1 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2021

My Jeep has been stalling multiple times when trying to start it. One night when I tried to start it, it would not turn on. I brought it to the dealership and they changed the fuel relay on it, however I just brought it back 2 days ago for the same problem. They replaced it again, however when picking it up it stalled again.

2 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2021

I took my Jeep to have fuel pump relay and alternator recalls serviced at napleton Jeep in kissimmee FL and the car broke down a few days after being serviced, had the car towed to the dealership where they charged me $189 to say it was the starter that was bad and quoted me $800, I felt put off and got the car towed to a diff private owned shop for a second opinion, the mechanic did a full diagnosis and provided proof that the starter is good and its the alternator, stated that the dealership not only installed improperly but that the part is faulty,. Ground wire was not connected to the engine and therefore it couldn't be started alternator charge wire installed in an incorrect position and tugging on harness and protective cover can't be placed over power wire alternator not charging and getting extremely hot, all of which should be covered under warranty, so I went back to the dealership and asked for the service manager, oscar, who told me he would not only not refund any money for the mis diagnosis but he would also charge me for any further repairs even tho the part that was installed two weeks ago is the one that has and issue and should one still under the same warranty. Then I was harassed by service manager who threatened violence on my family over the phone. The Jeep now even once repaired could have so many issues arise as well because of the negligence this dealership has shown, the have underqualified and unsupervised technicians doing jobs they are not ready to be doing alone. Now I worry for my safety and longevity of my vehicle. The dealership also left the car running the entire time they had it. So my battery was shot and it is brand new. I have all receipts and documents as well just your website isn't allowing to upload them all so I included a photo to show how negligent this dealership was.

3 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2020

My 2012jeep Grand Cherokee will stall as I'm coming to a stop. It doesn't alert with any codes when this happens. It is now doing this on a daily basis. The body shop informed me that a part is still not available for this issue. It stalled trining onto a on-ramp, while I was in a roundabout, as I approached a stop sign. It is happening at deceleration. No code is sent any time it stalls. The music is till playing, all lights are still on. I know it has stalled because the power steering is out and engine is off. I put the car in neutral press the break and started button to make it go again. Totally not safe while in a roundabout let alone anytime.

Vehicle has no diagnostic codes showing up but has stalled on us several times almost causing accident twice now. Also pulsates at speeds around 45 and again at 60mph. Since the last stall it now has a very rough idle. We have called dealership about recall and they state yes there is one but they do not have a fix. Are we supposed to just keep driving with these safety issues ? vehicle will stall while after driving coming to a stop at light. We lose steering ability and braking. We are usually going straight and on city street or coming off freeway.

Braking from ~35mph to make a right turn at traffic lights the car just stalls without any indication of issue. No power steering or brakes. All electronics still functional. Coast to to a stop at the side of the road, fighting the heavy steering to avoid cars in the on coming lane, place in park press brake pedal and hit start button, and the car starts right up. Drive to dealership (prime Jeep in saco, maine). Steering module clock spring was replaced last year (August 2018) as the supposed cause for this exact stalling problem that was happening last year.

14 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2018

The truck continues to stall while operating and does not turn over when trying to restart. This prevents a quick reaction to being stalled when slowing to enter or exit at an intersection. On most occasions, the car will not start and continues to crank when either using the push start, manual key fob, or auto start. It cannot be moved once stalled. If you attempt to restart too quickly or after several attempts, it will flood. This same issue was included in a previous recall for the fuel pump relay. However, it did not resolve the issue. The same behavior is experienced and is very dangerous. To provide history of failed recalls, the brake shield recall was corrected by two seperate recalls and was also a very dangerous safety issue that prevents driver control over the vehicle when stopping. The stalling occurs when coming to a stop or stopping, and when performing strong turns. These types of turns are done frequently at intersections with on coming traffic. It is very dangerous because you don't even have the ability to restart the vehicle to escape the danger.

15 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2018

Fuel pump, recall done but not effective. Almost three times a week, the Jeep Grand Cherokee does not start or stalls right after starting. This is when I am parked and will just keep cranking and not start. The dealer wants to charge me to replace the fuel pump and does not acknowledge the recall is faulty. Driving on the highway, the car stalled on me for no reason and then took 5 minutes of cranking to finally start again. Luckily I was not in the middle lane on i95. At first it happened once or twice a week, now it is almost everyday.

22 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2017

While driving home from work during rush hour traffic on the highway, the red battery light came for the first time since I owned the vehicle. Within minutes of the light appearing, the Jeep's air conditioning went off, all warning lights appeared on the dashboard and the windshield wipers turned on (without prompting them). All three of these things happened within seconds of each other so I tried to pull over to the side of the highway but the Jeep lost all power and stalled in the right lane of the highway. There was absolutely zero power so I was unable to turn my hazard lights on or put the car in neutral to roll to the breakdown lane (see attached picture). I then had to exit the Jeep into oncoming rush hour traffic in the left lane and luckily made it safety to the shoulder where I called 911 and triple a for a tow. The Jeep was towed to my local mechanic who said the alternator failed and that he had to unplug it from the battery since it was still producing excessive heat hours after it arrived there. I then called the fca customer service and referenced recall t36, since the exact same thing happened as the description provided (although I did not have any recalls on my VIN). They put me in touch with the local Jeep dealership to set up an appt so I paid for another tow there. The next day I receive a call from the service dept that my alternator failed, which drained my battery, which broke my module powertrain control computer totaling $2,134 in repairs. They cannot confirm nor deny that my Jeep is part of recall t36, but regardless since my VIN does not have any recalls on it, that I have to pay in full and that if down the road there is a recall that I will get reimbursed. I then call the fca customer service back and they check their internal system and confirm that I am not part of recall t36 and there are no outstanding recalls for my Jeep.

24 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2017

Jeep stalls suddenly while driving with no indication other than the loss of power steering. This occurs repeatedly at different speeds ranging from 15 mph in the city to 60 mph on the highway. Stalling has occurred when slowing down and also while turning.

25 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2017

2012 altitude. Sometimes when I am driving the engine will cut out. There are no warnings, no glitches in the electrical components or anything. The only way I know the engine cuts out is that there is no response from the gas pedal and I lose power steering. I have to shift into neutral, ease on the brake, press the start button, and then when it restarts I shift it back into drive and pick up where I left off. Like I said, there are no glitches in the lights or anything. No codes or engine lights or anything. I bought it in sept 2016 and its been in the shop about 9 times. They cant even get the problem to happen, let alone fix it. I emailed the Jeep and fiat ceos for a paper trail in case I got into a wreck- wanted to cover my ***- and they responded. They said they'd pay for my rental car every time I brought my Jeep in for service on this issue. So that has limited me to bringing it into the dealer. They are giving me a number to allow me to purchase a new Jeep at employee cost, but, considering I bought a 2012 in 2016, I can't afford a 2017 model. I'd have to sacrafice a lot of my current options to try to find a vehicle priced to maintain my current payments. This has happened from all speeds. It happened to me while driving around 70mph, 30mph, and even after I came to a red light, and the light turned green, I pressed the gas and got nothing. . . The only thing that I have noticed, and I'm not even sure I really noticed this, but if I'm driving hard, and go from fast to slow quickly, but not slamming on my brakes, kind of like flying down the street and then the light turns so you gotta come to a stop soon. I hope that makes sense. I'm not even sure this has anything to do with it. I have aftermarket hids installed (ddm tuning with canbus plus or whatever it is) however, it's happened day or night, lights on and lights off.

27 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

Car lost all power for steering and braking. Car stalled. Was at low speed 5-8mph turning to the right into a gas station driveway from busy roadway of speeds of 55mph. Car went straight and rolled to a stop. Grateful was parking lot and ditch in front of me and not the gas pumps or another vehicle as I had no control of the car stopping. I have twice had car to dealer for car going into limp mode. Both in year 2016. Same cylanoid each time.

28 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2016

I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited, 5. 7l engine. Purchased the vehicle used. At approximately 60,000 miles (2015) the Jeep begin to randomly stall while driving. It always happened within 10 minutes of leaving my house. Fuel levels good, didn't matter if turning left or right. Vehicle stalled, causing steering to lock. Almost in 3 accidents. Only remedy was to put it in park, Jeep would start right back up. This happened in June, August and October. After October stall, I took to the Jeep dealership. The dealership couldn't find anything unusual, and replaced the battery. The trailer taillights were not working and they recommend replace tipm. Things were fine until September 2016. On sept 2 Jeep stalls turning right, full tank of gas. On sept 6 - stalls slightly turning into suicide lane. Back to dealership. Dealership has it from 9/7-9-9. Can't replicate it, and no errors come up. They do replace recall sun visors. Sept 18 - stalls going straight on road. Again, this is in the morning, and within 10 minutes of leaving my house. Saturday oct 14. Jeep stalls again around noon time. Hadn't driven it since Friday 1pm, the day before. Full tank of gas. Died while slowing down towards a red light, going straight. Almost rear ended as a result. The dealership cant diagnose one thing that happens randomly. There is a plethora of complaints online regarding the tipm and alternator in this Jeep. My VIN isn't covered by the recalls, but it sounds like a tipm would remedy the situation. This vehicle is unsafe to drive, and Chrysler isn't helping.

31 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

32 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

On the first of March, my wife and daughter were about to start their day in the usual way. She opened the garage door and used her key fob to remote start our 2012 Jeep gc limited ( around 42k miles) ( factory installed remote starter) she walked away for less than 4 minutes and returned to see smoke coming from front passenger side of Jeep. She called for me, and pushed the aux button to be sure the vehicle was off. I came running and despite my attempts to open the hood and beat back what quickly escalated into open flames I retreated to ensure my family's safety and to be sure the emergency responders were called. Thankfully I was able to remove some potential fuel for the fire by removing our second car from the garage (also a Chrysler) and securing the door between the house and garage. Luck intervened when the flames destroyed the garage door assembly causing the garage door to fall and help remove some oxygen from the fire. Eventually first responders arrived and were able to knock down the fire with foam . Later the firemen pushed the Jeep into the driveway to ensure it was doused. Though the remote start may not be directly responsible for whatever arc sparked the fire, it's my belief that its use contributed directly to the conditions that conflagrated the situation. If the wiring harness is otherwise suspect I would not be surprised considering recent revelations on related models. The vehicle was just removed from the site today 3/9/2016 to copart facility, by insurance company for further investigation into the source of the fire.

33 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2016

Vehicle stalls when applying brakes while decelerating. All power is lost and very difficult to steer or brake. The vehicle will restart when put back into park after drifting to a stop. This is a random problem that occurs 1-2 times every couple of weeks on average. The problem has been reported to Jeep and has been at the dealer several times but they cannot reproduce the problem and there are no engine codes being generated. This is a very dangerous hazard and I have simply been lucky I have not been in a serious accident yet as a result.
