Defogger problems of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee - part 2

The heater and defroster have completely malfunctioned. This has caused the vehicle to be unsafe in cold temperatures. Sudden fogging of the windshield decreases visibility to near zero and forces the driver to pull over and manually wipe the windshield. This is a common problem to this particular vehicle and is very expensive to remedy. The average cost I have been quoted to fix has been 1485. 00. The entire dash, steering wheel, air bags etc. Have to be removed to access the faulty mechanism. I am concerned that if any of these major safety components are damaged or removed/replaced improperly it could lead to a serious injury to the occupants. The cost of the dealer repair will lead some to have these fixed by unqualified technicians and serious safety issues will arise from faulty airbag and steering component replacement.

I have owned five Jeep Grand Cherokees. 1999 - 2002. Everyone of them has had heating cooling blender door failures. There is obviously an improper design for this component. The entire dash has to be removed to repair it at a great expense. One vehicle I had to have done twice in about 4 months time frame.

While using the heat on my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee the passenger side will get cold and no heat will come out from the passenger side vents just cold air. I went to the local Jeep dealer to have the problem diagnosed, and they said that the passenger blend door actuator failed,and were going to charge $1,300. 00 to repair and replace the damaged parts and is not covered under the warranty. I have been doing some research on this part and problem and from just putting the part numbers (#05134349aa auto a/c mid case blend assembly and #05134347aa auto a/c air recirculation assembly) into google it seems to be a common problem with most recent Jeep Grand Cherokees laredo and limited. I have found at least two Jeep forums where this problem is posted. Daimler Chrysler knows about this problem and has issued a technical service bulletin TSB (#24-001-04). I do not see why this has not been an issue of recall or falls under any warranty that is provided by daimler Chrysler.

The defroster system blows only cold air making it difficult(impossible at times) to clear the windshield. This issue occurs repeatedly on cold raining days and makes visibility out the front windshield very poor. This issue could result in a serious traffic accident. The issue is well known in 99-04 Jeep Grand Cherokees with the dual climate control systems. To correct the issue the entire dash, steering wheel, a/c evaporator and heater core must be removed to gain access to the blender doors and recirculation doors which are the cause of the issue. This issue occurs in 100% 99-04 Jeep Grand Cherokees vehicles quipped with the dual climate control system, so the probability of a death(s) occurring due to this defect are extraordinarily high. Please take the appropriate action to protect the public.

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee blowing cold air and making cracking sounds from the dash. Can not at times stop the cold air coming from dash and vents.

2001 Grand Cherokee limited with dual zone climate control. Thanksgiving day, noticed that no heat was coming from passenger side vents. Thermostat was set to 80 degrees. Shut off climate control unit, restarted, no effect. Stopped and shut down car, restarted, no effect. No warm air comes through passenger side vents. Drivers side works fine. Climate control system will not switch between hot and cold air. Driver is comfortable, passenger is miserable when it is cold outside.

After going through some online troubleshooting, I just confirmed that the blend door went bad. And yes it is not one first problem I had with my 2001 limited Grand Cherokee Jeep. 8 months ago the drivers side window regulator broke (as in all Jeeps), my four brake calipers went bad by just replacing the old pads, and now this. One day, the car just started to blow cold air. Before that, I could hear the noises under the dashboard but I thought it was the way it should sound. I had most of the times limited heat in my side and more in the passenger's side. I thought I'm too hot for the car and the sensor just plays with me. But enough is enough. For god sake, how do you want to sell "hardcore" cars, when your cars fail to work under climate garage kept conditions, and driven mostly on a flatland (florida) on road. . . You should be ashamed of your products. You should call the cheap and not Jeep.

Heater malfunctioned on my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It stopped producing heat on both sides of the vehicle, passenger and driver. Thus preventing the defroster to work and leading to zero visibility while driving in the winter. Freezing rain and snow will accumulate on the windshield preventing the driver from seeing the road. Consequently this would cause seriously injuries, possibly death from a crash. Dealer states this is a common problem and is probably a malfunctioning blend door. Due to the location of these blend doors it creates the need to fully remove the dash from the vehicle. Which is very costly for the consumer, costing near $2000. 00 dollars to fix.

I own a Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 2001. The passenger side heat and defroster did not work. The problem most likely happened when the vehicle was still under the extended warranty, but was not discovered until after the warranty expired. The warranty expired sometime in August, and I turned the heat on in September. Chrysler refused to cover any cost of the repair. Also, after researching the issue I found out it was a wide spread problem with the Jeep products. Repair the problem is expensive and risky. Ac/heater not blowing hot air. . Causing window to frost and ice up. . . Not covered under warranty. . . Blend doors. . . . Lots of complaints. . . . Very serious, windshield frosting over when driving!!.

Heater failure causes the windshield to fog over and since there is no heat it won't defog it. This causes me to have to wipe the windshield with my hands/napkins. Could be very dangerous if this happens while driving in traffic or at night.

Description : I own a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with 100,000 miles. The events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of Jeep. Consequently,(1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. To correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. According to the certified service department at the local Jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee limiteds with duel zone ventilation systems.

The hvac system in my vehicle quit supplying heat to the defroster vents and passenger side vents. On cold mornings it was very difficult to clear the moisture and frost from the windshield and windows. Often times I had to drive with them fogged up due to the defroster not working. The cause was determined to be broken blend doors and failed motors inside the hvac system. I had to pay my local dealer $400 to get the problem fixed because I could not drive safely without the defrost working. They had to replace the driver and passenger blend doors and motors and the mode door and motor. The dealer decided to pay for the labor because they knew it was a very common problem. Otherwise it would of cost me $1000 to fix. This failure is very common on the limited and overland (1999-2004) models that have the dual zone hvac system. It is also annoying that the dealers and the manufacture know this is common and don't issue a safety recall.

(1) increasing frequency of defroster/heater/ventilation system malfunction (2) air of the wrong temperature will come from the vents, or more often -and more importantly, no air will come from the vents, including the windshield defroster vents, even though the blower is obviously working. I am often unable to clear windshield of condensation in order see well enough to drive safely. (3) the dealership tells me it will cost $2500. 00 to fix the problem, and I can't afford that. So nothing has been done to fix the problem.

Passenger side digital climate controls do not work. Passenger side ventilation system blows cold air only. Passenger side heated seat doesn't work.

Windows fog up due to failure of hvac system. Failure is caused by a defective part and is noted in Jeep TSB (#24-001-04). Jeep has redesigned the hvac housing. The failure of this part can cause the windows to quickly fog due to the failure of the system to blow air out of the defrost vents. Our failure occurred while driving in the morning. The failed part is a mode door activator (part of the hvac housing). Jeep knows that this part fails and has since redesigned the part. Jeep is letting a known safety defect continue without a recall. Most likely this is due to the high cost of component replacement. Fortunately we did not have a traffic incident.

Like many, the hvac blend and recirculation doors failed prematurely, along with the evaporator core. The fx involved removal of the dash, which will never be right again, and approximately $2000 in repairs.

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with several problems. Consumer states that he has had the heater, power steering pump, brake calipers, and rotors repaired or replaced. Consumer stated rotors were replaced twice after the warranty was up.

Consumer noticed while traveling heat was blowing without any indication that heat changed into cold air. Dealership was contacted, and stated part was on two week back order.
