1 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2008

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee is having problems like many other people. The low coolant light constantly comes on and I have to add coolant weekly, although there is no visible leak. Mechanics have told me they cannot find the problem until this past week when a mechanic told me the coolant was leaking into my engine and mixing with my oil. The mechanic estimated I will need a completely new engine within a few months since the coolant-oil mixture has been running through my engine for some time now. The mechanic stated that the engine will stop running in the very near future. My rear left brake and tail light goes out when I step on the brakes. I have had several issues with the rotors and finally had the mechanic replace them with a different kind.

2 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2007

I purchased a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2005 from a used car dealer in albuquerque. At that time no recalls or repairs of any safety related defects were revealed to me. I received a recall in novenber 2006 for cooling fan that I had already had done . Daimler/Chrysler reimbursed me for some of the repairs done. On 4-17-07 I was north bound on unser approaching ladera, traffic was stopped at the red light. I was traveling the speed limit which was posted at 35 mph. I pressed on the brake pedal to begin slowing down and nothing happened. I then slammed my foot down on the pedal it went to the floor and I rear ended a large pickup at the intersection. The air bags did not deploy, and I did not think the seat belt engaged untill I hit the steering wheel with my sternum. My injuries were minor, and I elt the injuries of the person I hit were also minor. The reason I believed thiswas so because I was knocked unconsicience. After some advice from an attourney I checked online for any safty related recalls on the vehicle. I was not surprised to find many. Recall # 200002004 was a seat belt recall, recall # 20060313 was a brake system recall, and recall # 19991202 was a air bag recall. There were many more I am sure you were aware off. My concern was for anybody else thatwas driving one of these vehicles with their families in the car. If my wife or daughter had been in the vehicle with me I am sure their injuries would have been more severe. Please look into this vehicle, it was not safe.

3 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2004

Defective brakes on Jeep Grand Cherokee. Brake rotors apparently warp from heat. My wife owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and we have had to replace the brakes three times already. There are many owners of Grand Cherokees that have had similar problems with brakes. Chrysler refuses to admit there is a problem, and refuses to address this problem even when a vehicle is under warranty. Dealers are blaming drivers for the problem.

While driving at 60 mphn vehicle vibrated when brakes were applied.

5 Brake Electric Antilock problem

6 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2004

The brakes on my vehicle have to be consistently repaired. I have brought the vehicle to the dealer three times and the Jeep only has 45,000 miles. I have another Jeep that has also been brought in three times and it has less than 25,000 miles. All for bad brakes which I'm consistently told , " is a known defect" by Chrysler and the technical staff.

7 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2003

The entire vehicle shutters violently when the brakes are depressed at speeds in excess of 30mph. Brakes have been fixed(?) several times but it only lasts ~5,000 to 7,000miles before it starts up again. It is particularly dangerous when exiting the freeway when the vehicle shakes badly and the steering wheel jolts side to side. Dealer contacted and state it will be ~$600 dollars in parts/labor. This is a known problem with the Jeeps from 1999 to June of 2002 according to the dealer and I've read TSB's referring to the issue yet there is still no recall.

8 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2003

Steering wheel shakes violently when applying brakes above 50 mph. Dealer reground rotors twice, but the problem always came back within a day or two.

9 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2002

While driving applied brakes and they didn't hold, pedal went all the way to the floor, resulting in vehicle running into a tree.

10 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2002

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee VIN 1j4gw58n1yc310169 at approximately. 15,000 miles: front brake rotors warped resulting in a severe shimmy/jerking of the front tires which resulted in pulling the car off the road. Dealer said tough luck, expense included rotor repair and damaged front tires. Now at 40. 000 miles problem appears to be returning. Based on previous recalls, talking to dealers, brake repair shops and reading many similar complaints on the internet as well as our local school van traveling with students having a wreck because of rotor failure, it is more than obvious that there is a known serious problem with inferior/unsafe brake rotors. Like most americans, I have been exposed to stories of how the auto manufactures are knowingly willing to trade a few hundred lives to avoid the expense of recalls and building cars with safe components. It doesn't take a real bright person to know that when the steering and braking system on a car fails while traveling at normal speeds and in my case on treacherous mountain roads that serious accidents may and will result. My goal is to have this problem addressed by daimler Chrysler and industry-wide before, not after, the body counts start adding up. I have been in contact with daimler Chrysler and was basically told where to stick my concerns and complaint. Any assistance will be appreciated by me and I suspect by other potential victims. Sincerely, gary shaw.

11 Brake Electric Antilock problem

12 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2001

15 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2001

Brakes were a constant problem that began at 80,00 miles. Rotors have been replaced every 8000 miles. Dealer reported it was a wear and tear issue. Vehicle was regularly serviced. Brakes began showing a wearing problem. Rotors become warped and w-wheel anti lock brakes becamee defective. Happened while driving in all weather conditions.

16 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2001

I have contacted Jeep via 1-800-992-1997 3 times and left messages with erin @ x7110. She returned the first call but I was unavailable. The second call was disconnected and she did not return the call again. The third message has not been returned. Jeep has refused to help me in any way and I am trying to see what avenues I have through the government. I would appreciate someone from the NHTSA contacting me about what protection under the law I have. I am willing to work with Jeep but they are not willing to work with me. It takes an average of 30 minutes just to get through to their 800 number and the person who is handling my account is never available when I call. I would appreciate some help. No safety defect listed.

23 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2000

After owning this vehicle for just over 19 months, we have had to have the main computer replaced as well as new front brake rotors 2 times. The first time we had to replace the rotors we had owned the car for a little over a year. Now, the second time we're replacing the rotors after only 7 months. The brake rotors warp and cause sever "shimmying" while braking, this leads to less control of the vehicle and delayed stopping. This problem causes a hazard to both the passengers of the defective vehicle and to those driving around it. These vehicles need to be recalled and the defect needs to be corrected right. Thank you for your time and your help.

24 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2000

When applying brakes at any speed vehicle vibrates and is very noisy. Dealer informed consumer theat computer was malfunctioning, and to drive slowly until he could get the part. Consumer has been back to dealer 3 times. Dealer said he was still waiting for parts, did not specify.

The first week I owned my brand new vehicle, it started clunking and jerking. Several weeks later, they replaced the drive shaft. I continue to have similar and other problems with the transmission, gear shifting, brakes, etc. . . I inquired of the dealership whether or not there were any reported manufacturers defects and they said no. They lied.

27 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 11/12/1999

Continual problem with brakes. Warped rotors, numerous pad replacement, problem causes severe vibration when braking, and causes vehicle to jerk. Also now is shifting after coming to a stop while in drive, feels like vehicle has been hit in rear.

28 Brake Electric Antilock problem

When applying abs brakes to slow down or to stop while on a rough road, brakes would lock up , and rotors would shimmy. Took vehicle to mechanic, and informed consumer rotors needed to be turned. If rotors become hot, and go through water, they would become warped.

29 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Shuttering and poor vehicle control at 70 mph slow down to full braking. This is an ongoing problem. The rotors have been turned, and now need to be replaced at 38,000 miles. I think that after reading all the complaints on brakes for this vehicle, that this problem needs some attention.

30 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Sevre brake shudder when slowing from highway speeds. Brakes pulsate when applied on in town driving. We own 2, Jeep Grand Cherokees and have the same problem with both vehicles. Parts were backordered which indicates the demand is greater than the supply. I believe Chrysler knows they have a problem but are failing to consider the safety of consumers. We contacted Chrysler to see if we could get them warrantied. One they did the other they denied. This is our 3rd Jeep purchase. We really do like the vehicles but if we can't get some satisfaction it may very well be the last ones we buy.

31 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Whenever pushing on abs braking system, they would fail to engage. Would be vibrating. Aluminum rims were cracked. When shifting into 4-wheel drive would smell something burning. Taking vehicle to dealership. Also, the transmission failed to shift correctly.
