33 problems related to defogger have been reported for the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
We have owned our 1999 Grand Cherokee since 1999 - its been a great car but every single issue listed on this website has befallen us. Currently @ 149k miles we have no heat on the driver side due to blend door assembly, the airbag light goes off all the time and there is no heat in the drivers side seat. I am shocked that so many people have the exact same issues and that to me says there is truly something wrong. We also took part in a class action suit that covered some of the expenses we had in continually replacing the brakes - especially the rotors which warp with out notice and can do that if you just step on the brakes to hard! even if you have just had them replaced. Cheap parts? I am a die hard Jeep owner but after reading all of these postings I am wondering if my alliance should be elsewhere?.
Visibility: defroster/defogger system. Windshield blower. Cold air out the passenger side and visibility is decreased. I have had this fixed once when I bought the Jeep 6 years ago.
When I turned on the heat one fall day I got hot air on the driver side and cold air on the passenger side. It doesn't matter whether I select defrost, floor, or mid-level vents. Also I had the temperature settings on high. I have not repaired this yet, it is a safety issue due to difficulty defrosting the windshield. The dealership said it will be very costly. It is not intermittent because it is always failed.
The blend doors on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited have broken giving me no heat during the winter. I cannot afford to fix the problem as I do not have $1200. 00 for fix it. This is a travesty and an indication of just why the american big three are in so much trouble. This vehicle is the worst vehicle that I have personally ever owned.
The heating, air conditioning and defrost ventilation system has a systematic progressive failure. The blend doors started to fail interfering with the ac and defrost and heat on the passenger side. Now I have total failure and electrical short that interferes with the speedometer and it was difficult to start and idle, I'm lucky to have gotten home.
Heater blend door failure heater core failure a/c evap failure.
I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. The blend door is bad and I have no defrost or heat on the driver side of the Jeep only cold air.
Windshield visibility problem caused by defective blend door on zone control for heater, causing unsafe visibility issue in inclement weather.
Hvac system that breaks on everyone and its not a recall.
1999 wj Grand Cherokee limited- blend door problem. I had the bled door problem fixed on my Jeep fixed about 40k miles ago. This issue has cropped up again. I travel to the mountains on the weekends and external temp usually get below freezing. Last weekend the blend door problem came up suddenly. There is no heat on the drivers side and the windshield defrost functions . Due to the windshield being fogged up, I almost drove over the cliff avoiding oncoming traffic. Please consider this lack of heat as a safety issue.
99 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited will only blow out cold air. No heat at all. Get ac codes of 52, 54, 56 from the diagnostic screen.
Ac blend doors don't work causing my heat/ac to only work on have the car at a time. In the winter my defroster is only able to defrost half my windshield and the other side has ice cold air coming out the vent witch makes it unable to defrost and causes me to drive with half a defrosted windshield. So half the car gets heat the other half gets ac all winter long no matter what setting you put the system on, this will eventually cause a accident if not addressed.
When the heat is turned on in my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, cold air blows out of the passenger-side vents, freezing my passengers. I have read that this is a problem that all 1999-2004 Grand Cherokees have, and Jeep should put out a recall. This is a very expensive repair!.
I'm having issues with broken blend doors and recirculation doors on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the dual zone climate control.
Fogging of windshield due to improper design of the hvac on my Jeep. This si the second time it has broken, with only 55,000 miles on my 99 Grand Cherokee limited.
When I bought the vehicle from Jeep dealership I was told that there was a problem with ac/ heating unit and it had been fixed. Not long after I have no heat and no ac coming out of my passenger side vents. Now I have no heat or a. C out of any vents and all I get is outside air.
1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd, blend door on hvac/defroster stopped working.
No heat on passenger side - due to the infamous "blend door" problem.
(1) no warning (2) cold air coming out of passengers side heater vents all the time, also this makes it next to impossible to defrost the passenger side windshield. (3)I was told it cost $1200 to fix this, and I do not have the money right now to do this.
1999 Grand Cherokee limited blend door problem this problem is on every Jeep I read about this is a massive error on Jeep there should be a recall. Thanks, normand.
Hearter blend door in heater box not turning.
No incident. Faulty parts that every owner will have to repair at some time. The hvac system blend doors fail blowing only cold air. All owner will or had this problem. Repair cost for mine was $850. 00. This repair may have to be repeated at later dates.
The contact stated the blower fan stopped working and he could not defrost his windshield. At that time, he could smell an electrical fire. The vehicle was taken to the dealership ,and they determined the wiring harness for the blower motor melted. He replaced the harness and the resister for the blower fan himself.
I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the passenger side blows hot air even when the temperature of the dual climate control is set lower than the driver. I have read in forums and many other Jeep owners have the same problem.
Cold air blows from one side of the dash even when you have the heat turned on making defroster inoperable in the cold. This is extremely dangerous in the cold. Dashboard has loud creaking sound coming from its underside when ventilation is turned and creaking from the dash seconds after shutting the engine off. These Jeeps are known to have this severe safety issue.
Rh side including defrost duct blows out only cold air, making defrost on the rh side difficult.
Blend \ actuator doors are "stuck" open on the passenger side. That's outside air coming in all the time through the defroster, dash vents, foot wells and the rear passenger side foot area. Tough in the winter! had the problem while under warranty, but dealer said they couldn't find anything wrong. Now, 2 years later, they say it's the blend doors and maybe the evaporator unit also. They quoted $1700. To pull the dash and repair. This is on our 1999 Grand Cherokee limited with now 117,000 miles. Don't want to go through another winter with cold air coming in, and afraid the entire system will fail. With this economy, also don't have $1,700. To put into the truck either. I believe the dealership was aware of the problem first time around. After learning about the on-line chat rooms regarding Jeeps , I see that about 20% of all Grand Cherokee limited and overland owners are having this problem. Chrsyler should step up and fix this!.
Brake rotors warped, and subsequently replaced with same quality, thus are warped again, causing severe shaking to front end upon braking. Mfg. Zone mgr refuses to correct situation, stating it is wear and tear, (NHTSA campaign-00v136000). Starter drags intermittently upon starting with a complete failure at 500 miles. Mfg will not replace starter until it completely fails again. Heat is resricted to drivers feet, and high pitched sound is heard as a result of the restriction. Mfg. Tech service bulletin on file for problem, but dealer calls it normal. Remote control memory side view mirrors will not reset to proper positions, thus causing a safety issue, as mirrors are never in the same place twice. Dealer observed problem and disregarded same. Pittsburgh zone manager contacted by dealer. Mgr refuses to do anything, even though safety issues are involved, as with brakes, mirrors, and starting problem.
Within four years approximately 8,000-10,000 miles both front brake rotors had to be turned twice and then replaced. Also, both front calipers had to be replaced. This causes vehicle to vibrate and make a grinding noise when braking. Dealer and manufacturer were notified, and were unable to locate the cause. The brakes pulsated while driving. The dash vent did not work, and the air only worked through the defrost. The consumer stated the front end of the vehicle felt loose, the dealer discovered the ball joints needed to be replaced. The driver side rear quarter panel was loose.
Blend door failure in my Jeep. Blows cold air all the time.
Since puchase of vehicle there has been a vibration when applying brakes. Took vehicle to dealer, and they replaced rotors. Consumer states that recall 00v136/man recall 879 explains the problems vehicle is experiencing, however consumer has been charged for all repairs. After running vehicle with a/c on for longer than an hour, the a/c stops cooling, a/c was blowing through defroster vents, found miscalibrated atc head. Vehicle would cut off at idle. Right rear window inoperable. Crank sensor was replaced.
I am an owner of a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited v8. I have encountered many problems with this vehicle but some have already been resolved under manufacturer's warranty. A couple problems still exist though. One main problem is that my vehicle occasionally stalls out on me at red lights. It idles very slow (@400 rpm) and this is usually when the vehicle fails on me. I'll lose power to the transmission, but all the electrical items will still work, such as the radio and heater. When the engine dies out, the check engine and airbag lights will display. This problem has been brought to the attention of two dealerships but has not yet been resolved. Another problem I have is that I will feel a big clunk when I am accelerating, usually when I first start to drive off. The second type of clunk I feel is when I put the vehicle in reverse to drive. I will feel a big bang like somebody had hit me from behind. This will specifically happen during the shift from reverse to drive. The third problem I encounter happens when I have my heater on. I will have the control settings set @80's and the air conditioner will operate. I do not have the setting at defrost mode. It is in regular mode and when I want the heat, the ac plus the heat will trigger. I would greatly appreciate it if these problems were looked into. Thank you.
Since date of purchase wipers did not function, air conditioner intermittently fails to blow air for periods up to 30-60 seconds. Can occur repeatedly, with only seconds in between. Overhead computer system repeatedly sounds alarms that the lift gate is open when it is closed. Rear defroster comes on at its own whim, and at times will not turn off unless key is turned off. Transmission was replaced. On board panic system (integrated with the keyless entry system) goes off at will, sounding the horn and flashing lights. Occurs almost continually when vehicle is locked. The body control module was replaced, numerous attempts at investigating the wiring, replacing connectors and sensors have still left us with the defects. The vehicle is well known in the community because it simply cannot be silenced. We have been told that numerous other 1999 and 2000 models of Grand Cherokees have had similar problems, especially with respect to the transmission which has caught fire when it failed during driving (as related by a Jeep dealer service department) we were lucky my husband noticed a problem before it reached the point of no return. Please contact if additional information is needed, will be happy to provide whatever it necessary to begin an investigation into the plague known as the Grand Cherokee.
