4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2014

The truck seems to have lost power to drive and also to provide proper to the radio which goes in and out. While driving there was no engine light that came on and the truck started hesitating to keep going. At 0 to 40mph it was acting like it wanted to shut off but as I gave it more gas it seemed to get better and the music came in clearer but then it would jerk like it was going to shut down. I have had the starter, alternator, engine and spark plugs changed and checked but it still is doing the same thing. This is unsafe with my kids in the car and no warning light to say that anything is wrong. This needs to be addressed I've seen too many trucks with similar issues like mines.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2008

Unexpected acceleration of 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo from a stop position with horse trailer attached almost cost serious injury to life and property damage. Vehicle was in stopped position. Foot was on brake pedal. Car revved up on it's own and pushed vehicle and horse trailer 5-6 foot in reverse -- although brake pedal was being depressed (I was almost standing on it). I read over the internet that this is a somehow common occurrence and wanted to report it as well.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2006

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee also has the acceleration problem (without notice) when shifting from or to park. I've had a dozen instances including some while stopped behind other vehicles at a red light and when I take my foot off the brake the car wants to surge forward. I've taken to staying back a bit further in those instances. I instruct my wife and son to do the same when driving my vehicle.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2004

When coming to a stop engine revved and consumer lost control of vehicle.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2004

While pulling into a parking space vehicle surged forward while the consumer was depressing the brakes. Vehicle jumped the curb and collided with a tree. There were no injuries involved.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2003

I was pulling into a parking place at work. I had just turned left into the parking lot and had applied the brake to slow. I moved about five parking spots up and applying my brake again turned into the parking. During this time I had not taken my foot off of the brake pedal, only decreased the pressure. When I applied pressure to come to a full stop the car suddenly sounded like a jet engine and took off, going through a brick wall, traveling across about twelve to twenty feet of yard and plowed into the side of a house. I know that my foot was firmly on the brake and not near the accelerator pedal. Needless to say I am extremely afraid to drive this car. I had purchased this 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee from a Chrysler dealer on April 16, 2003 and for the first six months had no problems with the vehicle.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2003

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee v8 - engine stalls out intermittently while driving. This happens more frequently in colder weather (50 - 70 degrees f), but also happens after the engine is hot. Stalls when foot is off the gas and slowing down, braking, etc. It usually starts right back up. This is dangerous because the vehicle is extremely difficult to steer without power. The vehicle has been one chyysler dealer 3 times concerning this issue, another Chrysler dealer one time, and a private certified mechanic. None have been able to fix the problem. The engine light does not turn on when it stalls. No diagnostic codes are stored in the Jeep's computer other than the number of times it was restarted. Since the problem is intermittent, the mechanics are unable to correctly diagnose the problem and determine if it has been repaired, but they remain capable of charging lots of money for replacing plenum seals, checking the idle, flushing the transmission, cleaning fuel filters, testing time, replacing the pcv valve, and more. The car stalls an average of once every 10 miles, less if I drive with two feet, keeping pressure on the throttle.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2003

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalls at stop lights and in stop and go traffic. Also accelerates on its own at stops. . Very dangerous. When it happens it also lunges forward while driving, and steering will lock up.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2002

Vehicle went into full throttle reverse as it was shifted out of "park". Vehicle is equipped with a brake interlock that prevents shifting out of park without brake being applied. Vehicle left rubber marks from all four wheels for several feet before I was able to being it under control. Application of both feet to brake pedal didn't stop the acceleration and problem vanished as quickly as it appeared. All indications nominal after the event, but am now very concerned of personal liability in the event of an injury. This is a very dangerous situation and I can say with absolute certainty that the accelerator was not touched. One other detail I might mention is that as I was engaging the brake pedal to shift into reverse, something registered that the pedal "felt funny". I've attempted to recreate the problem. . . Using the brake with the engine off to remove any vacuum assist, then starting. . . Normal shifts from park to reverse. . . Nothing. My profession and training allows me to be somewhat objective in this matter. I have to assume that somehow the pedal "feeling" for the brakes and the instant throttle increase are related. Since there is no mechanical connection, it would lead me down the path of an electronics malfunction. I will inform Chrysler and the dealer as soon as business hours start on Monday, but I write this in case I am the "victim" of a similar event before the vehicle is repaired.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Consumer returned with foot on the brake pedal, released the parking brake, put the vehicle in reverse gear. Wihtout touching the accelerator, the vehicle moved backwards two car lengths. Suddenly with out consumers assistance, the vehicle revved and accelerated with full power. Consumer had his foot pressed hard on the brake pedal, but the vehicle kept moving. 21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2001

My husband was backing the Jeep out of the driveway. Once the Jeep was put in drive it accelerated without touching the gas pedal. It took my husband to put both feet on the brake to stop and place the Jeep in park. When the engine stopped reving he was able to put the Jeep in drive and proceed down the driveway. He drove about 15 feet and the Jeep stalled. Now I drive this Jeep on average about 800 miles per week. I did take the Jeep over to Chrysler to have them look at it. I told them what happened and left my Jeep there. I received a call about 5 hours later stating that the Jeep was ready to be picked up and was also told that they found nothing wrong with the Jeep. They were not able to give me any type of explanantion of why this happened. I do not want this to happen while I am driving, I don't think I would be able to stop the Jeep like my husband did. I am afraid that I will run off the road or smash into something. I did read about another person on your site who had a similiar problem. This is serious and people can be killed due to this problem. I hope their is something that can be done. Thank you.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2001

The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. The contact stated that the vehicle accelerates by itself and makes a strange noise in the transmission box. The vehicle has been in and out of the shop since the date of purchase, with repair costs exceeding $4,000. The dealer stated that even though there are recalls, her VIN is not included. The dealer changed her fuel injector system, which caused her to be involved in a crash and also receive speeding tickets. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle shut off on the freeway and almost caused another vehicle to run over her. The contact stated that it takes approximately fifteen minutes to start the vehicle. She took it back to the dealer after the most recent failure and they stated that she would need another fuel pump. She called daimler Chrysler who stated that she needed to take her vehicle back to the dealer. Chrysler stated that they would replace the parts of her vehicle at no cost. When she took her vehicle back to the dealer, they stated that the representative from Chrysler gave her the wrong information and that her vehicle was out of warranty. The contact stated that her vehicle has not been driven since due to the previous crash and failures. The dealer and the contact have all of the repair documentation. A police report was filed for the speeding tickets. The current mileage is 99,000 and failure mileage was 30,000.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2000

I picked up my vehicle during lunch and noticed the noise en route to airport (travel for work). 72 hours had lapsed before my return date. The car kept making a "revving" noise and ticked/clicked if I did not push the gas pedal down to accelerate quickly. It still makes that noise and the transmission (I was told by a non Jeep mechanic) sounds like it is winding up fast even though the car is moving slow (like a 10 speed bicycle does when you have the gears adjusted incorrectly). I called the dealership when I returned and I was told that I needed to break in the vehicle because it had less than 100 miles. I also reported the noise on two occasions to a dealership in new britain,CT when getting mfg suggested service (documented on their svc forms). The 4 wheel drive gear also was stuck but loosened up after several uses.

The speed control will not hold a consistant speed, it will slowly drop in speed on level ground, down hill, and up hill. When the speed drops to a certain level the transmission will shift to a lower gear and then founder some more. The dealership doesn't seem to be able to find anything wrong with the unit from their computer checking. I have been to the dealership 4 times with no luck.
