1 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2025

After having my 22 Jeep Grand Cherokee at obx Jeep in nc for over 10 months for electrical and camera issues it was shipped to brown daub Jeep in easton, PA for overdue PA state inspection due to the length of the repair in nc. Supposedly obx Jeep said it was repaired but car immediately had electrical issues including fcw off dash light. The PA Jeep dealer corrected electrical issues following Jeep star publication and it was returned to me July 3, 2025. Fcw off dash light has come back on on August 8, 2025 and obx Jeep is indicating I must again leave it with them to further diagnose the issue.

2 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2025

On April 12th my husband and I were driving our Jeep after it had a recall and update to fix the recall of a battery issue on all 4xe models. We were doing 45 mph down the road and it threw an error code that said “service hybrid electric vehicle system”, “service emergency braking system” the Jeep then shut off and said for us to push the brake and press start for us to turn the car on in the middle of the road. We were able to safely get off the road, when we came to a stop the car put itself into park automatically. We had to start it a couple of times to make sure it was ok to turn around and drive home. It was then towed to the dealership. They told us they could see the issue logged in the system but they could not replicate the same issue after driving it. They told us that we had to come and pick up the Jeep and I told them how unsafe that made me feel for us and everyone on the road. They told us there’s nothing they could do for us. We got the car back and another issue arose where are passive entry switch became corroded and our car kept unlocking itself throughout the night. The day we got it back from them we were driving it and we got the same “service hybrid electric vehicle system” again. So I brought our Jeep back again and they told me in the service department they’ve been working with the engineers at Jeep and they are waiting for an update to fix it and it’s one of four in the area with this issue and Jeep is fully aware of the severity of the issue. They also told me they would be holding on to our car until it’s fixed. I was called by the head of the service department at that dealership and was told they need their loaner car back and they got word they’ll maybe have a fix for our car in November. They knowingly gave us our completely unsafe Jeep back and told us to try for lemon law - with all parties knowing the severity of the security and lives put at risk on the road. We have gotten this error code many times and are told there is no fix.

3 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

Airbags failed to deploy in a front crash. Passenger side curtain air bags deployed, but none of the others deployed. The lane departure or lane keeping assistance did not work. The vehicle slowly swerved off of the highway with no safety features kicking in to help keep it on the road. No automatic emergency braking started. The vehicle was still going with the cruise control on following the collision. As of 3/20/2025 the vehicle is still available for inspection. This is the first report of this malfunction. The local sheriff was contacted following the accident. I do not have knowledge of who all has inspected the vehicle. There were no warnings or messages that the safety systems were not working. Yes, our safety was at risk. As the driver of the vehicle, I have broken my c2 vertebrae in my neck.

4 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2025

I have some major safety concerns with my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, specifically with the aeb. Today was the second time that my automatic emergency braking came on while I’m driving down the highway at 60 mph. The first time was in November. The roads were dry, no other cars coming toward me, driving on a straight stretch, with one car a safe distance behind. My Jeep went from 60 to 0 slamming on the brakes so hard and flashing the aeb lights and dinging on the dash. Seat belts locked up tight and gave you a hard fast whip lash forward. Very terrifying like what is even happening?! the car behind me thank goodness had enough time to slam on their brakes and not rear end me! as fast as you could even comprehend what was happening, the lights and dinging stop and you can drive again. I was like maybe a leaf or something blew over the sensor and kind of wrote it off because nothing came up on my Jeep app. Fast forward to today, February 25th. Again roads are dry, no one is coming towards me, driving 60 mph in a straight stretch and wham the auto emergency brakes slam on again! hard brake from 60-0 mph. Aeb lights flashing and dinging, locking seat belts and whiplashing your head forward as you screech to an uncontrolled stop. I had absolutely no control over my brakes or gas! this time I’m livid bc my children were in the car with me! thank goodness everyone was properly wearing seatbelts and in car seats, and I had both hands on the steering wheel, and it was not on a bend in the road because this could have been very dangerous and not ended well! this is not ok and there is nothing at all that blocked a sensor or would have had any reason to cause the Jeep to engage this feature. I should not have to be afraid to drive my Jeep and now it’s literally terrifying to drive it bc you never know if it’s going to happen. It needs addressed and fixed ASAP and all Jeep owners should be made aware of this very dangerous situation!.

5 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2025

The vehicle came to a screeching stop with no visible reason for doing so. Three cars behind me also had to come to an abrupt and dangerous stop to avoid me. I pulled out of my driveway, began to drive, reached 10 mph, then came to a full brake, causing tires to screech. The speed of traffic behind me was approx 25mph.

6 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2024

My Jeep, when using adaptive cruise control, will occasionally apply emergency breaking when a vehicle passes alongside me in an adjacent lane in the same direction of travel. I’ve had other cars directly behind me when this happens and it appears to other drivers like I’m “break checking” them. Usually it’s triggered when the passing adjacent vehicle is a tractor trailer or a truck pulling a trailer. Furthermore, the actual early warning forward crash detection does not work at all. I have no warning lights alerting me of a malfunction.

7 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2024

Randomly, and without warning, the instruments, gauges, and displays will switch into a language I do not speak or understand (italian). Coinciding with the switch to italian language, cluster and radio display settings revert back to default settings, auto door locks and paddle shifter becomes inoperative (with no menu to enable), pedestrian emergency brake (peb) lamp or forward collision warning (fcw) lamp turns on with no way to re-enable safety features, units of measurement including speed, temperature, etc. All change, and many other random settings change as well. ***this is clearly a dangerous situation because of all the functions and gauges that change, and the fact it is difficult if not impossible to recover from this due to the language of the setting menus, and the complexity of discovering and navigating through all these changes. I have taken it to the dealer four times. They provide fix that last a week, then say there is nothing they can do and to wait for a possible software update, but none has come and it has been almost a year. When this happens, even if one is able to wade through all the settings menus and change setting back, some items cannot be reset (like the fca off lamp). According to various Jeep owner forums, some dealers have been able to reset something and temporarily correct the issue, but they charge for this service, and the issue returns randomly again. Here is an example forum discussion, indicating many if not all vehicles are affected: [xxx] because this is dangerous (for settings/gauges/units to no longer be useful while driving), and it occurs randomly, I strongly believe this issue should be a manufacturer recall. I am available for any needs and have all paperwork from the four Jeep visits. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

8 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2024

While passing through an intersection the aeb brought the vehicle to a full stop despite no forward traffic or obstructions. Warning system lights lights for other systems (traction control, airbags, etc. ) lit up in the dash. A vehicle traveling behind nearly collided in light of the unwarranted braking. After coming to a complete stop the vehicle released the brake on its own and shut off the other system warning lights. Normal operation ensued.

9 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2024

A service was scheduled to repair the rear view camera visibility in which the dealership failed to complete. The recall repair performed did not fix the situation. The rear view camera still shows up as a blue screen as well as the parksense sensors not working at all. This is a huge safety issue as nothing is shown when backing up and no sensors work. This problem occurred randomly while starting the vehicle and has not worked since then.

10 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2024

While making a protected left turn at a traffic control signal, with oncoming traffic also turning left at the same time, the automatic emergency braking engaged. I was unable to override the aeb, and the vehicle came to a sudden, complete stop halfway through the turn. The vehicle behind almost impacted my vehicle due to the erroneous braking.

11 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2024

Today was the second time the aeb engaged while I was driving with no apparent reason. The first was in Nov 2023 while driving on the interstate at about 70 mph. The aeb engaged, slamming the car to an almost stop, alarm blared for a moment and then the car continued operating with no apparent codes or warning lights. Today it did it again while traveling about 30 mph. I was slowing down to turn into a drive. I was still headed straight with no cars around and the aeb engaged, slamming the car to a full stop, with the alarm and the dash flashing something in red. The car then drove off fine with no warning lights or indicators on the dash. I cannot reproduce the aeb reponse. In response to the first occurrence, the dealer “flashed” the software last year. I intend to take it in tomorrow for the reoccurrence. I believe it to be a safety issue not only in that my back hurts terribly from the whiplash of a stop as sudden as hitting a wall, but because had there been a car behind me on either occasion, it is almost certain they would have had to make a dramatic and dangerous swerve to avoid it or rear ended me.

12 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2024

April 1, 2024, I was backing out of a parking spot on the 4th floor of the parking garage at work when my car displayed an sos on the radio monitor and then my Jeep Grand Cherokee shut off and would not restart. I then had to call parking for my job to redirect traffic because I was preventing other vehicles from exiting the garage because my vehicle was unable to restart and I had to have it towed back to the dealership in waynesboro GA and pay $120 to have this done. I waited over an hour for a tow truck to come and it is still unclear why this keeps happening. I am afraid that the next time it happens I may loss my life. I also called the dealership and Jeep wave to see if there was a way to restart the Jeep but no one was able to assist with the request. The vehicle is really becoming a problem for me.

13 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2024

While driving on the highway with the adaptive cruise control set to 77mph, the forward collision alert went off and tapped the brakes while passing a vehicle towing a trailer in the lane to the right. Looking back at video on my dash cam, there was nothing in the road that should have set off the warning and the other vehicle was within their lane the entire time. I have had several false warnings in the past but this was the first time it applied the brakes.

14 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2023

- my spare tire, lane assist, and/or emergency breaking, which none went into effect during the incident. - I was forced off the road where I collided with a parked car on the side of the street, which led me to being taken by ambulance to the local hospital. - not yet, my vehicle is currently at a body shop being repaired. - I asked my insurance to investigate when they went for the appraisal, but am unsure if it was done. - no warnings were given prior to the collision.

15 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

I was turning at an intersection when I got rear-ended. I do not recall the car stopping right before I got hit, but there is video that shows the my Jeep stopped suddenly during the intersection right before I was rear-ended. It appears the oncoming car turning the opposite way got too close causing my automatic braking system to immediately stop my car while I was driving. There is no other explanation as to why the Jeep just suddenly stopped as I know I did not press on the brakes myself.

16 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2023

Vehicle sets automatic brake when backing up. The back up camera turns red as if something was blocking when nothing is there. When attempting to go in reverse the car kept stoping on its own and putting the emergency break on. It took multiple attempts to get out of the parking lot and has happened more than once.

17 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2023

Had multiple close encounters with vehicles in front of us suddenly stopping and no response from system, also front parking sensors do not indicate when approaching an object until almost in contact, might get a visual on dash cluster, then a the audible afterwards, long time in between getting back in vehicle and starting ti leave, now sensors are both visual and beeping one more item, using the self parking feature, gad to apply brakes before feeling that our vehicle was going to hit vehicle behind us in spot.

18 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2023

Twice in the last month I was driving to work on a two lane road without any objects in the roadway and the forward collision warning system automatically applied the breaks hard enough for my coffee to splash out of my coffee cup. It occurred at almost the same spot on the road. However, I drive this road at least twice a day. I'm concerned that it might apply the breaks randomly while driving on the highway, thus causing an accident. I have reported it to the dealer. Despite me relaying my safety concern to them, I am unable to get an appointment until July 8th.

19 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2023

I was turning at a intersection, there was no car in-front only on the side , as I was turning , my Jeep suddenly made an emergency beeping sound and break as if I was goin to crash into a car or something. Clearly I was just turning . The break was so hard I even thought I had gotten hit in the back or I had hit something in the front ! the car behind me had to stop and act fast as well otherwise I would have really been hit by him/her. I called my dealer since I had just bought my car 2weeks ago. I have a appt to get it look at , they told me it might be my sensor being dirty or something but I feel like this is a concern Jeep should take care of. Or it will really cause an accident I don’t feel safe driving my Jeep at all now! especially doing turns or just thinking it might breaking when I am driving much faster next time. I’m taking my Jeep to my dealer service dept. Picture below are evidence of appts , and having to get a rental because of my report.

20 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2023

Going down highway at 40 mph and no cars in front of us or besides us and vehicle activates brakes out of no where. Jeep is been at dealer for last week and unsure what happened and are reluctant to return it to us not knowing if it will do it again.

21 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2023

Upon startup power steering was disabled and the console message "power steering available service required". Blind spot detection and lane departure also showed as in-op. Wheel was very hard to turn. After traveling a few hundred feet I determined that the car was not safe to drive. After two vehicle restarts the problem cleared. If this happened at speed, in traffic, a serious accident is likely. Dealership is unable to look at problem for weeks. This is a serious safety issue which requires immediate attention from NHTSA!.

22 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2022

2nd time in last 2 months loss of power steering and all warning lights came on dash while driving. Very difficult to steer and would have not been able to make emergency maneuver. Vehicle was in shop for 30 days for same issue and power steering component was replaced but problem occurred again. If this had occurred when making a turn I would of been unable to control vehicle.

23 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2022

Power steering failed while vehicle was operating at highway speeds. After several ignition restarts power steering was restored. Several auxiliary safety systems failed at the same time.

24 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2022

Advanced brake assist / emergency assist issue - while highway driving, during a sunny day and with no cars for at least 1 mile the system engaged the emergency brake as if it detected an eminent accident. This was at highway speeds so caused some commotion in the car. Once safely stopped in a rest area I turned off that system. The next day the active lane management system stated it needed service, that later went away. Moreover when the brake pedal is depressed the peddle pulses, leading me to believe the rotors are warped. This SUV only has 3300 miles on it. It is scheduled to go to the dealership next week.

25 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2022

Driving approximately 25 mph on a road with a 30 mph speed limit, cars are behind me, nobody is in front of me, the Jeep suddenly slammed on its brakes to a full stop for absolutely no reason, cars behind me had to run off the road to avoid hitting me. 2 people yelling at me out of their window.

26 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2022

We have a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. With the automatic emergency braking system turned on, the vehicle slammed the brakes in the middle of an intersection almost causing an accident. Fortunately the vehicle behind us was able to avoid a collision, but this is an unsafe setting. It has done this twice since we purchased the car in Jan. Of 2022. The setting remains turned off now.

27 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2022

My vehicle has a faulty front camera system that began at around 1800 miles. When driving, multiple lights will illuminate on the dash. The cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keep system, and emergency automatic brakes will shut off. It has been in the shop off and on since may 13,2022. Dealership has been replaced multiple parts, but is unable to get camera system to recalibrate and function properly. Car manufacturer, Jeep, has gotten involved and can not seem to figure out what is wrong either.

28 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2022

The contact's girlfriend owns a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee l. The contact stated that while his girlfriend was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 220.
