Lately I been having trouble startimg the Jeep. At first it seems as if the battery is low. Sounds like it wont start but then it slowly picks up and starts if I press the gas. I changed battery but still having trouble. But once its on and running it seems fine. I also have a steering problem. Truck seems to pull to the left.
"takata recall" to be truthfully honest nothing about this Jeep is safe I didn't know that I could put in a recall for this Jeep because I thought it was too old and too late anyway sensors are horrible no turning signals , my belt assembly breaks a part while driving radiator gets really hot to the point of smoking even when my coolant is full I have sun roof problems because water leaks through it and floods the driver and passenger side trunk will not open my suspension is in great need of help it doesn't even bounce , alot of safety problems but like I said didn't know I could for file for a recall so I'm hoping that this can get recalled.

Passenger side front door would not unlock. All doors automatically lock when vehicle speed increases above approximately 15 mph. Vehicle was parked and passenger was not able to open door using door handle. After several minutes we were able to get the door to unlock and passenger was able to egress the vehicle. This could pose a serious threat to occupants that could lead to serious injury or death by delaying or preventing their exiting from the vehicle in an emergency or after an accident. This locking system failure also disables the external door operating mechanism making it impossible for someone outside the vehicle to open the affected door thereby making it more difficult for them to assist those inside the vehicle. This make, model and year vehicle has a recall that addresses loss of fuel tank integrity following a rear end collision. If the loss of fuel tank integrity resulted in a fire the failure of the door lock system to prevent occupants exiting the vehicle could result in serious injury or death.
One day I was on my way to work and the heater on the passenger side was blowing cold air. The drivers side was warm air blowing. I took it to the shop to be fixed and it cost me $796. 00. Once I started telling people what had happened it seemed like any one that had a Jeep had been through this expensive problem just to have heat in your vehicle in the middle of winter and no extra money to fix it right away. I think this should be a recall on Jeeps for the actuator and blend doors. I think I should be refunded for the cost of this bad/poor design on Jeep's. Also the electric door locks. I was leaving work one day and went to unlock my door and it would not unlock. I had to call a lock smith to get it unlocked, only to find out the electric door switch went bad in it. That cost another$185. 00. I also hear this problem happens to alot of Jeep's. Now my heated mirror on the drivers side is all messed up and you can not see out of it clearly and it will not defrost. So now it looks like about another $100 or so to get that fixed. When I first bought this Jeep about 1 1/2 years ago the fan that cools the motor went bad and was causing the motor to overheat. That cost another $200 to have that fixed. I think some of these items need recalled and give these people with Jeeps some of there money back because of all of the problems that we have had with them and all these things seem to start around 100,000 miles. Something needs done.
1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Consumer writes in regards to transfer case actuator recall notice. The consumer stated the recall noticed stated, the parts were not available.
I am coming home driving my Jeep Grand Cherokee 1999 from my mechanic in queens village after he change the map sensor and relay to fix the stalling problem on the Jeep. Driving on grand central parkway at the speed of 55mph, I was lucky to have driven my car and be able to come to inner roads when my car died(stalls) again in the middle of the traffic. After 30min, the car starts again after a numerous tries then stops after 500ft and it didn't start until after 15min of standing by in the middle of traffic again. It's just so frustrating when this happens because my car is in very good shape and it's stalling my engine, unbearable problem because I am afraid to drive my car on a highway or expressway.
I was driving on the highway at 70 mph and the car shut off by itself without any warning, then within 10 seconds, it restarts itself. Very scary. . . This has happened to me more than 10 times while on the highway. . It also happens at random times, anyday, anytime, any speed. Sometimes when it dies, I have to wait about 10 to 15 mi utes before it will start up again. . . . Very fustrating!!!!!!.
Hi, my name is david williams I have done work for a company call riverrockauto based out of indiana this guy scott cardy buys Jeep Grand Cherokees and sells them here in mn I know this vehicle lic # vlv 911 he sold to a guy in iowa it has over 300,000 miles on it when I rebuilt the motor then he changed the odometer to read at about 120,000 that he buys from johns auto parts in blaine.
I own a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo and in the past I guess around 6 months it has been parked because noone can figure out what the problem is. The vehicle used to be so dependable and then one day it wouldn't start after I drove it about 15 minutes and shut it off,but I could let it sit for about 20 to 30 minutes and it would start right up. After a few weeks I couldn't drive it anymore because it was stalling more often and I never knew when it was gonna start or not. I had it put on the computer at advance and they mention the number 3 not firing but noone can figure out why my very dependable vehicle all of a sudden was very dangerous. Please help me if u can,I am a single mother with no transportation. I have been reading entries by other Jeep owners and I have a little hope since alot of them are having the same problem.
I purchased this Jeep and not even a month after having it cut off with driving down the road. It will say I have no gas and the tank will be full. At times it would start other times it had to be towed (3 times in fact). This has happened 5 or 6 times at all different speeds. I took it to a dealership 450. 00 later still had the problem. This is very scary for the Jeep to shut off while driving. I have two small children. I am wondering how is there not recall for this. As I have read clearly this is not just my Jeep. This is a huge safety concern. Another thing I also notice I can hit a bump then it beeps and tells me my hood is open. Which it is not. I love my Jeep but cant enjoy it bc scared that it will cut off at anytime.
Rear lights (brake and park) stopped working.
Intermittent stalling problem when moving, very dangerous, about rear ended numerous times. Dealer can not fix, just throw money at it in parts hoping to fix the problem. This needs to be addressed by Jeep before someone is killed!!!!!!!!.
My truck back lights doesn't work when I turn my lights on. I called the dealership and they stated that it will cost $1000 to fix because it is an electrical problem. I really like my truck and would love for to keep it but I can not drive it at night. I have seen to many cars to explain in the atlanta area that are experiencing the same problems, and I do not think that it is fair that we pay our money for these cars and the dealer doesn't inform to us that there needs to be a recall on our vehicles and fix them, my husband has a Ford truck and when they recalled something on his truck and they called him and sent him a letter and he took his truck and they fixed it with no problems I don't understand why it can't be the same way with Jeep. Please if you can help please do.
My 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited just started having a problem with the air bag light and chime when steering wheel is turned. And it sounds like a very common problem with many people. This problem may or may not have caused an injury but what is it going to take to keep your loyal Jeep customers from thinking that this company does not care about it customers safety! this safety problem should be recalled and done very soon before there are injuries or loyal customers deaths from a simple fix.
I have a 1999 Grand Cherokee, the headlights flash on and off when the car is parked and shut off.
When I turned on the heat one fall day I got hot air on the driver side and cold air on the passenger side. It doesn't matter whether I select defrost, floor, or mid-level vents. Also I had the temperature settings on high. I have not repaired this yet, it is a safety issue due to difficulty defrosting the windshield. The dealership said it will be very costly. It is not intermittent because it is always failed.
The contact owns a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving, the headlight was turned on the light was diffused by the headlight lens. The contact stated that the lighting visibility was decreased. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the headlight globe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 09e025000 (exterior lighting:headlights). The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. I have had the vehicle since it had 29,000 miles and it now has approx. 81,000. I have replaced three of the five locking mechanisms on the vehicle and now have two more that need replacing. This is not acceptable. The door locks allow for me to open the corresponding door or rear hatch sometimes but most of the time do not allow me to open the door or rear tailgate at all. When the rear tailgate lock is allowing for me to open the rear tailgate it will not lock at all. My vehicle has sat in my driveway every night without anyway for me to lock it. When it is stuck in the locked position it will not open because there is no way for me to manually open the rear tailgate. When the driver side lock went out it locked me out of the vehicle because there is some type of electrical drain on the vehicle as well, the key less entry fob could obviously not unlock the other doors. This is just one of the frustrating issues that I have had with the locking mechanisms on my vehicle. I was told by the dealership that it would cost approx. $250 per door in locking mechanisms alone to get replaced this time! I am pissed off and at a loss. I have replaced these locks before and it should never be an issue for me the entire life that I own this vehicle, especially not this many times. I may have the previously repaired items for review. Please help me find some type of solution to this problem since I am out of money and out of patience. Thank you.
Ac blend doors don't work causing my heat/ac to only work on have the car at a time. In the winter my defroster is only able to defrost half my windshield and the other side has ice cold air coming out the vent witch makes it unable to defrost and causes me to drive with half a defrosted windshield. So half the car gets heat the other half gets ac all winter long no matter what setting you put the system on, this will eventually cause a accident if not addressed.
I have a 1999 Jeep cherokee, it have so many problems and not safe to drive, and it could not start. Please investigate and help. Thanks.
The taillight and brake lights on our 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee burn out every 2 months. The light holder for the bulbs melts due to the heat from the bulbs and after replacing the bulbs four times the holder has melted enough that there is no contact with the bulbs thus no taillights or brake lights. I have noticed this problem with several of the same models around town. The dealer is willing to sell a new light fixture for $150. 00 plus labor. If I pay this just to have the same problem happen again within a year this is not right. Today I read where gm recalled 1mil SUV for this very problem.
- the contact stated that the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokees heater and air conditioner were not operating normally. Then she smelled smoke when the heat was on, and was afraid that vehicle may catch on fire. This only occurred when the heat was on high. The blower motor and the harness have been replaced. The dealer replaced the blower motor resistor. Update 04/30/tr.
Whenever the headlights were in use the switch failed to work properly for either turning the headlights on or off. The head lights would also flash on and off intermittently while driving. This caused poor visibility for the driver. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the technician was unable to resolve the electrical problem.
The driver side door did not lock with the automatic locking system.
The air bag light was intermittent. The passenger side window and the driver side lock assembly was inoperative. The dealer was not willing to do anything to help. Scc.
While driving on the NJ trnpke, the vehicle lost power and coasted towards the shoulder. Driver pulled over, and opened the hood, and didn't notice anything. While on the ramp, the vehicle started smoking and the thermometer gauge had begun to rise. The vehicle then bursted into flames . The consumer states that as they got on the ramp, a passing driver waved, and the consumer looked in the rear view mirror and saw the smoke coming from the engine compartment, possible ecectrical system failure.
The entire electrical system has to be replaced. Nothing works. Not the windows, the locks, the alarm, nothing! this is the 2nd time for the windows. 1st time was when it was 4 mths old. The engine stalls frequently and jerks on the highway. It often shifts to overdrive for no apparant reason and makes a lot of funny sounds. I've been to the dealer numerous times, each time they have an "OH well, it's still under warranty, just deal with it" attitude. Now, b/c I live in the atlanta area, there's a lot of miles on it, but when I first complained there wasn't many at all. This is ridiculous. One thing that I've done and I encourage others to do, since I can't get satisfaction or assistance from the dealers or manufacturer. . . I've written, in big bold letters (w/window paint) on my windows, all the things that are wrong with it, and I strongly urge others not to buy a Jeep. . . Aka. . . A lemon! this is ridiculous. . . Something should be done about consumer rip-offs!.
The rotors get warped after 3000 miles they fixed it 5 times and it is continuing again, I had the fuel pump replaced, the transmission slips forward after braking they clame that is normal, I had numerous electrical problems ( windows are not closing, radio, etc.
