Speed Control Linkage problems of the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Three problems related to speed control linkage have been reported for the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Speed Control Linkage problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2001

While driving on freeway and going up hill there is a hesitation coming from engine. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide any further information. Consumer states the transfer case is binding on turns and the gears tend to click when driving over 70 mph.

2 Speed Control Linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/07/1997

While backing into a parking space the vehicle accelerated in reverse, hitting a pillar. The rear part of the vehicle's body was almost pushed up to the front doors from impact.

3 Speed Control Linkage problem

Intermittently when brakes are applied vehicle revs to a high rpm. Also, while making a turn, vehicle will stall out and die. Dealer has inspected vehicle several times, and has not been able to correct problem. There was a crack in the bracket for the power steering pump which disabled the fan belt. Consumer states vehicle has experienced electrical problems.
