1 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2026

On 5/11/26 at approximately 7:40pm, I was driving a leased 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee in [xxx] , turning left at the busy intersection of [xxx] and [xxx] . I was in the outside lane of a double left-turn lane with a green left-turn arrow, while opposing traffic was also moving through the intersection in its own turn movement. In the center of the intersection, the vehicle suddenly activated forward collision warning and then auto emergency braking without warning, even though I was lawfully proceeding through the turn. The vehicle stopped abruptly and forcefully in the middle of the intersection, leaving my car stranded in active traffic. I braced for a rear-end collision, which surprisingly did not occur as there must not have been another car behind me after the sudden stop, I was unable to shift the vehicle back into drive for several seconds. By the time I was able to move the car again, the light had turned red and other lanes of traffic were beginning to proceed. This created an immediate risk of a serious collision from cross traffic or vehicles approaching from behind. The force of the unexpected stop was strong enough to cause neck pain. By chance, no other vehicle struck my car, but this was a near-miss event with clear potential for severe injury or death. I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. In addition, this vehicle has had multiple recalls and other issues, which heightens my concern that this may be part of a broader safety defect involving the forward collision warning, auto emergency braking, or related electronic control systems. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee can falsely detect a collision risk during a lawful left turn and improperly engage automatic braking or otherwise prevent the driver from promptly returning the vehicle to drive. Relevant documentation can be provided, including VIN, mileage, service records, recall history, and any dealer inspection results information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S.

2 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2026

The active lane management (alm) and auto emergency braking (aeb) systems on this 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe fail repeatedly while the vehicle is in motion at highway speeds. The defect began at 384 miles. The alm system will silently disable itself, and the aeb system forces the vehicle to display an 'aeb limited functionality service required' warning. Following six distinct repair attempts, the authorized servicing dealer (eide Chrysler) stated in writing via text message on March 5, 2026, that this is a 'known issue' and that fca engineering currently has 'no fix' available. The manufacturer has attempted to dismiss the ongoing hardware failure as a resolved hybrid battery software recall, but the collision avoidance systems remain actively defective. Because the steering overcorrection and sudden loss of emergency braking present an immediate crash risk, the vehicle is unsafe to operate.

3 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2026

While reversing on a snowy day the wheels proceeded to spin when the reverse sensors activated the brake system which resulted in damage to the rotor and breaks in the brake caliper resulting in tire failure and then suspension damage.

4 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2026

I had just got in and started my Jeep and noticed the abs light and brake light was on, so I went straight to the dealer and the abs had an internal failure and has to be replaced.

5 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2026

This complaint is being filed as an update to prior NHTSA complaints regarding the same vehicle and recall 78c. The issues described below remain unresolved. My vehicle is subject to recall 78c, which warns of a defect that may result in catastrophic engine failure due to an engine block casting issue. The recall was issued approximately 90 days ago, and the status remains listed as “remedy under development,” with no repair available and no timeline provided. Since the recall was issued, I have contacted stellantis three separate times in writing requesting: confirmation whether the vehicle is considered safe to operate while the recall remains open, and transportation accommodation while no remedy exists. None of these emails have received a response. I also contacted two authorized Jeep dealerships seeking transportation assistance. Both initially stated they do not provide loaner vehicles and are not required to follow corporate directives. Both later stated loaner vehicles do exist but were unavailable and subject to a waitlist; however, neither dealership took my information or placed me on a waitlist, nor provided any follow-up. No meaningful transportation accommodation has been provided. I have been advised only that rental reimbursement may be available, which does not prevent continued operation of the vehicle. As a result, I am being forced to continue driving a vehicle under an active safety recall that explicitly warns of possible catastrophic engine failure, without a remedy, without a timeline, and without alternative transportation. This complaint is submitted to document the prolonged lack of a remedy, manufacturer non-response to repeated safety inquiries, failure to provide interim accommodation, and continued requirement that I operate the recalled vehicle.

6 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2025

This is a follow-up to my previous complaint. My 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee continues to show safety-related system failures that have not been addressed by the dealership or stellantis. The main new issue is a malfunction in the regenerative charging system. I have this feature turned off, yet the vehicle continues to engage regenerative charging while driving. This indicates a failure in the system’s control logic. I am also experiencing intermittent aeb system warnings. The aeb warning light activates randomly during normal driving with no obstacles present, creating uncertainty about whether the system will operate properly when needed. I reported these new issues to the dealership, but they stated they cannot schedule service until after christmas and cannot provide a loaner vehicle. Stellantis has also not offered a solution. I am forced to continue driving a vehicle with malfunctioning safety and braking-related systems. This is an unresolved and escalating safety defect that requires investigation and immediate manufacturer action.

7 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2025

I am reporting unresolved safety issues involving multiple open recalls on my Jeep vehicle, including a high-voltage battery recall and an engine recall with no available remedy. Jeep has advised owners not to recharge the vehicle and to park away from structures or other vehicles due to fire risk, yet also states that owners may continue driving the vehicle. However, the vehicle automatically regenerates battery charge during normal driving even when regenerative braking is turned off. This behavior was not explained in the recall notice and creates confusion about how to safely operate the vehicle while complying with the “do not recharge” guidance. I am also experiencing intermittent automatic emergency braking (aeb) warning alerts, which raises additional safety concerns while driving under recall conditions. Another open recall related to the engine currently has no available remedy and has been unresolved for an extended period of time. Despite the safety nature of these recalls, Jeep has declined to provide a loaner vehicle. Jeep customer care states loaners are at dealership discretion, while dealerships state they have not received authorization from Jeep. Jeep has instead directed me to an out-of-pocket rental reimbursement program that requires the customer to front rental costs for an unknown duration, which is not financially feasible. I am concerned about being instructed to continue operating a vehicle with known safety risks, conflicting guidance, warning alerts, and no reasonable accommodation while remedies remain unavailable.

8 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2025

The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed and approaching a stopped vehicle, the forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking system failed to engage, and the driver needed to depress the brake pedal at the last minute to stop the vehicle. The contact performed a test of the automatic emergency braking system. The contact stated that while two individuals were holding a beige sheet, the contact drove towards the sheet at 70 mph, and the forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking system failed to engage while the vehicle was near the sheet, and the vehicle struck the sheet. The contact then drove towards the sheet at 6 mph and struck the sheet, then the forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking beeping sound engaged. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact provided the recording of the forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking system failure to engage as needed; however, the contact was informed that no failure was found. The service director at the dealer informed the contact that the engineers for the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was functioning as designed. The manufacturer called the contact and offered monetary compensation to keep the vehicle; however, the contact declined the compensation and requested a trade or buy back assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer offered to trade the vehicle for a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact test drove the vehicle with a staff member from the dealer inside the vehicle, and the vehicle experienced the same failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200.

9 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2025

I have been having this error message appear intermittently in the car upon starting the vehicle since I purchased the vehicle in August 2024. See attached photo. The message appears seconds after starting up and will go away. Lane keep assist will turn off but I can turn it back on. Additionally, I have had a similar occurrence in multiple occasions while driving where these systems will turn off and present an orange light on the dashboard. I’m not able to turn the systems back on when this happens. It will reset itself after turning the car on and then off. I have had it in the dealer for this. The explanation was if the battery is below 80% charge this will happen. Seems like a weird response. You would think that if it happens once when the battery is allegedly under 80% charge, if you immediately turn off the car, and restart it ( not giving the car time to charge) it would happen again. I have tested that and it appears untrue. Appears to be some sort of software or sensor issues within the car. I have seen this issue online and the dealer seemed familiar with it on other cars.

10 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2025

This issue happened 3 times in a matter of 2 months. All 3 happened in 3 different intersections. While turning left in the intersection (oncoming traffic also turning left) the vehicle jerks to a full stop in the middle of the intersection with a "crash detected" message flashing on the dashboard screen. The vehicle stayed in drive and continued to drive after full stop the first 2 incidents. On the 3rd incident, the vehicle stopped completely, and would not continue to drive. The vehicle had to be put into park (even though it said it was in drive but did not drive) and put into drive again to continue moving. Other vehicles driving behind the grand wagoneer were required to slam on brakes to prevent impact of the grand wagoneer and had to wait for the grand wagoneer to begin driving again. Unable to drive this vehicle due to safety issues. The vehicle is currently in the shop under investigation.

11 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2025

Lane keep assist and automatic emergency braking turning off on their own at startup. Issue has persisted intermittently in July 2025. Dealership has replaced parts with issue persisting. Vehicle has been in the shop over 40 days for this issue.

12 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2025

Emergency electric brake system has set up a number of times on its own always when it was parked. I was towing the car behind a motorhome ,it is 2024 Grand Cherokee Jeep summit with approximately 6600 miles on it ,the electric emergency break system set up going down the road at 50 mile an hour behind the motorhome. The motorhome has 650 hp engine. I didn’t even feel the brakes set up on the car. I saw a lot of smoke behind the motorhome . I pulled over and it turned out the electric brake set and I couldn’t get it to release. I called the dealer where I bought it to see if they could tell me how to release it. They referred me to Jeep, I thought sure that they’d have someone but they referred me to a Jeep dealer in santa fe, new mexico the dealership had a tow CO haul it to the dealership and told me tow ins were 3 to 4 weeks out before they could get in and look at them . After a month and they had not looked at it I had it hauled to mike shaw Jeep where I bought it. My concern is that had I been driving that car on interstate highways in colorado 75 mph or states where it’s 85 miles an hour and the brake set up I’m going to be in the ditch or in the front of another vehicle killing my self and family or someone else family. This Jeep needs to be taken off the road before someone is killed. I refuse to drive it. Or let a family member drive it. Have had no satisfaction from Jeep dealers. I had to have a car to drive so I had to spend another $60,000 for a car. .

13 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2025

Hybrid system failure alert (red wrench)– the vehicle has shut down while driving, including on highways. When the light goes on – it has braked on its own without me touching the pedal. Dci- is the code the dealership says is coming up no fix for it.

14 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2025

The issues I'm experiencing are a rubbing sound when breaking and turing the wheel. The car turned on and could not be turned off. Nothing worked or responded no matter what you pushed. The brake sensor and lane assist diagnostic fault codes (error codes)popped up which they couldn't find a bulletin or error code to replicate the issue. The vehicle would not read the key fob, it would say the fob had left the vehicle because the door opened, or if I move the key while in the vehicle( bulletin for this issue). I get the call that my vehicle is ready and I'm driving away and the steering wheel vibration coming from the engine between 40 and 49mph feels like I should be driving on rumble strips, but the drive is smooth, this is coming straight from the engine or transmission when you accelerate through the steering wheel. This was not an issue before they ran their tests and fixed said problems. The computers are still updating on the screen and I hope that it evens out when the car turns on and off and the computers reset. Now today the car starts dinging and error codes are flashing on my dash. It's the lane sensor and the lane assist error code going crazy. This was the issue they couldn't replicate or find a bulletin on. Here's the fun part, the problem becomes more consistent when I apply the brakes. One time the brakes seem to not work properly. All these error codes pop up when you initiate the braking system. Then the final error code was warning me that the breaking system was faulty. I drove it straight to the dealership and left out with them again.

15 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2025

On January 6, 2025, one week after picking up the new vehicle from the car dealers lot I was driving on the merritt parkway when suddenly the aeb light came on and then the traction control and engine light. The vehicle quickly lost power and even with my foot pressed fully on the gas pedal, it would not accelerate and slowed to 20 mph within seconds. Fortunately, there was no car behind me, and I was able to coast into a rest stop. If there were a vehicle behind me, it probably would’ve crashed into me when my car quickly decelerated. I turned off the car and then restarted it. I was able to drive it 3 more miles and it happened again. I pulled onto the shoulder, turned the car off and restarted it a 2nd time.

16 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2024

The entire vehicle failed with a no start issue. The vehicle will not wake up, can not jump off. My safety is being stranded without a workable vehicle. No the problem has not been resolved after being towed into service to the dealer twice. The star engineers got involved this last time but asked the service center to release the vehicle to me because they could not replicate the issue. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms to indicate a problem with the vehicle/engine/electronic system, the vehicle is just simply dead.

17 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2024

The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the message "automatic emergency braking (aeb) failure - service required" was displayed and the emergency brakes were erroneously activated causing the vehicle to abruptly stop. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who reprogrammed the aeb system, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 137.

18 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2024

Brand new vehicle with 11 miles on the odometer. The emergency braking system does not work. If I go into the settings and make a change to emergency braking, such as far or close, the message “auto emergency braking (aeb) unavailable service required” will come up on the cluster display. Once I restart the vehicle it goes away. If I go back into the aeb settings and make a change, the message will come up on the cluster again. When I restart the vehicle and the message goes away, it still does not seem as though the auto emergency braking system is working. This is very dangerous.
