavailable.
