1 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2020

I was driving on highway 26 west bound in oregon just outside of portland. My car has ecodiesel engine in it. I usually buy gas when it is about a quarter tank of fuel. I had about quarter tank of fuel and about 150 miles range left. I was on the left lane and traveling at about 60 mph. All the sudden my engine stopped instantly on the left lane of highway 26. All the cars behind me hit the brakes not to rear end me. My car's engine stopped and slowed down so quickly. It was scary. I tried to pull over to the right side of the highway. Once the car was parked, it said that battery saving mode. It would crank up but not start the engine. I called a mobile mechanic over. He checked the battery and alternator and said the battery is strong and no blown fuses whatsoever. He then went under the car and listen the fuel pump and said that it sounds very bad. He had beliefs that I had problems with my fuel system, maybe a broken fuel pump. He read the codes out of car computer and they all were related to the fuel systems. I started doing some online research and found out that Jeep Grand Cherokees has a faulty design of fuel tanks and if the fuel goes below the quarter tank level. Then pump does not work properly. Upon reading this, I called a friend who brought me 5 gallons of diesel and we put the diesel inside the tank and the car started immediately. I drove it to a near by gas station and filed up the tank full. I think this car has some sort of faulty design of fuel pump. It will cause a fatal accident if it does not get corrected by the manufacturer as soon as possible. When the engine stopped suddenly, the car actually swerved around little bit. This incident could have ended fatally if I was not quick enough. I am writing this to let you gusy know about this flaw about Grand Cherokee ecodiesels 3. 0 engines.

2 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2019

Vehicle was being refueled, ( fuel level was approx 1/3 full and was being completely filled). Vehicle would not start after fueling and was towed to a nearby mechanic for diagnosis and repair. Problem was diagnosed as a fuel pump failure. Upon removal of fuel pump from gas tank, and replacement, vehicle again operated normally. An examination of the failed fuel pump revealed that the fuel pump electrical harness connection had overheated and melted - certainly a very dangerous condition for a component that resides in the gas tank.

3 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2019

I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 3. 0l ecodiesel engine that had the approved Jeep v08 recalled installed. Since having a certified technician install the v08 emissions recall, my vehicle has been back to the dealer repeatedly to have the following parts replaced: 14 total fuel injectors, fuel lines (high and low pressure) from tank to engine replaced twice, fuel tank cleaned, def injector replaced, numerous sensors and the fuel pump replaced. Each "fix" works for anywhere from 1 - 6 weeks before a light comes on again and the vehicle needs to be taken back to the dealer. Each of these repairs has included additional charges that were required to be paid out of pocket. Prior to the v08 emissions recall, I drove the vehicle over 100,000 miles without an issue. Since the recall, driving habits have not changed, but miles per gallon have dropped 2-3 mpg. The dealer and Jeep have also indicated that since the recall was installed, the vehicle must be driven differently compared to prior to the recall. According to the v08 recall notice, Jeep promised the recall would not affect the way the vehicles drives and also would not affect mileage, which has been proven false.

4 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2019

My vehicle has a long crank but will not turn over. Stuck numerous times. The dealer said they can't find the problem but I see online that earlier models were recalled for the same problem. It was said a faulty fuel pump relay. Am wondering if this is the same problem.

5 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While refueling the vehicle, the fuel filler neck came off while removing the fuel pump. The failure caused fuel to spill from the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified. The failure mileage was 80,000.

6 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2018

Car cut off without any warning in traffic. I was almost rear ended. I had to call 911 because I was blocking traffic. Car was towed. It was determined the fuel pump and fuel gauge sender unit needed replacing which is expensive. This car is just 4 years old and I've kept it serviced. If I had been on the interstate I could have been injured. I have receipts.

7 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2018

The vehicle stalls while you are driving it, transmission light comes on. It says place in park to restart but sometimes takes forever and then it sputters. Sometimes when you turn the vehicle off you can still hear the fuel pump operating. This has happened several times now. I have a child and if anything happens- like getting ran over by oncoming traffic and either of us gets hurt- someone is going to pay dearly. It's not like Jeep Chrysler doesn't know about this problem. Please make them pull all of these vehicles off of the road before someone gets killed. Thank you! the last time it stalled was during my father's funeral. . Thanks Jeep!!! it states the last time and miles. . . Let me tell you, this isnt the only time!!.

8 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2017

Fuel pump failure at 1/4 tank of gas. Occurred while making a left out of a parking lot. Suddenly no forward propulsion of vehicle when pressing gas, in the middle of exiting the parking lot. Cleared the left turn with slow forward momentum and car shut off after maneuvering to side of the road. Car unable to start after that. Had it towed to the dealer. Dealer advised of secondary fuel pump failure, which assists when less than 1/4 tank of gas available. A search of forums indicates others having a similar problem.

9 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2017

Issue: when I put fuel into my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, whether I am pumping or whether it is on auto pump, the fuel spits back out. Even if you try holding the fuel pump lever so that only very minimal fuel is coming out, it continuously "stops"(like it should when the tank has become full) it's almost as if the fuel cannot go down into the vehicle, as the vehicle thinks after 3 seconds of pumping it is full and spits back out(usually all over my hands or clothes).

10 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2015

Car completely shut off while driving on a busy street without warning. Dearlership says nothing is wrong with it and wait for the car to shut off on a regular basis. Then maybe they will be able to pin point the issue. This is the second issue with the car on 7/31/2015 car shut off while driving on a busy street without warning. Turns out the fuel pump went bad.

11 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2014

The vehicle, a Jeep gc with v6 turbo diesel, just died while on the freeway and had to be towed. We tried to start it about 10 times over the next 36 hours without success. Then it did start and drove ok for about an hour and a half on the highway and then died immediately while driving 75 mph. It was towed to a Chrysler dealer where they said they replaced the fuel pump.
