3 Front Seat Belt problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/17/2007

I purchased a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2005 from a used car dealer in albuquerque. At that time no recalls or repairs of any safety related defects were revealed to me. I received a recall in novenber 2006 for cooling fan that I had already had done . Daimler/Chrysler reimbursed me for some of the repairs done. On 4-17-07 I was north bound on unser approaching ladera, traffic was stopped at the red light. I was traveling the speed limit which was posted at 35 mph. I pressed on the brake pedal to begin slowing down and nothing happened. I then slammed my foot down on the pedal it went to the floor and I rear ended a large pickup at the intersection. The air bags did not deploy, and I did not think the seat belt engaged untill I hit the steering wheel with my sternum. My injuries were minor, and I elt the injuries of the person I hit were also minor. The reason I believed thiswas so because I was knocked unconsicience. After some advice from an attourney I checked online for any safty related recalls on the vehicle. I was not surprised to find many. Recall # 200002004 was a seat belt recall, recall # 20060313 was a brake system recall, and recall # 19991202 was a air bag recall. There were many more I am sure you were aware off. My concern was for anybody else thatwas driving one of these vehicles with their families in the car. If my wife or daughter had been in the vehicle with me I am sure their injuries would have been more severe. Please look into this vehicle, it was not safe.

5 Front Seat Belt problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/21/2006

April 21, 2006: I was proceeding on a green left turn arrow and was hit by a Ford taurus running stop light. He veered around my front end, tearing off the entire front end and pushing my vehicle into the oncoming lanes. I did not see him coming. I heard the crash, then saw a bright white light. I had lost consciousness and was awakened by a man knocking on my window. The seat belt did not hold. Air bag did not deploy. I smashed into the steering wheel causing head and chest trauma, was rushed to the er, spending two days in the hospital with a bruised heart and head lacerations. Received full body scans, x-rays, cardiac testing, dr bills ($30,000 and still counting). The lease car is totaled ($14,000 damage). I have constant pain, bruising, headaches, blurred vision, memory loss. I lost my new job as a result. Fyi: another Jeep cherokee hit the wall on I-95, 5-21-06 and the entire front end was gone. Curious if that seat belt held? did not see any airbags deployed. Called 911 from my cell to report the crash, 1/2 mile south of atlantic blvd exit (broward county, FL). How many deaths are actually caused by the faulty seat belts? if I had gotten broad sided, I would have gone right through my side window. I complained to my insurance company, the faulty seat belts have resulted in my having a huge claim which is going to cause my future insurance premiums to skyrocket! there must be more than just 3 incidents!! insurance companies, attorneys or owners are not reporting!?.

6 Front Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/07/2006

The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. In April 2006 the front passenger side seat belt began locking and would not move. The contact would have to press the end of the reel to release the seat belt for passenger use. Currently, pressing the end of the reel no longer remedied the failure and the front passenger side seat belt could ot be used. The current mileage is 90,000, and failure mileage was 75,000.

7 Front Seat Belt problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/09/2005

Just purchased a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I noticed when I test drove several and ended up ordering from the factory that the front seat belts are too short. While I can get the belt to buckle, I am unable to have much forward motion such as if I'm reaching for something. I am not that big so seat belt extenders should not be warranted. Never had this problem in any other vehicle, incliuding 2001 Grand Cherokee I traded. If I am carrying a passenger that is larger than me, there is bo way that they will be able to fasten the belt. Obviously, this could end up being a safety issue.

8 Front Seat Belt problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/06/2005

On April 6, 2005 at aprox. 6:50 a. M. A car hit my Jeep Grand Cherokee 2004 special edition in the front, rear left side and back side part of the car. The driver hit with her chest the steering wheel. The driver seat belt do not hold her, so she impact the steering wheel.

9 Front Seat Belt problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/10/2005

I have not purchased the vehicle. The 2005 Jeep grand cherolee has significantly shortened the front seat belts, to the point where a larger individual would be totally unable to buckle the belt, even with the seat all the way back. I do not have this problem with my 1999 Grand Cherokee, or any other vehicle I have ever owned or rented. The significantly shorter seat belt will cause people not to buckle up, and is a safety hazard for any driver.

11 Front Seat Belt problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/05/2004

My husband and I were in a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee, stopped at a stop light and rear ended by a Toyota celica traveling about 40 mph according to the police statement. Our Jeep then hit the car in front of us (it was a four car chain reaction collision). The drivers and front passenger seats reclined on impact. Had our grandson been in his child safety seat, his legs would have been crushed, if not worse. Further, the shoulder restraint did not hold on the passenger side, resulting in my head smashing into the dashboard. The air bags did not deploy.
