1 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2026

As I was on my home on 2/20/26, I encountered some issues. I made a right turn onto the highway and my vehicle did a little drift but made this weird sound and the front end shook. There were no warning lights or dings that came across the dash. I pulled over into the closest parking lot to see if I could notice anything. I couldn't because I only had the light from a parking lot lamp. So decided to try and make it home which was another 15 minutes away. As I got back on the road and pressed the accelerator, I could here ticking sounds coming from the rear of the vehicle. When I approached the next traffic light and pressed the brakes, the front end shook, making the steering wheel shake, and the rear end drifted left. I made another left and pressed the accelerator. I got up to around 40 phone. The vehicle started pulling to the left and then stabilizing. I turned to my suspension articulation screen. As I was driving and the vehicle still scaring me to the point of a heart-a-stroke, I could see the axles trying to maintain contact with the road. At the same time giving me the feel of a loose steering wheel and a bad suspension. The vehicle continued to shift and shake and feel loose. When you turn into my neighborhood and before my house, there are two deep curves and a lake. I went into the first curve fine until the end of it. (at this time the lake is on my passenger side). As I was coming out of it, the steering wheel feels like its hard to turn or locked. I have to turn left into the second curve. The vehicle would not turn and the rear end felt like it was drifting right. At the edge of the road there is a slight downhill and the lake about 50 ft or so. Luckily, I was able to make the turn before going of the side of the road. Once I made it through the curve, the vehicle did do some shaking, loose steering, shaking, and back end motion until I parked in the yard. Its been parked since then. Thank you for your patience and attention to this matter.

4 Suspension problem

5 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2022

The air ride suspension failed and is available for inspection. The "service air suspension immediately" notification appeared while driving. The problem has been confirmed by stellantis dealership. The components were inspected by the manufacturer and insurance. There was not an indication of failure prior to failing. Stellantis technician claims the air suspension experienced an electrical failure causing an internal leak on all (4) air bags. The only remedy is to replace the entire suspension system. I do not know the safety implications of this failure if I continued driving the vehicle.

6 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2022

Rear shocks leaked all fluid and the vehicle became very hard to control on rough surfaces. Had the shocks changed and the new ones did the same thing within one month. Now the shocks are on back order and had to be replaced with aftermarket shocks.

8 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2021

Randomly my Grand Cherokee overland 4wd stared spraying oil all over the rear of the vehicle. Took it to Jeep and they said the rear deferential was shot and that the hose had melted off due to over heating. The vehicle never once displayed any indication of any failure or overheating. When I asked how could there not be any warning lights I was told it just happens. After researching this issue I discovered it's a very common problem. My concern is the vehicle could have easily locked up and caused the vehicle to flip or cause an accident with no warning.

9 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2021

My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee's air ride suspension has failed twice and I only have 11,670 miles on it. When the dealership had vehicle both times it took over a week to complete repairs. Suspension just failed was at its lowest level and there was no warning.

10 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2020

The air ride suspension says it's stuck in off-road 2 but is visibly stuck in the lowest setting. When driving it is very bumpy, almost worse than offroading. I do t think our safety is at risk. The problem has not been looked at by any professionals or independent dealers. It has not been inspected. We can't remember the exact time we noticed the message, but roughly around December 2020- January 2021. It is not a light it is a message that pops up a handful of times while driving.

13 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

I have took my vehicle for a shifter recall. They did a programming they said and that it should have fixed the problem. I explained to Chrysler capital about how my vehicle would shift into neutral after throwing itself into other gears. I would have to turn off the vehicle and begin driving again. Now my vehicle hardly drives and the transmission makes a loud cracking noise. This recall made my transmission go out.

14 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2020

This winter the air suspension light came on stating to service air suspension. The suspension does not work in cold weather and freezes at riding level. The ride is rough due to air suspension not working. When it is warm this doesn't happen. This light also turns on while driving down the highway. I have a child and do not want her to get hurt in the process so I stopped driving it this winter.

15 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2019

On February 11, 2019, the safety mechanism in the driver's side headrest deployed while the vehicle was in park. This is a safety concern because there was no collision and headrest can affect a driver's ability to remain focused while driving. Mileage at time headrest "deployed" was 78,000. 16 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2019

In cold temperatures, the Jeep quadralift air suspension system freezes and shorts out the relay. This renders the air suspension useless and makes driving unsafe. My vehicle was fixed only to have the unit fail a week later with the same issue. There is clearly a defect in the design of the system in that it does not work in cold temperatures.

17 Suspension problem

Jeep Grand Cherokee power steering leak! we’re having the same problem that other Jeep owners are having, the steering rack leaks on the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland. The leak was discovered through regular maintenance check in 2018. We filled the reservoir with new fluid, it was fine for the entire year. It wasn’t until July 2021 that we discovered that fluid was leaking from the steering rack and pinion and spraying fluid on to the engine. It got so bad that we had to fill the reservoir daily! it appears that Jeep knew about this problem since 2012 but failed to do anything about it. . Read more...

24 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

I recently purchased a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. At highway speeds the vehicle will turn, not drift but turn, to the left. I have had the vehicle in for service three times for this issue each time by the service department at cross Jeep in louisville. I was told today that the Chrysler engineers have determined that this issue is ‘normal’ for the 2014/15 Grand Cherokees because of the air suspension. To me this is certainly not normal. At a minimum this is a nuisance problem but also a safety issue when a vehicle will turn to the left on its own. I am very concerned about this issue and equally concerned about Chrysler response or rather lack of response.

25 Suspension problem

27 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2014

Front cv boot clamp failure: noted grease on left front wheel, looked underneath to find axle grease splattered all over inside of the rim, brake caliper, and most front left axle components. Clamp which holds the cv joint boot in place at the wheel was missing and cv boot was off, allowing grease to escape from cv joint. The same problem has been reported numerous times on this site, as well as on the Jeep owner forums, and seems to affect 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees built between early March and mid-April. Many owners have reported both cv boot clamps failing (both front axles), at different times. At this point Jeep has not issued any type of recall for the issue. The affected axle has been since replaced, after a 6 day wait for the part.

28 Suspension problem

29 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2014

Purchased brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee overland 4x4 with a 03/14 build date on may 26, 2014. On may 30th, 2014. . . . . 5 days later. . . . . . Noticed an excessive amount of grease on the inside of both front rims. After researching the issue, came across a blog on Jeepforum. Com that described and provided pictures of others with same build date that had experienced the same problem. Notified Jeep customer care hotline of the issue and they claimed to have no knowledge of issue. Took vehicle to dealership it was purchased from and they diagnosed the issue as a loose clamp on the front cv driveshaft axles. Both sides had to be replaced. Dealership claimed to be unaware of the issue affecting a larger number of Jeep and Dodge owners. . Read more...

30 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2014

Both cv axle boots leaked all the grease out. Had the axles replaced with new parts from the mfg, and both boots leaked again after only 475 miles or less. Appears that the bands on the boots are not tight enough, or the boots may be too short. They seem to pull apart if wheels are steered close to maximum radius. The issue is that the grease is slung all over the wheels and onto the front disc brake assemblies. This can cause loss of brakes or severe braking issues that can lead to a serious accident. I called Jeep customer service and they are aware of the issue but told me no recall is current. They called my dealer in wilmington nc, and I have another appointment to replace. These will be the third set of cv axles. The Jeep forums online are full of this issue. Seems to be a problem with vehicles built around March/April 2014. This should be a recall with a recognized approved fix. There are probably several vehicles that are affected by this and the owners are completely unaware of the problem as it requires you to look for it. Dangerous.

31 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2014

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that there was grease leaking from underneath the vehicle. The contact discovered that the clamps of the cv joint were not connected. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the cv joint housing was not connected. The clamps on both sides were hanging loose and the rubber housing was cut open allowing the grease to leak. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The vehicle had not been repaired because the part was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 2,400.

32 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2014

I noticed grease coating inside of front wheel while washing car. Upon inspection, the cv boot appeared ajar and the assembly was exposed. Only 170 miles on the vehicle before failure of component. With a little research on Jeep garage forum, many consumers are complaining, specifically with build dates around March 2014, which this car is presumed built around. Unknown if second failure of passenger side cv boot is immanent. . Car is now in the dealer lot awaiting assembly component.

33 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2014

Brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee (less than 1800 miles). Discovered oil and grease in the inside of the front rims. Took vehicle to dealership and was told that the cv joints on both of the front axles had failed. Advised by dealership that it would not be too safe to drive because of possible freeze/seizure of the axles. Turned vehicle in for warranty repair. Found online (including this site) that this is common on new vehicles from 2014 production dates. Vehicle is now scheduled to get replacement parts approximately on 5/30, but no guarantees. Notified Jeep (Chrysler llc) of the issue and opened an internal complaint case.

34 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2014

Failed cv boot on front drivers side wheel leading to grease expulsion throughout wheel. . . Possibly in brake pad as well on brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee with 220 miles.

35 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2014

Two days after purchasing my brand new Jeep, I noticed a grease all over the inside of the front passenger side wheel. The other three wheels were normal. Upon closer inspection, I could see that the cv boot had come apart and grease was leaking out of it and onto the wheel, axle, shocks and every other component surrounding the leak. I am specifically concerned that the grease could get on the brake discs, causing for difficulty stopping the vehicle. I took it to the nearest dealer where it was confirmed that the part was defective and I would need a new axle. The part unfortunately is backordered with no estimation as to when it will be available because this problem is a common one and there are new Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge durango owners all over the country who need this very same part for the same issue. There are likely thousands of people driving these vehicles with no idea that their front axles are malfunctioning and it is only a matter of time before it causes an accident that could leave someone seriously injured.
