Front Seat Head Restraint problems of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I attempted to install a car seat for a 3 year old child in the back seat of my 2005 Grand Cherokee. However, the head rest interfered with proper installation of the car seat. The head rest would not allow the seat to be tightly mounted to the back seat of the car, but rather held the child seat out by about 2-3 inches. This prevented the seat from being safely installed. It is very difficult to remove the head rest from this vehicle. I had to take it to the dealer to get this done. But when the head rest is removed, there are two "prongs" that protrude out, making the situation even more dangerous. I called Chrysler to get advice on what to do. They said go to the dealer, but the dealer could not solve the problem either. I then called Chrysler again, and they insisted this is not a problem. But it is! daimler- chrylser needs to address this problem. It is a design flow. At the very least they should provide a list of infant car seats that can be properly installed -- if any such seats exist.

Consumer stated his vehicle was designed so that the driver and passenger rear seats have head rests that make it impossible to properly install a forward facing car seat in the rear seat. The head rests strike the top of the car seat so that the consumer can not put the car seat flush against the back seat. The only place the car seat will properly fit is in the middle of the rear seat. The consumer stated that two car seats can't be in the back seat. Consumer contacted the manufacturer and they referred him to a dealer that is licensed to install car seats. The dealer told the consumer that this was a problem, the dealer had already informed the manufacturer of the problem. Manufacturer says that they have fixed problem for 2006 year model by replacing the headrests, but they can not do anything to retrofit 2005 year models. The consumer says that the only solution is to buy a much smaller and not as safe car seat.

Head restraint on my new Jeep Grand Cherokee limited (2005) tilts forward a few inches (compared with my previous 2002 laredo). There is no adjustment to pull the head restraint back, only an up and down option. The head restraint is pushing my head forward instead of it being straight with my body as I drive the vehicle. This turtles the head and causes headaches. The manufacturer and Jeep dealer have not provided a remedy or refund thus far.
