This Jeep has the electronic shifter. I very rarely drive it as it is my wifes car. I pulled into a parking space today in a pouring rain. I pushed the shifter all the way forward into park, hit the engine shut off button, grabbed the key fob, and stepped out the door. To my horror I discovered that the car was still running in reverse. I had to run several steps and dive into the car and push the brake pedal down with my left hand and shift it into park with my right hand. The parking lot was full of people including many children. Had I not gotten lucky and stooped the vehicle, their could have been a tragedy. I know from the news that there is a recall being considered on this deadly shifter. It can. T come soon enough. I beg you to pressure Chrysler to address this extremely dangerous situation before people are killed. This car is not safe to drive, especially by someone not used to it. Please get back to me with a response. Thanks, russ foster.
Date above is most recent occurence message: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee - about 26000 miles now; since purchase new well below 5000 miles, and occurring 1-3x/month, usually shortly after starting out, the automatic transmission does not transition through the sequence and stays in low. 4-5 x in the last 4-5 months. Most recently on 10/26/14,upon entering i95 from a side street in baltimore into heavy traffic, the transmission stayed in low - in that traffic had to pull over with very little room - shift into neutral and start out again - very unsafe. Every time I take it to the dealer they tell me it "meets specs". Well the specs must be wrong - eventually this will cause an accident!!!! also, there are times of unpredictable acceleration - again, ususally within 10-15 min of being underway.

When the Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicle is exiting the freeway or when coasting with no pressure on the accelerator, the vehicle stalls. Engine power is lost, power steering is lost, and power braking is lost leading to a significant inability to control the vehicle. The vehicle is unable to restart until it comes to a complete stop in the roadway and is put into park. This issue has occurred on four separate occasions before Chrysler even issued a recall. Chrysler has now notified me by mail of a recall for the fuel relay which could cause a stall and crash and has recommended I take the car to a dealer for repair. After taking the car to the dealer, the dealer has stated that no problem can be found and they cannot recreate the issue. The Jeep dealer has no evidence showing them that the problem is occurring as a result of the fuel relay even with the recall in effect. The dealer has advised me to pick up the car and wait until parts are available to fix the recalled part. This means they have advised me to drive the car with this potentially fatal flaw. This is as of November 18th, 2014. Chrysler's recall department has advised by phone I drive the car to another Jeep dealership to see if another service department can diagnose the issue. This recommendation puts myself and the public at risk of serious injury or death. There has been no temporary repair suggested or a date when a permanent fuel relay replacement part will be available. No alternative transportation has been provided or offered. I am without a means of transportation while my vehicles is not functioning due to safety reasons.
This Jeep engine failed / stalled while driving. This caused the vehicle to veer off the road twice on a turn, and almost cause two rear ends by failing in mid traffic, in four different occasions, since 2014. The vehicle engine cuts out, which causes the power steering and brakes to not function properly. The vehicle was in motion on various main streets, when this occurred. Naperville Jeep dealership (where this vehicle was purchased) has also maintained this vehicle per the maintenance schedule, has worked on this problem since it began. They have not been able to resolve the issue and returned the vehicle to us confident the problem was ¿resolved¿ or non-existent. Attached is the vehicle recall and replacement record. From online research it seems this has occurred to other Jeep Grand Cherokees before and the typical solution is replacing the totally integrated power module (tipm). This vehicle¿s tipm was ¿repaired¿ sept 3, 2014. Below are the maintenance records related to this problem. 03/26/2014 mileage: 44,680 wro# 599705 11/25/2014 mileage: 51,329 cro# 615926 01/07/2016 mileage: 65,485 cro# 646292 06/10/2016 mileage: 69,938 cro# 658369 this vehicle is not safe and we have lost all trust and confidence in this vehicle.
While driving in outerbanks, nc. The vehicle decided to shut the 4x4 system off and lower suspension completely, all while driving. My new born son, wife and 4yr old daughter in the vehicle and we are stranded. Paid for towing and after towed the vehicle goes back to normal with no maintenance. Upon returning home vehicle randomly shuts off while in motion, will not start or fuel pump randomly runs and now way to shut off. After some research I am finding this is a common problem with the tipm in these vehicles. You are not able to get the parts as they are on back order and nothing is being done to the manufacturer. Who do we complain to if this happens while my children are in the car and there is an accident. This seems like this will be the only way something is going to be done about this issue.
Tipm- I went to start my Jeep this morning that felt like a weak start up, it then hiccuped and died. Thinking it maybe just a one time incident, tried again, with the result of the starter just cranking for about 5-6 seconds. This repeated multiple more times before I called a tow truck to take to a local mechanic. It was diagnosed with bad fuel pumps, and the cost to replace was $1600. This prompted me to call the dealership and ask if that's even possible. After explaining the issue at hand, the service manager told me that he doesn't believe the issue to be caused by faulty pumps, but from the tipm. This is obviously not the first time he has heard of this issue. I then did some research on the web and found this to be a pretty prevalent issue amongst owners of this year, make, and model. When I called him back to see if the backorder issues were true, he told me it would take around three weeks to get the part. I immediately asked for the Jeep corporate number, called them, and began to speak to a guy about it there. He told me that the production rate was one per 7 days. . . And that coupled with there are tons of these cases out there is why it was going to take a while to get the part. He went on to tell me that sounds crazy, but its just how fast, (or slow) they are producing them. I asked if the new product was a replica of the original and he said this is a solution for the previous one and would fix the problem, not just a bandaid. He advised me to have it fixed and hope the recall comes and I would be eligible for a reimbursement. With the price of this fix being so high and the amount of people affected, this has to be recalled. Please have anyone having this issue file a complaint here. This customer service rep told me there just hasn't been enough formal complaints about it to validate a recall. . . .

Our 2011 Jeep grand cherokee has exhibited multiple instances of sudden unintended acceleration (sua). It has occurred to my wife, one of our sons who is and aerospace engineer and myself on different days at different speeds and locations. I personally have experienced it on two occasions, one of which caused a minor accident as I was backing out of a parking space, with my foot on the brake put the car in drive and it lunged forward of its own accord, there were two other people in the car and a witness outside the car who reported it just lunged and the brake lights were still on. Chrysler inspected the car, found nothing and has closed the case. I called Chrysler and asked that we discuss the issue they said they found noting, fixed noting and thus the case is closed. So they are calling three people bold face liars and my concern is they did not find anything so the cause of the problem still exists and can happen again and my wife is at risk every time she gets in the car. There are over 1,000 complaints on various forums about sua instances on Jeep cherokees, channel 7 news even did a segment on it a few years back. Can you please help at all on this issue? thank you.
Check engine light comes on, occasionally begins to blink and car idles rough, sounding as if its going to stall. Car has been returned to dealership, pending repair (3rd time in past 10 days). Dealership initially claimed the computer had to be reprogrammed due to an O2 sensor, then on return to the dealership indicated that the O2 sensor needed to be replaced. As of this afternoon, the dealership stated that they are looking inside the cylinder head to see if they can determine problem.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis but was not repaired. The technician stated because the check engine lamp was not illuminated the vehicle could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000. - ll.
2011, 2012 Chrysler vehicles with the pentastar v6 3. 6 liter engine are rated to tow 5000 lbs unrestricted with the tow package installed. There is a design defect in the cooling system in that it cannot cool the engine when towing about 3500 lbs uphill. The tow vehicle starts uphill at the highway speeds of 65mph in the passing lanes with enough power to continue and suddenly without any warning, lights, etc. , the tow vehicle looses power and abruptly slows to a maximum speed of about 27mph. With all other vehicles on the road trying to get by and not slow down, this creates an extremely dangerous situation of attempting to cross 3 lanes or more to get off the road while tractor trailers have to slam on the brakes and hopefully screech to an almost stopped position to avoid killing the families in the tow vehicles. Chrysler has confirmed the problem but has refused to do anything about it and has insisted that the vehicles are working the way they were designed but are obviously not working within the advertised specifications. Chrysler does not want to change the advertised specs due to the fact that it might cost them money, even though many peoples lives are at risk. Chrysler could easily perform a recall and fix the problem, saving lives, but there would be a small monetary cost to Chrysler.
Driving down the street when white steam like smoke comes from under the hood. The smoke becomes dense and there is a smell of hot transmission fluid. The vehicle begins to power off and upon exiting the vehicle there is a strong smell of transmission fluid and a large pool of fluid discharged under the vehicle. The car was towed and returned to the dealership. The dealers technician reported, "technician performed visual inspections and clean off of fluid found the transmission cooler lines at the radiator had disconnected due to not be improper connection issues reinstalled both transmission cooler lines and clamped lines, tested pressure on both lines. Filled system and test drove and cleaned (due to massive spray from lines coming loose), pulled vehicle back into shop and rechecked fluid level and cleaned area (repeated this process several times to bring fluid level to proper level) finish cleaning engine area and verified. Parts:6 fluid-atf +4". My issue is that I had just exited a high speed, 65mph, highway and if this failure had happened on something less then a slow secondary road with no traffic, there could have been a significant accident or potential injury.
When driving between 0 to 5 miles per hour I pressed on the accelerator pedal while the auto was either on level surface or at the beginning of a small incline the auto did not move forward. Then I shifted the auto into reverse and stepped on the accelerator pedal and the auto did not move backwards. I then turned the auto off with the auto shifted into park. Then I restarted the auto and shifted into drive and pressed on the accelerator pedal and the auto did move forward. The same day I brought the auto into the Jeep dealer whom I leased the auto from just five days earlier, to identify and fix the defect causing the aforementioned problem. On Monday 11/8/10 the dealer informed me the vehicle is operating as designed and they found nothing wrong with it, and they returned the vehicle to me. I am concerned that the defect which caused the aforementioned problem on 11/6/10 could cause reoccurrence(s) of the aforementioned problem (even at higher speeds).
