1 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2020

My interior handles on all 4 doors have been cracked for years but now they are completely crumbled. At first, I had to open the door for passengers in the rear seats, then, whomever was in my passenger seat, they had to wait for me to go around & open the door for them. They could not get out from the inside. It was a hassle but I mostly drive alone, so I tolerated it. As of yesterday, I now have to open my window, (drivers side), to open my door from the outside because it's crack to the point, that I can't open my door from the inside any longer. It's a very unsafe situation. If I was in an accident & needed to get out I wouldn't be able to. Years ago, the Jeep dealership in clearwater, FL. Was going to replace door panels, to replace the handles, but the district mgr that ok'd was transferred & the new district mgr. Refused. This is unacceptable, could be a matter of life & death. I'm hoping & praying you will do something to remedy this. If not, I'm thinking of calling the local news. All 4 interior door opening handles have cracked, broken & crumbled. Door handles are totally inoperable. This is a dangerous safety issue in an emergency situation driver & passengers will not be able to exit the vehicle, causing serious injury or death! manufacturer safety recall warranted!.

6 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2017

The inside plastic around all door handles is cracked and broken. I'm finding this is a common problem and can be dangerous as it effects the handles and being able to get out in case of emergency. I, myself, have problems opening the back doors. And now the passenger front door handle is about to break.

7 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2017

This model Grand Cherokee has the same problem as the 07-and up. The wireless ignition module fails. I have been stranded 5 times, that's 5 tows- the dealership originally thought I was part of that recall, but had to back track. I was told "it's not broken enough" it is the same exact part as the p57 recall for the 07, so why not for the 05? there are numerous complaints from customers regarding this issue and the dealerships telling us to go away after we spend money on parts that are clearly not the issue.

8 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2016

Plastic around the door handle cracked. Handle is dangling. Very dangerous. If the handle snaps my family and I could be trapped in the vehicle. Many complaints on line with same circumstances. There is no recall. Which is ridiculous. Dealer wants 850$ to fix problem. Outrageous. If someone gets trapped in vehicle, someone can die. Thank you, michael burleigh.

9 Carrier/rack problem

The airbag light is on Chrysler says they need to be fixed and do not work also the backing of the door handles have all cracked and broke the doors do not open from the inside due to the backing that holds the door handles together have all cracked and broke.

10 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2016

Front passenger door handle cracked / vech. Has approx 60k miles little use for a 2005.

11 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

All 4 of my interior door handles have cracked around the door handle itself. The plastic supporting the door handles has broken leaving the door handle useless. There have been numerous complaints with the same issue around the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a recall should have been issued. God forbid a fire occurs the passengers in the car would not be able to exit the vehicle from the inside!!!!!.

12 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

I own a garage kept, 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 2wd with approximately 80,000 miles. 3 of the 4 interior door handles are severely cracking making it difficult to open the door. This is a safety concern because once they full break, the door in unable to be opened from the interior. Cost to repair each door is over $800. I contacted Jeep customer support on 6-22-15, but was told this was not a known issue and that there was no assistance they could provide in repairing the door. This is a well documented safety issue and needs to be address so that consumers can get assistance in dealing with the safety problem.

13 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2015

The plastic trim panels on the two passenger doors began to crack mainly around the door handle but in other places also. They cracked so badly that the door handle had nothing to hold on to and just fell off. The passengers can not get out of the car from the inside. This is a major safety concern. I did contact Jeep several times but they are claiming this is not a defect. Perhaps one handle falling off is not a defect but when it happens on multiple handles in the same car ant to multiple owners, it sure seems like a defect to me. Based on information on the internet, this problem is far reaching with the door trim panels on Jeeps.

14 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

The inside of my right rear door cracked all the way in. To replace it they quoted around 600. 00. Which the inside of the door are cheap made. So it's a safety hazard for my passengers.

Was notified by service dept. That the crossmember of the frame that supports the transmission was cracked /broken due to excessive rust and needs to be replaced cost=$800. 00 seems unusual at this time&mileage. Thank you.

16 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2015

Just found this site: same story ¿ 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4. 7 liter v8. Both rear door panels ¿ door handle areas are cracked and broken with pieces missing and the front door panel door handles are showing signs of cracking. Recall is needed for this obvious manufacturing defect.

17 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2015

I was entering a parking lot when I saw another car exiting. I pressed down on the brake and the vehicle went into sudden rapid acceleration. I pushed harder on the brake and the car sped up to at least 60 mph. I hit the car that was coming out of the lot because I could not stop my car. The car that I hit hit a parked car. My vehicle then sped ahead hitting another car because I could not stop. I sped over the railroad tracks and my car finally came to a stop in a shopping center. This was the last experience with sudden rapid acceleration in this Jeep. No one in my household has driven the Jeep since. My daughter experienced the same rapid acceleration in February while she was parking. She was going in reverse to park between two parked cars. The Jeep accelerated so rapidly she hit the car parked behind. The parked car she hit was totaled. The dealer could not diagnose the problem and Chrysler dropped the case. In my case Chrysler sent an inspector to investigate the problem. Chrysler determined that that they would not change their previous position and denied any mechanical defect. We have a car we are terrified to drive. It cannot be repaired because the mechanical defect cannot be diagnosed.

18 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2015

I am wondering how there hasn't been a recall on the Grand Cherokee interior door handles. My car has only 67000 miles and all four door handles are cracked. The back two are being replaced because they no longer work. This poses a serious problem in the event of a crash since rear occupants would be trapped in the vehicle. Performing a search online and this is definitely a widespread issue for the Grand Cherokee.

19 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2015

I bought my vehicle in Dec 2014 from a used dealer. Passenger side interior door handle had small crack as well as driver side interior door handle. On 2/19/15 while exiting vehicle, driver's side interior handle cracked significantly and was very loose. Since then, passenger side door handle has cracked very bad also. This afternoon 8/10/15, while getting back into my vehicle the entire drivers side door interior handle fell completely off and into the street. This presents a seriously hazardous condition, if the driver of the vehicle can not exit the car without rolling the window down then reaching out of car to open door using exterior handle. If an accident occurs and my vehicle flips onto its passenger side. I can not exit the vehicle at all! unless I climb into the back seat and open the drivers side rear door. This is very serious. Jeep chrsyler needs to replace all interior handles on this vehicle ASAP, as there are numerous complaints about the same issue.

20 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2015

The door handles and plastic surrounding the door handles have cracked and door handles are broken. This is a safety problem or recall. If you get trapped in your Jeep and the door handle breaks then there's no way out from that door. My Jeep is in great condition hardly any wear and tear. This is defective lemon material. It just crumbles.

21 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2014

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee limited, 2005. The rear right door handle cracked and upon exiting of my family member, the hand simply broke off. In the past week, I have been experiencing a threatening to break of the driver's side door handle. I am the only one driving my Jeep and I worry that when I have my grandchild in the vehicle and the rest break as it appears they are threatening, exiting the vehicle will be an issue. I have contacted both the dealership in my town as well as crysler regarding this issue and I was informed that I would have to replace the door panels rather than the actual door handles. The dealerships are kicking the can down the road and this is dangerous for them as well as the customers. Crysler needs to deal with this issue before it becomes a real problem.

22 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

All 4 interior door handles are cracking and breaking at the base of the handle. I can barely get out of my Jeep opening from the inside, and I have to get out to let my son out at school. My children must wait for me to open their doors, and if I were to get into a collision and my car on fire, I would in no way have time to roll my window down, get out, then let my kids out before an explosion of gasoline and other fluids engulfed my vehicle. This is not normal wear and tear, or the driver handle would be the worst, for it is most used. The driver handle was the last to break, and I'm not happy for the money I'm soon to spend, especially when I search online and find so many others having the very same complaint.

23 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2014

Driver side interior door handle has completely broken off. The other 3 door handles have also started to crack and become loose. It starts with a crack in the plastic, the crack then turns into a hole above the metal handle. The actual metal handle itself then loosens up and completely comes off. This is a serious problem that many other 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners have had. It's not from excessive use, it's a manufacturer defect. I cannot get out of my car unless someone open the door from the outside. I would assume this is a serious safety hazard considering it traps the operator inside the vehicle.

24 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2014

About three weeks ago my 7 year old granddaughter tried to get out of the Jeep and door handle was plastic was cracked and just hanging. This past week end when we had the grandchildren again my husband mentioned the door handle was broken and could not exit the vehicle from that door. We decided to look at all the door handles are all cracked and broken. I decided to research online and this problem has been going on and neglected for years. If an emergency occurred we would be trapped in the vehicle. This is a safety hazard. I was very upset. We purchased this vehicle less than a year ago and was in excellent condition because had one owner. Why was this not recalled, the plastic is too thin to support the handle!!.

25 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2014

Since we purchased this vehicle, the rear door handles and the passenger door handles have been cracked. Over the course of us owning the vehicle for the past year the rear door handles no longer open from the inside. This is a not only a problem but a safety issue because if there would be an accident or a fire or anything people in the back seats would be stuck in the vehicle. I have read many, many similar issues regarding this issue and how Jeep refuses to fix it unless you buy a whole new door panel which can be up to $600 a door. Chrysler should really recall these vehicles, it is a terrible design and something needs to be done.

26 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2014

We purchased a second hand Jeep 2005 Grand Cherokee last may 2013. It was a one owner one driver vehicle. By the looks of the interior there were no other passengers ever in the car. Very clean and unused. By December 2013 we noticed cracking and breaking around the passenger and rear door handles. We utilize the rear doors for our grandchildren. By February 2014 the rear door behind the driver had broken and has apparently unattached the mechanism that opens the door, which now is unable to exit the vehicle through that door. When this incident occurred I went online and saw that it was a common defect with this make and model. I contacted Jeep and Jeep dealer. No one responded back from complaint from Jeep. The dealer told us it would cost $550 per door to repair. When I contacted Jeep I asked how many casualties does it take for a recall. My granddaughters sit back there and could never exit the vehicle in an emergency situation. The handles are made of plastic as is the piece it is connected too. They actually sell replacement repair kits for this on line and dealership where we purchased said it would replace them for a large fee if I purchased the repair kit. Since this is a known defect and safety issue I don't feel we should have to pay to repair something that should have been a manufacturing recall. If the vehicle would catch on fire there would be fatalities. . The strongest handle is the drivers door?? which means it would take a lot longer for this one to break, do you think they knew this when manufacturing??.

27 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2014

Took Jeep in for recall recall completed some odd miles down road 4wd low would not engage took back to dealer after internet findings of a bad recall( they make some by pass software instead of actually fixing the computer chip that cracks in transfer case) anyway they reset worked for a week mayb and again low didn't work anymore back to dealer they had new software Jeep was reflashed on way home service 4wd system light on all the time took back to the dealer they reflashed it again n told me they'd have to contact Chrysler if it happened again went out started Jeep lights back on and back thru the door into dealer now I gotta wait for some star technicians to come look at it who nos how long that'll take. Fighting with them over this recall for years is rediculous if they woulda just fixed it the right way I'm sure these issues wouldn't happen. O and also the interior door handles are junk plastic n break n will cause u to be unable to safely exit in a fire!! this recall has takin to long to get fixed n Chrysler should do something about it!!.

28 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

Door handle on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo seems to be ready to break on driver door. I can see a sort of pin cracking through the door itself. This is a safety issue that needs to be fixed immediately. Notified Jeep dealer in concord, nc and I was told that I would have to buy a new door panel assembly to fix this as it is not under warranty.

29 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

The Jeep grand cherokee 2005 and up has inside door panels made of plastic ,and the door handles which allow opening the vehicle doors for the inside are attached to this weak plastic panel. Over time the door handle plastic attachment points began to crack and break away , eventually causing the opening handle to fall off,and the door is then not able to be opened from inside. In the event of a crash or fire in the vehicle while this condition exists , the occupants at those doors would be unable to escape the vehicle thru the doors with this problem. Chrysler service states that there are not enough complaints regarding this for them to assist me in any way, to repair this all the inside door panels must be replaced. Chrysler customer service # 1-800-992-1997.

30 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

Driver side door handle fell apart when opening door. Two years earlier, rear passenger door did same. Front passenger door also cracking. Real safety hazard. Can not exit vehicle with window rolled up.

31 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2013

Plastic door handle casing is cracked on front driver door interior. Plastic door handle casing is completely broken on left rear passenger door interior, causing door handle to hang and be unsafe to use. No incident caused this other than a passenger simply trying to open the door to exit. As it remains, the rear passenger can not safely exit the car due to this problem.

32 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2013

Driver's side rear inside door handle broke, making it impossible to open door from the inside (major safety issue). Upon inspection, I found that the plastic surrounding the handles on both passenger-side doors are also cracked in the same spot, they will soon fail. Called dealership (farrish, in fairfax va), they said Jeep wouldn't do anything for me as out of warranty, and entire door panels would need to be replaced at $780 each (note: not the dealership's fault). Given the number of complaints on this and other websites, it is clear Jeep is aware of this issue and has decided to to address it, despite the obvious safety implications. Furthermore, they have refused to offer the handle as a separate part - replacing a door panel with another one with a similarly defective part is not economically feasible, and doesn't seem like a real solution as the new part is just as likely to fail as the old one. A recall should be implemented. The problem is so widespread that there is now an aftermarket solution (door handle replacement kits) designed specifically to address this problem, but you can't get them installed by the dealership.

33 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2013

My complaint is concerning the interior door panels and handles for my vehicle. All four doors have cracks in the casing that lead to the handle. One of the levers has actually broken off(the passenger seat side behind the driver/left side of vehicle). I brought this to the attention of the service department of landmark Dodge Chrysler Jeep where I purchased the car, and they informed me that the entire panel would have to be replaced in order to remedy the problem. They quoted to me a cost of approximately $600 for each door, meaning it would cost me about $2,400 to fix this problem. This can not be a fluke that all 4 doors have the same defect. This is a safety hazard and I am concerned that I, or any passengers I may have, will not be able to exit my vehicle because of it. This is clearly a manufacturers defect. I'm sure that there are other Jeep owners out there who have this same issue. Please help.

34 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The door handles of the interior doors are all breaking apart. This could be a safety issue in case of an accident and the people inside of the vehicle not being able to escape. The material is very thin plastic that is very cheap and the reason not one but all of the interior door handles are broken and/or cracked about to break.

35 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2013

Door handle cracked if there was fire and a frantic person used it, it would break. I feel this issue is a big safety hazard Jeep should replace with better material it already has to go in for a different recall.
