Ignition problems of the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Seven problems related to ignition have been reported for the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2002

While traveling on highway and without prior warning, rotor attached to distributor cap burned out. Dealership was aware of problem.

2 Ignition problem

Turned vehicle off, but could not restart.

3 Ignition problem

Consumer stated she was able to cut the vehicle off, and remove the key from the ignition while the vehicle was still in gear, as a result, the vehicle rolled back. Depressing the brakes did not stop vehicle since vehicle was turned off. Mr.

4 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2000

Vehicle sometimes won't start, and sometimes it will start. Took vehicle to mechanic, and they couldn't find cause of problem. Took to another mechanic and he changed ignition wires, but problem still exists.

5 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 10/01/1996

Owner states that vehicle stalls while driving, he notes at one time vehicle stalled three times and could not be restarted, most times when vehicle would stall it could be restarted. Cargo lights would not turn off, several hours later they turned off on their own.

6 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 08/30/1996

When driving at highway speed the vehicle shakes and the check engine light comes on and the vehicle cuts off.

7 Ignition problem

While traveling at any speed or indication vehicle would stall . Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.
