All 4 interior door handles have cracked and broken the interior component (involving the handle mechanism). The rr handle is unusable and will need to be replaced immediately. The addition interior handles are cracked but remain usable at this time but will soon fail. The design of this model as well as similar Jeep models is a common failure. This can be considered a potential safety failure if the handle completely fails and passengers unable to open the door resulting in injury or even death during an accident.
Interior door handle (rear passenger) broke while child was opening door to exit the vehicle. Front handles are showing cracking as well. Rear seat passenger is unable to open door and must be let out from the external handle. This is a safety issue and could cause passenger to become trapped during an accident.
Cause of failure: interior door handle has stress cracked and is broken. There are no signs of abuse, impact damage or after market modifications. **note that the interior door handle is serviceable only as an interior door panel assembly**correction: installed replacement interior door handle assembly to correct concern. This problem started with the driver's side interior door handle. The plastic cup behind the door handle cracked and eventually shattered leaving shards behind that cut my hand when I opened the door. The remaining three door handles have all done the same thing. This is a safety issue. Exiting the Jeep Grand Cherokee in an emergency situation with the door handles not working properly would be delayed, or in the case of a child, impossible.
All 4 of my door handle panels are cracked and broken. The back doors r so bad you can't open them to get out. It's gradually happened overtime. We have only had our Jeep for 1 year and 5 months. It gets worse every time we use it obviously and it's our family vehicle. Hope you can help. This shouldn't happen with a Jeep vehicle. Very disappointed. Hope something can be fixed. Thanks.
My husband went to exit the vehicl and the passenger door handle broke. We are now not able to open the door from the inside or the outside because of this. Very cheaply made and falling apart prior to completely breaking off. Door is now unusable until I pay a few hundred dollars to have repaired!! this could be extremely dangerous in the event of an accident!! it is only a matter of time before the drivers side does the same as the interior plastics of the actual handle are already completely broken out. The pieces literally crack and fall out! the only fix at the dealer is to replace the entire door panel and a few hundred dollars each. My car is no longer under warranty so now this is an out of pocket expense since Chrysler decided to use cheap and unreliable parts. The door handle piece is replaceable from an auto parts store. They are $140. 00 each plus labor for someone to do the work. This needs to be a recall!! in doing research there are hundreds of people this is happening to!!!.
The housing surrounding the front driver and passenger interior door handle has cracked and broken away resulting in compromised exit from the vehicle. This is a very common issue among 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles and should be recalled buy Chrysler. The 5-6-2014 date is when the passenger door occurred which resulted in me inspecting my driver side showing the driver side was severely compromised.
The passenger side door handle has broken completely due to the collapse of stress cracks in the plastic. The fracture caused a minor laceration on my right hand. The same incident happened a few days later to the right rear door and I noticed that the remaining doors have major stress cracks in the same place and are not safe to operate. We must open the window to operate the outside handles to exit the automobile. If an accident occurs all passengers ,especially children and those unable to reach the outside handles quickly, would be at serious risk of injury or death. I talked to the dealer and to a Chrysler representative and was told they were not aware of the safety problem and did not offer any helpful solution other than to replace the four door panels at my expense. I will have to do the repairs because of the high risk to my family however it is not fair that a large company in the us can ignore such a major safety risk to it's customers. Hopefully an accident does not happen, particularly affecting children or seniors, before they seriously address the defect. This is obviously a serious safety issue and based upon the number of concerns raised throughout the internet it definitely affects many people. I believe it is the responsibility of the NHTSA to protect us from large companies that knowingly place us in a serious safety situation. Please do what's right and issue a safety recall in order to keep us safe.
My passenger was getting out of car, opened the and all the plastic around the doorhandle crack, which now is a safety issue because cant use the handle to open the door, incase of an accident passenger is unable to exit, I am single with no children so the other doors arent hardly used, there is no reason it should be weak, so I called the Chrysler group to inquire about another recall I received, and mentioned this to them, they told my Jeep wasnt in the recall, but have the dealer check the door, when I take it in for the other issue, and have them diagnosis it, to see if its a manufacturing defect. . . Which I asked if it is will it be paid for, they couldnt answer, they kept saying, maybe they could cost assist me. . . I dont understand there are so many complaints with this issue, plus its a safety concern, because most arent paying to get it fixed, well I have appointment next week . . I let everyone know how it turns out. . My Jeep only has 75,000miles on it. Brooke.
The rear door handle broke off. The other 3 handles have cracks in the cheap plastic. Passengers cannot get out of the vehicle without someone opening the door from the outside. This is a safety hazard and I fear that in an emergency, this easy fix could cost someone's life. Jeep does not recognize this as a problem and does not offer a recall. After doing some research, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of other Jeep owners that have had the same problem.
The driver side interior door panel cracked where it is attached to the door and the handle falls off, leaving the driver unable to exit the vehicle without assistance. This occurs with normal use, no abnormal use or abuse.
The rear passenger side interior door panel cracked where it is attached to the door and the handle falls off, leaving the rear passenger side unable to exit the vehicle without assistance. This occurs with normal use, no abnormal use or abuse.

All four interior door panels have cracked and broken where it attaches to the door. Consequently, the door handles become inoperable because they are attached to the panel where the cracking occurs. This is a safety issue as both driver and passengers are unable to exit quickly in the event of an emergency and might not even be able to exit at all. Chrysler offers no assistance for this known issue, which appears to occur frequently with this model year.
After 4+ years of consumer complaints about his very serious safety hazard, still nothing has been done. The door handles of my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee started crumbling and cracking about two years ago at about 38,000 miles. A year ago, the first door handle simply broke off amongst shards of paneling around it, making the door inoperable. Today, three out of four panels have desintegrated around the handles to the point where they are inoperable as well, effectively trapping someone in the back of the vehicle if I dared to to have passengers and got into an accident. The driver's side is hanging by a thread. I am unable to drive my clients anymore due to liability issues and the danger that stems from this awfully poor design and quality. I have read 100s of testimonials to this avail from other Jeep owners and this grave safety issue persists and is alive and well without any official push for remediation. The dealers want almost $3000 to replace their shoddy and dangerous door panels. Please. It is imperative that after years of collecting data on this issue, something will be done. These faulty door panels are turning the vehicle potentially into a death trap for anyone inside. . .
When attempting to exit the vehicle the door handle cracked the door panel and released the door handle from the door leaving it unusable and the door unable to be exited. Was attempting to flea vehicle and was trapped inside due to weak plastic failing in the door handle. In the event there was a fire or even toxic gas in the car cabin, there would have been a fatality. Extremely unsafe and should be recalled.
At the time of this complaint three of four of the door handles on my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo have broken off and are unusable. The plastic handles and the supporting door frames are all cracking in the same location and the handles then fall off. The dealer just told me that the warranty may not covered because the “problem start after 50,000 miles”, this is ridiculous, and the manufacturer has been unwilling to even discuss the issue, they didn’t answer phone calls, even voicemails, nothing at all! for me it’s more than obvious, this is a safety hazard as it takes more time to egress the vehicle in an accident. Just think about this hypothetical situation; you're with the family, (wife, daughters, grandfather and grandmother), all windows up, then appears somebody and hits you, inside three of four handles didn’t operates.
Interior door handles sheared off. Completely cracked off and disintegrated like there was never a door handle installed. It first started with the right rear passenger door handle and progressively continued with the left interior door handle, then the front passenger interior door handle. The only interior door handle that is still intact is the front driver's side. I believe this is a major safety concern in the sense that in the event of a crash or evacuation the passengers have no way to evacuate the vehicle unless opened from the outside. This safety hazard has yet to be recognized by Jeep as other owners have complained as well. There are several blogs posted online and it is very expensive to replace. I am driving an unsafe vehicle at this point and wish Jeep would action this safety-related concern as soon as possible.
All four inside door handles are cracked/broken, the front driver side handle is dangling making it hard to open and the passenger front handle seems to be going in the same direction. The two rear handle casings are cracked and hopefully will last being the rear seats are hardly used. This could become a very dangerous even life threating situation if it becomes totally broken off and unable to open it in an emergency. Supposedly Chrysler/Jeep claims that until my call a few months ago "they knew nothing of this matter, no one has reported this problem". I know it's not just me and at $500 a door panel it is impossible for me to have it repaired. There has to be a recall to this door casing cracking/breaking problem. Please, please help!.
