When I went to get out of my Jeep this morning I opened the door as I normally do. I then heard a crack and noticed the driver’s side door handle pulled completely out of the door. The brittle cheap plastic piece that holds the handle in the door just designated. The unfortunate part is that I cannot open my door now therefore if I am in an accident and the car is on fire I will not be able to exit the care which is very scary for me. I hope Chrysler recalls this issue. You would think a $50000 car would last.
The interior door handles broke when being lightly used. The plastic cracked and the handle came off. It looks like this is a common issue. I email Chrysler about this and they blew it off as no big deal. This is a big deal and a safety issue!! if the handle breaks at a time when emergency evacuation from the vehicle is needed then that person will become trapped. This needs to be addressed.
The cups around the door handles on the interior panel of the door began cracking and over time eventually failed and crumbled completely rendering the door handle useless. Obviously this a huge safety hazard as occupants can not exit the vehicle should there be an emergency. Through research this seems to be a far too common occurrence for this model vehicle.
In March of 2013 the right door in the back seat handle cracked, at first you were still able to open it then one day it completely broke off and now you can no longer open it from the inside, at first I thought maybe my daughter had pulled a little to hard on it, then I started to look at the all 3 other door handles and they are all cracked and slowly starting to break like the right rear door. I called the dealer and they told me that I has to replace all the door panels for $250. 00 each there was no way to just replace the actual handle.
The interior door handles are broken. The driver side door is barely hanging on, it's getting more and more difficult to open the door to get out. The front passenger side door handle is starting to crack, I have put a little epoxy on the handle to try and make it last longer. The cost to replace the handles are riduculos! these doors are a death trap!!!!!.
2005 Jeep has been slipping into neutral since February 2013. It caused me to have an accident because I couldnt get out of the way of rear-oncoming traffic. No major damage was done thankfully! a few weeks later I experienced a rollaway. I went into the sitter to pick up my son. After about 5 minutes of being inside I my Jeep roll across the street! I go running outside, opened the door and pulled up the emergency break. . . Just missing an embankment! since the "neutral" thing started I have had several service lights come on. My mechanic performed a diagnostic check and he said its all electrical. Also, ive had issues with the front passenger window going up/down slower than the rest of the windows since 3 months into purchase. Other issues are cracked door handles (both front doors), replacing taillight kit, ac switch-a few times as it would only work on high.
2005 Jeep cherokee limited. There has been an issue for years reguarding the plactic door panels interrior of the car. With all 4 doors cracked and 1 ( drivers door) will not open from the inside. This is a life safety to all occupants in this car. With a crash or fire to happen and you cant get out of a door due to poor design of the door by the manufactor. Theses door panels start out with small hair cracks and one time of opening the door you have cracked all the plastic and not able to open up the door. I feel that Jeep needs to stand up and correct this issue on a recall. After this happeneing you can take it in and they will put the new design that doesnt have this poor design for just over 800 dollars a door. So with this manufactor making a change to the panel, says they knew it was a poor design. This is happeneing to my understanding Jeeps of 2005- to around 2010. I have paid close attenetion to the same year that I own and 90% of the time you see the cracks at the handels inside. Please lets figure somthing out before people lose there kids life or there own life.
Interior door handle of passenger door in the back seat behind the driver cracked and fell off. The driver side door handle is doing the same thing and is about to fall off. The car was stationary, and I believe this is a safety hazard because if the car was in an accident, occupants would not be able to exit the vehicle.
First, the interior door handles are a hazard. All four are cracked and one broke off as my grand child open the back seat door to get out. The front passanger door interior door handle is breaking off at any time, the others are cracked. I am afraid that in an accident some of us might not make it out. They are too expensive to replace. I tried to trade in the Jeep but no luck! I know there are more Jeeps out there with the same problem. I hope there have been no accidents with deaths, yet ! help !!! the second, is the catalyst converter needs to be replaced again after a year, how many times has it been replaced before? I cant get that info.
Interior door handles crack from normal use and eventually fail. Safety issue cannot open door from interior.
My vehicle has 40,000 miles, emaculate condition except for the door handles and their structures around them. The drivers door is barley exitable. Sometimes I have to roll the window down to get out. (how imbaressing, to be a top of the line, showroom quality; still ; vehicle). We bought it new in November 2004. Have been so happy with it until 2 months ago. The passenger and rear passenger handles are cracked as well. Please help me, I'm just sick about it.
Front passenger door handle suddenly cracked/busted upon getting out of the car. Later, the other three door handles cracked/busted. Recently, I found it difficult to get out of the car because the door would not open due to the busted handle.
Faulty inside door handles/ cracked/ lose/ major safety hazard.
Approximately 3 years ago, the interior door handle attached to the door panel became brittle and cracked and over time the 2 rear doors do not have handles, just gaping holes, and the front door handles are cracked with large holes. The obvious defect of the construction material has created a situation where the rear passengers cannot exit in an emergency. The cracking of the door panel is not normal wear and tear, but a defect in construction.
All of the inside door handles are breaking off around the pull lever. It started with one of the back doors and now has spread to both back doors and the front passenger door. The plastic around the drivers door has begun to crack and will not be long before it fails as well. The door handle assembly is molded into the entire panel and the repair requires replacement of the entire door panel. Getting out of this car requires some skill. You have to pull straight out on the wire (that used to be connected to the pull lever) if the wire drops into the panel you can only exit the Jeep by someone opening it from the outside. This is a problem. I did a search on the net and I found countless post of the exact same failure. Jeep is saying the same thing to anyone who contacts them. That it is abuse that has caused the issue and replacement is not covered under warranty and the cost is $700 per door.
Door handles on all four door have cracked and broken with normal use ,we are afraid we will need to exit vehicle in a hurry and now we have to roll down the windows to exit vehicle this is a severe safety issue that needs to be addressed by Chrysler before someone is injured.
The problem of defective door handles started when the car was about four years old and has gotten progressively worse. There have now been two incidents of door handles breaking off completely and there is soon to be a third. As of now both inside door handles for back seat doors are completely broken off making it impossible to exit the back doors from inside the vehicle unless you open the window and reach through to unlock the door from outside. The vehicle has power windows making it even more difficult to exit the rear doors of the vehicle in case of an emergency. The door handle on the driver's side is still functional but is badly cracked and a piece of plastic has now fallen off. It is now very close to breaking off. (it is only a matter of time until it is completely broken). The material that these door handles are made from is of very poor quality. I am worried that the driver's door handle may break now and in case of a fire or other emergency the driver and backseat passengers will be unable to exit the vehicle safely. Your attention to this matter of safety is appreciated.
All four (4) of the door handles on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee are cracking and I am fearful that they will be breaking off soon. The handles and the supporting door handle housing are all cracking in the same location. I contacted Chrysler (case #26840108) and Jeep (case #2684022) and have been unable to receive any repair assistance even though this is a manufacturer defect. Since the defect is in the housing unit of the interior door panel, the cost to replace the housing is prohibitive to most owners since the entire door panel must be replaced. The dealer states it is ~$800 per door to fix. Due to the safety issue of being unable to exit the back seat area from the inside without difficulty, I am fearful of allowing my 14yo daughter, grandkids, or anyone else of riding in the back seat. If an accident were to occur, they would be unable to safely exit the car from the inside. The damage to the door handles and/or frames are not due to normal "wear and tear" or any outside circumstance. Although I am just now reporting this, I did not initially recognize it as a defect when the problem first occurred with the first door (rear driver's side) in 2009. This is a safety hazard caused by defective manufacturing. I am reporting this hoping that a recall will be made by Chrysler before someone is seriously injured and/or killed.
The left rear passenger interior door handle snapped off the door panel. Subsequent to that, the right rear passenger handle snapped off as well. Both of the front handles are cracked and on the brink of breaking off. In the event of an accident, a rear passenger would not be able to exit the vehicle without either going through a window or a front door.
