Aeb system engaged emergency braking for no apparent reason when traveling at >35mph on a busy road with the flow of traffic. My face actually hit the steering wheel and a car traveling behind me barely stopped in time to avoid rear ending me. The aeb system has repeatedly displayed warning lights in the dash previously. For each occurrence, the vehicle was serviced at the dealership and reassurances were provided each time that the underlying issue was remedied with reprogramming and/or replacement of electrical control modules, however the recurrent nature of the issue (and many other issues surrounding the electrical system in my grand wagoneer) doesn't instill confidence in the "fix" they're providing. At this point in time, I don't feel safe driving my grand wagoneer, as I don't know when the vehicle will involuntarily slam on the brakes in traffic and cause an accident.
I am filing this complaint regarding my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe due to repeated and ongoing electrical system failures that present a serious safety hazard. Beginning in April 2025, the vehicle began displaying the warning “service hybrid electrical system. ” shortly after the warning appears, the vehicle will often shut down completely while in operation. I have taken the vehicle to an authorized Jeep dealership on multiple occasions. Each time, I was informed that Jeep is aware of the defect but that no repair is available, as a required software update has not yet been released. In June 2025, I escalated the issue directly to Jeep. During this time, I experienced an incident in which the vehicle lost all power and shut down on a highway, creating a significant risk of collision. Jeep representatives acknowledged the defect as a known safety concern but advised that there was no available fix. Because I cannot afford to park the vehicle indefinitely, I have been forced to continue driving it despite the dangers. Jeep has only provided one month’s car payment as a “goodwill” gesture, which in no way addresses the underlying safety hazard. In September 2025, after seeing a news report about a recall affecting this model, I contacted Jeep again. Initially, Jeep denied that a recall had been issued. Only after I provided them with the recall notice did they confirm that a recall was in effect. To date, no remedy or repair timeline has been provided. This issue has persisted for several months. Jeep has admitted that the defect is a safety concern, yet they have failed to provide a safe and operable vehicle. I, my children, and other motorists have been placed at extreme risk due to Jeep’s inaction. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate Jeep’s handling of this defect, their delay in providing a remedy, and their failure to ensure that affected vehicles are safe to operate.
While driving, vehicle begins shifting down and jerking to stop. Emergency brake engages while driving.
While driving my 2023 grand wagoneer the serv 4wd light and dash spelled out service four wheel drive, it lit up the anti collision light, ecs, tcs, and hold!. The parking brake also engaged automatically while driving at least 4 times. This is a serious safety concern to allow a vehicle to continue driving with the ability to automatically engage the parking brake while driving. The safety of my entire family was put at risk. I currently have the vehicle sitting at the dealership to be diagnosed and reproduced as the vehicle lost all power after this incident. Another serious safety concern is the total loss of power with no notice. This could easily have been while I was driving and caused a serious accident and possible fatalities.
Was driving in a neighborhood and slowly turning at a 4 way stop, parking brake self engaged causing the car to slam to a stop and was unable to press gas. Had to put the car in park and restart (with shutoff for 30 seconds) before I could move and was stuck sitting in the middle of an intersection.
Vehicle wouldn’t go into gear June 2025 was towed due to service engine, abs braking error, service hybrid error. Messages were cleared and declared “no fix” wait for stellantis update. 7/2025 vehicle service hybrid went on, vehicle lost acceleration when turning onto road. Brought back to Jeep service indicated “no fix” stellantis/Jeep aware of issue. Customer states serive hybrid light turns on and the vehicle is losing power on and off verified concern, code b273c-00, documentation from Jeep this issue, it is a known issue with no repair available at this time, it is not recommended to park the vehicle inside until a repair can be performed warranty courtesy vehicle inspection section: see attached know your vehicle report for inspection results warranty claim type:.
Starting at around 12k miles, my odometer started flashing and backup cameras completely stopped working, unable to see while backing up, at the same time the active lane management and auto emergency braking went out as well, took my car into the dealership and was told pam module was not good and covered under manufacturer warranty, even after pam module was replaced, the active lane management and auto emergency braking is still not working.
This vehicle does not alert or activate forward collision warnings or automatic braking. Other reports from 2022-2023 by Grand Cherokee owners confirm that the system is not working for many Grand Cherokee.
The automatic emergency braking system activates randomly while driving abruptly stopping the vehicle in traffic. This has happened several times and we no longer feel safe driving. Luckily no one has been behind us when it happens otherwise I feel a crash would be unavoidable. The vehicle has now been to the dealer twice with no repairs made. The techs are always unable to duplicate the concern. Last time this happened my wife was driving around 40mph when the crash warning message flashed and stopped the vehicle. (no one was in the way).
Received over the air update that continues to fail. This over the air update shut down my driver information screen and altered the driving measures and safety features. This vehicle continues to receive over the air updates that freezes my driver information and infotainment screens. This results in me having to stop an disconnect the battery to reset/ restore safe driving information. Vehicle receives phantom vehicle warning and error indications.
Multiple times during the day I have a number of alerts popping up in my dashboard. These include the blind spot monitoring which continues to go on and off. Braking system, ect. Please see pictures.
I have towed this vehicle behind my motorhome for the past year and have used a brake buddy system to stop the vehicle should it ever break away from the tow brackets. I used the brake buddy system for 5 years on a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee prior to buying this 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have never had any issues before. Recently, while towing the vehicle, I set it up for towing as Jeep recommends and either had a malfunction of the automatic electronic brakes (aeb) or the brake buddy. Even though the tires never developed a flat spot on them due to dragging the vehicle, there was pressure applied to the brake pedal that caused the brakes to get so hot that the rubber brake lines melted at the fittings or blew out of the fittings causing me to lose all fluid. The nthsa requires that all light-duty vehicles have aeb systems installed on them by 2026. I questioned Jeep as to the cause of my issue and they determined it was not their fault. I contacted brake buddy and they claimed they were just recently made aware of this problem and have since determined their system is not compatible with aeb equipped vehicles. I have talked to several installers that set up tow vehicles to be towed and they are of aware of this. Who has the responsibility to inform the public and industry that there is a problem here? Jeep advertises their vehicle is towable with all 4 wheels on the ground but makes no mention of having to install a state law required braking system in the tow vehicle or potential compatibility issues. Had this tow vehicle come loose, it could have cause damage and potentially the loss of life!.
Since purchase, I have had problems with the u connect system, which at times renders all communication and some luxury items to be inoperable 1 week ago, car completely had both batteries drain spontaneously . Dealer replaced both batteries with no further explanation. On 5/21, on highway trip, warning lights came on, lane assist, blind spot, abs stopped working. A/c was blowing hard, but could not adjust. Windows would not open. Hatch would not open, back doors would not open , door lock/ unlock did not work. Could only use handle on inside to open car. Could not adjust side mirrors. Promptly rerouted my day trip back home via side roads and not expressway due to uncertainty of safety. Drove it right to dealer and left the car running while checking in. Car starting flashing lights while service writer was checking car in. Then all lights- headlights and tail lights went dark without touching car. Engine still running. Car is not safe or reliable to drive. Had 12,400 miles and have owned it 18 months. Mostly highway driven by retired couple. 5 th service of electrical issues since purchase. It has been kept multiple days each time.
Driving down a highway in a 70 mph zone, my car’s automatic braking system engaged causing my car to slam on brakes. There were no cars in front of me any of the times this happened. This has happened 5 times in the last two weeks. 3/5 of the times, there were cars/trucks in the right lane next to me. 2/5 of the times, there were trucks two lanes over. The first time this happened, the car behind me had to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting me. This has happened about 10 times since I have owned the car. However the incidents have happened more frequently in the last few weeks.
When crossing the border into mexico the aeb module falsely reports it has malfunctioned due to "Geo fence" limitations. At least that is the cause of the issue per the service department. This causes the aeb system to stay offline and inoperable which also affects the lane departure warning system as well as prevents the use of adaptive cruise control. Supposedly there will be a "software update" coming--it was supposed to happen in q4 of 2023 and now they say q1 2024 which has ended and no update. The safety of the vehicle is compromised as key safety features are offline.
Driving 35 mph on a back road, no cars coming the opposite direction, the automatic emergency braking system flashed, beeped and slammed my brakes momentarily. Luckily there was no one behind me. I attempted to pull into a parking lot and the entire electrical system went crazy, all warning lights, systems and sensors went off and I lost power steering. Had I been driving during power steering loss it would have been very dangerous. This is the second time this has occurred with the lights and power steering issue (first time for the aeb system issue) and the dealer kept the car 3 weeks to repair it but clearly the problem persists.
I have a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4wd overland, if the NHTSA would do a web search this issue is a common issue that many people are complaining and concerned about. The forward collision warning with automatic braking is not functioning or has been turned down where it is completely ineffective or is not functioning at all. I have had my vehicle in two different Jeep dealerships and have been told that the system is functioning and not showing any error codes. I have an active case working under Jeep (case # 88675524) and my vehicle was inspected by a Jeep representative on 2/20/2024, who also claims that the system is working. I have driven several different makes of vehicles with a collision avoidance system and have seen and experienced when this system functions properly, I am a police officer and currently drive a 2021 chevy tahoe with this system and have had many alerts in the two years I have driven this vehicle. I have approximately 12,500 miles on this Jeep and have not had one alert with this amount of mileage, I have has a couple close calls where I have had to take evasive action and heavy braking to avoid a collision and not even had a warning of any kind. There are to many people complaining of this same issue and many of the same people are quoting the same company verbiage and quotes from the Jeep service departments saying that the system is functioning correctly, and there is no way to test the system. Please look into this issue and research just how many people are complaining of this issue, if your going to advertise and promote a safety system on vehicles you should have an expectation that the system actually works. Any safety system that is not functioning properly puts people in danger when the said system would prevent or minimize damage in a collision situation.

I have a 2024 Jeep grand wagoneer. It has been activating it's emergency braking system randomly while driving. One time it was on a road with a 55mph speed limit the car beeped and slammed on the brakes. Morning sunny no traffic car was clean and free of dirt. Second time was on a 2 lane road speed limit 35 day light car beeped and slamed on the brakes the behind me had to go into oncoming lane to avoid hitting me. The 3rd time was after leaving the dealership after the 4th time in for service for them trying to figure out why the truck is doing this. Was on the cross street from the 2nd time. This time it high lighted a mail box in the night-vision mode and slammed on the brakes again day light no traffic car was clean. Mail box wasn't hanging in the road. We opened a case with fca for a buy back they denied it. Fca also has not issued a stop drive order. We are currently using my wife's car to transport the kids as we do not feel comfortable with the issue not being resolved with fca. My wife has the same truck hers is having the same issue but not slamming on the brakes hers is in currently with Jeep engineering and they want us to record the car when it actives the system with our phones while driving. We feel very unsafe driving the cars and is hoping NHTSA can step in with some help. At the end of the day we are both trading our less than 1 yr old trucks in for another brand and is losing around 30,000 between the 2 vehicles.
Vehicle made left turn with partially obstructed side view and struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Pedestrian impact with center of vehicle (license plate). No pedestrian emergency braking activated. Vehicle brought to the dealer (with le reconstruction) - front radar sensor not tracking. Further tests of vehicle with live pedestrians walking in front of vehicle; both from step off curb into bike lane and live pedestrians walking across the front of the vehicle with no alert or apparent tracking. All tests performed above 3mph (5kph) and below 39mph. Test also above 30mph with lane line activation, but did not detect pedestrian path intrusion. Inside, the aeb for pedestrian emergency braking is on, with "warning + active braking". See photos. Tested with all three sensitivity settings (med, near, far). Additional: rear sensors worked while in reverse with a pedestrian side approach. Bosch cdr/edr 900 connected, no pedestrian option illuminated (only airbag). Further: tested another Grand Cherokee with similar trim options, on similar tests and it too did not detect or alert to pedestrian path intrusion.
My emergency braking system doesn’t work and Jeep corporate can’t fix it. The car won’t stop and won’t notify me in an emergency and it’s not safe. The dealer gave me a second Jeep and it has the identical problem. That VIN is 1c4rjkag9p8898184. The dealer also said they have no fix for this issue. Please contact me 914-830-2598 john giannico.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 15 mph, the messages indicating that 4-wheel drive mode was disabled, and that the emergency brakes were applied, were displayed. The vehicle suddenly turned off. The contact stated that there were no vehicles in front of the vehicle at the time the failure occurred. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the messages were no longer displayed. The contact continued driving; however, the vehicle failed to shift smoothly into the intended gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where diagnostic codes related to the transmission valve body were read. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 1,100.
While turning left, vehicle hit brakes on its own, driver and two passengers experienced neck pain. Two vehicles behind both screeched to a halt. There is dash cam video, but won’t let me upload.
Airbag requiring service light came on at 100 miles. Then the sos call button was stuck lit up with an error message on the touch screen every time vehicle was started. Then the aeb system went off while driving (not in danger of being in a crash) and brought the vehicle to a stop and put itself in park and shut off. Vehicle would not start again after that. Had to get it towed.
Numerous messages regarding safety features appearing on cluster advising service required: active lane management, blind spot alert, auto emergency braking, rear braking assist features vital to safe operation of vehicle, stellantis / fca has zero knowledge & info as to cause of failure & fix.
2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe flashing the following needing service: active lane management, blind spot alert, auto emergency braking numerous calls to Jeep whom refused to escalate to a star case for engineer review. Numerous calls to stelantis, with no call back. Possible issues with safety module. Videos submitted to Jeep wave and asked to escalate to bring attention to serious safety matter.
Bought the vehicle new. At around 3000 miles the vehicle dash had all dummy lights on and giving me all warnings. Then while driving the vehicle dash started flashing on and off and the vehicle started loosing power. Has been sitting at the dealer for 2 months. No time when parts are coming and if it's fixable. Advised to contact Chrysler and already did. Keep getting round around and case numbers with no resolution.
Accelerating onto hwy and vehicle jerks then flashes “service hybrid system” and “battery low” (as in the vehicle battery not electric mode charge. Pulled up to a stop light 2 min later and automatic breaking locks up and the vehicle completely locks and shuts down. Unable to reset/turn off/on or shift. Had to be towed to dealership.
When slowing down at a stop sign, in snowy conditions, the vehicle went into brake assist and locked the brakes up. Causing the vehicle to slide at an interesting and collide with another car. I had complained several times to the dealer about the braking system being to sensitive and touchy before the accident. This was purchased new and the accident happened about 1800 miles on it. Also, the air bag did not deploy. I was told by the dealer, it was because the impact was not hard enough. But the alerts on my phone, said air bag failure since the accident, I have had this Jeep back to the dealer several times. I asked for a full brake inspection, because I have never driven a vehicle that 1- brakes for you for no reason, 2- extremely touchy. The dealer service dept admitted the brakes were touchy, and drove an identical model to compare, and concluded that it must be normal. Didnt actually inspect them. It is not normal, and I do not feel safe driving this vehicle in the winter. I have since turned off all brake assist options in the settings, but it is still auto braking. Today at about 3000 miles, when slowing down to make a turn, the emergency braking system started acting up with no one close to me. There is something very wrong with this system, and needs to be addressed before serious injuries happen.
