The vehicle was traveling at approximately 40 mph on a traditional two lane country road. As I approached a left handed turn, I pressed the break pedal and instantaneously lost power steering and power breaks. The vehicle became difficult to control and drove off the road into a small grass field. After coming to a stop, I looked at the dash and realized the tachometer showed 0 rpm indicating the engine had stalled. At first, I was unable to restart the vehicle because the shifter was still in drive. The vehicle restarted with no hesitation once the shifter was moved to park. The p54 recall has previously been completed. Fca has been informed and the vehicle was inspected by a Jeep dealer. The recall for v62 is still in development and the vehicle has since received the temporary interim repair. I have decided to park the vehicle until fca can reassure the vehicle is safe to drive.
Twice on two separate occasions, when going about 25 miles an hour on a town road and breaking and turning to the right (one time was more right than the other), my car loses power out of no where. My engine shuts off, I lose power steering, and I lose my break assist. It is very scary and dangerous and could cause a life threatening accident. I crossed over into the opposite lane of traffic with little to no control. Fortunately both times no one was near me and I was able to come to a stop. I can then restart the car and drive away. I dont know how to replicate the issue. I have seen other reports of this same problem with other Grand Cherokees on the internet. I dont know if the current recall that I need is supposed to address it or not but I plan on calling my dealer about it ASAP. My car is about 149k miles. I think the lights stay on when this happens.
On multiple occasions, our 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland 5. 7l engine stalls while braking and trying to turn corners. Recall p54 to replace fuel pump relay to correct this issue was done in November 2015, but the issue has continued. Most recently occurred sept 8th, 11th and now today the 14th. Had vehicle in for diagnostics on sept 13th and Jeep technicians were unable to find the problem. When this stalling occurs, there are no warning lights and apparently no fault codes generated. When motor stalls, we lose power steering and brakes and have ended up on the wrong side of road trying to get stopped. This usually happens when decelerating and braking to turn off or onto a highway.
Timp recall, was repaired Jan 2015. Today vehicle stalled in traffic, completely shut down and lost power steering, while making a left hand turn. I am lucky I was not in an accident. I was able to restart the vehicle. I have made an appointment with the dealer, but since it was repaired previously, not sure what they will do for me. Obviously there is still a problem the recall did not repair.
Was slowing down from 50 mph to make a left hand turn. As I was entering the turn, at about 30 mph, the engine shutoff. All dash lights still functional, radio was still on, turn signal still on. There was no sputtering. Lost power steering and power braking (and any other items that are not functional while in "run" mode). Shifted to "neutral", but it would not start because the transmission was not in "park". Pulled to the side and stopped the vehicle, put it in "park". Started like nothing had happened. There were no warning lights before shutdown, there are no service lights or obd ii codes stored in computer. Was using the push button starter, the key fob was in my pocket.
Replaced tipm 15 months ago. Today, turning into parking lot car stall. Lost all power steering, no brakes, no engine. Had to restart while coasting. Decelerating at 45 mph making a left turn.
Car stalls with no warning while driving. Has happened twice. Lose power steering. Able to re-start.
Vehicle stalled on a busy road while traveling approximately 35 mph. I was decelerating approaching a traffic light and lost power steering, power brakes and engine shut down. After placing vehicle into park I was able to restart. This has happened twice in the last few months. The dealership is not able to replicate the issue or take further action to correct the issue.
While driving down the interstate, using cruise control, my car suddenly lost power steering and then all control including gas. Seemed to stall but then would come back on and off as I was "coasting" to a stop. Trying to make my way over two lanes so I could safely pull off the shoulder out of danger was next to impossible. I had to have my car towed 110 miles to dealer and Jeep only covered first $100 so I ended up paying another $450 in towing costs. The dealer said my "serpentine belt" had been shredded and it had wrapped itself around everything in its path. Talking with numerous other garages and even other Jeep certified mechanics, they all agree these belts should be replaced around the 85,000 mile mark even though they shouldn't show signs of wear until the 95,000 mile mark. Therefore I would like to know why the belt in my car, with only just under 43,000 miles on it, shredded so badly and almost caused me to drive straight into numerous cars and then into a guardrail and off the side of the interstate.
On Friday, 9/19/14, my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee almost killed me. I was driving between va and NY via I-81 for a family funeral. I stopped half-way there for lunch and then experienced a problem starting it. Hitting the start button, it would not start, and would not stop trying to do so - it kept cranking and would not stop until I opened the door. It did this 3-4x, and then it started. It had never done this before. I continued on, more cautiously. An hour later, while passing several big rigs, part of the electrical system stopped working. I lost power steering, accelerator function, and my dash lit up - and the engine continued running and even rev'ed despite the lack of the accelerator. My brakes also didn't work for approx. 10 seconds. The road curved, and I almost lost control and flipped the Jeep trying to avoid the big rigs, which were slamming on their brakes all around. Ultimately, I was able to pull over with no accident or damage and turned the vehicle off. After 15 minutes, it re-started, and I was able to get to my destination with no other problems. Upon arrival, however, I experienced the same things while testing it at very low speeds on back roads. After the funeral on Saturday, I was able to get it to the local dealership, where it still is undergoing diagnostics. I had to travel back to va on Sunday, and now have to rent a car, deal with long-distance repairs with an unknown dealership, and travel back to NY to get it once repaired. The dealership indicated it sounded like a tipm issue, which I have learned Jeep/Chrysler know about, but have not recalled. I have previously experienced minor electrical issues (flashlight never worked, multiple back bulbs, etc), which the dealership indicated may indicate tipm issues since the day I bought the vehicle, but were always dealt with as isolated repairs. Please help with a Jeep/Chrysler tipm recall!.
