Seat Broken problems of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee - part 1

The motors on the front seats were broken when I bought it, and I noticed that the driver's seat seemed wobbly. Shortly after purchasing the Jeep the driver's seat brackets got worse, shifting when I got in and recently broke through. After the bracket broke, the airbag warning light began going off when I go around a corner or curve and the seat shifts. Began researching and found this was a common problem with many thousands of complaints. I've left instructions with my family to sue Jeep if I die or get seriously injured in an accident because I can't afford to buy a different car and can't sell this Jeep with a broken front seat.

I was driving down the road at about 40 mph and my seat started to wobble. I stopped the vehicle and looked at the seat. The seat bracket had broken. There was no known strain on the seat and no accident. I,m still at work so I havent been able to try and find replacement parts yet. A few months ago a coworker with the same vehicle had his seat break completely and he ended up laying down in the car.

Two days later my bothers driver seat broke. I did some research online and this is a systemic problem. I am even considering legal action. I could have died, try to explain that to my wife that I died because the driver seat broke.

Seat brackets under driver seat have broken, which causes seat to move when going around bends, getting in and out of seat. The way the bracket has broken, the seat can physically be lifted up off the floor. We removed the seat, there is only 1 of the 4 brackets not broken, so if the last one would break the seat could tip over or fall backwards or forwards. If you would go around a bend, you would either hit up against the door or against the console depending on which direction you turn. If you would have to slam on the brakes the seat would fly forward into the steering wheel. We have fixed the seat once by rewelding the brackets, and they broke again, so we now have completely replaced the seat with a seat from a different Jeep. After the initial repair, it took about a year for it to break again.

The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While the contact was driving approximately 35 mph, approaching a traffic stop signal, the front driver seat abruptly moved in the backward position without assistance. The vehicle was driven to the side of the road and inspected. The contact stated an unknown part disengaged underneath of the seat. The vehicle resumed with caution. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000. Updated 02/03/lj the consumer stated the front driver's side seat broke. The steel bracket which attached the seat to the frame snapped and broke. Updated 03/17/11.

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee which I've had for about 7 years now. About 6 months ago, the bracket on my drivers side front seat broke. I replaced it and about two months later the metal seat frame on the same side broke and I'm in the process of looking for replacement. Apparently from what I've gathered online through numerous website, this is a very common problem with the Jeep. Poor quality. . . Very unsafe.

I own a 2000 Grand Cherokee laredo. The drivers side seat is broken and wobbling. I had it welded by a mechanic about a year ago and now it is completely broken off the frame and I am unable to drive it due to the extreme lack of safety. I saw many, many complaints exactly the same for this car online. When is Chrysler going to be held accountable for this?.

While braking to avoid a collision with another vehicle the mounting brackets on my driver seat broke, sending me forward into the steering wheel. At this time that problem has not been fixed although I have an appointment to have the seat looked at. The seat mountings and supports are visibly cracked in two places and the entire seat rocks back and forth.

This vehicle did much like the previous owner's complaint's with the driver's seat. I had pulled in to a parking space and the seat just collapsed. I'm fortunate that I wasn't driving but trying to park. Why haven't NHTSA entered a recall on this??? I'm trying to get the seat welded as I can't afford to buy another seat or another vehicle. This is a very dangerous situation that needs to be addressed. As long as I've owned cars I've never experienced any seat just breaking apart like this one did. Someone will get killed if this happens while driving. The frame shouldn't give way like this. It must be failure on the type of steel that is being used on the frames.

Driver's seat frame broke in several places: all four "legs" as well as cross-member in small of back. Metal snapped through completely rending the seat first wobbly, then twisted and bent, then finally completely detached from car.

The driver's seat on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee started squeaking a few weeks ago, and the other day the entire seat bracket broke while I was going around a corner at speed (within the speed limit). When the seat bracket broke, the entire seat (with me in it) abruptly leaned to the side and I momentarily lost control of the vehicle and dented the side of the car on a guardrail. I have contacted a Jeep dealer, and I am told this is a very common problem and the seat repair is close to $1000!! furthermore, they do not have the parts in stock and I am required to pay for the parts in advance for them to order them. This is ridiculous - the failure is a serious safety hazard, it has happened to thousands of other Jeep Grand Cherokee owners, and I'm sure it has resulted in accidents and, possibly, loss of life. What can you do to help start the process of getting a safety recall issued?.

Today, the mounting rails for the drivers seat have broken (the rivets pulled through the cheap metal rails). Seat is secured at two points now instead of 4, and swaying and clicking a lot. Began with clicking and squeaking about 2 months ago but couldn't see anything wrong.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo - driver's side seat has broken in 4 places. . . 2 bolts in front have worn through the track and 2 rear brackets have simply snapped. The seat is now completely loose. The incident appears to have happened over time without my knowledge, but I recently felt a snap and my entire seat was displaced. . . While driving in traffic on a state highway. This is poor engineering, poor craftsmanship, and entirely unsafe.

Drivers side seat bracket at base of seat broke, the seat is no longer stable, if involved in an accident the seat and seatbelt combination could prove more dangerous than the accident itself, if the bracket breaks all the way while driving this could cause a major accident!! I am just learning that this is a common problem. This needs a recall, very dangerous!!!.

I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I bought in August 2009, this is my second Jeep of this make and model and I have had the same issue with both, my drivers seat is broke. I am a mother of 2 small kids and find this is very dangerous. I looked on line and found that many other people with the same Jeep have broken seats as well. This seems to be a big issue and I feel this should be a recall on this year Jeep. These seats need to be fixed.

1. Sat on drivers seat of 2000 Grand Cherokee laredo 2. Drivers seat frame broke. Upon inspection 4 weld points had broken and metal was fatigued. Average person weight is ~200 lbs (not excessive). 3. Re-welded frame after replacement couldn't be found at salvage yards due apparently to the same failure. I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. The front passenger seat has broken free from it's tracks 3 times. This is not the first repair I have had to make. The back frame of the driver seat snapped when I hit the brakes and almost broke my back. This is an outrage, as many Jeep owners are experiencing the same problem. Is it going to take a death to fix a few hundred thousand dollars worth of collective defects? the government bailed them out, why not put some of that money to good use instead of Chrysler execs pockets!!!.

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a broken driver's seat. I hae never had this problem before and have noticed its a big problem with alot of these cars. Very dangerous driving condition with a broken seat cause it moves off the tracking deivice.

The frame on the driver's seat broke through in 2 places under normal use, making it a safety hazard. Currently debating repair route.

Frame to driver's seat is broken. The seat is now apparently out of the track and cannot be adjusted with the temporary fix in place. Seat is now tilted at an angle, and moves when vehicle is in motion, making it an unsafe position for the driver to be in.

Driver seat frame broken. Regular driving just snaped temporary fix with a c clamp. Not safe, what good is having a seat belt on if your seat is not secure?.
