My 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee (original owner) stumbles and dies, it does restart once I shift to neutral. It is getting more frequent. I had a total of 8 incidences in the past week. 6 times happened pulling up to stop sign at about 15 mph. 2 times happened while cruising along at 55 mph. I lost power steering and brake boost. There is a lot of internet information regarding the same problem. This is a safety issue. I'm worried driving my Jeep in any traffic now.
Ecm has a fault circuit board per dealer and needs replacing . Causes completer power failure and engine will quit running , all electrical goes out -- no lights at night or emergency flashers -- and power brakes fail to work . This happens at any time , stopped or on the road .
I received my safety recall notice over 2 months ago,and have not yet heard from any dealer #vc741345 n45 besides the gas tank problem,my Jeeps ignition just turns off while I'm driving. It really scares me to death. Plus after driving for atleast 30 minutes, and I put my car in park to turn off,the car keeps moving forward, like a jerk motion,I'm disabled & on ss & can't afford to buy another car. Please include my car in the recall for the ignition replaced, sincerely barbara w. Peterson.
My 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo just dies when I'm driving. Doesn't matter what speed I'm going. It died over 10 times on my way home from san jose to san francisco while on the freeway going 60 mph. This problem started over a month ago. We have changed the crank sensor and coil. The trottle has been checked and the fuel injector. We have changed the battery. We don't know what else to change. After reading the same complaints from Jeep owners on the cnet car tech forums I dediced to file a complaint. They have the same problem and are spending a lot of money replacing different parts and the problem continues. This problem is very dangerous, driving on the freeway then the car just dies. I have no money to spend to keep on replacing different parts. Please help. Thanks.
While I indicate that this problem began Jan 2008, it has become obvious with research that the problems I had over the last two years led up to this. For the last 2 years, if I am driving in high altitudes, engine will sputter, lose power and threaten to die. Over the last two months, my car will just die. No warning, no speed requirement, no situation requirement. Have replace so many things, it is unbelievable and very costly. Once the car has died, it will refuse to restart for several minutes to one hour. When it does restart super heavy gas smell accompanies. Today it started to backfire. Please do something about this. This happens to many other Jeep Grand Cherokee owners. Mine is a 97. Thank god it has not happened to me on the freeway at high speeds like some others. What kind of havoc would that cause on our freeways during rush hours?.
After driving at highway speed for about 1 hour the car suddenly and spontaneously stops. This has happened on five different occasions.
Since mid December 2004, I have been having trouble with my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It has since been in the shop on a weekly basis, with the same problem of the motor hesitating or cutting off while driving. So here we are $1400 later driving off the lot and the car cuts off twice before driving 1/4 of a mile. They have cleaned the throttle plate twice, replaced the fuel pump, replaced the catalytic converter, replaced a primary coil twice, replaced the O2 downstream sensor, replaced wiring in the steering column and then this week replaced the O2 upstream sensor. And I still have the same problem with the hesitation and cutting off. The only response from the dealership service department was that with this many miles I'm going to be nickeled and dimed with repairs. The car has never given me any major problems prior to December. I am not getting anywhere with this service department and am not ready to give up on this car. I took it to the dealership for the repairs feeling that they would be the most knowledgeable about the car. I am very frustrated at not being able to find out the problem and have it corrected. I would appreciate any suggestions. I have requested a print out from sadler that details all that has been done to this car since December. I would appreciate it if someone could contact me concerning this issue.
I purchased this 1997, Jeep Grand Cherokee from broadway Volkswagen on auto row in oakland CA. At the time the odometer read 48,080k. Two weeks ago the car stopped running while I was driving it. I had to have it towed to albera bros. Jeep/Chrysler dealership where I?ve taken the vehicle since I purchased it. I also purchased a warranty, for $1500 at the time that I purchase the vehicle, which was contained in the contract of the automobile installment payments. The warranty was to cover all repair that is cover for 72 months or 100k miles. I contacted the warranty company, warentech, who's headquarters are in texas and was advised that they would have to send someone out to look at the car. Someone did come out look at the car and took pictures. After a few days I contacted warentech and was advised that they would have to review the information and would get back to me. After several more days I contacted warentech again. I was advised that they needed me fax them my maintenance records verifying that I had maintained the vehicle. I faxed warentech copies of all recent maintenance records. After two or three more days, I once again contacted warentech and was advised that I needed to send more maintenance records and if I didn't have anymore they would deny coverage for repair to the vehicle. I faxed over a total of 13 more records of maintenance verifying that oil changes as well as other maintenance records. That was two days ago and I?ve not heard anything from warentech since. I have already paid $125 dollars to have the car towed to the dealership and have paid another $140 for a rental car to get to and from work. I am very afraid that warentech is going to refuse to pay for the repairs they've already had almost 2-weeks and nothing has been done. I pay $546 a month car not via payroll deduction and have never missed a payment this for two years and I still owe over$18k for the car. I don't know what to do.
