Greetings, after 3 dealership attempts to correct the tipm - NHTSA 19v813000 recall, my Jeep still stalled 4 times at highway speeds. I narrowly averted being rearended several times. I am terrified to drive the vehicle! I have yet another dealership appointment Friday, January 12, 2024 to correct the issue. Previous visits could not reproduce the problem or show any code errors. There were no warnings at all during these malfunctions, only the loss of braking and power steering did I realize the vehicle had stalled. Are there any remedies afforded to me at this point from Chrysler? the vehicle has only 124,000 miles. I've been extremely lucky that I haven't crashed or injured another party to date, but I fear it could happen at any time since this is my only transportation to and from work.
My vehicles totally integrated power module (tipm) was rewired at a dealership as part of a manufacturer recall. Ever since this has been "rewired" I have had problems with the car shutting off while driving, and as a result, a loss of power steering and power brakes. I notified the dealership, rentschler Chrysler of slatington, PA, and they state that everything looks ok with the wiring and that a new tipm was not part of the recall. This issue has been occurring with my Jeep (2011 Grand Cherokee laredo) since 2013, two years after I purchased the car brand new. I want to know why Chrysler was not ordered to replace the tipm with a new part? this has been happening to my car frequently and I have known other people with Jeep, ram, and durango problems with stalling while driving.
SUV stalls when coming to a stop while making a right turn or while stopping at a light. Power steering and brakes quit working. There are no diagnostic codes thrown for the dealer to check into. This occurs at least three to four times a week. I only commute 4 miles a day. Fortunately everytime this occurs I have been able to come to a stop and no other cars have been near. But if a car was on the street I am turning onto I would have hit their car. The dealer has replaced a few things that could possibly be wrong but the issue does not give diagnostic code to investigate. This is a known issue with Chrysler for this year model and several other years but my Jeep Grand Cherokee has no recalls for it.
Wife was driving car off the highway, around a rightward curving offramp, and she noticed that the steering was handling differently, as if the power steering was off, and the brakes were not responding normally either. She could not stop the car where she intended to and was lucky that there was not cross traffic in the immediate intersection. No lights on the dash were lit up. She turned the car off and on again, and the steering and braking was normal again. We brought it to a trusted independent mechanic and described the issue, and they could not reproduce the issue but looked it up and found multiple reports of this occurring with 2010s Grand Cherokees. They were very concerned about the safety of the car and recommended bringing it to a dealer. One local dealer wanted $1000 to begin diagnosing. The other dealer charged $250 to look around but could not find anything that would explain loss of steering and brakes. We do not feel safe driving the car, as we live in a busy urban setting and any loss of control of the car would likely mean injuring or killing one of our neighbors.
The vehicle randomly stalls without warning while driving, causing the power steering and brakes to fail. It occurs randomly every 7-14 days, usually when it's first driven for the day and usually within the first 5-10 miles when slowing down to make a turn. Occasionally it will occur at a stop sign and a few times it has occurred in traffic. It can be restarted by putting it in neutral or park. It has been doing this ever since I purchased the vehicle in 2017 with 68,000 miles on it. It now has 195,000 miles and the stalling has become more frequent. I hoped the recall for the fuel relay would fix it, but it has not. I have read that it is a tipm problem. There are several hundred similar complaints on the NHTSA website. The problem is discussed in Jeep forums on the web. This is a serious safety issue because of potential rear-end collisions. Why won't Jeep or NHTSA address it?.
When you turn a corner the engine shuts off. All the electronics still work (like radio, and lights) but you have no power stearing it is manual. You have to coast to the side of the road and put the truck in park and restart it. This has been recalled and fixed a few times and it is still happening and Jeep will not do anything to fix the problem. They want to duplicate the issue but you can not. This happens whenever it wants to - there is no rhyme or reason why it happens and you cannot duplicate it. I've taken notes every time it happens, (gas gage at where, weather, time of day, where I was going, how long I drove the truck) nothing matters, it just happens when it happens. So far now it is happening at least 1 time a month since December 2021. And I have called Jeep every time and reported the incident. I have a case number but they will not fix it or send out a new recall.
Jeep stalled out in traffic. Just died on the road.
While trying to make a turn the power steering and brakes did not work. The vehicle did not stall. After stopping I shut the vehicle off and restarted it and it was working, this happened 3 times in about 2 weeks. I have the vehicle in to the dealer trying to find the problem.
As I am about to turn right my vehicle completely shuts off and I lose power steering, etc. Brakes work enough to stop thankfully, but vehicle is completely off almost causing a crash. I am able to start my 2011 Jeep gc right back up and go on with the engine light on. The light then shut off as I am driving. After reading multiple cases of this same issue it is apparent something needs done and a resolution needs issued. This is an extreme safety issue and needs addressed now before injury or death occurs. I love Jeep but I do not think I will be able to get another (after having 3+) if this does not get addressed. Get this fixed and addressed now.
On more than 1 dozen occasions my Jeep has stalled while driving anywhere fm 20 to 40 miles an hour. I lost steering control and brakes while the rest of gages stayed on. After the first few times I figured out I could throw in neutral , hit the ignition button and it starts right back up. Chrysler Jeep told me this was a "relay " recall for over 1 1/2 years that they had no repair for. So they just kept replacing trhe part. I would get anywhere fm 2 wks to few months with the "new, bad part" the reall repair came in last week. After replacing it, I made it 2 days before I stalled again. This time on an exit ramp doing 30 miles an hour around a sharp turn . I (and my 13 year old son) went off the road into a ditch. I had to use 4 wheel drive to get out. I casued minor f=damage aswell. This time! I keep telling them it;s only matter of time before I die or kill someone when this stall happens. I have had a rental or been with out a car for at least 5 weeks of this last year alone for this recall failure. I look online and there are hundreds of websites and links to Jeep Grand Cherokees that have done this. How many ppl have to wreak or die to get someones attention?? I have filed this complaint a few years ago.
My car sometimes it doesn't start and keeps cranking. But the most dangerous is when it shuts off while driving. I took it to Jeep service but they didn't find what causes the issues. It keeps stalling. Doesn't happen every day and all the time but it's happening more frequently.
I have had to replace my thermostat about 6 times since I got the car in 2017. The housing breaks and it leaks causing over heating.
2011 Jeep gc overland dies while on a curve. Power steering not operating, engine not running. Will restart but happened 3 times in one week. Towed to jim doran Jeep/Chrysler in mcminnville, or, 2 wks ago. Dealer cannot diagnose or replicate. Am without a vehicle and need to drive back home to mn in 3 wks! pls help!!! had taken it to mckay's Jeep dealer in st cloud last June as display was stating service fwd. They performed an update but mssg kept appearing & had to return for more repairs. Dont have paperwork w me here in or. Cost over $2,000 for repairs. Dont know if this issue is related but display mentioned something about fwd when it died last time driven. Vehicle is unsafe to drive! only owned it for about 18 mos. Purchased from tenvoorde Ford in st cloud, mn. Came to that dealer from canada. . . . Need to know what my options are. I need a vehicle ASAP.
Engine stalls, wont start or dies right after starting, I think it is part of a recall with no fix available. If in motion it dies and losses power. Put in neutral to start while rolling! this happens more and more frequently lately.
I driving getting ready to turn the corner and my Jeep just dies . The radio and everything stays on but I less power steering and brakes are hard to push and no gas. If I put it in park and try to restart it's does start without a problem . . It has done this a couples times before. . There was a time a couple months ago when I was sitting at a stop light went to go and couldn't . . And then one other time 2 weeks ago also trying to turn a corner (it's all at random when it happens no warning ) there are no warning lights on.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, making a right turn the steering wheel seized, all warning light flickered. The contact managed to gain control of the steering wheel veer to the shoulder of the road. Which the contact noticed oder coming from the engine. The contact turn the vehicle off contacted an independent mechanic who towed the vehicle back to the contact residents. The next day the vehicle resume back to normal and was taken to the dealer spitzer Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of homestead 30101 s dixie hwy, homestead, FL 33032 (786) 650-3104 where it was diagnose but unable to duplicate the issues. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000. Ck.
While driving 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee with children in car, the Jeep just stalls out on me and I lose control of the steering. It has happened most times when I am making left and right turns.
Exiting highway. One incident merging right off ramp. Other incident, slowing to cross oncoming traffic onto a road. Engine suddenly shuts down. Fcw light comes on. Sensor on front is kept very clean! vehicle will restart but this is very dangerous as I was almost hit by oncoming traffic in the none incident. I read that this is common with these vehicles. Shame on you! never have another one.
2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee shuts off while driving. Power steering, engine control and braking all become difficult to use. Happening while turning causes the vehicle to veer into the guard rails, if they are present, or oncoming traffic, if turning away from traffic is too difficult. Luckily, in the multiple times this happened, I was turning right, either onto the highway onramp or into a gas station. The times into the gas station, sent me over the curb and grass, barely missing the pumps. The vehicle shows no signs of an error on the dash. All radio, lights and gauges work fine. Once you are able to stop the vehicle, it must be put into park and the push button start re-ignited. It terrified my family.
While driving and deceleration the Jeep shuts off. No lights come on indicating that the vehicle is no longer running. The first clue is loss of power steering and brakes. This always happens within the first couple miles of driving. The Jeep starts right back up and then 99% of the time won't stall again for a couple days. This is getting more frequent.
It has now happened several times in which I'm driving and the Jeep suddenly loses all engine power, braking and power steering. This happens on the highway. There are never any warning lights or sounds to signal this is about to take place. This last time it almost made me cause an accident.
I was driving down the highway at 60mph when I let off the gas and hot the brakes to slow down for a corner the engine shut down and I lost breaks and steering. I was able to muscle the steering through the corner and coasted to a stop. I put the Jeep in park, got the break pedal and started the vehicle back up. Everything seemed to work again. When I lost the engine, breaks and steering nothing else was effected. I still had lights, radio and gauges. But, no warning lights or codes came on.
Takata recall. When my vehicle is in motion arriving at an intersection, and I decrease the speed, the engine shuts down and at the same time the steering wheel is stuck, making it impossible to turn, and the brakes get hard. I have already taken the car 3 times to the Jeep shop and they have not been able to fix this problem. Since this problem started 2 months have passed and it has already happened 4 times. The car does not show any errors on the screen or afterwards when they are read. It is very dangerous because it always stays in the middle of the intersection without being able to do anything.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the steering seized. The contact placed the vehicle in neutral. When the vehicle was restarted, it operated normally. The vehicle was taken to elgin Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (1010 e chicago st, elgin, IL 60120, (847) 697-0900), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.
The vehicle consistently shuts off while I'm driving, losing power steering and engine power. It seems to occur when I am slowing down. This happens usually once/twice each week and most recently almost caused a high speed accident, as my car shut off while I was making a left turn on a highway, which caused a semi truck to swerve, nearly hitting me and my 4 year old son.
Every 3 months apart or so my vehicle has lost power on the engine causing it to shut down on me when I make a hard left turn while applying my brakes. The first time that it happened it was on the freeway on my way to work out of nowhere my wheel hot hard and when I was pressing my accelerator it was not working. , the second time it happened when I was making a left turn and the same thing happened to me I had to get on top of the side walk because I couldn't steer it enough to make my turn. And my third time happened this morning while I was going under the bridge luckily for me no one was behind me but this problem is a situation ready to go wrong. Out of all these times I have been alone in the vehicle going on my way to work in the morning. Its always a scary experience for me. I do not feel safe driving the car. No codes no nothing. The steering wheel gets all hard that I can barely turn it to get on my right lane so I can put my car in park and restart it , from there it starts working fine like if nothing happened.
While making a turn the steering and the brakes locked up and the engine shut off, causing me to lose control of the vehicle. This has happened twice 8 months apart. I've done the recall for the relay switch in 2015. This happened again (2nd time) yesterday April 9th, 2018. I almost hit a car at a light it was terrifying. The dealership has my Jeep now and said they can't diagnose unless they have an error code or unless it happens while the technician is driving it. Is Chrysler going to have people drive these SUV's and ignore that people could die? this is an extremely urgent situation. I don't feel safe driving my Jeep that I love. Please help?.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 65 mph, the steering lost power and the vehicle shut down without warning. The contact activated the hazard lights, shifted into park, and restarted the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was approximately 106,618.
Our 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalls without warning. The issue usually occurs when slowing down and turning to exit the highway. We have had all recalls taken care of, and have had the Jeep in to the dealer several times for this issue with no resolution. The drivers ability to control the vehicle after the loss of power is significantly diminished. This has happened several times over the past year.
Vehicle will unexpectedly stall during decelleration and braking. Vehicle loses all power to the motor and power steering, making it difficult to avoid collision and steer vehicle to safety. This happens at high and low speeds, and has occurred on 3 separate occasions in a 2 week time period. This issue was supposed to be addressed by recall number p54; of which I completed on this vehicle in 2014. This issue persists, and I am seeing other owners complain of this identical problem on various forums. Jeep/Chrysler seems to be inconsistent on the coverage of repairs and diagnosis. This is a real safety concern that should be addressed universally.
Fcw light on dash went on and all power went off, causing a total loss of steering and control on the freeway. This could easily result in a fatal collision.
On may 4, 2017, approximately around 7:00pm, I turned right onto a freeway and my steering wheel locked up and the vehicle shut off completely. I was not able to turn the steering wheel and barely was able to make it out of the middle of the road. The engine shut off while driving down the road. I am luck that I did not have a car behind me or I would have caused an accident. How scary!! Chrysler has claimed that they have fixed this!!.
When driving the engine will turn off with no warning. Since December until now, it has done this a total of 6 times. 3 of the times either merging onto the freeway or getting off of the freeway. Scares me so much. I have been lucky enough to not have anyone crash from the behind. My steering wheel locks, and the brakes become very hard to push down on. Its hard to move out of the way of traffic.
2011jeep Grand Cherokee overland had stalled in the middle of an intersection losing power steering, no brakes, and no warning lights on dash telling me anything about Jeep being turn off. Very scary! I hit the curb and almost hit the atop sign.
While decelerating and making a turn the vehicle has shut off which causes you to lose steering and braking. This has happened to me on 4 seperate occasions.
