In August 2025 my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo lost engine power and stalled while driving 15 mph. There was no warning. I was able to restart the car and drive. Then while driving in traffic at 45 mph on 18 oct 2025, my Jeep abruptly lost engine power and stopped, putting my safety and the safety of my passenger at great risk as I had several cars behind me. Again, the Jeep stalled without warning. I was able to put my emergency warning lights on, then after 30 seconds, I put the car in park and restarted the engine with no problem. The Jeep drove normally. This unexpected loss of power while driving at speed in traffic on hwy 431 could have been catastrophic. This incident appears to be linked to two previous fuel pump relay recalls, the most recent being v62/NHTSA 19v-813. My Jeep was repaired by the Jeep dealer under both of these recalls which were prompted by no-start conditions and engine stall conditions. It appears the fca repair has been ineffective as my Jeep has experienced two engine stalls while driving and does have intermittant problems with start up. This most recent problem has not yet been confirmed by a dealer as the Jeep dealer cannot see my vehicle for another 2 weeks, which puts my safety at risk. There were no warning lamps or messages before the abrupt engine stalls while driving. However, for the past 6 months, I had had intermittant instances of the car not starting immediately, particularly in the morning. I would turn the key fob a few times before my Jeep would start. But it always started.
The engine stalled completely while I was at a traffic signal, preparing to make a turn onto a busy highway. Loss of power to brakes & steering since the engine completely shut down. I shifted the vehicle into park, started the engine again, shifted into drive but the vehicle would not move. Eventually (in a matter of seconds) the vehicle lunged forward and I was able to safely drive home.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 35 mph, the engine stalled and all the indicators on the instrument panel illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drive home. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 19v813000 (fuel pump). The contact spoke with an unknown dealer and was informed to wait on the recall. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the part was not available for the repair and advised the contact that they may need to replace the fuel pump; however, it may not correct the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not available. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Engine stalled while in motion on us highway 101 on 11/7/19; fortunately no crash occurred. We took into mechanic at Jeep santa maria; they had it all week from 11/8/19 to 11/15/19 and said it was fine. It appears this was caused by a faulty part that was installed pursuant to a previous recall that fca has been investigating since 2018. We are anxious to have this open NHTSA campaign number:19v813000 resolved ASAP.
When I press the push start and the brake, the engine will stall and not turn over. It has happened multiple times in the 4 years I've had it. The last time I tried to start it, it would not crank. I used jumper cables to try and revive the battery. Doing this reverted power back to my vehicle, yet it would still not turn over. I then had to put the keyfob into the ignition and try it manually. Still nothing worked and my car will not turn over and start. It makes one click, and then nothing.
Engine stalls for no reason under braking and deceleration. Happens more often when braking and turning. Loss of power steering when it happens. Does not happen frequently , more often in the cold when the car has been started. Cant replicate it when car is hot. Dangerous when it has happened on exit ramps as car has to be controlled with no power steering and car has to come to a complete stop, put in park where it has always restarted. People behind me not happy when stopping on exit ramps. Have brought to dealer after it has happened and the car has not thrown any codes. There is not real pattern to this stalling, but, having to stop the car to restart it posses a danger of getting rear ended. Happens at speeds between 30 to 60. Happens most frequently in rotaries (roundabouts) when slowing down to enter.
Engine stalls while driving without warning. This started in November 2018 and has happened 5 times since. Have taken it to 3 different repair shops and still no resolution. There was a recall back in 2015 #15v-115 to fix the fuel pump relay which could cause this to happen. Service was done per the recall. Have an active case with Jeep (fiat) but they have been no help and keep sending us the Jeep dealer. Diagnostics have been done 3 times to no avail. This is a significant safety issue as the vehicle dies while driving and the steering locks up as well as the brakes. Each time this happens the vehicle is in motion going about 40mph. Has happened while going straight and while turning. The radio stays on and no warning lights appear on the dashboard.
Engine randomly stalls for no reason while in motion, leaving the car coasting with no power brakes or power steering. Once the car is brought to a stop, it will start back up and continue driving as if nothing was wrong. Internet searches reveal that it is a common problem afflicting these models with no clear solution.
This is not the first time this has happened owned car since oct 17 the engine stalls in the middle of driving has happened 6 times. A near miss twice of hitting a tree. You loss power steering when this happens. Took to dealer and they cant find anything wrong. Taking it back tomorrow 2/1/18 to do a diagnostic test and keep the car until it does it. Very dangerous to drive! Jeep do something about it! listen to the complaints on the internet! seems very common practice for Jeep.
The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving at unknown speeds, the instrument cluster lights flashed and the engine stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 55 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The dealer could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 49,000.
Unexpected engine stall out while driving.
Unexpected engine stall while driving on freeway. This is the second time experiencing unexpected stall out while drive after the recall was completed.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while traveling at 40 mph the engine stalled. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v115000 (electrical system). The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 21,000. Ec.
I received a recall notice for the above vehicle. When I brought it to seaview Jeep in ocean NJ I was advised that the earliest appointment is September 15. My concern is that your recall notice states that "an intermittent or failed fuel pump relay could cause the engine to fail while driving and cause a crash without warning. " when I called Chrysler (800-992-1997) I was advised by the representative on the phone that the car was "more likely not to start" and "you cannot control the service schedule of the dealership". My question/concern/complaint is that how can you send out a recall that clearly states the engine could stall while driving and cause a crash without warning yet make someone wait 2 weeks for the appointment. My expectation would be that for a safety concern such as this I would not have to wait 2 weeks for the recall to be addressed when you clearly state a crash could occur please advise how this will be addressed thank you greg.
On April 27, 2015 I received important safety recall #r09/NHTSA 14v-115 stating that my vehicle had a defective fuel pump relay which could cause the engine to stall while driving and cause a crash without warning. In other words a serious possibly deadly crash could occur following the sudden shut down of the engine and power systems. To date, Jeep/Chrysler/fca repeatedly has told me there are no parts to repair the defect and no projected date for repairs. The dealer will not provide a safe loaner vehicle in the interim. So, I drive a deadly vehicle (deadly for myself and other drivers) for some indeterminate period of time. If the vehicle is unsafe as it is reported to be, it should be parked and the manufacturer and dealer should provide an immediate fix or an alternate vehicle. This situation is absurd. Have we not learned anything from the gm ignition switch situation? apparently not.
The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the engine stalled. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the fuel exchange module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
1-after quickly stopping on the side of the road to collect mail, I tried to go back into the road to continue driving but the steering wheel locked and I could not straighten the vehicle. I ended up crossing into the other side, going into the ditch and hitting a snow bank. Due to the very slow speed (I was speeding from the parked position) and to the luck that there were no other cars coming on the opposite direction, no harm was done. Dealership never found anything wrong with it. 2- I have had two safety recalls on this vehicle that have not been addressed on a reasonable time frame. For one of them, my car is at risk of fire under the hood, and for the other one, there could be engine stall and crash. Jeep has informed of both, but has not been able to provide my dealership with the appropriate parts for fixing the problems. So I have been driving around with small children in the back seat, risking myself and my family's lives and all they can do is tell me nothing can be done and good luck? because it's monetarily cheaper to pay for lost lives than to avoid the loss? something needs to be done, this vehicle was not a cheap one, however we have been treated like they are doing us a favor just for letting us a know we are at risk of dying from car crash due to it's malfunctions.
On three separate occasions over the past two months, I have experienced an unanticipated engine stall when decelerating from highway speed in order to make a turn (both right and left). In each of these instances, as I was in the turn (or immediately before), the engine stalled, leaving me without power-assisted steering or brakes. This makes the vehicle difficult to control, as the amount of physical force needed to complete a turn is very substantial. In each instance, after bringing the vehicle under control, I was able to restart it by placing the shift selector in "neutral," applying pressure to the brake pedal, and pushing the engine start button. While I have sufficient arm strength to have been able to maintain control in each of these instances, it is, at a minimum, a surprising and unexpected event to have steering and brake assist fail simultaneously. A smaller person could easily lose control of the vehicle under these circumstances. I do not know whether, when this occurs, the airbags are disabled, but that may also be a matter of concern.
