Three problems related to underhood wiring have been reported for the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Underhood Wiring problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2007

I returned home from a 1 mile drive to pick up my daughter. We went upstairs to our second floor apartment. About 10 minutes later I heard the alarm to our 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee going off. I went outside to shut it off, and found the whole engine up in flames. My husband tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher, but it was too late. By the time the fire dept. Got there it was a total loss.

2 Underhood Wiring problem

Failure Date: 06/30/1998

Just started the vehicle when it stalled and made a "grinding" noise unexpectedly which caused an underhood fire. Cannot determine what caused the fire.

3 Underhood Wiring problem

Failure Date: 11/18/1995

Underhood fire; exact cause unknown; possibly caused by new design flaw around battery; vehicle totaled. Tt.
