The middle rear seat belt is locked in place to the point it is digging into my seat. I now can not use the seat belt and causes a safety concern for my children and or passengers if they are not wearing a seat belt. Also, the rear headrest removes but the poles that holds them in still stick out of the seat. The headrest must be removed to properly install my daughters booster seat. The booster seat does not sit flush against the seat unless the head rest cushion is removed but it does not look safe especially in the event of a car accident having the head rest support poles sticking out of the seat. So all in all the rear seat renders me useless with only two seat belts and one of the two working ones not properly installing a car seat becaise of the headrest.
I leased a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee from a local dealership in wilmington, DE. I recently experienced a significant problem with the rear seats and their ability, or lack thereof, to accommodate a child's car seat. As my daughter continues to grow we have changed her car seat to the forward facing position and it is currently located in the center of the back seat. As she continues to grow it is becoming difficult to place her in the child car seat located in the center of the back seat. Thus, we attempted, unsuccessfully, to move her car seat from the center position to the right rear seat position. However, due to the shape of the vehicles seat and inability to remove the head rest, we were unable to safely secure her car seat in the right rear seat position. We have since tried to install two other child seats and neither worked. Thereafter, we made arrangements to have someone from christiana hospital who is certified by the NHTSA install the seat and she too was unable to do so as a result of the vehicle's seat design and headrest. We have raised this issue with the dealership and daimler Chrysler but they simply tell us to consult our owner's manual and seatcheck. Org. However, I have read the owner's manual several times and it states that a child's seat can be installed in any of the rear seat positions. . Read more...
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not allow toddler car seats to be installed properly in the back seat due to permanent and non adjustable headrests. Received letter from certified NHTSA safety instructor stating this to be true.
: the contact stated the rear head rest did not pull down to allow a child seat to be secured in the seat safely. Because of the head rest the child seat was pushed forward. The dealership and manufacturer determined the head rest is designed in that manor and it is a problem in that type of vehicles.
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not allow for proper & safe child seat installation!! the back seat head rest tilt forward impeding the ability for car seats to lay flush against seat. Removal of head rest (which was the only option from Jeep) leave 2 large metal bars that children can receive serious injury from in just entering their seats on their own! there is no safe option for child car seat/boosters. This is a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed! this was also not mentioned to us until we brought it to the attention of the Jeep dealership in which their reply was they were aware of the issue and nothing could be done.
