I was driving in a mall parking lot looking for a parking space. I was turning the corner to go down the next aisle and all of a sudden I had no control of the Jeep. As I turned to the left to continue looking for a park, the Jeep was speeding out of control and I was slamming on the brake with both feet and the Jeep just kept accelerating! I was unable to steer away from the vehicles I was heading towards. As I was heading towards the first vehicle that I hit, I was trying to steer away from it and then the Jeep turned to the right and kept accelerating. I ended up hitting four other vehicles ( 5 vehicles total) and finally came to a complete stop after hitting the last vehicle. There is extensive damage to my Jeep and to the other vehicles involved. We have not had the damage accessed yet, so we do not know how much this will cost to fix. I believe my Jeep is totaled. We are thankful nobody was injured and that I am ok, just shaken up a little.
Bought new 2001 Grand Cherokee limited. Currently at 84,000 miles. I have had to replace the front brakes and rotors at least 6 times. Like all the other complaints from Jeep owners, the brakes wobble when applied after about 3-5 thousand miles. Three sets were replaced under warranty. Also as I have read many others complaining about, the driver and passenger side front windows have fallen out. When we complained to the dealership about the car being a lemon, they said it did not apply since they repaired the problem. All they did was prolong the problem by replacing parts until the warranty expired. The date below is the most recent, but has been ongoing since purchase.
Vents in my Grand Cherokee started blowwing uncontrolable air, and brakes have warped every 15,000 miles.
Driving down main street and it was dry road conditions and went to apply brakes and pedal would not engage at time. Had in past pulsing pedal, but no brakes at all this time resulting in a rearend collision with the car that had stopped in front of me.
: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the vehicle pulsated, when the brake pedal was depressed. It was taken to the dealer on several occasions, where different parts of the brakes were replaced however; the problem recurred.
: the contact stated while applying brake pressure at high speeds, there was a pulsation and an increased stopping distance. The vehicle was seen by a dealer and the rotors were replaced. Afterwards, the brake pulsation continued to persist.
Vehicle shakes when trying to break again. Took in for service and told they had safety notice that the brakes and rotors were to be replaced. New mfg on the rotors, since they were having a problem. Brakes and rotors replaced when 2 yrs in services with about 9k. 3 yrs later (29k per dealer) rotors need to be cut due to warping again. In 2003 was told when they changed the metal rotors, I should not have the problem again. Now the vehicle is out of warranty and rotors are warped.
While braking vehicle experienced extended stopping distance, and the steering wheel vibrated. Dealerships mechanic repaired this problem six times, but the consumer was still having the same problems.
I am the original owner of a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. At 24k miles, the brakes vibrated so bad that I had to apply significant force to the steering wheel to maintain safe braking. My Jeep dealer told me I had to have the entire brake system redone-and I did- $600+ bill. Now 10k miles later, the brakes are again pulsing. The dealer now says the rotors need to be resurface-same ones they replaced 10k miles ago and that this isn't covered under warranty. What is going on? why no recall? does someone need to get hurt in an accident?.
The steering wheel shook when the brakes were applied. The dealer was notified.
Car shaking when applying brakes to the point you cant control it.
The vehicle is "hopping" up to stop signs/stop lights. The steering wheel shudders when applying brakes at 50-60 mph. The differential was faulty from day "one", and has been disassembled and reassembled/ parts replaced up to four times. It will be fine for awhile then the whinnying/whistling/groaning progressively gets worse until I fear for my safety and take it back to the dealer for repair again. I believe this repair is faulty from the factory. ****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12-12-02 cut over to artemis****761448.
Jeep Grand Cherokee owner. Defective brakes cause wheels shaking under routine use making vehicle difficult to control especially while driving at highway speed. Experience terrible shaking of the steering wheel, seats, floor board and instrument pane. When pressing on the brakes.
Consumer states that the brakes on the vehicle are not working properly. Contacted dealer and the dealer is not willing to do anything.
While driving, front brakes started shaking causing an extended stopping distance. Please provide additional information.
Vehicle experienced excessive vibration when brakes are applied. The vehicle had become unstable when braking while on the highway. Slight moderate braking caused the excessive shaking of the steering wheel and intensive vibration on the brake pedal to the point of a lost of control. TSB# 0500501 was performed. The consumer was told he was hard on the brakes. The problem recurred at 21k miles going at a speed of 55 mph.
