1 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2010

2001 Jeep cherokee rotors and pads have been replaced every year in the last 3 we owned it. This year I will have to do it twice. Never buy Chrysler again, they have issues with a product and don't attempt any solutions to fix them. Brakes pulse very bad, very bad while braking and they are fine for the first 90 days of the repair but then go bad again. I believe while braking in rain or wet conditions warping occurs and once again the vibration comes back. I purchased high performance rotors and pads and at the same time as factory rotors and pads the same thing occurred again. Recommendations: don't drive in wet conditions and get rid of truck, they say buy american but why???? poor workmanship and ignorance of the danger that could come of this shows they have no concerns for the american consumer so why should I have concerns for a business that is suppose to be a staple in the american economy. Our government bailed them out. . . I bailed them out and this is the thanks I received, new rotors and pads at my expense. I hope they fold so that the product the bear their name to does not injury or cause death to people that hold trust in them. My only hope is that they close the doors on this company forever so that people can once again be proud of american products. Signed, a very disappointed american consumer.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2006

Rotors, calipers and brakes need cut or replaced anywhere from 1 to 4,000 miles. As of this date, this is my 7th time! a pulsation in braking. . . The manufacturer has replaced or cut the rotors 6 times, the drive once, the calipers once and the brakes one or two times. . . I went to an independent on 11-29-06 and had 2 rotors replaced, 2 resurfaced/cut and brakes replaced with 26,500 miles on vehicle. A 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2006

: the contact stated while applying brake pressure the front of the vehicle the steering wheel and the brake pedal vibrated. The dealership replaced or resurfaced the rotors and replaced the pads three times. The repairs temporarily solved the problem, but it recurred. The local dealer is unwilling to complete further repairs.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2004

While driving, the driver noticed that the vehicle would vibrate uncontrollably without warning. The driver was able to drive it to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the brake pads, and rotor needed to be replaced due to corrosion. Consumer informed mechanic that this problem happened on more than one occasion.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2004

I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo 6cyl. At approx 27,000 I experienced a vibration/pulsation when the brakes were applied. I took it into the dealer for diagnosis and was informed that the front pads were worn out and the rotors were out of round and needed turning. I had that work performed with dismay that every 27,000 miles that would need to be done. It is now 48,000 miles (21,000 later) and the same problem has occurred. According to Jeep a revised brake caliper design has been built to correct the problem. As of this last changing (using the new rotors and calipers per TSB 05-003-02b) I will have spent $700 in less than 2 years on brakes that should not have worn out once inl 50,000. I was informed that this replacement was not covered under warranty, but being that it is premature failure of a poor design, I believe that it should be.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2004

While driving at any speed and when the brakes were applied there was severe vibration in the brake pedal and steering wheel. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the rotors and the brake pads twice. A technical service bulletin was issued concerning this problem. The consumer stated that the disc were too close to the rotors which caused the excessive heat. The excessive heat caused the rotors to warp.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2003

While applying brakes vehiclem shutters violently. It is hard to control vehicle.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2003

Like many other jgc owners, I also had the rotors and pads replaced after 6000 miles and I need to have them replaced again after 17000 miles. I've had this car for just over two years and I cant imagine any style of driving that would require a new set of brakes every 10,000 miles.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2003

Dealer replaced rotors and pads last year. Again needed to replace rotors. And pads. Consumer states there is a technical service bulletins on this issue.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2003

I took vehicle in to be checked out for extreme front end vibration while braking and vibration in the steering wheel. I was told that it was caused by the brakes, and that I would need to replace the front rotors/calipers and pads. The dealer informed me that Chrysler knew about this problem, and that it happened often on this vehicle. I was also told that even though this make and model was notorious for this problem that Chrysler had only put out service bulletins on this problem and not any recall. I was informed that even though there was extreme front end vibration and vibration in the steering that Chrysler did not consider it to be any type of safety issue. With all the complaints regarding this Chrysler should be biting the corporate bullet, and finally issue the recall to their consumers that they should have done over a year ago for their own design flaw.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2003

12 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2003

Brake rotors were done at 12,000 miles, and again at 31,000 pads/ rotors to the front and rear.

13 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2003

Rotors and front brakes were replaced at 28,000 miles. The first time was April 2003, and in second time July 2004. The problem had not been resolved.

14 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2002

The brake rotors have been replaced/resurfaced three times. The pads have been replaced, and they still do not stop the vehicle the way they should. The manufacturer offered no help, and the dealers have done all they could do. The rotor become warped and the vehicle would shake violently at 50-60 mph. The consumer was made aware that there were many 2001 Jeeps with this same problem. The brakes pulsate when stopping, the vehicle pulled slightly to the left and when hitting bumps, the leaking front steering damper was replaced and both front rotors were resurfaced.

15 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2002

My complaint has been filed with daimler-Chrysler, their file reference is 9879536. The brake rotors were replaced at about 14,000 miles due to warpage. The same condition has recurred now at 30,120 miles (I. E. , the new rotors have about 16,000 miles on them. The dealer says that Jeep uses a poor quality product from their supplier. While the warranty is 12,000 miles, the rotors meet that minimum. However, other manufacturers apply a 36,000 mile warranty on their brake systems with their rotors not warping at all, even beyond their warranty period. For example, my brothers Ford f150 has over 70,000 on the original brakes & pads, with about 1/4 " pad remaining. . . And no warpage, nor "skewing" on the rotors. It is my feeling that Jeep has a potentially dangerous brake system on the road. Furthermore, since the other 19 NHTSA reports that I've read have no accidents or property losses, there has been no affirmative action taken on Jeep. Nevertheless, if Jeep wants to cut costs, don't do it with a critical safety system like the brakes. Their rotors just barely last through the warranty period. But just wait until there is a death due to the failed brakes. I'm most disappointed in daimler and Chrysler.

16 Brake Disc Pads problem

When the brake pedal was applied, the steering wheel vibrated and the brake pedal pulsated. This was caused by premature brake wear. This occurred at 7000 miles. The dealership replaced the brake pad and turned the rotors. The brakes wore again at 12,400 miles. The dealership replaced the pads with a special type of pad and turned the rotors. The problem recurred at 26,000 miles.
